Stalling Sen. Franken
Posted by: Amanda Carpenter at 10:18 AM
A top GOP senator is making the case that Al Franken cannot be immediately seated by Senate if the Minnesota Canvassing board declares Franken the winner over Republican incumbent Norm Coleman later today.

It appears Republicans could stall Franken for at least a week, which would give Coleman time to advance legal arguments against the board's decision, by employing arcane Senate rules.

National Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee Chairman John Cornyn told Fox News that "The Senate's rules require an election certificate that can't be issued until after 7 days after the canvassing board certifies the recount."

Cornyn said Senate Republicans could also refer the board's ruling to the Senate Rules Committee, much like Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has said he would do to prevent Roland Burris from filling President-elect Barack Obama's vacated Senate seat.

The Rules Committee, filled by 19 senators, could take up to 90 days to make a recommendation on the fate of either senator.

"Me- I seem to recall another election in 2000 that the GOP won after manipulating recounts... And I think we are ALL sorry they did today."

I will have to respectfully disagree on this point. There were plane loads of attorneys from the gore camp on the ground the 5th of November.

The Bush camp was caught flat footed and nearly didn't catch up to the count, recount juggernaut unleashed in Florida.

A vote is a precious thing and canvassing boards should not divine the voters intent.

If that's where we are(canvasing boards picking senators etc etc), the great American experiment is in decline.

typical ditto head responses-smear fear and accuse. You're a cliche right out of the Rush limbaugh show. This would be funny if so much
nationally wasn't on the line.

But its funny how you still can't accept the fact that you were proven wrong by Sarah Palin herself.

Perhaps you can go elsewhere and spread your special brand of idiocy someplace where you will do less harm. Perhaps you could go for a walk in the park. Certainly that will do you some good as you really need to re-evaluate your life.

People do not become as wrong as you withoutmaking serious errors. You need to confront your mistakes if ou are ever to be a whole person. Getting in touch with Nature/God will assist you with this.

Typing your ignorant screeds on this board helps nobody.

Perhaps the time is right for a social conservative support group? Go start one.

Just The Beginning Stages
This is part of the beginning stages of what Conservatives have to have the resolve to fight with every fiber of their being. Corruption in this country knows no bounds.

If the Conservatives do their jobs, it should be four years of hell for the liberals notwithstanding those who "reach" across the isle like John McCain and his little minions like Lindsay Graham.

Conservatives may have lost a battle but they have not lost the war. Not yet, anyway.

When I saw that Al Franken was running, I thought it was hilarious! Who would vote for this loser?

I didn't figure on George Soros backing the third-party candidate.

I also didn't figure that Coleman's win could be stolen by uneven counting, double counting, and non-uniform standards.

I hope Norm fights this. At least it will expose the cheating that Dems do to win.

"Veto happy". What a freakin' laugh. Slick Willy almost vetoed the welfare reform act more times that Shrub has total vetos. Any SANE, RATIONAL person would say that is one of the biggest faults of Shrub -- his LACK of vetos.

But to the dolts like Lola, black is white, up is down, right is wrong, war is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength.

The level of utter STUPIDITY in the current Democratic Party supporters is just ridiculous. Most of those brain-dead dolts couldn't even articulate in their own words why they hate George W. Bush. All they know is that the talking heads on TV say that he's a "bad, bad man", and thus, ipso facto, and ergo they don't like him.

The RNC should already be filling the media with the coordinated message about vanishing and reappearing ballets, inconsistent counts, bias volunteers, etc. Even if Coleman does not get seated... then GOP can make many political points and use this as an opportunity to highlight the massive media bias and intentionally poor reporting when it benefits the dems.

The MSM is becoming the true enemy to free speech and freedom.

Funny how all of a sudden the media has stopped asking about "qualifications" for public office, huh?

Sarah Palin is governor of a state, was the mayor of a town, spent a career out of routing out corruption, including from within her own party, and personally had international deplomacy experience, NONE of which "That One" had, yet she was "unqualified".

Caroline Kennedy has EXACTLY three qualifications. One of which is her last name, and the other two are in her bra. And yet not a peep from the "news" press about that. Instead there are insults tossed at those who would DARE to question what qualifications she has, as if simply having the same name as a man made famous by MURDERING a girl means you are automatically "qualified" for public office.

People on both sides should remember that neither side holds the bar on being above the fray when it comes to dirty politics and shady or illegal behavior.

Republicans will do just as many dirty things as a Democrat because they are both after, and intoxicated by, the same thing. Power.

With all the scrutiny on election results in Minnesota by the media and the watchdogs from both sides, I can't imagine that any illegal behavior has happened. At the same time, it does look shady and I think that the Democratic leadership should refuse to seat Franken until it is ironclad that he won the recount. It seems silly that they would block Roland Burris and not Franken.

Anyway, please don't assume that Republicans and conservatives are always the good guy and that Democrats are always "lieing, cheating, and stealing". And vice versa. It's a silly and naive thing to say.
beowulfe writes: Monday, January, 05, 2009 3:17 PM
It's not like they hide their cheating.
The cheating is right there in the open for everyone to see.

We know for an IRREFUTABLE FACT that HUNDREDS of votes -- ALL of them for Al Franken -- were counted twice. How do we know this? The election board has ADMITTED that they were counted twice. The scame they pulled was simple. They claimed that certain votes would not be registered by the voting machines, so they manufactured "duplicate ballots" so they could be read. The problem is that they counted BOTH the original ballot AND the duplicate ballot. That is a fact, and it is a FACT admitted by the election board, Al Franken, and everyone involved in the recount.

Their cheating is right there in the open for everyone to see, and the reaction by the American Nazi Party....er, I mean Democratic Party? CELEBRATE stealing elections.

You know what the scary part is? Even the Nazi Party of Germany never stooped to stealing elections. Oh, sure, they burned the Reichstag and duped a senile Hindenburg into handing over power to Hitler, but even the Nazis never stooped to the level of the cheating Democrats.

What you just did there was ignore everything and state the dem party lines. So, now Franken is ahead after:

duplicate ballots were counted as original: Net gain for Franken 80 to 100 votes.

Ramsey County precinct ended up with 177 more ballots than there were recorded votes on Election Night: Net gain for Franken 37 votes

Absentee ballots: Many Franken leaning communities have completed the re-examination of this issue, while many Coleman leaning have not: Net gain for Franken 176 votes.

But, I haven't been paying attention. Bottom line, this was going to go on until the democrat had enough votes to win, and then they want to certify immediately.

White Salamander said Franken won the election. Did he? Ann Coulter wrote a piece awhile back here on TH about Dems stealing elections; add another one to the list.

Franken is a foul-mouthed comedian who also has legal and ethical challenges. His election proves that Democrats will vote for anyone with a "D" next to their name. It also speaks poorly of the people of Minnesota; prior to this they had a reputation of being pretty sensible. Finally, it shows just how bad the Republican brand has been battered.

This isn't the first time this scenario has played out."

Republicans just don't understand the process of voting. "It goes my way or someone cheated!". If you had been following this race, you would know that Coleman has exhausted all of his options, and that the lead came after a court review which allowed additional absentee ballots, initially not used, to be counted. But then you'd be informed and able to make a intelligent comment, and I hear that doesn't fly so well over here at Townhall.

Cam, it wasn't Conservatism
that brought the country to the point it is today. As Rush has said, the Repubs nominated a moderate in McCain (and McC's former friends in MSM turned on him); GWB has governed like a moderate-to-lib at least fiscally (and has been accused of all manner of atrocities); GHWB was a moderate-to-lib and was hammered by the Left.

Franken failed with Air America while Rush continues to set records and results - for his sponsors, listeners and yes, his detractors. Are you really that impressed with Al and what he hasn't accomplished?

59
So now there are 59 dem. senators. Just 1 more and the rethugs can go home - permanently.

Fitting
It's fitting that Al Franken participate in the removal of conservatism from control of the US. When liberalism was being beaten down after restoring fiscal responsibility and restricting assault weapons, Al Franken was one of the few people willing to take on the blowhards like Rush Limbaugh. Now that conservatism has run America into the ground, those with the courage to denounce it early on should participate in the correcting of our course.

resigning
If Republicans are to spineless and allow this to happen, I'm simply resigning - from politics - and I'm going John Galt. I've got the local sports channel up on my radio and thats that. Let the dems/libs run us completely into the ground - I just don't care anymore.

Send in the clowns...
Every circus needs a clown, that's why we elected you.

Al Franken. Al Franken.

It's becoming a bad joke, so it makes sense to have you.

Al Franken. Al Franken.

Caligula at least sent the whole horse, Minnesota just the back.

Al Franken. Al Franken.

Now excuse me while I vomit, I can taste it in my mouth.

Al Franken. Al Franken.
