San Francisco Re-Approves Sanctuary City Law
Posted by: Meredith Jessup at 12:14 PM
The San Francisco Board of Supervisors agreed yesterday on a measure to prohibit law enforcement officials from turning over minors convicted of felonies over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement following their arrest.

The city's mayor had previously opposed this policy after the city protected young offenders, including Edwin Ramos, an undocumented immigrant and suspected gang member from El Salvador who was charged with multiple felonies as a minor, who was able to stay in the U.S. following his arrest because of sanctuary city regulations.  Ramos is now awaiting trial for a triple-murder charge.  Nice.

Since the mayor changed the policy, 149 undocumented juveniles charged with felonies have been referred to immigration officials, ICE said.

The newly approved measure is supported by civil rights groups, immigrant advocates and the Juvenile Division of the Public Defender's Office, who contend it restores the right of minors to due process and gives them a chance to defend themselves before facing possible deportation and separation from their families. ...

Those siding with the mayor -- the police chief and district attorney, among others -- argue the new ordinance will force officers to go against federal law by shielding undocumented immigrants and exposing the city to lawsuits.

"The mayor is not going to force his own law enforcement officials to break state and federal law just because supervisors have made this Quixotic gesture," said Nathan Ballard, a spokesman for Newsom. "If you have committed a serious crime, there is no sanctuary for you."

The measure must now go to Newsom, who has said he would veto it. Supervisors have said they would overturn his veto, a move likely to touch off a legal fight.

You have a prolem with my statement b1tch, well if anyone is going to be murdered, why should it be a tourist or a citizen that has no control over how the city supervisors vote. Pull your head out of your azzz i didn't say I hope there is another murder, again I hope IF there is another murder, not that I hope there is another murder know we know you can't spell or comprehend a post either guess that leaves drinking and getting drunk to your expertise.

san francisco is a great place
http://www.examiner.com/x-13006-SF-Events-Examiner~y2009m10 d20-San-Francisco-voted-top-city-in-the-US

We already knew, but now we have confirmation that we are the best! A new readers poll from Conde Nast Traveler Magazine's has voted San Francisco as the number one spot to find friendly people/hospitality. This is the 17th year San Francisco has topped the list, we do share top billing this year with Vancouver. If you would like to see it in print the readers poll will appear in the magazines November issue. Charleston, S.C., took the No. 2 spot on the U.S. cities list, followed by Santa Fe, N.M.

So, wrong again, folks. People love this place.

And they have universal health plans.

Yup those gays are always happy to welcome you. Even offer you a bed for the night if you are a male. Oh yeah and the homeless and illegals flock there as well.

how often do you visit SF? Just two or so weeks ago, the Blue Angels did their annual show over the city. Town was full of retired military, etc. You have no idea what the City is like, what the people are like, you just have stereotypes. Is it more tolerant than you are? That wouldn't be particularly difficult.

But, please, don't visit there. The lines to get on the cable cars are already long, hotels are still very expensive, and the throngs on the Golden Gate bridge and thru all the other sites are large.

I like it even better than my wonderful town, LA.

Lots of folks are murdered every day in this country, largely because there are too many guns.

Doesn't mean that SF isn't one of our top 5 cities.

Most murders in this nation are committed by US citizens, by a long shot. So stop the nonsense about one cause celebre for you reactionaries.

Yes, your thread is about another line of hate and fear by the reactionaries at Town Hall. As someone who has visited SF on a regular basis for almost 40 years, I believe that I have a far better idea of the kind of place it is than you who simply bash. Since it is the number one tourist destination, that 'murder' you brought up obviously has no meaning to most Americans. The restaurants are the best in the world, the sights beyond compare, and the people--whether they are living out in the Avenues, the Haight, the Castro, Pacific Heights, Potrero Hill, North Beach--are absolutely terrific.

Meanwhile, Laramie, Wyoming is known for being the hunting grounds for brainless gay bashers and murderers. Gee, Ma, where should we go for vacation this year, to the hicks of Wyoming or SF?

TH reactionaries...if you fear it, you post. If you hate it, you post. If you don't understand it, you post. Is there ever anything you people like? You are the most unhappy, complaining bunch I've ever seen.

I fear people being killed by stupid supervisors, not trying to catch criminal illegal aliens. I hate that our citys don't protect their citizens from illegal aliens. I understand that this city is not taking care of the people that are legally allowed there. You and the drunk b1tch Val have this hang up I'm not happy, you are both wrong i'm so very happy , happy I don't live in a hell hole that you two idiots live in, finally you believe in following laws like Roe, you always say change the law amend the constitution, well idiot it is illegal for these people to be in this country like it is illegal for women to be forced to carry a child in pregnancy to term, so I just want the law followed idiot. Another idiot going off half cocked about wyoming cause a gay was murdered there the whole state is for murdering gays your are so bigoted just stay out of my backyard.
sceptyczny writes: Wednesday, October, 28, 2009 3:25 PM
does Cheyenne count?
I fly there once or twice a year when I ski or golf in Steamboat Springs. Decent airport, nice enough people. But I surely would not want to be an out gay man or woman in Wyoming.

Crime really isn't that bad in SF. I've never felt unsafe there, or in Cheyenne, for that matter. How many violent crimes are actually committed by 'illegals', as opposed to "latinos" (I know you can't tell the difference, can you?).

I'm sorry, but when I listen to reactionaries, all I hear is fear and hate. Harvey Milk once said that if all gay and lesbian people told all their friends and family that they were gay or lesbian, few anti-gay laws would ever pass. I agree with him. Don't look now, Big Sky, but that wrangler on the next ranch may well be gay.

The wrangler at the next ranch is not gay azzzwipe his son is, and I would never think of killing him either, nor would my brother from Wyoming.

If you want to hang with gays try Jackson Hole, the residents don't seem too offened by their presence there. Yeah flying there a couple times a year and I know your rubbing shoulders with the folks so you know how everyone feels about gays in the whole state, sounds like your over reacting to and jumping to conclusions about the good folks of Wyoming being gay murderers, that is just your liberal assesment of the world according to another dumbazzzz.

how often do you go to SF? Yet you taint the entire city by a few news items. Most in SF live basic, boring, normal lives. Gay or straight.

I've skied at Jackson Hole. Nice spot, but as my knees age, there and Sun Valley are a bit too tough for me. Need the broader spaces of Steamboat's wally world and Snowmass. Used to love Deer Valley--great for my sons when they were growing up, that's where they finally overtook the wife and me on some of the slopes and we knew we were getting old--but can't go to Utah til they keep their mormon noses out of California's political system.

Yup. A boycott. A one family boycott, perhaps, but I have to vote with the only thing I have that Utah or Wyoming might want...my wallet.

you taint the whole friggin state of Wyoming you azzzzhole by the murder of a gay man.

One of our sons went to school in the bay area, spent alot of time there. I have a cousin there, I have a sister-in-law that lives there, what difference does that make idiot.
sceptyczny writes: Wednesday, October, 28, 2009 5:01 PM
Because, Sky, I know you know better
you know that SF is no different than any other major world city. I often see tourists in SF, and I wonder just what they think when they go into Macy's @ Union Square and realize that the entire big store (one of 2 on or adjacent to the square) is devoted just to men's stuff? I wonder what they think when they go to a famous restaurant like Zunis and sit among gay and lesbian couples and their kids having a nice meal.

So, you know that the SF Bay area is diverse. It has its gay bashers and gays. It has all kinds of people. Wyoming is no more just about Mathew Shepard's murderers than SF is about bathhouses.

I know you know that, and you can't say that because you don't want your buddies here to think you've gone soft. But if we are going to judge SF by the few illegal alien crimes, then we have to judge Wyoming by the few illegal gayphobe crimes, right?
Big Sky Cowboy writes: Wednesday, October, 28, 2009 5:17 PM

First off I don't post or not post something, that might not have my friends agree with me or not, my opinion is my opinion, my friends don't have to agree with me on everything.

Who judged the whole city of SF by a murder or a couple of murders or by any crime stats, I said that IF the city supervisors have this little respect for their citizens or tourists, that they allow illegal aliens to avoid being arrested and dealt with that, IF one more murder happens I hope it is not a tourist or a citizen I hope it is a city supervisor or someone that a city supervisor loves. Illegal Aliens that are in gangs that kill people should be taken care of, or we can worry about their rights so the can kill more innocent people , you decide.
sceptyczny writes: Wednesday, October, 28, 2009 5:20 PM
you are generalizing
more gang members in SF, LA, SLC, Dallas, are American born and bred. And they kill mostly each other.

Most murders are also committed in Liberal zip codes. 6 times higher rate per 1000 in Counties BHO won last fall. Why is that? And people think the tea-partiers are the ones out of control...

LA is not a town. Its a sprawl. But of course as Kaboom, you barely ventured outside your Westside bubble. I suppose thats true as a scepty also.

The case we are discussing The Bologna case involved an illegal alien killing a father and two sons , don't jump around I'll have to smack you in the head to keep you in one place, this one case not every other murder in every other city by non illegals just this one case, GEEZ.
