Replacing Kristol
Posted by: Carol Platt Liebau at 12:01 PM
Hugh is right -- many of the names being floated to replace Bill Kristol aren't that conservative, certainly when it comes to social and/or faith issues.

I like the Byron York suggestion, though.

Over at Beliefnet, another name was floated yesterday -- that of my friend and Lincoln Fellow compatriot Josh Trevino.  Smart guy -- RedState founder, former Bush speechwriter, former think tanker, military service, the works.

Would it kill them to have a voice from outside the NY-DC axis? Just sayin'.

matt wrote the post-not hugh. I'll refrain from suggesting these mistakes might imply a larger problem with your work.

Two Names: Krauthammer or Sowell
Adding either of these two fine gentlemen would double the IQ of the entire editorial page.

I read the editorial page of the NYT and I am very confident that the writing level has been going down hill very quickly.

Brooks is not a conservative. He is a moderate with the whisper of a conservative leaning.

Charles Krauthammer and Thomas Sowell would actually add meat to the dry bones of the NYT.

But alas, they don't have the guts to do it. They don't want to to risk having all those liberal minds to ever find out that conservatives have better ideas.

krauthammer
writes for the Washington Post-so liberals are gtting his so called "ideas."

Typical theo-all sizzle and no steak with your tired invective.

Do you understand
that Kristol, Sowell, etc, are opinion columnists, not reporters? Why on earth must EVERY opinion be in a newspaper? The point is making sure the news is reported properly, not whether I get to read some rightie's or leftie's pov. Most of them are nonsensical anyway.

Mr. Compassionate Conervative
How about Marvin Olasky, editor in chief of WORLD Magazine and the person who came up with the original compassionate conservatism philosophy before the Bush administration messed it up?

Good catch Frank
...but I forgive you, Carol:)

Frum
They might as well replace Bill with another neocon to keep Brooks company. Putting Frum in the slot would also maintain the NYT's high standards with the hiring of people who know absolutely nothing, other than the art of smearing folks.

Frum is much a conservative as Kristol is, which is to say none at all.
