Jon Stewart is a Liar
Posted by: Mary Katharine Ham at 10:01 AM
This is the problem we're gonna have with the growing number of Americans getting their news from this guy:
Thanks to Jon Stewart and a quick edit on last night's Daily Show, the sufferers of Bush Derangement Syndrome will surely jump on a comment President Bush made yesterday that "Mandela is dead."
Only, Bush didn't say that. He was actually making a point that he and Ambassador Crocker have made several times since the Petraeus/Crocker testimony:

There could be no "instant democracy in Iraq" because "people are still recovering from Saddam Hussein's brutal rule," Bush told reporters.

Referring to former South African president Nelson Mandela, who led the fight against apartheid to become a symbol of reconciliation and hope, Bush said of Iraq: "I heard somebody say, 'Now where's Mandela?'"

"Well, Mandela is dead. Because Saddam Hussein killed all the Mandelas."

Of course, Stewart and the writers at the Daily Show knew this. There's no way they saw the "Mandela is dead" clip without seeing the context. But the facts got in the way of an easy political joke. And, Stewart has the nerve to get all self-righteous on "Crossfire?" Ha.

Oh, and my apologies for not blogging lately. My schedule has just not been allowing for it, and I'm trying to figure out a way to fix that. Back to editing video. You'll have that in a bit.

Liberals are inherently stupid
Its a sad state of affairs when the so called "intellignet" liberals get thier news from a comedy station. While the Daily show and Colbert(?) Report are funny, they are political satire. Too often the liberals take what these two say as gospel.

Is it really that hard to see how dumb liberals sound when trying to argue with "Jon Stewart said on the daily show that..." or "Stephen Colbert said on his report that..." Next thing you know Reno911 will be the absolute moral authority on global warming.

Limbaugh and Hannity, are two people who are still claiming this. You are right about Clinton, Gore and company. I didn't believe them then and come to think of it, the same folks on the radio who love to point this out about them are the same ones who said we couldn't believe them when they were in office. They said it was political in regard to Monica. In short I consider the Clinton administration and the Bush administration the two most dishonest in American history.

I'll agree with you on talk radio and the amnesty. They deserve credit for that after ignoring it for the last 16 years. That I do hold against them, ignoring it for so long. The callers' persistence finally convinced them they had to address it or lose their crediblity. Other than Ken Hamblin, none of the others would even broach the subject. I know I called Boortz a few years back over this and had to deal with a diatribe about how he "wasn't going to kick anyone off the boat." Just think, if they had started raising hell over this years ago we wouldn't be in the mess we are today.

It is not for me to defend Stewart, for I rarely listen to him and I know he has idiots in his audience. Talk radio, I'm afraid, is the same way. We're getting false information from both partisan sides from people who put a political party above that of a country.

" Getting on the radio and claiming that Saddam moved all of his chemical weapons to Syria "

Who did that?
If I remember correctly, when Klinton was in power, Democratic Party stalwarts ranging from Algore, to Ted Kennedy to Dingy Harry Reid to BJ Klinton himself continued to insist that Saddam had plenty of chemical weapons.
They quickly changed their tune after Bush was in power.

"I've see little brains or knowlege shown on talk radio by either the host or the caller, save in few exceptions"

One of the few parts of the media that actually READ and UNDERSTOOD the henious, evil amnesty bill that got killed in the Senate this year, was conservative Talk Radio.
Conservative Talk Radio hosts like Laura Ingram, a very good lawyer, who had clerked for a Supreme Court Justice were able to read the bill, and point out the terrible provisions it contained, to the American people.
Without conservative Talk radio, brain dead vermin like Jon Stewart of the liberal media, were busy throwing sand into the eyes of Americans, with distortions and disinfrmation.
Let's face it, conservatives are vastly smarter and more informed than the stark raving loony left liberals typified by Kos/moveon, who simply spew out hate, aand insanities, while espousing crazy notions that "Bush new about 9/11", and that the "WTC was brought down by explosives planted by the US goverment". Liberalism is a very serious disease indeed.

SteveR,

That's your opinion. My opinion is the exact opposite. Getting on the radio and claiming that Saddam moved all of his chemical weapons to Syria or the absolute stupidity of claiming that there were three ships in the Indian ocean sailing around with them during the runup to the invasion is idiotic, for example.

I've see little brains or knowlege shown on talk radio by either the host or the caller, save in few exceptions. At one time back during the Clinton administration there used to be some intelligent talk. Since Bush's election, talk radio has gone the same way as "Free" Republic has-- downhill.

Most of what I hear today is some mild criticism of Bush over the border and spending while the rest of the time is used to engage in real BDS. That is, the mindless worship of Bush and the leadership principle.

People with real brains don't rely on the radio for all their information anymore than they would on tv.

Since when?
You and who exactly?
When is the last time Jon Stewart actually made anyone with a brain laugh?
The moveon/Kos/loony left vermin don't count.
Jon Stewart is about as funny as the insane Iranian dictator Ahmadinejad.

Conservatives that listen to Talk Radio have a brain. The idiots that watch Jon Srewart are stuck on stupid.

I have to agree with
Ryan & Thundermonkey...having only one source for news & information creates ideologues who will believe anything so long as it 'fits' their model of reality. And both, the extreme right & hard-core left tailor their 'news' for their respective audiences - never letting the facts get in the way of a good story or a good joke.

Stewart is funny (though I think Colbert is much funnier) & Dennis Miller comes across as a very bitter man (though he has his moments)but I think the 1/2 Hr. News Hr. is pretty funny as well.
Problem is too many from both sides have lost their sense of humor altogether. The 'politics of personal destruction' is big business for the career politicians from both sides, not to mention a great way to keep us all distracted - one side watching what the Right hand is doing while the other focuses on the LEFT hand only...and no one is paying attention to the man behind the curtain.
We are ALL being conned! But even getting a consensus about who is responsible for the con-job is impossible in todays political climate. C'est la vie.

But again, the gist of the article was (IMHO) to point out the expanding problem of people who rely on one ideological viewpoint (though Ham ranted only about the Left) for their news...not the Mandela joke or the Daily show specifically!

PS
To jsmith - YOU?? A REAL conservative??!!! Now that's FUNNY!

So?
Jon Stewart lies. So what?

When George W. Bush lies, our soldiers die.

Does Jon Stewart have the ability to send our soldiers to die?

O FOR CRYING OUT LOUD
He was making a joke, not reporting the news. The Daily Show also reported that maybe the country isn't ready for a black president yet that maybe we should ease into by having black Batman first. Jon Stewart frequently makes a penguin squalk when talking about Dick Cheney (because he resembles the Penguin). It's not very difficult to tell the difference between a comedy show and a news program...

... unless you're watching O'Reilly. I have to admit that it was funny when O'Reilly cited the "Paris Business Review" (a ficticious periodical) during a debate. That was funny too. Hannity once claimed that Reagan reduced the tax rate from 90% to 28%.

But Hamm won't call them liars
ganjadude writes: Saturday, September, 22, 2007 12:47 AM
wow this is just sad
Its already scientific proof that those who get their info from colbert and stewart and generally more educated than those who blindly believe the lies on fox news. so this is clear BS, get with the times townhall, and realize that you are on a sinking ship

What a pity you've been too busy to blog recently.

Apology accepted! NOT!!!!

The world has missed your incisive comment. Even when you write about those things of which you appear to know so little, you always seem to hit the nail bang on the tail. It's amazing!

YES! John Stewart IS a liar

And YES! You ARE a genius.

Just hoping you can sort out your schedule as I just can't wait for your video!

Keep up the good work!!

Aww, townhall tries so hard, but...
fails. What a hack article full of meaningless nothing. Jon Stewart's show is loyally watched by well-informed viewers who had already suffered through another semi-retarded brain damaged Bush press conference.

Nice try townhall, but I don't think you have the mental firepower to really go after Jon Stewart. Just focus on your dullard leader Bush and listen to the pretty sounds coming from his drooling mouth.

As a conservative...
I have to admit that Stewart is funnier than Dennis Miller. I don't hate Miller, I just think he's past his prime.

PS. You don't have to be apolitical partisan democratic hack to make fun our president. Around here a lot conservatives think Bush is a joke and pretty much most of the GOP.

TDS viewers are better informed
To Sans Pariel

That "too young/too stupid" audience The Daily Show pulls is far more and better informed about national and international affairs than Fox Noise, which is likely your outlet of choice. Please read on...

SURVEY: Daily Show/Colbert Viewers Most Knowledgable, Fox News Viewers Rank Lowest

A new study by the Pew Research Study shows that viewers of the Daily Show and the Colbert Report have the highest knowledge of national and international affairs, while Fox News viewers rank nearly dead last:
pewtv.GIF

Despite significant technology shifts, however, Pew found that “today’s citizens are about as able to name their leaders, and are about as aware of major news events, as was the public nearly 20 years ago.”

The results about Fox News echo findings of previous surveys. In 2003, University of Maryland researchers studied the public’s belief in three false claims — that Iraq possessed WMD, that Iraq was involved in 9/11, and that there was international support for the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq.

The researchers stated, “The extent of Americans’ misperceptions vary significantly depending on their source of news. Those who receive most of their news from Fox News are more likely than average to have misperceptions.” Fox News viewers were “three times more likely than the next nearest network to hold all three misperceptions.”

The problem isn't with Jon Stewart, or Sally Field, or James Brolin or any of the other distractions you freaks on the right keep using.

The problem is your little President is an utter, complete, unmitigated disaster.

Everything else is mere side show.

People that rely on "The Daily Show" are no different from those people who rely on neocon talk radio for all their information. People like this will never develop critical thinking skills nor be able to use logic and reason.
ThunderMonkey writes: Friday, September, 21, 2007 12:51 PM
Maybe we don't need another Mendela
It's kind of hard to take someone out of context... if they weren't in context to begin with.

Bush bungled the line, and the Daily Show called him on it. Any self-respecting comedian would have done the same thing.

Besides, what was the context... that the reason things are rosey in Iraq is because there isn't an equivalent "Nelson Mendela" to rally the populace? As good as Mendela was for South Africa, he was sponsored by the ANC, who was in cohoots with the Communists at the time. So, what is Bush saying that we need a charismatic leader, who is in league with Al Qaeda to restore peace in Iraq... but I thought everything was going great over there with the surge working and all.

Of course, you alone amongst all of us Americans are endowed with the intellect and sophistication to recognize humor.

The rest of the dumb sheep somehow mistakenly think they're watching CNN despite the visible Comedy Central icon in the corner of the screen and the laughter coming from the studio audience.

As usual ALL the Lib-trolls completely miss the point of the article...
WE (conservatives/high school grads/college educated in something other than a LIBERAL ARTS program types) KNOW FULL WELL that Jon Stewart is a supposed comedian...

BUT the point is that his largely too young / still stupid audience think the bore is telling them the FAX about REALLY WORLD issues...like w.smallmind, their attention span has the lifespan of a firefly's spark though it lacks the wattage.

Court jesters
Seriously, I am beginning to think that people who like politics have absolutely no sense of humor.

The Prez has said plenty of silly things before, and Stewart continues to play on that.

Frankly, we need more court jesters to regularly and shamelessly make the American citizen see exactly what kind of fools we have for leaders.

the biggest bds
were the conservatives when it came to immigration.

the called bush a traitor and much worse than that.

as far as jon stewart.
i saw the news conference and yes, bush bungled the sentence (what a surprise) so it did sound initially that he was announcing mandelas death.

but also keep in mind jon stewart is a comedian and although it is well know many conservatives have no sense of humor, when a person is supposed to be funny, you might want to intrepret their comments as comedy.
