Where's the "Stimulus"?
Posted by: Kevin Glass at 6:17 PM
Preliminary results from Barack Obama's stimulus are coming in. The news is not good.

Four months on from Barack Obama's stimulus package, we're seeing an explosion of analysis of what's actually been happening to the hundreds of billions of taxpayer money being doled out.

Recovery.org has been doing a great job tracking where stimulus money is going and for what, and has worked as a non-partisan alternative counter to the Obama administration's propaganda website Recovery.gov. Recovery.org has a handy and detailed list that includes a list of "most recent" stimulus projects, "most expensive" projects, and what Americans are saying. It's an invaluable and unbiased resource for Americans concerned with Obama's spending projects.

The Reason Foundation has just released the "Taxpayer's Guide to the Stimulus." The guide breaks down stimulus spending by category, department and project. Their findings are depressing.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act largely just provides general funds to government agency budgets, bloating the already large bureaucracy. The stimulus bill does not focus on fiscal responsibility, but rather makes the government even larger, funding many untested programs that could significantly add to government waste. From funding the War on Drugs to Comparative Effectiveness Research, the policy implications of the stimulus spending will leave a permanent stamp on the future of the American economy and society.
Concerned Americans can be thankful that we have resources other than the White House's own findings to really discover where massive amounts of taxpayer money is being spent.

Thank You, Recovery.org,
for verifying what anyone with a brain stem understood from the start. It's a Ponzi Scheme of Vast Proportions. This research nails it down specifically and is far more of a Public Service than 3-card monty HQ at the White House.

I love the
3.4 million for the "Turtle Crossing" in Florida. Also, the 10 million to restore an old "Train Station" that is never used.

Yes, yes and just think Joe (foot in mouth) Biden is in charge of accounting for it all. What was that he said during the campaign? "barack knows what's really important in this campaign, that ""three"" letter word....
JOBS!

Bwahahahahahahahahaha!
Hillarity writes: Wednesday, June, 17, 2009 7:07 PM
What's important:
3/4s of Americans want a Public Option to healthcare (in spite of the lies the GOP is selling us)

Fewer Americans trust the GOP to make the right decisions on our healthcare than they trust the insurance industry (both come in around 32%, with private insurance being slightly more trustworthy)

More Americans trust Dems to make the right healthcare decisions, and even MORE trust Barack Obama to make those decisions.

Even after having to deal with auto industry bailouts, HUGE deficits leftover from Bush's regime, and the nightmare economy leftover from Bush/Cheney mismanagement, President Obama still enjoys a very favorable rating among Americans. We KNOW what he has to deal with, and in spite of very toxic rightwing spin, the pervasive sentiment is that Bush left our new President a nightmarish scenario to lead from.
Col Bat Guano writes: Wednesday, June, 17, 2009 7:09 PM
Jeez
Oink, oink, are the two words that popped in my mind browsing Recovery's list of ARRA "projects." Most of these projects are towards government bureaucracy pets like playgrounds for "lakeside parks." Eh? I did see some worthwhile energy projects in there but those were far and few between.

Error, errr, Erynn
As always, you are wrong...

In the latest Gallup Poll, Obama’s favorability remains high (67 percent), as does his job-approval rating (61 percent). But only 55 percent approve of his handling of the economy, just 45 percent approve of his handling of federal spending and only 46 percent approve of his treatment of the budget deficit.

Meanwhile, the Rasmussen poll finds that the public now trusts Republicans over Democrats in managing the economy (for the first time in two years) by 42 percent to 36 percent.

K.G. writes: Wednesday, June, 17, 2009 9:25 PM
What? Obama's Megalomaniacal...
...insane spending isn't working? Feature that!

NONE of his idiotic ideology will work. Building a dog park in Chula Vista, CA, will not save the economy. Hiring some teens for the summer will not save the economy. The turtle trail will not save the economy.

Overhauling the entire financial system (today's project) will not save the economy. Overhauling the entire healthcare system will not save the economy.

I'm not exactly comparing BO to Hitler....except that it was finally determined by Hitler's countrymen that Hitler was nutz. At some point Americans will come to the realization that BHO is a wack job.

People will be slapping their foreheads, moaning what WERE we thinking?

Maybe "thinking" is the operative word here.

Dose of Reality,
You can find a very succinct letter on is subject, written by an average citizen to our "leaders" here:

All of you who care about the future of our country, please listen to this writer. Stand up and be heard.

If Americans don't wake up and pay attention, it will be no one's fault but our own when the house of cards comes tumbling down.

Julie writes: Wednesday, June, 17, 2009 10:24 PM
Sloandog,
The house of cards I was referring to was the good old USA, not the current administration. I agree with you that Obama will have very little popular support by 2012.

One of my concerns is that popular support won't matter in 2012, because he'll have control of almost everything (including the voting booths and support from ACORN). Unless TRUE conservtives take action.

This country needs more REAL conservative leadership. Give me a Jim DeMint, a Sarah Palin, a Bobby Jindal, and show them videos of Margaret Thatcher. Man, she was tough!

Then show them videos of Ronald Reagan. He was tough underneath, but could melt your heart with his smile (seems Gov. Palin has already learned this).

The Republican Party needs to get its act together now for the 2010 elections. I'm not all that thrilled with the party after last year's performance, but it's the only vehicle we have to stop this madness.

Sign the petition!

Judging Barak, using Bush as baseline
Here is the problem with these 'analysts' d'jour, noting that they ignored Bush's spending and only addressed it when it could not longer be ignored i.e. 700 points lost in the stock market and Bush begging congress for the 875B bailout for his rich cronies in wall street. But I digress.

If we judge Barak using Bush, he will prevail and be re-elected in 2012 for these few facts. In the past 8 years we had;

1. Historic financial meltdown
2. Historic low military moral i.e. Abu Grab
3. Historic low credibility i.e. No WMD's ooops!
4. Historic pre emptive war i.e. Iraq
5. Historic spending from Bush
6. Historic confusion on immigration policy i.e. Z visas?????
7. Historic confusion on detainees i.e. Gitmo somebody put these people here without thinking how he will get them out if they are not guilty mmmmmmmm

No matter how you slice it, Bush messed up so badly that Barak smells like a Rose - except to the partisan hacks of course:)

Tarp 1 belongs to Bush everything else belongs to Obama. In fact, Bush was a miser compared to Obama. Congress only taxes and spends and the House is up for reelection in 2010...

After Tarp 1 failed Obama passed Tarp 2...

Obama promised his Stimulus bill would boost the economy but we have gone from 8 percent unemployment to 9.4 percent...

The Omnibus bill otherwise called a porkfest was filled with 9,000 earmarks none of them stimulated the economy either.

Immigration, the war in Iraq, Gitmo, the financial meltdown and everything else belongs to Obama. Furthermore, Bush isn't running for president in 2012 so Obama won't be able to play the blame game again.
Sheik writes: Thursday, June, 18, 2009 1:56 AM
Marty - troubling facts don't go away
Bush spent half of the 875B and gave GM and other institutions the money with the agreement that Obama would conclude the matter of how to bring recovery and improve these organizations.

Not if you include his 'emergency budgets' which republicans love to exclude when calculating Bush's spending. But assume you are right, republicans still vote with big business and ignore bread and butter issues. Obama will still have enough support from congress to complete the CHANGE agenda in 8 years.

Tartp 1 failed because Bush gave his wall street cronies money without any preconditions, or audit requirements. They used it to PARTY BIG TIME and we have pictures. Obama put the breaks including those obscene CEO bonuses that had the GOP screaming. When it comes to the PR war, Obama is KING and he will be re-elected!

So Bush is in charge for 8 years and he is not responsible AT ALL for the mess, but Obama who is president for 6 months is responsible? Got it! These are the illogical lies americans rejected in 2008 and they will reject them again.

"The Omnibus bill otherwise called a porkfest was filled with 9,000 earmarks none of them stimulated the economy either".

TRUE but republicans have earmarks longer than their Iraqi Lies. Americans will call it a wash.

"Immigration, the war in Iraq, Gitmo, the financial meltdown and everything else belongs to Obama. Furthermore, Bush isn't running for president in 2012 so Obama won't be able to play the blame game again".

Bush isn't running and to his credit he has afforded this president his silence. Cheney has been talking reminding americans what a SHAME it was to have such war mongering lying greedy profit first and nothing else leaders in america. I pray you keep Cheney and McCain talking. And for sure, keep Rush in the center of everything you plan to do BECAUSE IT WILL MAKE IT THAT MUCH EASIER......

I found the stimulus......
hiding under the hood and sheets being displayed on TH tonight. Has anyone actually ever given Obama a compliment on this site?

Last I heard everyone was complaining about all the 'positive press' Obama is receiving. Is this article part of that 'positive press'. Just asking??????

The stimulus can be found when the 10 year plans are fully implemented in 2019- ish.
Marty writes: Thursday, June, 18, 2009 2:41 AM
Sheik: Democrats have all the power
They are running the economy into the ground.

Democrats have all the power and with power comes responsibility and with responsibility comes blame if things fall apart.

So the last I heard Demcorats won the election, Demcorats are in charge, Democrats are shutting out Republicans and Democrats are calling Republicans the party of NO.

According to Obama the Stimulus was an emergency measure to save the economy, but now you say it will start working in 2019.

Sheik writes: Thursday, June, 18, 2009 3:00 AM
Marty - did you read the stimulus?
This was Obama's 10 year spending plan. The money requested is being spent over the next 10 years with specific projects beginning this summer and most of them being started in 2010 - just in time for election and ALL of the being started by 2012 - just in time to re-elect Barack. BRILLIANT!

Nobody claims that ALL solutions can be found in the stimulus and Barack did CAUTION that it will get worse before it gets better. Fair minded americans realize that Barack inherited a BIG MESS and that he can't make it all go away with ONE BILL. Barack said that too.....but in your selective memory you pick on the issue of unemployment where he was wrong to predict it won't rise above 8%.
Marty writes: Thursday, June, 18, 2009 3:36 AM
Not since 1929
during the Great Depression blah, blah, blah, is what we heard so Obama could pass an EMERGENCY stimulus bill. So now the emergency really won't kick in until 2019.

Do you actully believe Obama's hope and change mantra of smaller government, transparency, no earmarks, no lobbyists, no special interest groups is hype and people aren't buying the hype anymore.

Obama is a politican who reads lines from a telepromter. He's not special he's dishonest.

SJA writes: Thursday, June, 18, 2009 8:26 AM

The stimulus was nothing more than a wish list in waiting. Obama and his crew used fear as a means to pass projects that they had in waiting for years. A stimulus, approximately 1000 pages, not read by one single politician and certainly not the president was quickly pushed through under the pretense that it would immedialy pump up the economy. Do you really think people would have sat back and let this happen if they knew that it was a 10 year plan as you suggest. Many of the projects set to be funded by this bill certainly do little to help our raging unemployment. Things like a turtle tunnel and the marsh mouse will by no means help lower our unemployment rate. As people begin to realize that this was never a stimulus bill at all they will start to see its real purpose. This was as Rahm said a crisis that did not go to waste. Dems used this crisis to satisy their self serving agenda. The American people were not considered, just the satisfaction of the left leaning politicians.

Words of Wisdom
"This was Obama's 10 year spending plan. The money requested is being spent over the next 10 years with specific projects beginning this summer and most of them being started in 2010 - just in time for election and ALL of the being started by 2012 - just in time to re-elect Barack. BRILLIANT!"

So at last an Obamamaniac admits that the Stimulus Bill had nothing to do with jobs. Too bad said troll doesn't realize that the 14 million unemployed will disagree, and may take out thier anger on Obama, Pelosi, and Reid in 2010 and 2012.

As a matter of fact, plenty of money is being made available for "unstimulus" like projects (covering state budget shortfalls, subsidizing the autobailout ,etc...). Already the CBO has said as much as $50 billion of stimulus money cannot be accounted for. Add that to another $70 billion that Treasury refuses to disclose, and one can easily assume $120 billion has disappeared into thin air.
Exeye writes: Thursday, June, 18, 2009 10:51 AM
What he wants
See, if you hate capitalism and freedom and self-determination, then this is what you do- destroy the economy, take away people's mobility and make them dependent on you for healthcare. Sounds like a well devised, long range plan. Or such egregiously stupid blundering it mimics a long range plan. You choose.
David writes: Thursday, June, 18, 2009 12:38 PM
Can ANYONE
name ANYTHING government has EVER done which resulted in a PROFIT being created? Government cannot stimulate an economy unless it gets OUT OF THE WAY! This one won't, so what does it want? That is obvious - the perminant destruction of captialism... and America as our founding fathers set us up. Instead of escaping old Europe, we are becoming it.
