Mark Sanford Does Argentina
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 12:54 PM
... Well, at least he has good taste

It turns out that instead of hiking the Appalachian Trail, South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford was, instead, in Buenos Aires

As you may recall, I visited Buenos Aires back in '07, and found it quite delightful.

Unlike the governor, however, I did tell a few folks where I was going.

This line from A Few Good Men comes to mind,

You were leaving for one day and you packed a bag and made three phone calls. Santiago was leaving for the rest of his life, and he hadn't called a soul and he hadn't packed a thing. Can you explain that?

Sex Tourism
Argentina is a notorious sex tourism hot spot for older gay American men. Just saying folks.

Common sense and respect for your family, and your office. I tell my wife were I'm going when I'm going to town,I surely would let her know if I was heading out of country.

but is he that risk taking a dude?
Wow if true.

Otherwise, I think he would have gotten more traction from saying he was abducted by aliens.

That is a possibility, but they have some great restaurants too, it was a stupid trip because Sanfords wife wasn't told nor was his staff, very poor judgement, but I won't jump to the sex tourism angle just yet till there is proof.

Other than jealousy
what is the problem here? Why do so many of you get upset when others do well? Can't you be happy for them? I noticed South Carolina is still on the map. Nothing bad has happened. So, what's the problem (other than petty jealousy)?

So if you were to travel to San Francisco, could we ASSume you were there to visit Bathhouses?

In California, it the Governer leaves the State, the Lt Gov is in charge. Since they are both elected separately, it makes for some 'quick' appointments and decisions while #2 is in charge. Is there something similar going on, hence the secret?

Takes off on Fathers Day weekend and doesn't tell the wife. The staff seems confused. Either the guy has some problem or acting flaky.
COLDPLAYLOVER writes: Wednesday, June, 24, 2009 1:31 PM
wait a second folks
the sexual tourism thing is funny, but just a rumor.

But let's get real...he TOLD NO ONE, not even the LT. Gov. I don't care if he thought the Lt. Gov. was going to turn the State Capital into a late abortion mill, or a brothel, you have duties that you must meet, and leaving the state without telling anyone (and possibly you did this before, except this time you don't tell your wife), well, the world 'flake' comes to mind, or even Romney (remember when he said he was brainwashed?).

And if you go beyond the concept of 'flake', you have to wonder why someone would be that irresponsible. How old are his kids? Does he just leave them too? And he drives from his state to Atlanta to take a plane?

I'm sorry, I'd say the same thing if some Dem up and went AWOL like this...flake, crazy, maybe more. Not very important in the scheme of things, but when you have Ensign failing in his job of electing senators because he is having sex with a subordinate and paying her, her hubby and her son with campaign funds, when you have Craig, and Vitter, and others (Dems too) acting like this, well, what a group of great men and women we have running this country. LOL.

David, no jealousy here, as a husband and a father I take responsibility to my wife and family that they know where I'am. As I said I won't go to the extreme that ReadABook does without proof.

well, what rankles me is the party of family values trashing those values, then sitting in judgment of 'liberals' who never try to pretend that they are 'morally' perfect.

Your political differences with Pelosi, et al, involve morality only when you want to cut social programs that they want to keep.

But for now, let's have a bit of fun with Gov. Sanford. As Ricky Ricardo used to say...Mark, 'you've got some 'splainin' to do...'

I believe in family values, if a politician I support falls off the values wagon they loose my support. Morals are morals no matter what party you are from, if you are immoral unethical a thief and you are serving in our government you should not be there, someone who is not ethical tends to line their pockets, not looking out for who they serve back home, why should they be rewarded with being sent back to Washington to steal more and serve us less?

Don't cry out.
When I think of Buenos Aires, my mind doesn’t race immediately to homosexual assignations.
I wouldn’t know to race to ‘gawker’ to line up, virus breeding behavior. One knows what they know, I suppose.

When I think of Argentina, I think of all the rich Italian emigration and tradition there. I think of great soccer teams such as “Boca Juniors” and its great Ludovico Bidoglio.

I think of equestrian sports, the polo, the pampas, and the gaucho tradition. Perhaps I think of the politics, the Peronistas, and perhaps, I muse of Viola, Videla, and Galtieri. I just never immediately think of the virus breeders, when hearing of Argentina. Call me normal.

As to the Governor, if any of this is correct, he is woefully inappropriate for his post. In the military, one does not go out of country; take a personal change of station, even when off duty, without giving notice and seeking permission. Too much can go wrong, too much time can be expended looking for someone that has gone off the scope.

The Chief Executive of a State has the same duty to the State as a person in the Military owes their command. Absent some State business that requires a sub-rosa absence, the Governor was required to have some person aware of his plans. And then there is the issue of family and their rights to know where their loved one may be.

I’ll wait for this to play out but my first blush is not to race to the prurient.

I don't think I really disagree with you, but there is a huge difference in my mind between pols who 'steal' (as in pork projects, boondoggles, which I hate), and those who play 'family values' and when they get caught, well, gosh darn, they are fallen, etc.

No one is perfect. But if you are going to tell me that gay marriage, for example, undermines straight marriage, spare me your pov when it turns out you are either carousing with a fellow employee in Argentina (and likely have been though your wife seems to be in on the gig, judging by her reaction--power seduces even wives (i.e. Elizabeth Edwards, Hillary Clinton, Mrs. Jesse Jackson, Mrs. Ensign, Mrs. Vitter, Mrs. Craig))or doing other 'fun stuff' in Argentina.

I am with you. I do not care which party these guys come from if they are bad they are bad. I hate when people keep going back and forth on who is worse. I cringe when I hear Kennedy's name and hero in the same sentence. Having an affair should not be the only reason that these guys should be kicked out in shame. I like you think that anything they do that is nothing more than self serving and cheats the people of this country is equally as bad.

More troubling than Matt lets on
The lighthearted approach to Sanford's disappearance masks the real concerns that the GOP should have over this. Sanford left evidence of trying to fool everyone, even his wife, concerning his whereabouts. What kind of father leaves his family without word of where he was going, and on Father's Day Weekend? There is evidence he was not in Buenas Aires alone, and it seems there will be more coming out on this story as time goes on.

At the very least, this isn't the kind of person we should ever want to be in the White House, especially when that "3 am" call is considered a big part of the determining factor. One needs to know where their leaders are, including the second in charge.

you care about morals if a Dem is involved.
I care about morals when anyone who sits in judgment of others and tries to use the bible to justify inequality of treatment falls off the morality wagon. If Stanford was there for an assignation of ANY kind, he needs to join the ranks of those like Ensign and Vitter and Gingrich and stop telling us what the bible says about gay people and spend more time worrying about what the bible says about immoral people generally (themselves).

Perhaps you should take the time to really read the posts. I will say this again. I think any politician on either side, democrat or republican should be out if they do not serve the people, if that is due to an affair or special favors that they garner for themselves or their families. If they are not doing what they were entrusted to do then they should be gone. The unltimate in hypocracy is the Kennedy issue. I never said anything about morals. I mentioned Kennedy because I think his actions were certainly ones that should have been address by him being sent packing, not by making him a hero. I also believe that Sanford should be sent packing and never have the chance to be considered any kind of hero in the future. ALL politicians in both parties owe us, the American people. WE deserve better and we should start to demand it.

They deserve each other because both put their self-gratification etc., above their families welfare. What an example to set for your childen! If Sanford believed he could get away with such weird activity etc., he is Obtuse as well as unloyal and irresponsible! The weak Gov., can't stand the heat in the kitchen! Apparently, there are other reasons for his sudden, mysterious disappearing act, risking his career; perhaps because of political pressure? There are how many more straight marriages than gay relationships? Let's agree that the answer is 'lots more'.

All that adultery and divorce among straights is what undermines marriage, not allowing gay people to get married. Period. End of story.

Each one of these hypocrites is another nail in the coffin of the anti-gay marriage movement. I thank Gov. Sanford and Sens. Ensign, Edwards, Vitter, Craig, Speaker Gingrich, Governor Spitzer, for all contributing to the gay marriage movement. Marriage is a joke to these men, and gay marriage will help restore some dignity to the process.

Those of you who are still hung up over gay sex practices need to ask how many straight couples engage in the same practices, and then ask yourselves why you are so afraid of gay people that enforcing their equal protection rights is so offensive to you. Seems to me that you should worry more about your own marriage, and on the impact these public adulterers have on our children, rather than pretending that gay marriage has any impact on you at all.

In my state, the law we will pass next year to undo Prop 8 will assure that no church need marry a gay couple, and that no one need provide a gay couple with marriage services. I hope that after that passes, we pass a law that allows court clerks to refuse to process divorce applications by Catholics.

What has undermined marriage is a leftward cultural shift which places importance on the individual instead of the family, and sets the individual's feelings as the moral barometer instead of religious tradition.

The left was and is responsible for the idiotic and harmful justification for divorce that had those in troubled marriages ask themselves, "If I'M not happy, how can my KIDS be happy?"

This was self-centeredness shabbily made up to look like concern for the children. It is well-documented that children suffered emotional and developmental trauma during divorce and while growing up without both parents.

The "homophobia" you lefties like to imagine we traditional-marriage advocates suffer from has nothing at all to do with why we defend marriage as a union between one man and one woman, but, since you really don't care anything about our values anyway, what's the point of explaining.

You also would rather not be inconvenienced by statistics from non-partisan, reputable sources describing homosexuals' increased rates of suicide, early mortality from AIDS and substance abuse, relationship violence, promiscuity, and so on.

Get educated.
