John McCain Wants You to Comment Here!

John McCain's website is encouraging folks to post comments on conservative and liberal sites. As Jonathan Martin notes,
McCain supporters are asked to send the details of their comment to the campaign, which in turn will verify it and then reward the supporter with "points" (assumedly to accumulate for McCain swag) This is actually something I've long thought smart campaigns should consider. After all, comments can sometimes influence the bloggers -- or even change narratives, themselves. So it stands to reason a campaign would seek to influence the debate not only on the blogs, but in the comments, as well. The idea to award "points" is a smart idea. But it also raises ethical questions: For example, will Townhall be inundated with "trolls," posing as legitimate commenters? What is more, sites like RedState have, in the past, required commenters to disclose if they are working on a campaign. Does this overt effort to influence the narrative and conversations in the blogosphere cross an unspoken line? ... The fact that the McCain campaign is "suggesting" talking points for commenters to use -- might also lead some critics to sugges McCain is attempting to manipulate the public by spreading propoganda. It's one thing to encourage supporters to engage in the discussion -- it's another thing to give them the talking points. Granted, campaigns do this every day. Political campaigns have always "encouraged" supporters to do things like call-in to talk radio shows, etc. These efforts are usually conducted in a clandestine manner, of course -- while this is a very overt effort by the McCain campaign. In this regard, we should probably applaud the campaign for transparency. In short, this is an interesting idea, which raises the question: Is this smart politics that respects the nascent power of the web -- or a cheap attempt to " game" the blogs?

I've posted some pro-McCain -- do I get a free shirt?
I like McCain, but I'm not so sure about this. You can tell the legit from the contrived.
For instance, I usually ignore "Virginia Patriot", "Kimberly", and others on this site -- because it just gets so darn predictable, and a serious waste of time.
So, what good is it if people just skip it anyway?
Most people can tell talking points from truth. I say, keep the comments section clean. |

Pasadena Phil,
What is Bob Barr's position on illegal immigration ? |
|
your comments are SO 5 minutes ago. We cons have moved on to the next big thing: 3rd party for conservatives. We're starting by making sure McCain has no mandate. Between Ron Paul and Bob Barr that shouldn't be too hard.

how the "McCainiacs and RINOs" keep braying to us conservatives why we need to vote "lesser of two evils", they're making their bed of misery and demand that we lay in it as well!
No thanks; illegal alien enabler, RINO, GOB, Rockefeller Repubs. RIP!
I think 40 years of their BS is enough.
Get ready for an Oblamamessiah adm.,...RINOs! |

Why he hasn't heard anything a conservative has said yet? How about this.
Instead of constantly telling how you have so often reached accross the isle to work with Dems, how about reaching across just once and bringing them over to a conservative ideal. Have you ever done that? Ever? |

Go to my blog and send me an e-mail (use a disposal e-mail if you're worried about giving out your e-mail) and I'll e-mail you a PDF file for you to print from. |

I sure ain't givin' him any hard earned dollars! |
|
|
You really should add a gratuity of Bush pesos. I just printed a fresh batch. |
|
...Sen. McCain across the face of his donation reply form IN BIG BOLD LETTERS and then mail it back without a pledge-
THAT DOESN'T WORK SO WELL FOR HIM???!! |
|
is right. I wrote to Kyle about his support of the Shamnesty bill. In my email I copied my online DMV re-registration as an independant.
I explained that if he is that big of a sell out (we all know the real reason why they want illegals here), then I'm out of the party.
He responded with a 3 page form letter he had prepared for the onslaught of complaints that were coming.
Kyle is another corporate sellout. He's good on some issues. Others he's just another polititian. |

"By the way, anyone who suggests that Jon Kyl is not sufficiently conservative can be fairly characterized as being on the far, far right wing of the political spectrum in 2008."
After the November GOP bloodletting, the one-worlders re-introduced the McCain-Kennedy-Bush amnesty bill under another name. Do you remember one of those names? Do you remember that that lying SOS from AZ had campaigned on a GUARANTEE to secure the borders and "no amnesty"? What does that make him?
Maybe you need to go around the block a couple more times before you feel so sure about the GOP deserving your blind loyalty. Yes, THEIR guy is very bad. But so is YOUR guy. I'm voting for neither. |

I'm getting $1,000 from George Soros for this post. |

Pasadena Phil,
I'm a young dude---I'm not even old enough to be eligible to be President. But I'm wise enough to be a realist and see that I must vote for the better (McCain) candidate among the two major party nominees. After all, whether you like it or not, either McCain or Obama will be the next President of the United States, and the consequences of their policies w-i-l-l affect you and your country.
By the way, anyone who suggests that Jon Kyl is not sufficiently conservative can be fairly characterized as being on the far, far right wing of the political spectrum in 2008. :) |

When I post my opinions about McCain I'll be happy to pass them on the McCain campaign. I just need some reasurance that when they award me negative points it won't affect my credit score... |
|
|
Mac supporters get swag for shilling for their guy. We far, far, far right folks get to send our 'gripes' to Peter Wirs at MYGOP.com. Swell. Love the GOP. |
|
|
You are still having a problem differentiating between conservatives and Republicans. Nose-holding can do that to you. |
|
Matt,
The far right wing anti-McCain forces at Townhall are pretty easy to spot;
they believe the differences between Obama & McCain are "too miniscule to debate," they question whether we oppose Obama due to "the black thing," and they assert; -------------- "The only reason McCain is a Republican is because he could never be elected in AZ as a Democrat. Same with Jon Kyl BTW." --------------
Not even Jon Kyl is sufficiently conservative in their eyes. |
|
I guess my list is incomplete. But if you think it's over, I refer you to a very famous speech.

Get over it.
Your guys lost. My guy lost .. now most of us on the Pub side have a new guy, who is indeed way way better than the alternative.
The alternative is a latte-sipping, pretend-intellectual snob and extremist left wing "community organizer" (25 years ago, someone like that would generally have been considered a communist) who wants to give Iraq to Al Qaeda, and have tea with Ajad, and tells us to lose some weight and trade our pickups in for bicycles because "some people in the world" think that's a dandy idea ... and who'll appoint Hillary Clinton as a lifetime position as his first Supreme Court Justice (just to get her out of his hair), and who thinks that we're all just too stupid to notice who his friends (and his WIFE) are.
Oh, and by the way, the alternative will most likely open up the borders in ways you cannot fathom, and grant US citizenship to anybody with a Dem party card, and he will then propose that we all tax ourselves an extra 20% so that we can send every illegal immigrant to college on the public's nickel, and then give him YOUR job, so they don't have to pick lettuce forever.
I mean, seriously, you need to get real, my friend.
There really is such a thing as the lesser of two evils (if that's how you want to put it).
:-)

HAHAHAHAHAHA!
I think the desease you are looking for to describe Virginia Patriot is Tourette syndrome. But Autism would not surprise me either!
|
|
|
Let the "hate" charges begin. |
|
How did I just know that you were going into your usual nonsense about your favorit bogeyman, Juan Hernandez...
"Juan Hernandez wants to boink your seeester!"
Do you suffer from some form of Autism? |
|
"perfection is the enemy of the good"
"I'm voting for the least of two evils"
"If Obama wins, it'll be the end of civilization"
"Those far, far right wing extremists" (formerly known as Reagan Republicans.
"Why are you so filled with hate?"
"You are a xenophobic, absolutist bigot!"
"McCain is electable, your guy can't win."
Once discussions get into issues, we get a litany of the above banalities. Nose-holding cuts off the blood flow to the brain so they need a menu of responses to cut and paste into discussions.
We can handle it. |
|
|
That I am not working for anyone nor am I affiliated with any campaign. I DO, however, have opinions which I generously share. That's just the kind of guy I am, I'm a giver. |
|
JUAN HERNANDEZ TELL US YOUR HEARING IS BAD.
ILLEGAL ALIENS ARE TO IMMIGRANTS AS HOME INVADERS ARE TO HOUSE GUESTS.
HOPE THAT HELPS YOU GET IT. SO FAR YOU HAVE NOT. SECURE THE BORDER. PERIOD.
ENOFRCE THE LAWS.
NO ENFORCEMENT = NO VOTES! |
