Family Research Council just sent out an email about their next Values Voters Summit, which will take place on September 12-14.
According to the email:
Early confirmed speakers already include Newt Gingrich, Dr. Bill Bennett, Gary Bauer, Alan Sears, Roger Hedgecock, Star Parker, Bishop Martyn Minns and me. Among others also invited are Lisa Beamer, Glenn Beck, Gov. Jeb Bush, Sen. Hillary Clinton, Lou Dobbs, Sean Hannity, Patricia Heaton, David Horowitz, Gov. Mike Huckabee, Laura Ingraham, Gov. Bobby Jindal, Mark Levin, Rush Limbaugh, Sen. John McCain, Benjamin Netanyahu, Oliver North, Sen. Barack Obama, Kate O'Beirne, Gov. Sarah Palin, Michael Steele, and Mark Steyn.
I see Hillary, Obama and McCain are all "invited". It would be interesting if Hillary and/or Obama were to actually show up...

Hillary? Barack? Why bother even sending the invitations? |

They invited Medved, the formerly well respected radio talk show host. Medved was the most dishonest and disengenuous conservative (supposed) radio host in his outright slanderous treatment of Governor Romney. No one should be surprised that Romney would turn down and invitation to an event that would require him to be in the presence of such slime, let alone share a microphone with.
Republicans should boycott the event if such treacherous filth is who will be speaking.
Yes, I am a former Medved fan. I konw of 8 other people who have stopped listening to show because of his dishonesty and betrayal. That is only anecdotal I know, and I will acknowledge that Michael is a very intelligent and talented individual. But such gifts make his actions all the more offensive and dissappointing. I hope there are lots more of you who can no longer stand the sound of his voice. |

I asked them why Romney is not invited even though all of the other top candidates are, including Huckabee. This is their response:
"Thank you for your recent correspondence with FRC Action regarding the upcoming Values Voter Summit.
There are many qualified candidates to speak at our upcoming Washington Briefing. Mitt Romney did speak at our briefing last year as part of the presidential debate. We will keep Gov.Romney into consideration as we continue to invite speakers from across the country to participate at this event. However, please keep in mind that there are many qualified candidates and it is nearly impossible to please everyone."
Sincerely,
Jenna Spears FRCA Correspondence
I think this is an outrageous ommission. Romney IS a national leader for social conservatives - more so than most of the invited speakers on the list. Please let them know that ignoring Romney is unacceptable.

"Dogma voters" is the more fitting label. "Values voters" is an invented label for people who like to think of themselves as championing good human values. What many of them are pushing actually is dogma. "Values" are "the principles that help you to decide what is right and wrong, and how to act in various situations." Cambridge Dictionary of American English. "Dogma" is "a fixed, esp. religious, belief or set of beliefs that people are expected to accept without any doubts." Id. The two, we can only hope, overlap to some extent, but they are hardly the same. Some of what religious fundamentalists hold up as values others find plainly wrongheaded and even immoral. Labels count. Those pushing the "values voters" label hope it will help them pass off their dogma as values. If they want to push their dogma, that's their right. But "dogma voters" they are, and that's what I'll call them. |
