Is Anyone Surprised?
Posted by: Carol Platt Liebau at 2:49 PM
The Washington Times today reports on Obama global warming czar Carol Browner's leadership of a socialist group's (Socialist International's) Commission for a Sustainable World Society.

Of course, if a Republican president's nominee had such ties to a group as far right as Socialist International is far-left, the press would have collapsed in a collective frenzy and the entire country would know about it.

That being said, this is disturbing -- but hardly surprising, given Obama's history of associations with the far left.  What's more, it's just one more piece of proof that some elements in the environmentalist movement (and note: I said some, not all) are merely fronts for the some collectivist, totalitarian, statist impulses that have reared their ugly heads throughout the 20th century with such devastating results for so many.

Just as the "economic crisis" provides rationales for those who want inextricably to intertwine the government with the economy, for some -- again, just some -- the "green movement" offers the same opportunity.  Carol Browner is just one more example.

Vlad....speak for yourself.
I guess it's not a surprise you don't know what a socialist is if you didn't know our form of gevernment is a republic.

Not our problem
"Of course, if a Republican president's nominee had such ties to a group as far right as Socialist International is far-left, the press would have collapsed in a collective frenzy and the entire country would know about it."

That's your fault. You wingnuts have been screaming "socialist" every time a Democrat opens his mouth, nobody knows what the word means any more.

How long before truth reigns
The most prestigious climatologists in the world are now saying the corner has already turned and we are headed for the next cooling cycle.Underline the word cycle.Forget the 130 years or so of record keeping, ask a geologist who studies the strata of the earth. He can tell you the happenings in weather for the last few hundred million years. These warming and cooling cycles are a constant and is a self protection device created by mom nature herself.Warming is caused by solar storms increasing in intensity.this radiation from solar flares create ozone, which protects us from radiation poisoning. The ozone layer thickens, keeping greenhouse gasses trapped. It's like a rice steamer for the planet. When the sun calms, the ozone thins and cooling happens.See 1978 newsweek headline"pending ice age"Seven years later, the same group of recipients of gov. grants claim global warming. Can you say"more funding is needed"

stalkinghorse...
If you or anyone else at TH are interested in facts-- as opposed to propagandistic distortions-- listen up.

Most left of center democratic parties around the planet associate with the Socialist International, including center-left oriented parties. Most of these parties gave up on The People Owning the Means of Production and other marxist notions in the 1980s, focusing on other items of the leftist agenda such as social democracy and certain environmental isues. It's appropriate for center-left such as some American Democrats to parttake.

"If McCain had any connections to a right wing equivalent..." Answer: As the Socialist International is a collection of differing left and center-left parties, so would the Republicans be expected to hang with other non-socialist democratic parties, such as the Christian Democrats in Germany and the Conservatives in Britain.

So, to paraphrase what the Wizard of Oz said to Dorothy: "Pay no attention to Liebau behind the (laptop) screen."

The Perfect Storm
A socialist by another name is a marxist. Global warming is simply a way to back door socialism.

If McCain had any connections to a right wing equivalent he would have been impaled, pilloried.

'the one' gets a pass. a new world order is upon us.

Socialist International. Hmmmmm. Wonder what they do?

the upshot is socialism will fail as we grow the size of government to unsustainable levels and presto chango a recession becomes a depression.

Read California...broke.

And speaking of back doors, even lowla will have to bend over and grab the ankles. It's called shared sacrifice.

bitter liebou
is typical. She is unable to see anything good in Obama or his "far left" admin.

Liebou is in no position to dictate what is consider too fa left or right anymore as she lost any objectivity she had long ago.

I wonder how long...
...before the EPA taxes all of us for letting loose CO2 from one end and CH4 from the other? They're already talking about taxing cows and pigs for doing the same.

And Lola, you'll be taxed just like the rest of us. Unless, of course, you want to fork over a ton of money for a carbon offset from Mr. Gore.
