DailyKos: MI Dems Should Vote for Mitt!
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 10:10 AM

Photobucket

The liberal DailyKos is encouraging Michigan Democrats to vote for Mitt Romney in the GOP Primary:

With a history of meddling in our primaries, why don't we try and return the favor. Next Tuesday, January 15th, Michigan will hold its primary. Michigan Democrats should vote for Mitt Romney, because if Mitt wins, Democrats win. How so?

For Michigan Democrats, the Democratic primary is meaningless since the DNC stripped the state of all its delegates (at least temporarily) for violating party rules. Hillary Clinton is alone on the ballot.

But on the GOP side, this primary will be fiercely contested. John McCain is currently enjoying the afterglow of media love since his New Hamsphire victory, while Iowa winner Mike Huckabee is poised to do well in South Carolina.

Meanwhile, poor Mitt Romney, who’s suffered back-to-back losses in the last week, desperately needs to win Michigan in order to keep his campaign afloat.  Bottom line, if Romney loses Michigan, he's out. If he wins, he stays in.

And we want Romney in, because the more Republican candidates we have fighting it out, trashing each other with negative ads and spending tons of money, the better it is for us. We want Mitt to stay in the race, and to do that, we need him to win in Michigan.

Other candidates on ballot.
In the piece, Kos says Clinton is the only person on the Democratic ballot. My understanding is that Kucinich and Gravel are also there. If so, Kos is guilty of the same oversight that I heard in an ABC news report today.

It's a scam as always
The kos site merely hopes to illegitimize a Romney win in Michigan by claiming that most of his votes came from sneaky democrats. The truth is that the kos people suspect that Romney will win the state fairly and wish to undermine any Republican victory.

If these losers really thought they could affect a primary election's outcome, then they would encourage their followers to vote for Pawn Paul. A Paul victory in any primary would seriously hurt the GOP. Deep down, however, the kos people know they don't really wield that much influence.
IGoCommando writes: Monday, January, 14, 2008 12:51 PM
I engorge myself with information...
...and I can't choose who I support. (I qualify that statement with overall electibility being a huge factor-- if I didn't I would default to Tancredo/Hunter everytime.) So how is Joe and Sally 'I pay as much attention as the evening news dispenses' supposed to settle on their candidate?

With all of this flux, today's polls are relevant as long as it takes for the ink on the page to dry.

All of this makes me think of another era when there was even more turmoil-- The election of 1860. The top candidates for the infant Republican Party were Seward (NY- Good Whig man, clear frontrunner) Judge Bates (MO's favorite son, good traction west of the Mississippi) Salmon Chase (OH- Instrumental in forming Republican Party so held a ton of influence, polarizing due to his abrasive demeanor and viewed as very abolitionist) and Abraham Lincoln (Very little experience in national public office. No real base outside of IL. Would have to scrap w/ Judge Bates for IN. No real politcal enemies in the party.)

The primaries back then were not what they are today. The delegates wouldn't succumb to the will of the state party's popular vote. The delegates themselves personally held the vote. So this isn't a perfect comparison to today's primary. However; the economic laws of delegates should still apply. The trick is when you have so much conflict, change, and turmoil is to become everybody's second choice (as Lincoln did.) When Seward could not come up w/ enough delegates to win the first ballot, a huge number defaulted to Lincoln, even more did this on the third, and Lincoln won on the fourth. Romney, by consistently taking 2nd places is far from falling out of the race. If he can just squeeze some wins here and there, and become the number 2 choice most everywhere else. He will second place himself right into the nomination.

Romney Doesn't Care
I have a question, if Mitt Romney is so concerned about Michigan and the people out of work, all that personal money (Millions just for ads) he has spent on his campaign and not touched any that candidates get given to them to run,Why hasn't he given that towards the poorest of families there. Why hasn't he come to Michigan to help them out, instead of saying he will help if he gets their vote and makes it to be president? Why hasn't he given his intelligence and business smarts to help before running for president?
Something to think about, Before thinking he is such a good guy. Will he even remember Michigan if he should become president.

Republicans vs. Democrats
To Danbar's comment. Haven't you learned not to believe evrything you read in the press?
I seen the offical papers you are talking about those ethic complaints were dismissed. Arkansas is full of Democrats and most the politicans are democrats. One of the charges was a blanket a woman gave them and they just guessed at the price at $100.00, and the ethics guessed it at $200.00. I have relatives that live all over Arkansas. For anyone that thinks the Democrats can beat Huckabee you are wrong, they are actually afraid for him to win. There has been people that does nothing but study politics has said this.
ROBZUC writes: Sunday, January, 13, 2008 11:45 PM
What happened?
I never hear about "lost causes" or "quagmires" anymore? The Doom-and-Gloom Democratic trumpet has become a shrill kazoo about "benchmarks". Or it's the up-coming "recession" or "the uninsured millions". Do Democrats ever see the glass as half-full?

So Far
So Far not many Dems seem to be willing to come over and vote in the Rep Primary. Most of them are for McCain which is no surprise.

4. "...religious intolerance has been holding (Romney) back so far in this young primary and those issues are hopefully largely behind us."

If you think so, why can't we leave intolerance of Huck's Baptist background behind?

Thanks :)
Tasmanian Jedi writes: Sunday, January, 13, 2008 4:27 PM
Danbar also says
3. "As a follower of Christ and a Baptist Preacher I would think Huck should have a record beyond reproach."

There is a New Testament basis for preachers being held to a higher standard.

But Huck is not now a preacher, and in fact has been a politician longer. He should be held to the same standard as the rest of the nominees, but I have to agree with you this much: I think they should all be above reproach.

So far, only Ron Paul, and Huck to a slightly lesser degree, are.
Tasmanian Jedi writes: Sunday, January, 13, 2008 4:26 PM
Danbar also says
2. "Rather than cooperating with investigators, Huckabee sued the state ethics commission twice and attempted to shut the ethics process down. (From Judicial Watch)"

Huck says all the "ethics" people were Democratic holdovers from Clinton's reign. He got tired of being dogged by them, I imagine, so legal redress seems appropriate.

Seeing how Democrats love endless investigations, such as Travis Co DA Ronnie Earle wasting taxpayer money here in Texas going after Tom DeLay, I wouldn't be surprised if the AK Dems shared the same motivation in going after Huckabee.

(In fairness, I will say that I think Kenneth Starr was overzealous. Bill Clinton may have been a lousy president, but that prosecution was like a soap opera.)

Danbar says
1. "The Associated Press: “[Huckabee’s] career has also been colored by 14 ethics complaints and a volley of questions about his integrity, ranging from his management of campaign cash to his use of a nonprofit organization to subsidize his income to his destruction of state computer files on his way out of the governor’s office.”"

I can't answer them all but re. the computer files Huck says they had lots of peoples' SSNs & other personal data, and destroying them was a safeguard.

Sorry, I forgot to mention Huckabee actually didn't make that claim (the 6-day one), he was asked in a debate, and joked he didn't know, because he wasn't there.

Dems for Romney
I was stunned when I saw the brilliance of your idea!!! You forgot one thing though—the Dems are already pushing Huck. It seems to be working! Huck gets wonderful and flattering coverage in all the media and he is starting to believe the crafty Dems. What genius!

Romney is no match for Huck. He has an MBA and a Law degree from Harvard. Huch spent two years in a non-accredited tiny Mormon hating Baptist school in Arkansas. Romney can evaluate complex science (such as stem cell breakthroughs). Huck believes that the world was created in six twenty four hour days.

Don't worry, if Huck wins the nomination the Dems won't have problem. It will be a landslide!
SteveL writes: Sunday, January, 13, 2008 9:02 AM
What if there is a brokered convention?
Suppose that after all the primaries and caucuses, the final delegate count looks something like this:

Giuliani: 30% of the delegates
McCain: 27%
Romney: 23%
Huckabee: 18%
Other: 2%

No candidate will have a majority of the delegates, and they're all fairly evenly split. The balloting could go on for days, maybe weeks, without a nominee.

Any ideas how to resolve this and get a nominee out of it?

A fusion ticket, perhaps? (Giuliani agrees to take Huckabee as his running mate)

Or maybe just leave it up to the cards? Say that all four candidates agree to play "Republican Hold'em." Each candidate gets a number of chips equal to the delegates he won. Then they all sit down and play enough hands of Texas Hold'em until one wins the whole pot.
SteveL writes: Sunday, January, 13, 2008 8:41 AM
what else DailyKOS has said
For quite a while now, the KOSkids have been licking their chops at the prospect of a brokered GOP convention and a badly split GOP party. That's what they want to see: a GOP convention that holds ballot after ballot, for days or weeks, without producing a nominee.

Asking their members to vote for Romney is not a reflection on which candidate is stronger. It's their attempt to improve the chances for a brokered convention, by supporting the weakest candidate who might otherwise have to drop out of the race.

If Huckabee were the weakest candidate of the three nationally, the KOSkids would be supporting him instead.

The facts are simple
to non-koolaid drinkers.

And they are that there isn't a snowball's chance in hell that our next POTUS will be from the Republican party. Voter turnout so far has been two to one for the Democrats.

The GOP doesn't have ANY candidates they like (or that America likes). Add that to the huge Democratic turnout this coming November, and you have a new POTUS who is a democrat, with a democratic congress.

Give me a forking break. DailyKOS has the mentality of a two year old. Mitt is the guy with the eloquence, policy position, expereience and rational mind to take the witless, celebrity smitten idiot Democrat worshipers of Obama, to the cleaners.

Child psychology may work on two year olds (and certain democrats) but it won't work on voters with a rational mind. Mitt is the guy that Democrats fear most and a plea to vote for him is a lame psychological plea to not vote for him.

Huck
Just two years ago, Huckabee appeared before the open-borders Hispanic group, The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), preaching an open-door policy.

According to the Arkansas News Bureau, Huckabee also criticized state legislation requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote and enhanced reporting of illegal aliens as un-Christian, un-American, irresponsible and anti-life — not to mention “inflammatory,” “race-baiting” and “demagoguery.”
BG writes: Saturday, January, 12, 2008 6:00 PM
Nature of the Race
The nature of this race has changed. Huckabee got almost no bounce in NH by winning IA. McCain is not getting much of a bound in MI.

Talk Radio has opened up on McCain and Huck as liberals. That will have an effect with the base.

Candidates are winning states that suit them. McCain beat Bush by 19 in NH, he was not as strong in 2008.

Romney is starting to emerge as the anti McCain instead of the anti Rudy. Rudy is even with McCain for NY in the latest SV poll. The polls are very erratic. Rudy and McCain will soon be dividing the liberal vote which will negate both of them.

Fred will probably diminish after SC. Huckabee has to win something pretty soon to get anything more than his religion only vote, which is limited in most states.
Danbar writes: Saturday, January, 12, 2008 2:35 PM
Truth Is, Romney Is Still Not Well Known
nationally. He will only get stronger as he moves into other states and more people get to know him and his record. He won't be able to overcome the obvious religious intolerance in a few states, but overall as he and his candidacy become better known he will be strengthened. Independent voters, liberal voters and religious intolerance has been holding him back so far in this young primary and those issues are hopefully largely behind us.

I was surprised to read a comment today from someone who didn't know about Mitt's shutting down his company and taking everyone to NYC to find a business associates missing 14 year old daughter as well as footing the cost of the operation (and it was a large operation for a private affair). Contrary to much of what is said about Mitt, he is a likeable and generous man. Time will only help him as the process advances.

Mitt is actually in a very strong position at this point as he leads in the overall vote and delegate count. Rudy will soon become the MSM man of the hour as he starts to pick up momentum in the big moderate states. I believe it will soon come down to Mitt and Rudy. May the most conservative man win.

Rather than cooperating with investigators, Huckabee sued the state ethics commission twice and attempted to shut the ethics process down. From Judicial Watch

As a follower of Christ and a Baptist Preacher I would think Huck should have a record beyond reproach.

Kos's dirty double-edged sword
Kos's encouragement of dem voters is an attempt to take credit away from Mitt if he wins in Michigan. If Mitt wins, Kos could say it was because of the dems.

Win or lose, Mitt's name is dirtied by association with Kos. Think of the TV ad -- Mitt endorsed by DailyKos. If he wins, it's because of the DailyKos endorsement and dem votes. If he loses, it's because of the DailyKos endorsement prior to the vote. Kos gets credit either way.

Will it work? Hopefully, individual voters aren't as dirty as Kos's double-edged sword.

Bits
I have found the influence of the media frightening. If they had not eagarly pimped Hillary's tear fest would she have won? Can any candidate win without their backing and help in pushing chosen bits of information? Romney has been tagged as the attacker but Thompson is applauded as finally coming alive when he attacks, Romney has been tagged as the flip flopper while the others just change or "come back". It isn't Washington that is broken, it is our electoral system. Just as the upset of the polling pundits in the NH race was satisfying, it would be more satisfying if Romney pulled this off with enough second place wins as he is written off each time.

And this is one that will.

Anybody who believes the garbage about Huck hasn't examined his record close enough.

"Maliciously conniving." What sad rhetoric coming from an apparent conservative.

Are we so turned off by GWB wearing his faith on his sleeve, only to have the GOP establishment push us out the door after each election, that we're willing to stab a brother in the back so quickly?

Or are you afraid of being called a sheep who checked his brain at the door, so you won't support Huckabee?

I tell you what, if Romney is the candidate, I'll be voting for him. Would you vote for Huck, if he's it? Or will you stay home and lets the Dems have it all?

Rudy: pro-choice, pro-gay, anti-gun
Mitt: "I'm a flipper not a flopper" pro-choice & pro-gay as short as 5 years ago
Fred: against the marriage & life amendments, voted no on impeaching Clinton
McCain: McCain/Feingold campaign finance reform, McCain/Kennedy/Bush amnesty

That leaves us with 2 choices.

If you think Huck is a big-government, pro-amnesty CINO, then Ron Paul's your man.

If you think Paul's an isolationist wackjob with neo-Nazis for supporters, and truly reducing the federal government & living by the Constitution are just pipe dreams, then Huck's your man.

Tom Monaghan for ROMNEY...

Domino’s Pizza founder and Catholic philanthropist Tom Monaghan has endorsed Republican Mitt Romney for president.

In a release from the Romney campaign, Monaghan praised Romney as a proven leader in business, the Olympics and politics. Monaghan in 1998 sold his majority interest in Domino’s Pizza to Bain Capital, a Boston investment fund that Romney founded.

“As someone who values the importance of faith in one’s life, I recognize in Mitt his deep religious convictions which will serve him well in facing the critical moral issues facing our society,” the release quotes Monaghan. “I believe he will stand firm on the pro-life issues and for the traditional family values that our country was founded on and which are so critical to the nation.”

Romney’s Mormon faith was an issue leading up to the Iowa caucus, and he delivered a speech in early December addressing concerns by some religious conservatives about his faith.

Monaghan, who once owned the Detroit Tigers, left Domino’s to create the Ave Maria Institute, which later became Ave Maria College, a Catholic liberal arts institution. The college became Ave Maria University in Florida, where he is chancellor.

Military Man consider this
Romney is winning in delegates. He isn't going to drop out because liberal MSM pundits fear him.

* Romney won Wyoming, and came in second in Iowa and New Hampshire.
* McCain had an edge in NH, because he left Iowa to go work on NH. However, while McCain only won 7 delegates in NH, because Romney choose to run in Iowa, Romney won 12 delegates in Iowa by taking second place! (NH only has 12 delegate slots, after having been penalized for moving their primary up.)
* Romney has more delegates than any other Republican candidate. (See image below.)
* In the first three state races, Romney has…
- beaten McCain 2 out of 3 times
- beaten Huckabee 2 out of 3 times
- beaten Rudy 3 out of 3 times
- beaten Thompson 3 out of 3 times
- beaten Ron Paul and all others 3 out of 3 times.
* Romney is the only candidate who has beaten EVERY OTHER candidate AT LEAST TWO out of THREE times.
* Romney raised more money than any of the Republican candidates and has the resources to continue fighting.

Dear Call At Home Team,

Thank you so much for dedicating time and energy to making calls in support of Governor Romney. The work you are doing, through the Call at Home program, made the difference in closing the gap in New Hampshire!

The results were astounding and are responsible for making this innovative program all the rage as we move into Michigan poised for victory. 84,000 calls were made in just over 9 hours!

Now, Michigan is a much larger state than New Hampshire, the primary is just a few days away on Tuesday, January 15, and the stakes are high … we need more callers than ever before. Please join us to make calls at the following times:

• Saturday, January 12, 3pm – 8:30pm - EST
• Sunday, January 13, 3pm – 8pm - EST
• Monday, January 14, 3pm – 8:30pm - EST

Reminder you can ONLY make calls during these calling hours. No calls can be made outside of those hours as the Call at Home program is shut off until then.

I don't care where the support comes from as long as it goes to Mitt. Yes, we want him in the race and in the White House. Mitt will do more good for this country than anyone since, well, Lincoln. (He has more talent than Reagan, and both are conservatives.)

So far Mitt has won the popular vote, even excluding Wyoming where he dominated with about 70% of the vote. (Add up Iowa and New Hampshire and see what you get!) He also has the most delegates, with 30 for Mitt, 21 for Huckabee, and 10 for McCain.

I disagree with whoever called McCain the stronger candidate. We saw McCain get squashed like a bug by Bush, who barely beat Gore and Kerry in the national election.

Normally I would be against mischief, but Kos got it right on who to pick.

Mitt ftw! Mitt for America! The only candidate who isn't in it for a salary and a book deal. (Mitt will turn down a salary, and what's more, he has earned enough money he won't be beholden to special interests.)

Thanks for the correction--and I agree with what you're pointing out--it is possible to keep coming in second and rack up delegates, technically. A big difference though, this time around, is the strong effect (for better or for worse) of the media pushing the front runners. Mitt tends to lose momentum when perceived as nothing better than second best. This affects perception in the states that have yet to vote in primaries--it affects the undecided vote too. Bottom line though, I think, is that if Romney gets the majority of the republicans, he SHOULD be the nominee.

Is it possible to keep coming in second in multiple states and receiving some delegates, then win a few states and become the over all winner because the "winner" from each state changes?

In a way (though I am not completely familiar) isn't this like Nascar in that someone can be so consistent that because they win a few states and come in second in so many that they win the over all points competition...

Is this even possible?

Markos Moulitsas is calling for Democrats to vote in the Republican primary in Michigan... His reasoning is that it benefits the Democrats to keep the remaining Republicans in the race.

"If we can help push Mitt over the line, not only do we help keep their field fragmented, but we also pollute Romney's victory. How "legitimate" will the Mittster's victory look if liberals provide the margin of victory? Think of the hilarity that will ensue. Mitt Romney will win the nomination because the bigger states don't have open primaries like New Hampshire and South Carolina. I think Kos WOULD like to keep Republicans trashing each other. I also think they can read polls like anyone else. McCain beats Hillary and Obama; Romney does not. And face it, Rombots: no one has really gone after Romney with any gusto yet. A "contrast" ad campaign of the liberal Romney clips vs. the New Romney would be DEVASTATING in the general.

Good point. Pollsters consistently conclude that McCain is the only viable candidate that beats B. Hussein Obama and Clinton. However, I do think polls will tighten with the ultimate selection of a GOP nominee, so presumably Mitt will not just be a walk-over against the liberal socialist Democratic candidate.

Out of the Shadows into the light
JFK won the Presidency thanks to his father's connection to organized crime, unions, and the voting fraud occuring in key states.

Gore (2000 election) lobbied to have all the votes from soldiers serving outside the US nullified because the Military postmaster had mailed their votes 1 day late.

This public call by KOS to interfere with the Republican nomination process just furthers proves the point - Democrats don't care about democracy. They're intent is to win at all costs.

Hopefully Americans will see this effort and reject ALL democrat candidates.

Dems rooting tor Mitt
Mitt is a proven loser, a slimy campaigner who doesn't help himself but only tears down other Republicans. He's poison for our November chances.

Of COURSE Kos wants Mitt. He's the Democrats choice, because he'll lose, and lose so badly the Dems will be able to push whatever agenda they want in 2009.

Even if they just keep him viable, he can do enough damage to the eventual nominee that the GOP will have no chance in November. The Democrats LOVE Mitt.

DUMP ROMNEY! Enough is enough!

Mitt v Hill or Obama
The natiional general election polls still don't mean much because more people are still fixated on Guliani and McCain. Once we get a nomination, even if it is Ron Paul, the polls, I predict, will get close to 50-50 like they always do. One national poll had Paul beating Hillary! Those things are close to useless

Hucks getting Dems too Matt!
http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080109/NE WS06/801090310

This all comes back to why are we letting Dems or even Indies vote in what is supposed to be a "Republican" primary? That's where the blame goes...and it as history shows...Repubs have done it to Dems as well. That is where this needs to be fixed.
NAlcoba writes: Friday, January, 11, 2008 1:29 PM
Either way
The libs and the media will spin things to get Obama elected, whether they want McCain or Mitt as the candidate. If they think McCain's the weaker candidate, then they'll push him to the front. What matters is republicans will be selecting the republican candidate. Mitt has 24 delegates, McCain's got 10...there's still a loooonnnngggg way to go before either accumulate 1000+ needed for the nomination. It cracks me up that the anti-Romney's that say he's finished. So much can happen between now and February 5. Hold your horses, make a case for your candidate, and let's duke it out.

Liberal Manipulation . .
The goal here isn't to rehabilitate Mitt, its to prejudice any win he might get in MI. Liberals don't want Mitt; the MSM doesn't want Mitt; they want the GOP to self implode. This just gives Mitt's opponents talking points if they lose in Michigan, and additional fuel against Mitt. This is so transparent. The MSM has only ever had one story on Mitt, which is "surely Mitt is dead now". The American electorat will deserve what's coming to them . . .

Neato!!
I for one would enjoy seeing these nutty kids doing this.
As a Republican, I'm having a blast watching these rino's going after each other...it's amusing.

I actually spent about a half an hour reading posts on that KOS sight for pure entertainment purposes....Talk about absolute nut jobs...that website is a riot, 99% of the facts they tout are so obviously and easily proven wrong...It's cute.

I like Mitt
On the issues, I agree most with Fred Thompson, but Mitt, at least in his current incarnation, comes close. And I actually like Mitt - his debate performances are good, and I respect a man who was so successful in his business while also taking care of his people. I read somewhere that when one of his employee's daughters turned up missing, Mitt called a halt to work and had everyone help search for her. He paid people to help find the missing child, instead of making a profit for his company. Obviously the guy cares about people. He also has stayed faithful to his high school sweetheart through a struggle with MS.

If the media could high light these types of things about Mitt, I think people would like him much better. But so far, most people don't know this stuff.

McCain would probably smoke Hillary in the general election. Unless more of Mitt's sterling character comes out, he could lose to Hillary.

I will vote for the GOP candidate regardless - even the ones I don't like are still better than any of the Dems. However, which GOP candidate is most likely to beat Hillary? Probably McCain...
FromTheTop1 writes: Friday, January, 11, 2008 11:18 AM
Democrats will vote
for McCain and so will the Independents. They gave him the win in New Hampshire. I just hope there's not enough of them to beat Mitt Romney. The MSM and just about everybody else DOES NOT want Mitt Romney to win. They know he is the man who will really clear out the wasteful spending by useless bureaucrats and professional, political parasites in Washington, D.C.. He is the only man who will bring the jobs back to Michigan and every other state in the country. Mitt Romney is the only man who can. The other candidates are just rhetoric about what they will do.

Hard to know
I think Kos WOULD like to keep Republicans trashing each other.

Kos is an idiot
But I do hope his blind followers take his advice. It will be wonderful watching it blow up in their face as Mitt casts Barry O or Missus C aside.

Dems getting tricky
Ah, good old reverse psychology. We know they want Huckabee or McCain as our canidate, so they try this to make us think they really want Romney in order to cause doubt in the conservatives.

KOS
This is not encouragement. He is advocating political corruption of the electoral system. This is no longer activism. Some of the things that were done during Watergate were political pranks and election mishchief; what Kos is advocating. People went to prison for this.

KOS is no longer just another nutroot. He is a power house in the Democratic Party and the Media. He is advocating the same type of political corruption he rants about. Kos has no ethics or standards. He is a hypocrite and this behavior borders on the criminal.

Matt Lewis again...
He's as desperate as Hugh: he doesn't want McCain to have to take all the Dem/Independent votes while Romney wins the Republican votes.
RASHUM writes: Friday, January, 11, 2008 10:28 AM
going to just 1/2 agree
I do believe that McCain is a stronger candidate and will win Michigan. However, their point about more Republican candidates in the race fighting it out is false.

In 1988 George H. W. Bush won the nomination early and Dukakis and Jackson fought it out for the next couple months. In those months both Dukakis and Jackson got tons of press converge and George H. W. Bush was for the most part forgotten. By the time Dukakis won the nomination he had a 10 point lead in the polls simply because of all the press he received and that George H. W. Bush had basically been on the sidelines for that period.

Hmm, you'd think they'd go for McCain
John McCain has more genuine Democratic Support.
