Obama on Lehman
Posted by: Amanda Carpenter at 2:00 PM
Looks like the offical Obama-Biden talking point on the financial news is to blame the GOP and stay away from proposing any solutions.

On the trail today, Obama said he doesn't blame John McCain outright for the Lehman failure, but attributes it to the Bush philosophy of government.
OBAMA: For eight years, we have had policies that have shredded consumer protections and encouraged outside bonuses to CEO's while ignoring middle class Americans. The result is the most serious financial crisis since the Great Depression. I certainly don't fault Senator John McCain for these problems. But I do fault the economic philosophy he subscribes to because it's the same philosophy we've had for the last eight years. One that says we should give more and more to those with the most and hope that prosperity trickles down to everyone else. It's a philosophy that says even common sense regulations are unnecessary. One that says we should just stick our heads in the sand and ignore economic problems until they spiral into crisis. The pain has trickled up from the struggles of hard working Americans on Main street to the largest firms on Wall Street.

a gentlemen's agreement in this rigged
election between the two camps:

don't bring up Keating Five and we won't bring up Rezko - too much.

this whole thing's a farce. Jimmy Carter would approve.

Keating Five
I think McCain used 165 billion of taxpayer money to pay for his S&L scandal. But that was then.

Maverick says
"I'm a Maverick, a Reformer. That's why I agree wholeheartedly that we should pay for this mess with taxpayer money. As a Reformer, I like the idea of putting govt people in charge of fixing this mess that govt people encouraged. I WILL stand for it, I tell ya! Stand with me as we use more taxpayer money to correct the market! Stand with me!"

More free markets!
Less de-regulation! What? We have that under the Bush economic doctrine? So that means Republicans in charge of the economy equals the most dire Greenspan warning and catastrophic bank failures?

I better listen to Sean Hannity and Larry Elder today so they can remind me why this isn't a big deal and everything is just awesome. And it's the liberals fault anyway.

Buh bye McPalin.
observe1234 writes: Monday, September, 15, 2008 3:39 PM
Oh don't be silly, no one
is proposing any solutions to this mess -- neother Obama nor McCain nor Palin -- corruption/CEO pay have nothing whatever to do with this problem. But I do think in the end this helps the dems because ultimately it exposes the fact that a free market is a fantasy in today's economy, and some regulation is required. I have no sypmathy for the so-called "master sof the universe" at Bear Stearns and Lehman -- they were supposed to know what they were doing. But unfortunately this will affect everyone, including banks that hold regular deposits from regular people, so something will need to be done by the government, there is no getting around that.

Sing it Eleanor!
When Obamas get elected the ocean will recede, the lands will cool, inflation will disappear, polar bears will once again prowl the ice sheets of the Gulf of Mexico, and Biden will reveal his secret of hair restoration! Vote Democrat!

Great article Amanda!
Typical Democrats.

Obama is following the democratic playbook: tell the truth the American people about Republican mismanagement of the economy for the last 8 years.

What a relief that someone is pointing out the obvious.

I'm sure John McCain blames his POW status everytime he's called out on his lies.

Great article Amanda!
Typical Democrats.

Obama is following the democratic playbook: paint a gloom and doom picture, blame the Republicans for everything, and offer absolutely NO solutions, other than say "elect me"! We're change!

What a joke.

I'm sure Obama blames conservatives every time he gets a flat tire....

8 years of failure? You are wrong
Over the last 20 years you have been repeatedly lied to, bamboozled and scammed by those "in power", including the members of both political parties, The Fed, and Treasury.
Go back and read some history. Clinton (advised by Rubin, another GS alum) signed into law the final provision that repealed Glass-Steagle, which allowed commercial banks to get into investment banking agian; something they had not been able to do since before the Great Depression. Repealing Glass-Steagall didn't make it all possible, but it definitely was a factor.

Why did banks get away with this crap? Look who contributed the most money to both parties campaigns? GS, Mer, BSC, BAC,.....
How about the $300mm in lobbying efforts by Fannie and Freddie over the last 5 years? $300mm dollars buys a lot of favorable rulings and dampens enforcement of rules.

This is not one party's fault, it's the collective lack of enforcement of rules and permitting of fraud by ALL PARTIES.

EVERYONE knew that lending money to folks who wouldn't pay it back was a BAD IDEA. BUT, everyone was getting rich... Where the hell were the cops? The SEC? The Fed? They were getting rich too...

I said this weeks ago... we may not be able avoid a Greater Depression and that is the election issue to focus on. Focus on the banking crisis, focus on the recession. Nothing else really matters.

Shout It Out America: Enough is Enough
Eight is Enough.
Eight years of a Republican Administration is Enough.
Eight years of lying to the American people is enough.
Eight years of economic destruction under Bush/Cheney is enough.
Seven years of an unnecessary war and war spending is enough.
Bush Republican policy has to go.
The Constitution must be upheld.
Women's Rights must be enforced for the sake of our daughters, grandaughters and for generations to come.
If you want REAL change, if you want to restore America to the thriving, well-respected nation, it was before Bush, if you want a country for the people, by the people and of the people, VOTE DEMOCRATIC.

Obama on the Market Crisis
Anyone as immature, inexperienced, incompetent, and uninformed as Barack Obama that can make any valid claim to know what makes the U.S. economy tick, should be annointed KING, not president

Why can't the Democrats
take responsibility for ANYTHING? For a party that talks a lot about personal responsibility and accountability, when they screw up, it's never, "hey, we screwed up, but here's how we'll fix it" it's more of the "the darn Republicans caused this mess!". blah blah blah. It it totally reasonable to show America how a Obama presidency would be complete economic disaster.

And the Republicans have not been in
charge for all of the last eight years. In the six of the last eight years they (Congress) didn't have the back bone to do what the voters sent them to DC for, which is why they lost power in the House. BTW, how to you like Speaker Pelosi, a real Brainiac, isn't she?
Screwtape writes: Monday, September, 15, 2008 2:34 PM
Michael...
You sir are correct here. Bush had been distracted by the war on terror. Guess what, it is his job. I am also glad you have at least admitted that it isn't fault, per say, just that he didn't see it coming. Try blaming the start of the mess on Clinton. The laws that are governing the subprime market were not passed during the Bush years.

It's his answer to everything
Obama on global warming: "I certainly don't fault Senator John McCain for these problems. But I do fault the environmental philosophy he subscribes to because it's the same philosophy we've had for the last eight years."

Obama on Hurricane Ike: "I certainly don't fault Senator John McCain for these problems. But I do fault the weather patterns he subscribes to because it's the same weather we've had for the last eight years."

Obama on why you got cut off in traffic this morning: "I certainly don't fault Senator John McCain for this problem. But I do fault the traffic philosophy he subscribes to because we've had the same drivers on the road that we've had for the last eight years."

Obama on the extinction of the dinosaurs: "I certainly don't fault Senator John McCain for this problem. But I do fault the philosophy he subscribes to because we've haven't seen any dinosaurs for the last eight years."

8 Years of Failure
You can't deny republicans have been in power the last 8 years. Apparently the republican defense to his is having lost congress for the last two of those.

This economic mess has slipped up on a distracted, republican, war-president. Now you want a new war-president and his sidekick moose hunter to dive into this mess?
