Obama's Ayers' Gambit and The Questions It Should Raise

Yesterday I played the tape of Barack Obama telling a crowd that he was being accused of being a Muslim, and of associating with radicals. This was a weak attempt to asssociate the disreputable and unfair charge concerning Obama's faith --never made by any responsible journalist much less the McCain campaign-- with the very real concern that Obama's friendship and close partnership on the Annenberg Challenge with unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers. Obviously Obama is hoping to persuade the public and journalists that the story of Obama's association with Ayers is as irresponsible as nutter claims that Obama is a Muslim. Obama has used this tactic before, and we can expect to hear it again and again.
The most important thing we know for sure about Obama's relationship with Ayers is that Obama mischaracterized it when asked about it in a nationally televised debate. That alone should be a red flag for journalists. Here's his response to the Stephanopoulos question about Ayers:
GS: Can you explain that relationship for the voters and explain to Democrats why it won't be a problem?
OBAMA: George, but this is an example of what I'm talking about. This is a guy who lives in my neighborhood, who's a professor of English in Chicago who I know and who I have not received some official endorsement from. He's not somebody who I exchange ideas from on a regular basis.
And the notion that somehow as a consequence of me knowing somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago, when I was 8 years old, somehow reflects on me and my values doesn't make much sense, George.
The fact is that I'm also friendly with Tom Coburn, one of the most conservative Republicans in the United States Senate, who, during his campaign, once said that it might be appropriate to apply the death penalty to those who carried out abortions.
Do I need to apologize for Mr. Coburn's statements? Because I certainly don't agree with those, either.
So this kind of game in which anybody who I know, regardless of how flimsy the relationship is, that somehow their ideas could be attributed to me, I think the American people are smarter than that. They're not going to suggest somehow that that is reflective of my views, because it obviously isn't.
Called on this by Hillary, Obama acknowledged that he served on a board with Ayers, then the subject was dropped.
Through the work of Stanley Kurtz, whom Obama's Chicago gang has unsuccessfully tried to intimidate, we already know that Obama and Ayers served not just on the Woods Foundation together but in a close partnership on the controversial Annenberg Challenge. Kurtz is continuing his researches, but MSM --so quick to invent stories about Sarah Palin such as the New York Times' fiction on the vetting process which launched a thousand smears-- doesn't have to wait for Kurtz's to wrap up his researches to ask obvious questions and press for detailed answers on how closely and how often Obama worked with Ayers on Woods and Annenberg and whether or not Obama ever represented Ayers or any of Ayers' projects as a lawyer.
When Obama yesterday in effect asserted that the charge of his association with radicals was as false as the charge that he was a Muslim, he was renewing his attempt to lay a defense he must realize he will soon need. We know this a dodge, an attempt to categorize the Ayers connection as as far-fetched as the misinformation about Obama's faith. We know after last week that MSM is in the tank for Obama, but are there any MSMers left with any standards who will ask the obvious questions: How often did Obama meet with Ayers? Why did Ayers recruit Obama to the Annenberg Foundation? Has Obama or his firm ever represented Ayers? If so, on what matters? Was Obama unaware of Ayers' current political views which are indeed radical? Did they never talk politics or theory?
The voters would like to know, even if the MSM arm of the Obama campaign doesn't.

I can not believe how much you Dems think that your messiah is such a great man and has apparently done no wrong.
Just go out and buy the book "The Case Against Barack Obama" you will find all the answers you need to prove what is being said about this presidental wanna be really are true, and you will also find that all the information comes from legitimate sources such as The New York Times, the Chicago Tribune his own voting records in both Chicago and the US Congress,(which you and look up on the internet).
There is also a paper known as his school records in Indonesia that say his Citizenship is Indonesian and his Religion is Muslim. If it turns out that this information is true, then that means he was adopted by Soelolo at which point he lost his citizenship.
Everyone both Dem's and Repub's need to take the time to look into all the information that has been written about Obama, including his own writings, to learn everything BEFORE you can make an informed decision on who should run this country.
As a democrat turned republican for this election anyway, I would rather see four more years of the Republicans running this country than someone who is going to turn this country into another third world country that can be taken over by some of the world's worst people.

Stephanopoulos is on Obama's side...while he prefers Hillary, he's a leftist. He will whitewash ANY slip-up by Obama. He's not offended because he supports Obama, Stephanopoulos practices 'agenda journalism' as do almost all of the MSM, in which the promotion of agenda takes precedence OVER objective reportage.

Thanks for keeping this issue alive. Mr. Obama's relationship with Bill Ayres needs to be fully revealed. The drive by media has ignored this. Thankfully we have someone like Stanley Kurtz to root out the truth. If Mr. Obama were smart he would come clean on this and put it behind him. The more he tries to sweep it under the rug, the more the American people will suspect that that there is more to the relationship than we know. |

I have had several Democratic friends and family go absolutely nuts about Palin in the last week. They are really shook up. They would politely tollerate my support of McCain (I do not talk politics with my Dem friends so much, because it is a good way to save friendships). But lately they have been going into rants, some of them almost violent in nature.
For Obama supporters it was not supposed to be like this. That is why they are acting so crazy. I am pleasantly suprised by the turn of McCain's fortune.
It is not that Obama is a terrorist, he most certainly is not, but Obama is definitely part of the shady and corrupt world of Chicago politics--which is what the ties to Rezko, Ayers and Dohrn show. And these ties also show the hypocrisy of Obama's new poltics of change. |

This likely explains why Obama tried a kind of head fake when asked about Ayers by George Stephanopoulos in the TV debate with Clinton prior to the Pennsylvania primary. Obama said Ayers was a "professor of english." Yet, Obama chaired the Annenberg Challenge for three years and served on its board for another three years, working closely with Ayers on grants to Chicago schools. And he did not know that Ayers was a professor of education? That strains credulity.

You do know that that AIP meme has been long debunked. She has never been an AIP member, she gave 'em a nice "Welcome to Wasilla" speech when they held their convention there, her husband was an AIP member from '95-02 - as if anyone cares - and the AIP is a mainstream party in Alaska - the Governor from '90-'94 was AIP. That's 1 more statewide office holder than the Libertarians have ever had.

But the Annenberg Challenge money came through anyway due to the efforts of Bill Ayers, among others. It had to be matched 2 to 1 by corporate and foundation money (in fact, they raised an additional $60 mn by 1999), so the Board Chairmanship would have allowed Obama to be in touch with the powerful money interests in Chicago, including possibly the Pritzker Family and others that Kaufman mentions in his story. Penny Pritzker would join the board of the Chicago Public Education Fund which received its startup funding from the Annenberg Challenge as the Challenge wound down in 2001 - the Challenge, in effect, handed the baton of support for school reform to the CPEF. Penny Pritzker is now a key Obama campaign insider in charge of fund raising.
Thus, we have one possible answer to the question: Who "sent" Obama? It was the Ayers family, including Tom, John, Bill and Bernardine Dohrn.

Then Obama joined a tiny, little known (outside Chicago, at least) public interest law firm called Davis Miner Barnhill. The partner who hired him was Judson Miner. Miner was a well known left wing lawyer in Chicago who had been counsel to the progressive black mayor in the 80s, Harold Washington. But Miner possibly also had ties to the Ayers family. He was law school classmates with Bernardine Dohrn at the University of Chicago (both Class of 1967). He formed a lawyers group against the war after graduation and organized a left wing alternative to the local Chicago bar association.
Then, in late 1994 or early 1995, Obama made what I think was probably the key move in his early career. He was named Chairman of the Board of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a $50 million grant program to funnel money into reform efforts at Chicago schools. It turns out that the architect of the Annenberg Challenge was Bill Ayers, who designed the grant proposal and sheparded it to success. The purpose of the program was to defend the controversial and troubled local schools council effort that had been put in place back in 1988. The first Executive Director of the Challenge was Ken Rolling, who came there from the much discussed Woods Fund (where he had been a program officer). The Woods Fund had provided grants to Obama's DCP in the late 80's and Rolling was a part of the school reform effort in which both Bill Ayers and Obama participated. Obama joined the board of the Woods Fund in 1993 in 1999 he would be joined on the board by Bill Ayers.

A few months ago Obama spoke to a group of African-Americans in Jacksonville, Florida where he threw the race card accusing his opponents of racism.
Unlike Sarah Palin, Obama embraced the corrupt Chicago politics. He surrounded himself with anti-establishment radicals to further his own career. And MSM can follow him into the dust bin of history as far as I'm concerned.

Will some papers finally emerge on Obama and Ayers that knock out Obama's presidential bid (and ruin any chance of him becoming Mayor of Chicago in the future) and finally make Ayers into the pariah he should be?

It is truly absurd and hypocritical to focus on Mr. Obama's association with a man who was never convicted of a crime and whose association with an antiwar group took place when Mr. Obama was eight years old.
On the other hand, Mr. McCain chose a running mate who was a member and heavily courted a secession group that despises America. Mr. McCain's running mate's husband was a registered member of the group, AIP, for seven years. I am sure the MSM will pick up the story soon enough.
How can Mr. Obama be guilty of association and Mr. McCain not?
Ultimately, this is all a distraction from the crucial issues that we all face. |

Ca. is so blue now, that McCain signs or NOBAMA signs are immediately trashed as they were in our front yard. Talk Radio and some of the blogosphere are the only areas where possible refutation of the Messiah's lies will be brought out. And what is more dishearting is the news from Drudge and Newsmax, that Democrat registration is mile ahead of any new Pub voters. Unless the Pubs really rally voters who are Indies, this will still be a BO victory. Hugh, I believe there are a few reporters of principle in the MSM who, once Obama's misrepresentaion of his relationship to Ayers and his work on this board are revealed, will call him to respond. He will dissemble, to be sure, as he has with every radical relationship he has, but the message will be clear: he is a politician who with questionable ethics who refuses to take responsibility for his actions. I just returned from part of a two-car load convoy of people who travelled to Colorado Springs, Colorado to meet Sarah Palin, and Mr. and Mrs. John McCain. Other than their tardiness, it was a festive affair----made even moreso by the "rescued" flags, thousands of them, from Barack Obama's big shindig at Invesco Field.
Indeed, Mr. Obama and his peeps were done using their "props" and tossed thousands of flags into the garbage. A good citizen of Denver found them and was aided in their retrieval by a local group of scouts.
Fascinating that the Obamanation did not envision any other need or purpose for these brand new flags. Upon leaving this venue, we were instructed that whatever flags were not wanted, to please deposit them near the exits where they would be put to use on the memorials of fallen soldiers around teh country.
Apparently, not only are the Obama people not creative enough to have thought of such alternative uses----they did not care less about it.
NICE GOING Obama.
One more thing. We stopped by their local Obama campaign office on the way out of town, and was fascianted to see another of those Che Guevarra posters hung proudly on teh wall of the Obama site.

On a related note, I watched the online video feed of the McCain/Palin rally in Colorado Springs earlier today. Just before the TV station picked up the broadcast, a group of veterans distributed American flags to the attendees. According to their spokesman, they had been "rescued" from Invesco Field at Mile High after Obama gave his acceptance speech on the final night of the DNC.
Most of the flags, almost 12,000 of them, were either found on the ground or in the trash.
They didn't even wait until the election was over this time...

Damon's note above is correct. I listened to the latter part of the interview live, and the callers were ludicrous, almost to the point of being McCain plants to make O look silly.
Kass is the muckraker for the tribune - google his columns as well, they do a good job of connecting the entire political racket here together, which includes a chunk of the local GOP as well. Since McCain/Palin has no chance in Illinois, it does give them a chance to replay Sarah's acts against the Alaska establishment.
