Rudy Must Win Florida ... Or Else

This won't surprise anyone, but Rudy Giuliani has to win Florida ...
... Trouble is, Rudy is currently in a distant third place in every major poll.
And unless Rudy wins Florida, polling indicates he will not even win his own home state of New York. That, of course, would be embarrassing. ... Which is why Rudy Giuliani will likely drop out of the race if he fails to win Florida tomorrow. And if Rudy drops out, I've got to think there is a decent chance he will endorse John McCain.
So what went wrong?
Looking at this RCP poll average, it is clear that Rudy's strategy of essentially conceding the early states was severely flawed. As you can see below, until the voting began, he was far ahead in Florida. However, he began losing support after New Hampshire (at the same time as Huckabee, Romney and McCain started improving down there). But it looks like it was right after Michigan -- around January 15 -- when Rudy finally surrendered first place (despite the fact that Rudy was in Florida at that time) ...

I also believe Giuliani missed a huge opportunty the other night at the MSNBC debate. This was his one shot to make a splash, but he essentially sat on his hands. Talk about a missed opportunity ...
I've gone on record as saying that Rudy Giuliani proposed the boldest and best tax plan of any Republican. Unfortunately for Rudy, his plan (which was released the day after Michigan) received little attention. The point is, everyone was focused on the action ... Iowa, New Hampshire, Michigan, South Carolina ...
Still, it's possible the polls are wrong. Maybe Rudy will pull off a miracle tomorrow. But if he doesn't, Rudy will look back at this election and wonder "what might have been ..."

It looks as though you were right on point. |

about how Fred Thompson's campaign strategy screwed up his chances at becoming the nominee (even though I believe that he is only 50% responsible, the MSM gets the other 50%), I think Rudy's strategy was by far much worse. How does a candidate go from being in the high 30's in the national poll, lead in all the big states, and now has to win FL or go home? That is the choke of all chokes!
BTW Matt...Thompson's flat tax and Huckabee's support of the FairTax were the boldest plans. Giuliani's plan came out too late and was not as radical. |

What's the likelihood of anyone who has been called names for wanting the gov't to actually enforce the laws, to vote for those jamming amnesty down our throats?
McCain-Kennedy, McCain-Feingold, McCain-Leiberman. Leadership like this I can do without.
Carbon taxes, constitutional rights for Gitmo detainees and amnesty for illegal aliens await us no matter who wins, whoopee!!!

WHY do we need McCain who is Hillary's twin
Obama actually kicked Hillar down the steps and down the hall
McCain talks Lies and lies and is as bad as Hillary and Hillary will win by a landslide
IF THIS ELECTION IS ABOUT beating Hillary
I will go support Obama, he is an outsider and actually beat Hillary
McCain is playing kissy face with Hillary

You can't average polls and expect an accurate result. Too many differences in polling methodology and in the questions themselves, to say the least. It would just be best to pick the poll with the smallest bias and the largest sample size. |

Rudy had to give up earlier states because he did NOT have enough funds and that is the bottom line.
If anything, we should all avoid McCain and Clinton like acute lethal decease. They will ruin our country. Please view the the past 10 years of your life, life in US, life in general, and life in essence. Why when records show that both of them have fundamental flaws in leading the country, they can still show leading poll results. This is insane. McCain can NOT be our president. Clinton can NOT be our president. Study hard and use your senses. News media twists facts too much. |

Rudy has run maybe the single worst political campaign I've ever seen. Seems he's severely overrated his own appeal in Florida and severely underrated the benefit of positive momentum, coming out of the early races. Maybe Rudy thinks the voters of Florida don't have access to the national media like the rest of us? Who knows.
I figured Rudy was behind the 8-ball, what with his complete lack of charisma and qualifications for the office. But I'm still astounded at how badly he miscalculated in FL and how quickly he's going to be forced out of the race. See you Rudy.
Now if we can just get rid of Huckabee, I see two Republican candidates I can live with and one Democrat (obama) I'd enthusiastically support. This could turn out to be a pretty positive election year! |

for this conservative, i would not only have to hold my nose to vote for McHuckamoster but the poling place better not have any lines, the weather better be ok, and i had better have time...
if conservatives are not voting for you in the primaries, maybe that should mean something.
i see it now, the clintons get the left 2/5 of the country, McHuck gets the next 3/10 and the right 3/10 may or may not come out to vote...
i see winner all over that. |

Rudy gets out of race after FL loss. He endorses McCain, who then proceeds to take a sweep with all the large states and some southern states. Huck, gets some southern states or takes 2nd to McCain. Mitt is toast. McCain gets the nomination and picks Huck. Huck brings a youthful step into the straight talk express. The social conservatives, and people earning less than $75K, defense first crowd, independents/moderates who don't trust Clinton's (45%) are glad to vote for Mc/Huck in the general, and republicans get to keep the whitehouse. Mitt's fate is.....obvious by now, whether he wins or looses FL, he is out of the race - for good after Feb.5th. |

:)
I hadn't seen that one. Should be posted around...
So if Rudy endorses McCain, as Matt suggests above, then McCain's support for Romney makes him the nominee...
Hey all, I am just having fun with this so when DNC Joe and the others start showing up, I am not serious so dont take it that way. I think they are all paid posters anyway. Maybe we just call them the PP'ers.

There are a bunch of commentors that just sit around with their copy and paste text to put in the comments on many blog posts. Most are Anti-Romney.
They dont care the context of the original post. So, lets just see when they start up. Lets have a pool on when they start.
my prediction 20 minutes and we will have 3... |

to mc mexico..so why not ..? siamese twins!
and how many delagates does rudy have...wowie! elvis |

Romney pulled ahead of McCain nationally, according to today's Rasmussen poll. I guess all the love from the liberal media doesn't play to well to conservatives.
Go Romney! |

Rudy's biggest mistake goes back to 1989 when he flip-flopped on abortion. Doubt that made much of a difference in the race in 1989 or 1993 when he was elected mayor. But it made a HUGE difference in 2008 when running for President. |

Fred Thompson has withdrawn from the race for president. Fred Thompson is still our choice. Fred Thompson, a young attorney working for the justice department, hand picked by Ronald Reagan, helped defend some of our choices to vote for “the Republican,” Richard Nixon. Fred Thompson, as a senior Republican diplomat, left us with a coherent interpretation of our conservative views. Fred Thompson gave us a conservative focus that allowed us to find a new interpretation of ourselves as Republicans. Fred crafted thoughts and opinions into simple effective coherent statements and published those, point by point on his website as a primer to assist in finding our way as a nation. Fred has set an example and laid the groundwork for the next generation Conservative.
Fred Thompson’s withdrawal from the race for president is not about your pain or your anger; we’ve all been there at one time or another. This is about us and our mutual decision to choose Fred Thompson, a committed conservative to lead. Fred owes us nothing. We don’t owe Fred. We do have a responsibility to ourselves to be responsible for our own decisions. We can’t blame someone else if we are not happy.
Fred Thompson is still on the ballot in many if not all states. Fred Thompson is still a viable choice for president. This is chess not checkers. A unified vote would give Fred the choice at the convention and would prevent second choices from looking more powerful than they deserve.
Vote your principals, GIVE FRED DELAGATES IN THE CONVENTION, no need to waste the signs, keep them up as a symbol of principal. We now have a responsibility to choose again, as for me, I’m going to vote for Fred if his name is on the ballot.
The right to choose cost some of our fellow citizens, countrymen and family the ultimate price. Our price for our right to choose based on our principals is one vote.
VOTE FOR FRED…
