China Preparing to Invade Taiwan?

More concerning news this morning ...
The Chinese military has been blamed for a hack into a computer network belonging to the Pentagon, according to leaked reports of an internal investigation.
The Financial Times, citing unnamed current and former US officials, said the hack of US Department of Defence systems took place in June.
The paper said both the US and Chinese militaries were widely assumed to conduct computer espionage on each other, however the June hack has raised concerns to a new level “because of fears that China had shown it could disrupt systems at critical times.”
"Critical times" -- could mean many things to many people.
One conservative I spoke to about this speculated that China might do this in concert with an invasion of Taiwan, which would theoretically happen after the Olympics.
Speculation is that if China were to invade Taiwan, they might simultaneously try to disrupt the Pentagon's command-and-control infrastructure -- and also flood our markets with the over trillion dollar reserve they have in dollars. In other words, this plan would have both a military and an economic component.
The theory is that while the U.S. might be able to prevent an invasion of Taiwan, we would not be able to do anything about it after the fact.

Sonny Jim,
You gotta keep on eye on that slick Matt Lewis---occasionally after reading commenters' remarks, he'll go back in and stealthly make edits/additions to his blog posts.
I don't know if that's what he did in this particular case in response to your prescient remark regarding the Olympics, but as you well know, Matt is a guy who a few months ago wrote with a straight face that he wasn't 'actually' supporting McCain. |

I swear, Matt Lewis can't even write a few sentences without resorting to using his beloved parentheses. |

to turn back now, so they're just trying to last as long as they can... |

is that it has probably caused more alarm than you know. We have probably already reciprocated; unless that was a reciprocation.
I'm more worried about China in the Philippines, where they successfully invaded over a decade ago, than in Taiwan where they face an uncertain fight.
The real question is whether or not the Taiwanese are already invading the mainland. I suspect they probably have a very strong foothold already and that's why the old men in Beijing keep ruffling their fur. |
|
1. I said this was all conjecture.
2. The fact that the Chinese have apparently hacked the computers at the Pentagon should, at least, cause more alarm than it has today.
3. I said it would happen AFTER the Olympics (meaning days, weeks, or months after). |

trade with China at the Texas Straw Poll. He even pointed out the MILITARY CONTRACTS that they have to provide cheap labor to American business! Few U.S. consumers even look at labels to see exactly where their money is going when they make a purchase. The Corporate Globalist that now control United States Incorporated know this! As for the U.S. spanking China with it's OVERSTRETCHED military?.......Not likely.(See GLOBALFIREPOWER.COM)for world military rankings. Our wealthy, elected government leaders have systematicly sold off our nation to the business leaders of the world in the name of "Free Trade"! If China invaded Taiwan, while North Korea invaded South Korea, at best, we would be negotiating through the U.N. to simply get our prisoners back!..........It takes people to fight wars, and we have exhausted our manpower. |

Invade Taiwan in concert with hosting the Olympics? Sanity check, guy.
Look, I hate the ChiComs as much as the next guy, but we really need to coolly examine the facts on the ground, big picure and finally admit that the Nixon strategy is working. They may yet do it but probably not during the Olympics. |

FOR DECADES that we sould not be trade partners with them. |

After Islamic Extremist, Communist China represents our Next Great Enemy if they aren't already. China is building their Military to battle U.S. Forces even as we speak. Our own stupidity and our Congress's Lack of Foresight will insure the Americans of Today and Tomorrow face a Military that we ourselves have built. Not to mention our America's own stupidity by not forcing our markets not to buy Chinese Goods. America should stand up and boycott all chinese products now and in the future. Economics could force change in China and eliminate the future wars that China will initiate. How many people have died over the last 90 years since Communism took root? That answer should be enough to awaken America. |

I can't see them having an economy in the aftermath. They own about $900 billion of long-term US treasury bonds which is less than one day's trading volume. They would be lucky to get back $600 million of their face value assuming our government doesn't intercede to stop the trade. We could also strangle their economy further by raising interest rates to defend the dollar which would force their oil costs through the roof. The Chinese economy is already a rigged and fragile house of cards that could collapse even without our help (think stock market crash in Shanghai). I'm no expert but I just don't see it even before factoring in our significant military superiority which we would almost certainly be willing to use quickly. China is not Iraq. |

China has already "practiced" shooting satellites out of the stratosphere...think THAT would disrupt our high-tech military capability?
