HamNation is...Not Vegetarian
Posted by: Mary Katharine Ham at 12:26 PM
Here's my newest HamNation, an homage to Alicia Silverstone's PETA ad.

Heh, you know you wanna click.

Update: Here's the vid.

I respect your opinion, and to each his own, but it really makes me sad that you are encouraging murder because it tastes good. I am a vegetarian and I really don't understand how all you people can support this kind of thing.

MKHam's ad
Thanks!!! Loved it! Come out and hunt coyotes with us this winter!!

This is funny?
No wonder the right has such a bad reputation for nonexistent humor. It's also widely known that to be funny - truly humorous - one has to be fairly bright. Look at the pool of creative, bright, funny liberals that are out there - and then look at who is on the wingnut list. Jon Stewart as opposed to Limbaugh. NO CONTEST.

Rightwing "humor" almost always includes cruelty of some sort - involving animals in MKH's case.
Netanya writes: Wednesday, October, 03, 2007 11:21 PM
Mary K. Ham supports animal cruelty
I have to assume that Mary K. Ham, along with all you other supporters of industrialized animal abuse are not compassionate people, since you can't claim ignorance in view of the zillions of easily accessed documented videos, photos, articles and investigative reports on the horrors of animal production and slaughter. You support it wholeheartedly by your consuming, purchasing meat/poultry/egg products produced by modern torture factories, factory farming enterprises you fund with your tax dollars and gobble up at grocery stores. Its ridiculous to argue with you animal haters, and meat eating lovers, but I, along with an increasing number of millions, do and will speak for the misery and pain billions of animals endure for your choice of meals. Smiling and crunching on your animal flesh is disgusting, you at least should find out the truth behind your meat. Meet Your Meat - wake up and see what has happened to the animals of our nation, because of your insane consumer desires.

hunting issue is a tangent
The final question is, Can one have a healthy society that is vegan in the early 21st century?

On one hand, I like the idea that agricultural capacity and land gets dedicated to direct food production rather than partially to keep the metabolism of livestock going - not all that corn ends up as tasty pork. Some just gets burned up by the pig. So if "everyone" voluntarily gave up eating meat, that would open up resources.

On the other hand, can one get sufficient nutrition for healthy pregnancies and child development from a vegan diet? I have heard it is pretty difficult and the hit to public health might be bad.

Yeah, Consistency...PLEASE!
Yeah, NYC DOGG!
Why wouldn't you expect the hunting population to go down by 10% in 10 years! Its because of all the aborted fetuses you helped kill by being 'pro-choice'.

When I say fetuses I mean the fetuses in wombs of the animals you and people like you shoot. Because of your murderous hatred of these fetuses, there are fewer animals to shoot.

As any good conservative will tell you "It's supply and demand"! If you cannot see that, then you are a tax and spend pinko lefty.

Oh, yeah. I hate public schools too.

NYC Dogg

Yet, no doubt you claim to be "pro-choice." Think about that.

Again, thank you public schools.

What a Ham!
"New figures from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service show that the number of hunters 16 and older declined by 10 percent between 1996 and 2006 — from 14 million to about 12.5 million. The drop was most acute in New England, the Rocky Mountains, and the Pacific states, which lost 400,000 hunters in that span. "

Hey hunters - enjoy your sport as it dwindles away. Typical Warpublican gameplan - use overwhleming force against an innocent and unarmed adversary. Beat chest and grunt like gorilla when you bring down wildlife with your semi-auto AR-15 fitted with Bushnell Laser Rangefinder Riflescope!
Hoo Ha!

no biggie
I don't mind vegetarians except when they make a very big to do about it. They always want it to be front and center of every party they go to.
Frankly, I don't make a big fuss if I go to their gig and am not served a steak, but they'll raise the fuss before they even come over. The dumbest thing I ever saw was a fat vegetarian (yes, a lot of them get fat on a diet of carbs and cheese) asking a waiter at a Chinese restaurant if the broth was made of meat.

Now, there are Buddhists and even some Hindus and Sikhs who don't eat a lot of or any meat. If that's a religious thing, then who am I to quibble with it. To each his own.

I don't eat a lot of meat --a diet rich in fruits and veggies, but like I said, I don't make a big deal if someone gives me that steak.
paul the american writes: Saturday, September, 29, 2007 9:10 PM

If God did not want us to eat animals, then why did He make them out of meat??

By the way...
Did anyone else catch the total irony of A.S. talking about her very 'natural' 'organic' diet 'au natural'... in a swimming pool? I thought it was hilarious. If you're not close enough to nature to swim in non-chlorinated water honey, don't tell me what's natural and what's not.

Dagnabbit.
I don't know when I can go deer hunting. Even assuming the state of California will ever allow me to exercise my constitutional right to own a weapon that I can use to defend and hunt.

And what's up with Contra Costa County's lack of CCW permits? Man, it sucks.

I know....I'm not taking offense at all.....just wondering.
Actually, there are some guys who might even like it BETTER if Bambi shot back, but they are obviously kind of ....out there.
Do not think that all you have to do is go out and pull the trigger....there is a LOT of effort involved. God made those creatures with instincts and quicks you wouldn't believe....
Most people think that's why venison acquired tastes so much better than venison purchased.
But I like oranges too. I live in Orange County....there were oranges here once upon a time.... :-)

comments for my friend paddy

paddy wrote;

"Question for you: What would you eat if there were no supermarkets or restaurants? Would you eat weeds, or would you give in to your inner hunter-gatherer?"
------------------

answer: I'd pick an orange off a tree, but that's not my point of contention.
Rather, I'm just politely pointing out the lack of 'sporting' qualities in the 'sport' of hunting.

In boxing, you throw a punch at the other fellow, but you risk him punching you in the nose.

Or in baseball, throw a pitch at one of Roger Clemens' teammates and see Clemens respond with...a fastball, high and tight.

Sure, there's the risk that your hunting partner Dick Cheney may accidentally hit you with buckshot, but what can Bambi do to a guy with a gun ?
Keith writes: Friday, September, 28, 2007 3:37 PM
I don't hunt
But I understand it. In a previous life I referred to the season and male bonding season. Up a 4 am, go out and freeze body parts, hit the bar at 11 am, drink and buy drinks for buddys until you get thrown out, and do it all over again. I prefer to hunt in grocery stores. And you can get any kind of food there.

Umm, haven't seen much of Bigg Dogg lately. Is he still hiding under the porch?

Interesting point. I'd guess most of them.

Let me clarify my previous comment.
I meant I didn't like the ad because it showed nudity and I don't want to be tempted by that nudity...especially on FNC. On Monday's "O'Reilly Factor," Lisa Lange from PETA said that ad was tasteful. Yeah, on Comedy Central in the wee hours, it's tasteful. On a regular TV station at any other time of day, it's inappropriate.
MCLIJazz writes: Friday, September, 28, 2007 1:15 PM
A.S. ad
I stumbled onto "Studio B" last Friday and the ad was shown. Shepard Smith and guest Jill Dobson--entertainment writer for "Star" magazine--scoffed at a TV station pulling the ad, and they said there was nothing wrong with that ad. I hated hearing that. Although, it might primarily be because I'm single and can't get a girlfriend.
paddy o'furniture writes: Friday, September, 28, 2007 1:12 PM
Dang it MK....
..now I want some deer meat and I'm stuck in SoCal. OK, put in vacation request.... clean rifle.... buy ammo....renew license....get shots and a new leash for Bigg Dogg.... make lodge reservations....

Keith writes: Friday, September, 28, 2007 12:59 PM
Love it
I heard about the A.S. ad, but what a let down. Thank you MK for the gentle rebuke. It's amazing what can be said in 30 seconds. Being politically incorrect is a great thing. Remember PETA stands for People Eating Tasty Animals.
