Bush's Achievements
Posted by: Carol Platt Liebau at 3:17 PM
When even his vice-president is hailing the impending inauguration of Barack Obama, it's clear that fatigue with the Bush presidency is widespread -- even those serving in it clearly are ready to go.

But it's worth pointing out the multitude of significant achievements of the administration, as Fred Barnes does over at the Weekly Standard.

Indeed, aside from some real policy missteps -- as on the immigration issue -- most of the failures of the Bush administration are more cosmetic than substantive.  As I've argued before, Bush's biggest mistake --- both for him and for conservatives and Republicans generally -- was his decision simply to stop defending himself and his policies.  Barnes points out, rightly, that Bush's presidency may receive the favorable re-evaluation that Harry Truman's has received.

In the meantime, we're stuck with a lefty President and Congress.

PRESIDENT GEORGE W BUSH.
I was watching President Bush yesterday,
and just dont know why the media hates him so much,
President Bush,
has had to face one problem after another,
ever since he walked into the Whitehouse,
and I think he has done a good job,
he has kept our country safe, ever since 9/11,
I like President George W Bush,
and I hope President Elect Obama does a good job,
we want them to do good,
but they DONT, want the same,
is that the difference between Conservatives and Liberals,
just a question.

Like I asked you, name one of Billy jeff's achievements. Or better yet, show what a big girl you are and name the accomplishments of Bush if you can.
Here is what I expect you to write-

Bush's tax breaks were for the Rich,( not true, they were across the board and even people who paid no taxes got a stimulus check)
The accomplishment here is that Bush's tax cuts grew income tax revenues to record levele in 2005.

It's Bush's fault that state and local gov't failed the residents of New Orleans, (all the while Mississippi managed to fend for themselves and they were hit just as hard. No looting there for what they "deserved")
Accomplishement: It was not the President's failures that caused the chaos in New Orleans. Why is nobody screaming about Galveston and saying it was the President's fault?

The economy sucks because Bush did it. (Credit crisis and regs in place were not Bush's fault and as far back as 2005 he said he worried but your boy Frank said no worries) There were even people from the National Community Reinvestment Coalition testifying that there should be more solutions to the practices of the lenders.
Accomplishment: He got us out of a recession handed to him by Billy Jeff and we reaped plenty of benefits. The current crisis is not Bush's fault.
Get over yourself, Lola. The COW Obama is handing you the biggest pile of manure and you are accepting it lock, stock and toilet.

Who defelected? I asked you to name one thing Billy Jeff did and you ranted that Bush squandered a surplus. That is utter bullshitt.

WHY? Because to date Clinton passed the largest tax increase in f-ing history claiming prosperity for all. The surplus was nothing more than what is known as debt shift, not debt reduction. The intent of all the budgets submitted to 1998 was to spend more than was taken in.
The surplus deception obvious in the nat'l debt stats. While they boasted surpluses, the Nat'l Debt was rising. Doens't matter whether you call it significant or not, it went up. This then means that there have been no surpluses since 1960. Now STFU with your ignorant crap. You have no clue about economics and you spewing is evident and you have no facts to back it up. Billy Jeff squandered the Peacetime dividends of the Military which caused the increase in spending for making sure our troops were equipped properly. Who do you blame for ignoring terrorist while getting blowjobs? Bush, I'm guessing.
You wanted to denigrate Bush, and you can. But at least answer what legacy Billy Jeff left for Bush? Clue??? RECESSION.

Neo-con Madness
This doesn't surprise me coming from Fred Barnes, because he's no closer to a conservative than Truman or Johnson, but this is a terrible list. As a conservative, I counted 3 1/2 "achievements" in that list. Medicare Part D is a horrible failure, and the only reason it has cost less than projected is many eligible have opted out because $4 drugs from the private sector has made it irrelevant. No Child Left Behind is a miserable failure that suppresses exceptionalism in schools with little gain in the bottom end.

But what really bothers me is that he claims to be a conservative and he celebrates the concentration of power in the executive branch. This is flat out disgusting. Barry Goldwater is rolling over in his grave.

Cannot see the forest for the trees and never will. Here's a thought. Tell me what, if anything Bill Clinton did during his Presidency that had a lasting effect. I can only think of one single thing. He diminished he welfare roles. He left President Bush's Administration with a recession, and Jamie Gorelick's lack of insight created a lack of shared intel, which potentially led to 9/11. Go ahead, Illinois Monkey Girl, tell me what Bill Clinton did besides lie and abuse his power in the WH.

I wish Bush had spent his entire disastrous presidency clearing brush instead. That is something he may be qualified for.

Taking him at face value he sure as hell doesn't understand the role of the executive branch in a constitution republic, but then again, I don't believe Bush has any use for the Constitution to begin with.

Bush Accomplishments
Lola (or whoever):
I helped your closing statement, of your first post: "That'll do, for a start, on how BDS these last eight years have been." Any wonder why most of the administration are more than ready to retire? And Lola, you've fallen for one of the commonest liberal lines! Giving Bush credit for everything political that happened during his presidency, as if the 535 members of Congress had NO ability to vote on any of his policies. Even a grade school level of understanding, of how our government actually works, COULD have helped you avoid this faux pas.
Salamander: Bush was legally restrained from being involved sooner. (he has to receive a request from the governer) Maybe if the N.O. mayor (D) had MANDATED evacuation, or the governer (D)had activated the Louisiana N.G. sooner, there would have been an entirely different outcome to Katrina. (After all, it was no secret that the entire city of N.O. was BELOW SEA LEVEL and a catagory 4 hurricane was coming!)
I think GWB did an outstanding job as President! He TOTALLY failed in protecting our borders, though, and allowed himself to take the rap for Congress trying to force the Kennedy-McCain treason down our throats! (BTW, 65% of Americans were against it, for the first vote and 85% were against it for the second vote. Why did they waste their time? (and OUR money) Maybe just living truth of how out of touch they've habitually become?)

Mr. Munck tries to obfuscate his posts as ‘Lola,’ a woman he loves to post as, with the absurd reference to the Columnist/comments section of Townhall, as proof that he’s in one State and 'Lola', is in another.

MUNCK SAYS:
"Over in the TH "Columnists" section, comments are tagged with the state that the commenter is posting from, undoubtedly determined from the IP address. Lola C. shows as being in Illinois, and I show (properly) as being in Virginia. "

When we all know that when we register here, we give our town and State for identifier. Mine's California, but I could be in Maryland or Oman. I could have any situs and as many accounts as I want ... as we've noted of you Mr. Munck.

Barnes, Pathetic and Shameless
Fred Barnes has now joined Michael Medved among the worst Republican hacks ever to punch a keyboard.

Barnes' praise of Bush's socialized drug program and federal control of schools are disgusting enough but pretending that the "War on Terror" was anything but a fiasco goes all the way to despicable.

Losing a war against a bunch of deluded psychos who wear funny hats and hide in caves puts Bush among the legendary incompetents of the past like Gen. George Custer.

In his quest to "fight terror" Bush succeeded in establishing two Islamic states ruled by Sharia, something that the terrorists themselves failed to do. Soldiers in Iraq who risk their lives daily are forbidden to have a beer for fear of offending the locals. Bush never fails to accommodate bigotry so long as the bigotry is religiously based.

His Iraq "victory" consists of establishing a Sharia based fascist state wherein the individual is nothing, the state is everything. If you doubt that Bush is a fascist, read the Iraqi Constitution and then read "Liberal Fascism". That should dispel any notions that Bush's ideas of presidential authority and state power aren't essentially fascist.

George "What's a veto?" Bush almost single handedly destroyed the economy with his insane profligate spending, although in his defense it must be said that had he not had vital help from Barney Frank, Chuck Schumer and Hank Paulson he would never have "succeeded" so readily.

Bush was and is the greatest traitor to freedom and free markets in the last 50 years. May his name become a curse.

Thank you so much for the education, Lola. Training as I did in the dark cave of conservatism, I didn't recognize what transference and projection really are. It's sometimes so hard to learn while dragging my knuckles along in the wake of such enlightened intellectuals as yourself.

Sources of statistics
The first para of that article that Lola cites is as follows:

"President Bush recently spent his 879th day at his ranch in Crawford, Texas, since the Supreme Court, in all its great wisdom, elevated him to the presidency. This according to NPR's "Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me," which noted that Bush broke former President Reagan's record for taking vacations from the White House."

So it's an NPR comedy quiz show that we have for the source of your number.

My source:
"On Monday, he heads to his Crawford retreat, where he has spent all or part of 418 days of his presidency, according to Mark Knoller, a CBS News White House correspondent and meticulous record-keeper."

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/mason/5042 364.html

Citing the same article this piece then extrapolates the 419 number out to 499 over the full 8 years.

BUSH clinton
So Lola, tell me...

Those days Clinton spent engaging in cigar tomfoolery; do they count as work days? I suppose you could split them up and count some as pleasure and others as work, depending on whether he was speaking to foreign leaders on the phone at the same time. You might even double count them since he was multitasking: speaking with foreign leaders AND mentoring 20 year old interns in the ways of dirty old men.

And, can you also explain how it makes sense for that former President and his yet-to-be-confirmed incoming Secretary of State wife to have offshore accounts? Have we ever HAD a President who entered the White House with so little wealth and who subsequently enjoyed so much, the source of which is totally beyond scrutiny?

Bush made some mistakes. He also accomplished some great things - primary among them, avoiding another attack like 9/11 and taking our fight to the enemy. Like Carol and others, I think he erred in not going directly to the American people and stating his case more often, but history will tell what he didn't. I am grateful he served.

Bush and Cheney served with more grace and dignity than the Clinton's ever did or will, regardless of what you and your radical, lefty friends think, say or write. Their service reflected the same ill-mannered, foul-mouthed, projection-of-their-own-toxicity approach as do your posts.

Lack of communication
Lack of communication was certainly the biggest downfall of the Bush admin. but Fed Barnes and other apologists leave out another enormously destructive area, the politization of low level government positions. This of course blew back heavily with Brownie and Katrina, but occured at nearly every gov. organization. Putting in terrible people for political reasons lowered people's trust in government to operate effectively and hurt everything from war policy to financial regualtion.

Bush vacation time
Projected at 499 days over 8 years.

If you take one day off a week plus 8 public holiday days a year that comes to 480. That leaves an average of 2.375 days a year off beyond what most people would consider a pretty full schedule.

It's all about how you present the numbers.

Meanwhile the house was in session for 118 days last year...does that mean they had 35 weeks of vacation? 435 lawmakers enacted 278 public laws and recorded 213 votes. Real busy bodies up there. I suppose we should be thankful for the fact that only 5.8% of "new laws" got enacted.

FOLLOWED BY the truck bombing of the US military barracks, the Khobar Towers, in 1995. THEN AGAIN the bombings of the 2 US Embassies in Tanzania and Kenya in 1998. AND OF COURSE the bombing of the USS Cole while docked in Yemen in 2000. ALL HAPPENED ON CLINTON'S WATCH WITH MANY DEATHS IN EACH ATTACK. His response??? Basically nothing except launch million dollar cruise missiles randomly around the Middle East. Results of that???? Next to nothing but he did manage to destroy a confirmed MEDICINE FACTORY in Sudan. The Sudan also, on at least one occassion, had Bin Laden under observation and offerred to "pick him up" for us. What did that weasel Clinton do??? He "took a pass", worried about his world image!!!
And it's GWB's fault that "he didn't listen"????
HOW ABOUT WHY DIDN'T SLICK WILLIE DO A DAMNED THING IN 8 YEARS?????
The blood of all the "Clinton years" attaacks AND the blood of 9/11/2001 is, and always will be, on Clinton's hands!!!!
And now we really have it........
The brain-dead American voting public has voted into the Presidency a bigger appeaser than Clinton, with a spineles "Dim" Congress to boot!!!
Real Scary....

Stop listening to CNN, MSNBC, etc., ad nauseum. And stop reading Kos, HuffPo, etc., ad nauseum. Go to the library and check out some substantive history, and read it. Then GROW UP. Get out of you parent's basement, breath deeply, and listen to some George Strait. Heck I'll even pop for a CD. Just let me know where to send it! :-)

You make this blog hard to take, but I guess that is your goal working for the Obamites.

"the truth seldom catches up to a lie."
You're correct Ms. Liebau, the greatest lost opportunities of G.W. Bush's administration have been the refusal to articulate the reason underlying any given policy.

Fatigue factor? You bet. Serving as Paladin for a nation state over these eight years is beyond the leviathan as task. It is in the realm of heroic.

May the Lord provide Mr. Obama with some of the character and work ethic of George W. Bush
