On Like Donkey Kong (Update: Video of MKH on CNN)
Posted by: Mary Katharine Ham at 4:13 PM

Hey, I'm on the tee-vee at 5:30. I'm discussing-- I'm not sure what. The Dixie Chicks, maybe?-- with John Aravosis of AMERICAblog.

I'll be on CNN. I'm the one with brown hair and a green shirt on, and I'm a girl. That's how you'll know me. Plus, I look a lot like that chick from the HamNation videos.

Update: Allah, Lord bless him (heh, I just like the way that sounds), was nice enough to clip this video for me, so here I am on CNN. You'll notice the interviewer uses the anti-Ford allegedly raaaaaacist ad as the example of the ultimate negative ad.

If that's the example of a negative ad, then this is the most positive campaign of all time. Everyone just concedes that it's racist, when I think it's more than arguable that it's not. Obnoxious. That's why I don't like that Corker asked to have it removed; it legitimizes this sort of crying wolf on racism. Aravosis also got a mention of the "jungle-drums" ad in there, which CNN didn't air for its viewers, so they could hear that it sounds NOTHING like jungle drums. Here it is, so you can listen.

Also, the Dixie Chicks are not oppressed, Part III.

John Noonan IMs to say he was offended by my cross. Oops, blanket apology to all of CNN's viewers for breaching the wall between church and fourth estate. Clarification: Um, John was kidding about the cross. You guys caught that, right?

Update: I forgot to mention the best part. Being that I now play the part of the indomitable, plucky, but really klutzy heroine in the sitcom that is my life, I fell down the stairs on my way to the car as I was leaving my apartment-- concrete stairs, caught a heel, and fell down about three of them before stopping. I got a little bruised up, and scattered my make-up bag's contents everywhere, but I didn't rip my pants or chip any teeth, so I felt pretty good about it. My left hand got skinned up pretty good, but I figure, "if it bleeds, it leads!" I was like headline news today! Just thought you guys would enjoy that. Just perfect. My national TV debut, and I go splat on the steps 20 minutes before it starts. Ha ha. It's so me.

Nice job
I just happened to catch that. Cool!
The Puddle Pirate writes: Saturday, October, 28, 2006 5:34 PM
Can Carol Lin be any more biased?
The anchor, Carol Lin, really did a masterful job of regurgitating the lefty blogs' and Democrats' talking points. "Racism! Homophobia! Mean-spirited! John, what's your take?"

You got my 5
You did well! Although I am enamored of the praises piled on Wolf! (not)

a pretty level head
i just caught that on cnn. you seemed to be the one with a more reasonable take on the negative ads. plus, your better looking that the other guy.

Wonderful job on CNN
I just happend to have CNN on TV while planning out stuff online for my band (moving to Hollywood). I'm compelled to come on here and say that you did an incredible job -- and looked & sounded great on TV!!! You should do it more often. :)

Wish you the best,
Jonathan Kramm

CNN appearance
Ironically, I was reading this townhall blog, when a hauntingly (it's Halloween, remember) familiar face (as foretold, in the green shirt) appeared on CNN. You were too nice to them. It's okay. I forgive you. Looks like they tried to "spring" some unexpected stuff on you in much the same way that they did with Lynne Cheney. It's hard for anyone to stay composed and focused in front of a camera when they blindside you like that. Keep on keepin' on.
one hot minute writes: Saturday, October, 28, 2006 6:12 PM
Roger Ailes, are you listening ?

Great job, MKH.

I agree with The Puddle Pirate---could Carol Lin be any more biased ?
She allowed John Aravosis to filibuster for the entire interview, plus, she concluded by giving an opinion about Wolf Blitzer, characterizing Wolf as a "tiger" in his interview with Lynne Cheney.
But that's OUR point, Carol !---Wolf WAS a tiger, when he was merely supposed to interview Mrs. Cheney about her children's book.

Back to your performance, MKH; you came across as calm, deliberative, and reasonable.

John whom-ever came across as a little too animated, and too eager to yell 'racist !' 'homophobic !' at every turn.
He also spoke too fast---like a car salesman on a tv/radio ad who gives you the APR numbers and disclaimers at warp speed at the end of a commercial.

I have a couple of buds over to watch sports on tv. I initially had to twist arms and withhold beer in order to turn the channel from football to CNN for your segment.
My buds initially said, "Dude, you're not turning the channel from football to....politics!"

But once they saw you on CNN, they quickly forgot about the 5 minutes of the game they were missing.
One of them commented, "I wish my girlfriend could discuss politics like that."

Roger Ailes, are you listening ?

Hey Mary
is it possible that your interview will be available on audio or podcast?

the cross
okay, I JOKINGLY im'd to say I was offended by the cross.

really the only thing that I find offensive are aggressive circus folks, and in their insensitive carnival games.
truthbetold writes: Saturday, October, 28, 2006 7:35 PM
The cross
The cross was just about as VISIBLE in the video as the drums were on the AUDIO in the Coker ad. You had to REALLY STRAIN to see the cross or hear the drums.

Just saw the video, you are great but I hoped you were not to nice and. The other guy was spinning of his chair. What a hipocrite, arguing that republicans must take the high road and then to suddenly turn around and mischaracterizr Lyn Cheney. What a hipocrite.

My favorite...
...was how the hostess made false claims and statements at the end of the segment giving no opportunity to refute them and demonstrate her bias. I saw the attempted Blitz on Mrs Cheney and she only stated that there were no X rated sex scenes in her novel (paraphrase). She NEVER stated that it had no "lesbianism"
Wade writes: Saturday, October, 28, 2006 8:38 PM
CNN
That was a great reason CNN's ratings suck. The interviewer is nothing more than a leftie cheerleader...shameful.
The Puddle Pirate writes: Saturday, October, 28, 2006 9:19 PM
Your klutziness is cute, MKH
Are you free next Friday? :)
Concerned writes: Saturday, October, 28, 2006 9:33 PM
Good Job
Good job MKH! And I am even more appreciative of your not taking his "homophobic bait". Talk about drumbeats..the racisim = homophobia is not getting any traction. Also the cheap shot suggesting that Lynn Cheney is a lesbian..oh my goodness Aravosis..listening to mr. rogers again? Who's the real race baiter here...hum smells like a liberal democrat activist to me.
charlierk writes: Saturday, October, 28, 2006 11:09 PM
Seperation of Church and Third Estate
Thats a great line... although I had to look up the meaning of "fourth estate" on wikipedia. You could use the the phrase "seperation between Church and Third Estate" to signify to liberals that they are trying to adopt the tyrannical, anti-clerical, anti-religious regime imposed on France, which was very different from the much gentler church/state relations set up by the American settlement as found in the constitution. I think that conservatives need to make liberals aware that the church/state seperation that they are proposing has more in common with the French Revolution than with the American one. There is, after all, a huge difference in the way the two Revolutions treated religious freedom, but very few people are aware of it.
truthbetold writes: Saturday, October, 28, 2006 11:14 PM
Separation of Church and ?
The phrase "separation of church and state" is NOT found in either of our country's founding documents. It isn't in either the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution. Read those documents for yourself before you believe that lie from the American Communists Liberties Union.
Benaiah writes: Saturday, October, 28, 2006 11:18 PM
Great Job MKH!
The only thing I wish you could have done was get a dig in towards the end about the outing of gay Republicans when he was crying homophobia. Naturally CNN kept giving the leftist the last word though.

Great job. Keep up the good work.

Upon further review, it would had been nice if those racist GOPers would withdrawl their black candidates from the ballots in Ohio, Penn, and Maryland (dont slip on the Oreo's Steele!). How dare they have blacks on the ballots!!!!! And how did they know those beats were Racist?? Oh oh oh Senator Byrd called and is missing his drum set, nevermind.

Love Ya
I thought you were intelligent, decently witty (but not overly so), rational (but still with feelings), and, most importantly of all, you made sense. Thank you for playing the role of the voice of reason on that segment, even if you only got a few minutes to talk. Even my sister thought you won that conflict, and she doesn't like to get politically involved in anything.

And we all love you. Remember that when you start getting hate speech, flame mail, and all the other fun communications from people who don't like to see that you have freedom of speech. They're stupid anyways.

Cynewulf writes: Sunday, October, 29, 2006 1:30 AM
This whole deal is
ridiculous (man, I love being able to use that word now without being censored by TH). But my favorite part was: "Ok, let's talk homophobia." Let's see. We're talking about Harold Ford and jungle drums, and for some reason, that leads John to homophobia. It was kind of like John had a speech to get out and it didn't really matter what anyone else was saying. MKat, ya done good.
Roger Berry writes: Sunday, October, 29, 2006 1:48 AM

how come we did not see this story?
Back in March in Iraq, Chief Warrant Officer 3 Lori Hill, with the 2nd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, was piloting her Kiowa Warrior when the lead chopper came under heavy fire. She drew the fire away, simultaneously providing suppressive fire for the troops engaged with the enemy on the ground.

A rocket-propelled grenade hit her, damaging the helo’s instrumentation, but instead of focusing on her predicament, she established communication with the ground forces and continued to provide them with aerial weapon support until the Soldiers reached safety.

As she turned her attention to the aircraft, which was losing hydraulic power, the helo took on machine-gun fire, a round crashing into one of Hill’s ankles. Still, with a damaged aircraft and an injury, she landed at Forward Operating Base Normandy, saving her crew and aircraft.

For her actions she was presented the Distinguished Flying Cross by Vice President Richard Cheney at Fort Campbell, Ky., on Oct. 16.

“It’s was a once-in-a-lifetime thing to get the award and then have the vice president come and award it to you,” she said. “It’s just incredible for any Soldier.”

Recalling that day in March, Hill reflected, “I was actually just glad I didn’t pass out and very happy I was able to help the ground guys out, and get our helicopter down safely on the ground.” (picture of Vice President Cheney at the following link awarding her the Distinguished Flying Cross)

Great Job!
Both SarahK and I think you did great on your appearance; you really come off well on TV (while people like me are better just being read).

You should have gotten angrier at that guy, though. Next time you're on TV, make sure you have a chair that isn't bolted to the ground so your able to knock it over in a display of rage.

What party are you going to vote for that will do anything better than what the SORRY republicans have done? The Dumocrats are going to raise taxes, keep on killing babies up to the day they are born, try to socialize everything and turn this country into a COMMUNIST country. I already voted for the Republicans. I held my nose and closed my eyes because they were the LESSER of two evils. I have been telling them that they won't get any of my GOLD for their national politics until the candidates that they support are true conservatives as espoused by Reagan and others like him.
joyceee writes: Sunday, October, 29, 2006 7:18 PM
forget to give credit to Anchoress
to MacZed, I forgot to give the credit to Anchoress...found the story on her site. It does not say where the hero is from, but the award was given in a Southern state, right? We need to hear more stories like Chief Warrant Officer 3 Lori Hill. Maybe the Vice-President's wife will do another children's book about our military in Iraq and Afghanistan---and feature Lori Hill.
Jewels writes: Monday, October, 30, 2006 9:19 AM
I actually like that ad.
It's funny and ironic, it makes a good impact while being simultaneously informative.

In a time when liberals are painting news anchors in black face and calling the Maryland Lt Gov by the "N" word, I think it's pretty disingenuous of them to cry racism over something so benign.

MKH on National TV!
I knew the Ham Nation was going to kick you into the big time! Congratulations. I, for one, and just glad to have the opportunity to look at you more often. Conservative/Libertarian, Southern, and easy on the eyes. Sigh....
