Thomas hasn't spoken out against any of this Administration's illegal actions (the Chrysler bankrupcy, the Pay Czar, etc.). She hasn't questioned the unabashed fawning on Obama by her collegues. She's only offended that HER rights are being trampled on. A planted question by a Huffington Post blogger was approved by the Administration, the press events are stagemanaged with the "tough" questions known in advance, and she resents the control. She is a typical liberal, demanding full license to do what she wants, while advocating the restriction of rights for others. This is more about her than about freedom of the press. She may be right in this case, but for all the wrong reasons. |

They, including Helen Thomas, never asked a searching question, so the conclusion by the community organizer was "they are in the bag." Maybe now some questions will be posed. Too little too late because this dolt is in the WH; but again, some of the questions might just illuminate exactly how worthless he really is! Helen Thomas has been the target of right-wing smears since Hector was a pup. She has been slandered up and down for years. Now she says one thing against Obama, and Town Hall holds her up as a "reliable journalistic source."
Now, I have little respect for anybody in the so-called "White House Press Corps," including Thomas. All they do is read press releases and act like they're insiders. They have never, ever, broken a real story.

Helen has always been a left-wing democrat and seems to have gotten even more so with old age. Still, I've heard it said by senior officers that she was a darned good journalist who asked good questions. I've never read much of her stuff and never seen her on any flagship in which I served -- she was probably too old to climb the stairs, so I really don't know how good or bad she is.
I thought she sometimes hit the exact mark when she questioned Bush and sometimes went overboard because she obviously did not like him.
I, like other conservatives, believe in giving credit where credit is due, regardless of political leanings. Helen asked the question that has been on the minds of lots of folks and it is time somebody did. Hopefully, the press corps will start acting like reporters, rather than lap dogs.
Reporters used to win prizes for investigative reporting work. Now, it prizes seem to be awarded for political purposes only -- reference Eugene Robinson, the most partisan hack in WASHDC. Don't believe that? Listen to him chuck and jive on MSNBC.

The above are different from health insurance. I can buy health insurance and pay my own invoices. It is a power not needed by government.

Helen Thomas does tend to contradict herself a bit from other interviews where she admitted to be liberally biased in her reporting, but at least she stood up and said something that the rest of us have been screaming at our TVs since the summer of 2007.
I don't like her (especially for her "so called terrorist" comment). I don't respect her as a journalist. But I do respect that she had the guts to recognize how far off course the media is becoming. |
