She Winds. She Shoots. She Scores.
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 11:00 PM
Sarah Palin is terrific.

The contest has changed.  Her character and candor have changed it, and John McCain's judgment is vindicated.   The speech overflowed with tough, pointed, true points:

"Some candidates use change to promote their careers.  John McCain has used his career to promote change. "

"The presidency is not supposed to be a journey of personal discovery.."

"There is only one man in this election who has ever really fought for you."

"The special confidence of those who have seen evil and have seen how evil is overcome."

This will be a magnificent campaign, and she a magnificent candidate.

UPDATE:  Former LA Times' MSMer Bill Lobdell:  "I’m guessing Jack Bauer of “24? would vote for Gov. Palin."  Read his whole live blog.

When Ann Richards
...said, "Poor George, he was born with a silver foot in his mouth," it was a funny line. I was voting for George, but I knew it was funny, and scored two points for the price of one. Liberals thought they had died and gone to heaven. Ann was the toast of the town. Now, a Republican woman turns the tables, and with one zinger after another, takes down the self-important press and its favorite candidate. Are they at least impressed? You know, on the technical level? Nope, nada, never. You cannot turn the tables on these folks without inviting their everlasting scorn. As for Ann, whatever she is doing, it was a good night for her. The fact that George beat her for governor, well, so what. She got off a great line, and I really don't care who wrote it.

Arch says.

I used to run to the toilet and puke from both ends every time that Ma Richards spoke. Until she used that line, I never saw the humor in politics. I laughed so hard when GW beat her that I had tears streaming down my cheeks.

Sarah & Cindy: a winning combo
There’s been a lot of talk recently about Gov. Sarah Pailin. However, I think Cindy McCain also deserves our respect and admiration. She’s an intelligent, accomplished and classy lady like Sarah. Cindy also has an inspiring story and a genuine servant’s heart. I was especially impressed when they talked about her adopting their daughter from Bangladesh and her current involvement in charitable works around the world. The McCain/Pailin team doesn’t just talk about “change,” they are the real agents of change that we need. If they win this election, America will be blessed to have both women – along with John McCain - in the White House!

The Tingle
Way to go Sarah!!! Bravo!!!
That tingle running down the collective legs of the liberals is the result of not having enough time to clean out their panties after Sarah Palin's magnificent speech!!!
Liberals and terrorists look out!!! This girl hunts Moose, dresses them down, and eats them for lunch! Armed with integrity and grit she will dress down the liberals and eat THEIR lunch. She's got what it takes and she knows how to use it!
As America grows to love her more than the liberals hate her she will be the FIRST woman Vice President and then the FIRST President of these United States.
In the immortal words of the guy who yelled it out in the Missouri supporters' rally, "You go girl!!!"

I do not disagree with his comments.

And Truthseeker, I have seen several of my normally sane Democratic friends freak out since Sarah Palin appeared. They were mildly amused by my support of John McCain. I did not make a big deal of it and since they assumed Obamamessiah would win, well let's just humor Joe.

Now that it has dawned on them that Obama might actually lose they are starting to really get aggitated. They have litterally gone insane.

You guys (not just you but the collectively whole of Obama's kingdom) can call Palin a liar, bad mother, hypocrite, etc. Whatever. But what I have witnessed this week by the MSM and Obamaphiles in tearing down Sarah Palin is obscene. But fortunately she is Alaska tough.

Truthseeker, I know you and your Dem pals are going to throw your worse at her. I would just request you don't make stuff up and lie. If you have a gotcha moment fair enough, but have enough class to note when Obama messes up or Biden has a senior moment.

Game on.

Sarah Palin is our future!
Sarah Palin is, at last, the future of the Republican Party. She may just save and reshape the cause of feminism. She may just be America's younger but just as steel-forged Maggie Thatcher. The groundswell of support for Sarah Palin among women (with the exception of east coast Elites) shows that there are many of us who have waited for someone like her. We are pro life, professional women with children and we represent small town America. We are the thousands (or millions) who despite being proven female leaders no longer fit in the feminist movement because of our conservative values. We are the women who have balanced babies and leadership and never, ever, ever considered abortion when we learned our children were going to be born with birth defects or genetic diseases. We may get darn angry when our 17 year old daughters have babies, but we aplaud their courage and belief in human life when society (and a Presidential candidate!) tells them just how easy it would be to abort and forget the life they started. We are the women who for too long have had to bite our lips when scolded for not being "real" feminists.
Well, it is time to reshape the American feminist movement, and after last evening, I believe that Sarah Palin is just the person to do it. She has spine, she has bull dog guts, she has humor and perspective, she knows what she can do without being narcisistic (unlike Obama or Biden), and she has the qualities of a terrific national leader and Vice President of America. Thank God! Where do we send our $?
And Hugh, thank you for your coverage and your writing.

My Take
I have been extremely disappointed in the McCain nomination and had determined I could not vote for him no matter who he chose as VP. Having said that, however, I can't tell you how impressed I was with Sarah Palin's performace last night.

She was inspiring, tough, and had a way of drawing blood with a smile. She is terrific, and I am hoping she is as genuine and as good as she portrayed last night.

The worst part for me is when Senator Stick-In-The-Eye showed up at the end to share the stage with her and her family. He should have stayed away.

Man, what could have been if we had nominated someone good - Romney, Thompson, Rudy - practically anyone - and put her on the ticket. How great would that be!!!

Winning
Eventhough RAS has McCain gaining in the swing states. He will be short at least 5 electoral college votes. He has to win one of NM, IA, WI or MN. OR may also be possible.

This assumes that he wins OH, FL, VA, CO and NV.

McCain needs to send Todd Palin to NM. He may be able to swing enough minority votes.

Palin will have to find enough rural votes in one of the above to pull off the victory.

Palin has to become the cheerleader for Rep fund raising as McCain is taking public money. He will not have enough money to counter Obama's ads in late Oct. Obama will buy the election unless the Rep Party has the money to counter him.

The money now has to go to the party as McCain can't take it directly.

What should I "fear" JPK?
I have no dog in this fight. As a true conservative, I'm voting for neither Obama nor Juan Mequeno. Palin obviosuly piques my interest, but the only thing I "fear" is that she's selling out to the GOP mainstream.

Like I said: "we'll see." Maybe one day she WILL be instrumental in pulling the GOP back to the right.

If the media don't get her first.

And no, not "shell-shocked." Just a little amused and appalled, that's all. They don't call it the "silly season" for nothing. But to (loosely) quote George Will, conservatives are supposed to have cool heads in order to make up for not having warm hearts.

As for the Obama compariSON (single, not plural, "comparisons"), I say, if the shoe fits, wear it.
stormie writes: Thursday, September, 04, 2008 11:24 AM
She's "scored" elsewhere, too
Word has it that the Enquirer - the only outlet that got the Edwards story right - has a line on Palin's affair with a colleague. Could it be? Considering her amazing hubris of accepting this bid with the kind of baggage she's got, I won't be surprised. The question is, will the RW STILL vote for them regardless of moral values (the adultery ticket)? Yeah, I'm guessing that "moral values" have never EVER been a part of the Republican Party's M.O. and this election only goes further to prove that point.

And pleeeze spare us the Obama comparisons. Christians have only one God, and unlike Obama supporters, we do not expect our politicians to do miracles.

Do I detect a bit of jealousy and fear in your words? The highlight of the DNC was Bill Clinton's Speech, and not Obamas. And Obama's bounce was very disapppointing - a mere 8 points. Dukakis got an 18 point bounce in 1988.

You GOP acolytes are obviously "wowed" over her speech (and once again this all reminds me of Obama worship here), but now the hard work begins. Juan Mequeno gives his acceptance speech tonight. Not a happy prospect, given how bad he's been looking recently (and last night, when he joined Palin onstage, was no exception).

And, the debates are ahead. As is more scrutiny of Palin.

So stop all this acting like giddy fools. You should be be *hopeful*, but praying. This truimphalism of yours is quite premature. Obama's still ahead in the polls, and a *LOT* can go wrong with the GOP ticket in the days ahead.

Since the vast majority of American's believe in God this can be used by the McCain Camp as an attack by the leftist Atheists on religion.

This will be a major thrust by the press for the next few days. Palin will be positioned as Huckabee in a dress. McCain had better some ads out in the swing states to balance out her image and fast.

media bias
Comments on this post concerning media bias are dead right. Kevin is spot on in noticing the "crowds" that were filmed by the MSM and Fox. McCain and Palin definitely deserve the win in November; they have so much more to offer than Mr. Hope and Change (by the way, loved Rudy's comment last night that Hope isn't a strategy, and Change isn't a destination). I am hoping that the average American can see through the onslaught that the MSM will be dishing against Mc/Palin in both obvious and subtle ways over the next 2 months. Freedom from the press?
If memory serves me, the press used to be the citizen's front line against corrupt, self-important, pocket-lining politicians. We used to be able to trust them to spotlight corruption, sometimes at great personal peril. We could trust that they would shine that spotlight into the dark lit, smoke-filled rooms where special interests and back door deals were made. The founding fathers thought their role so great to this nation's health that they made sure to give them special protection in our Constitution.

It would now seem that they have forfeited this responsibility on a national scale. In their efforts to deliberately ignore and hide Obama's relationships with terrorists, corrupt politicians, criminals, financial incompetence with donated money and in refusing to vet his lack of experience for the Presidency they are now complicit in any future scandal involving this man and the damage to this nation that will result.

At the same time, they have undertaken a mission not to vet Sarah Palin, but to destroy her. If Obama had been subect to same level of scrutiny and propaganda they have heaped upon Palin, it is doubtful he would have survived the primary and, he might not even get reelected to the Senate.

Experience and issues are absolutely essential to make an informed decision about who gets to sit in the Big Chair. However, honesty, integrity and character are equally as important. If Obama is comfortable rubbing elbows with some of the sleaziest deal-making elements of politics, how am I to trust him?

And if the press is comfortable turning their spotlight away from those aspects of his character and honesty, how am I to trust them?

teleprompter?
That is what we saw last night.
Her teleprompter malfunctioned halfway through the speech.
Compare that to Obama when his breaks: If his script stops, he stops.
The question now, is how are the dhimmies going to dodge the debates completely?
There is no way Biden can stand up to this, and we already now Obama without teleprompter = melt down.
Anyone who thinks this speech did not go beyond the party faithful is engaging in wishful thinking.
The wheels of Obama's ego-driven campaign are going to come off. Big time.

A Star Is Born
I love this woman, it was a brilliant move by McCain both politically, and let's face it, pandering to the 18 million voters Obama chose to turn his back.

I didn't need to hear the speech to know she was perfect, but after hearing the speech last night, I was overjoyed.

We've had to endure and swallow Obama's so-called unique qualities for almost 2 years and even some liberals must be tired of the same old TV dinner every night.

Now, as Fred said, she is a breath of fresh air. She's the new focus, she's the new inspiration, and she is REAL.

As far as the naysayers and libs who cry about her sarcasm...Run to your Bill Maher for kind words of comfort.

As far as "she didn't tell us how she plans to do all these things she promises." Then you weren't really listening to her speech. But don't worry, we now have a couple months to hear it all if you can't catch the bleeding obvious.

Biased Camera Work
So last night I was watching Serena vs Venus and flipping back and forth to the Repub Conv….. I just popped over to ABC because its just a push of the number 2 button. So I am watching Rudi speak for about 5 mins and I notice... There are NO Minorities appearing the crowd scenes. Then I noticed that they are using the same 5 camera angles… of the white family members for Rudi and McCain, the Texas delegation in cowboy hats and the same two older white men in the crowd. The cameras never varied except for very distant crowd scenes where individuals can not be picked out. Hmmmm.. so I flip to Fox…. Multiple shots form cameras that are not fixed on the same areas along with mid range shots that allow you to see 20-40 or people at once…. Lo and Behold…. On Fox you see Blacks, Latinos, Hawaiians, Asians and other non-white types.

Wow, what blatant bigoted manipulation of the media…. So I checked NBC and CBS next…. All shots of Whites Only…. Its like they are living back in the Jim Crow days and want nothing to do with colored people. Their shots were all close-ups of various white people and repeated views of the same small groups of white people. At one point on CBS there was crowd shot from the rear and in the bottom right corner there was a Black man with a shaved head…. Within a couple of seconds that camera was zoomed forward so the Black man was removed from the frame. Then the view hung there for about 10 seconds.

All this while we know there were Blacks of notable fame near the front of the stage like, Lynn Swan. Lynn was included in the shots of people like Newt or Lieberman in the crowd…. Of course now of the other media rarely show any notable republicans if at all.

Well delivered speech
Lots of gurning which was a bit weird, but all in all she did well. A speech for the party faithful, not for independents, so I don't think she's going to win anyone over who wasn't already going to vote McCain come what may. That said, she should stop mentioning how she was aainst the bridge to nowhere, because it's well documented that she wasn't... anyway, she did well. But it's McCain's turn tonight, and he's one of the worst public speakers ever to lead a major political party. She'll make him look even worse...

And I must share this small but important sign of Palin having the 'right stuff':
Many know that she was the point guard on her championship winning high school basketball team and where she got her Sarah Barracuda nickname.

What many do not know is that in the closing seconds of the championship game she made the game-winning shot... with a stress fractured ankle...but then, what would you expect from a "pit bull with lipstick" :-)

is the commentary after the speech that asked how she would do off prompter.

Have they not been listening to "The One" speak when he is off prompter. Um, uh, mmmmmm, uh, ummmm, I um, ah, think she, will uhhhhhh, ah do ummmmm, do ahhhh, a, I mean will, be able to uh, ummmmm, outshine, I mean, uh, outperform BHO without the, uh prompter because she, uhhhhhhh, actually has, um, core beliefs and she, ahhhhhhhh, won't have to um, worry about what she um, what she said in a previous off prompter scenario.

He only sounds good with the speeches written by his speechwriters and when he has a prompter reminding him what he believes during that speech. When you actually have core beliefs you can answer questions directly like McCain and Palin without sounding like you have a mouth full of peanutbutter.

Palin pick makes Mac look brillant
The argument we are getting from Team McCain is that Mac felt like he really needed a "game changer". Well, for now, he has got it. Gov. Palin was strong.

However, the pit bull tonight was actually Mitt Romney. He was really exercised (almost shouting at times). But, somewhat effective as an attack dog -- but not with much humor (more could be said).

Giuliani was also very effective as an attacker, but in a more ornery sort of way --almost whimsical at a times.

Michael Steele and Mike Huckabee had the best balanced presentations ---mixing well: humor, seriousness, pro McCain and anti_Obama.

Linda Lingle's defense of Gov. Palin was fairly vigorous.

(And, how 'bout Michael Williams? Has that guy got a future, or what?)

I think Sarah's attacks were restrained for the most part -- only occasionally belittling Obama. And, other than that, her speech served its purpose of presenting her as a person of political skill and personal charm.

Mary Palin Rocks Big Time
She gave a fantastic speech that on the one hand was moving and on the other hand kicked butt. And I'm delighted for what she brings to the McCain-Palin ticket. But even more I'm just delighted by the picture she presents of someone who is utterly unafraid of cultural elitists who disdain those who "cling to God and guns", as Obama contemptuously puts it. The picture I get is that Mary Palin is simply not willing to be defined by the MSM and the "politically correct" elites. Instead we see a new, conservative, genuine feminism: honest, assertive, confident. The order of the speech says it all for me: she starts with her family, and unabashedly speaks of the special love borne by parents of special needs children; then she delivers a speech that unabashedly takes numbers, kicks @ss, and outlines what really matters to real-life families; and at the end, the family comes onto the stage and Mary Palin is seen carrying Trig in her arms. Mary Palin, you rock: keep up the great work!

And, speaking of experience, did anyone notice how, though the Democrats have been decrying Palin's two years of gubernatorial experience as insignificant, Barack not only claimed he was more qualified because of running his campaign, but he also cited the time frame as "the past two years." I think Palin will be hitting hard, but in a different way. If people trust her, they will believe them when she says Obama is not ready. This to me is a key to the attack side.

Rudy and Romney can attack normally. But Palin will attack more softly...she can't look angry or seem bitter.

Also, notice Rudy used the words "Obama" and "McCain" and not "Senator". This is a way to personalize this campaign and strip away a term that equalizes these two men. You are not voting for two senators, but two men as President.

With sullen faces.....
The media faces (ABC, NBC, CBC, et all) were like the Russian Hockey team in 1980. Blank, aghast, penguin-stares.

When they picked up their testies (or ovaries) off the floor, managed to get their brains rebooted, I heared a muttering "nice-speech", "where's the beef", and other such comments.

They weren't salivating anymore.

However, they'll be no rest for the wicked....I'm sure the media will try to dig up the sludge.

As to the story about the "affair" (National Enquirer), don't you find it funny when they ignored Edwards's love-child story, but Palin is now "OOOOO, lets get into THAT RUMOR."

Hey, to quote a Clinton supporter...."it's all about sex". Since when does it matter to Democrats.

Nothin' like a real woman
Since so much has been said in the liberal media in regards to gender specific issues with Sarah, let's hit the matter head on.

There is nothing like a real woman to put a fake man in his place. Calling on real experience, tangible facts, a sly smirk of confidence, and the backbone that comes only with actual accomplishments to stand on, Sarah single handidly took down Obama. Game over baby.

She's the gal that every man wanted but only the strong one got. She's every girl's dream, and every fake feminist's nightmare. She refreshes with confidence based in reality while the other side tries to control with perception.

Real men didn't used to eat Quiche. Real women like Sarah Palin don't play victim to the liberal media and biased press. They come out swinging hard and fight the battle where it counts... in and on the issues!

She's SUBSTANCE AND STYLE. She's a Game changer. She killed it tonight.

John McCain didn't just pick the first woman Vice President. He picked America's future. Watch out everyone... Sarah Palin, and all the is good and great about the women in this country, is in the house!

As a center-to-right republican, I didn't like the speech at all (or Guiliani's speech). It played well to the building, but I think to middle-of-the-roaders it will seem angry, sarcastic and mocking.

I think most non-partisans don't like viciousness, and this speech seemed vicious towards Obama.

Loved Governor Palin's speech...no doubt she'll handle being the Vice President like she has everything thus far with ease, dignity, integrity, humility, grace, intelligence, and humor. I would be perfectly willing to concede that Palin scored a home run -- to the choir. She was off-pitch and her long scolding was too PTA and not offering much in the way of her "reforms." America will not "fall in love" with her after tonight. The GOP was pre-disposed to huzzah her no matter what, but not even Hugh could whip up his typical hyperbole. Now watch the "liberal MSM" bend over to praise her mundane speech. A historic night for the GOP tho, congrats.

briggsy, your concern....
is an odd one.

You say:

"I am concerned about Senator McCain.

If he were to pass before the presidential election, Sarah Palin would be put forward as the head of the ticket and would be elected president."

Right, and she would have more executive experience than the empty suited dolt on the other side. She has been responsible for more money, more people, and has negotiated on a far bigger stage than that shady "community organizer", that king of the "present" vote ever has.

In short, she has made decisions more momentous than which tie to wear to a speech.

Our VP candidate is at this very moment more qualified than the flapping empty suit inhabiting your one spot.

Years ago Jim Croce told a tale of what can happen when you "mess with some one strange to you".

I think the lesson today is that when someone:

- has an 80% approval rating
- states the difference between herself and a pit-bull is lip stick
- and goes by the nickname "barracuda"

maybe one should think twice about starting a fight.

And I briefly changed channels to listen to teh follow up from Chris matthews and Keith Uberidiot.

They were visibly flummoxed by what they had just heard. Matthews was repeating himself over and over in astonishment----he broke his trance by offering up some types of analysis. All he could come up with was an analogy to the Hollywood movie "Norma Rae"; to him, Palin is the Norma Rae of politics.
Uberidiot could do little better and provided his own narrative of Hollywood movie likenesses---some movie starring a strong woman played by Reese Witherspoon.

Palin is doing a masterful job of doing what the Republican Party called on her to do: retain the conservatives who have not yet been offended out of the Party by McCain. It's a big task to put onto a novice's shoulders, but desperate times call for desperate measures. If anyone can drag McCain's sorry carcase across the finish line in November, Palins's the one.
