Obama promises hope, but can he learn to have faith in our generals, commanders, and soldiers on the ground in Iraq?
By Joel Arends
While serving as an Army infantry platoon leader in Iraq, it was my duty to earn the trust of my men — but also to learn to trust my men. Senator Obama, evidently, has not yet discovered that a commander-in-chief has a similar dual obligation. In a recent Army Times interview, he said he had to “earn the trust of the men and women of the military,” but he has yet to show that he trusts the judgment and first-hand knowledge of the generals, commanders, and soldiers on the ground. If anything, he’s gone out of his way to refute what those in the know say. If he wants his fast-approaching trip to the Middle East to be effective, this will need to change.
Commanders and troops, including our top commander, Gen. David Petraeus, have long been reporting that the surge is working, that we must protect and expand on our fragile-yet-reversible gains, and that Iraq is the central front in the War on Terror. And yet how many times has the junior Senator from Illinois called Iraq a “failed mission” or a “civil war”? He claims Iraq “is or never was” the central War on Terror front.

you just encourage her.
But she is useful nevertheless.
If you need an example why it might be a bad idea to let Barack Obama win this election, read some of Kimbecile's posts. Because those are the supporters who are going to demand President Obama pay up with policy changes they favor. |

"Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki told a German magazine he supported prospective U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's proposal that U.S. troops should leave Iraq within 16 months.
In an interview with Der Spiegel released on Saturday, Maliki said he wanted U.S. troops to withdraw from Iraq as soon as possible."

Thanks for the compliment, I find it kind of fun to challenge Kimberly, when you don't agree with her she will defend herself by attacking you then she moves on to a new thread spewing her liberal ignorance, now I see another one like her ronnie I think it is, be there the same person??? |

You just keep sticking to your liberal agenda no matter how flawed it is, Saddam did have weapons of mast destruction, he used it on kurds which killed thousands of them in the 90's. I had Iraqi's telling me how thankul they were that the americans were there and how much they loved Bush, they were ng in fear from Saddam and his death squads the Fedayeen which would kill and torture around 30,000 Iraqi's a year. So darlin I'm letting you know it is your crediability in question, you jump on every blog giving your lameass liberal opinion on almost every subject. I'm not the one always opening my mouth and sticking my foot into it all the time!!!!! |

I ALWAYS regret bothering to read the comments from the other commenter in this thread. This time was worse than usual.
I know she lives in CT. Do you think we could airlift some aluminum foil there (a la the Berlin airlift) in the hopes that she'll step out of her residence long enough to retrieve a few rolls to line the inside of her residence.
Sorry, I scratched my head about her for a few months, but became completely turned off when she accused Republicans and the right wing of instances involving eugenics. One of the TH folks posted a great excerpt by Jonah Goldberg assessing Margaret Sanger, the founder of the predecessor to Planned Parenthood. The commenters accusations were bizarre, baseless, and unsubstantiated. She's a twit.
By the way, nice comments. |

7/14/2008 3:45:33 PM Going Through Withdrawal - National Review Online
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As someone who monitors the Iraq-war-policy debate closely, I was puzzled to open the New York Times and see an oped authored by Sen. Barack Obama entitled “My Plan for Iraq.” Besides the seemingly moderate tone — and calling for an Afghanistan “surge” (an idea I agree, and one proposed by Sen. Joe Lieberman in March) — not much in the piece is new or newsworthy. In the final analysis, the oped is another dogmatic addendum to Obama’s “withdrawal at any cost” position.
In fact, just one question entered my head when I finished reading: Why now? Why would Sen. Obama — or any legislator, for that matter — write such a piece before visiting the country for himself, seeing the situation with his own eyes, and speaking with commanders and troops who actually know what’s going on?

Great stuff, John. Hard hitting, factual, documented.
What a tangled web Obama is weaving. He's trapping himself with his zigs and zags.
He makes me gag when I consider his lack of leadership experience and out right lack of wisdom when it comes to foreign policies.
Go JOHN! |
