Salon reports ...
A powerful group of conservative Christian leaders decided Saturday at a private meeting in Salt Lake City to consider supporting a third-party candidate for president if a pro-choice nominee like Rudy Giuliani wins the Republican nomination.
The meeting of about 50 leaders, including Focus on the Family's James Dobson, the Family Research Council's Tony Perkins and former presidential candidate Gary Bauer, who called in by phone, took place at the Grand America Hotel during a gathering of the Council for National Policy, a powerful shadow group of mostly religious conservatives. James Clymer, the chairman of the U.S. Constitution Party, was also present at the meeting, according to a person familiar with the proceedings ...
Jonathan Martin has more, including a quote from Paul Weyrich:
"There is a great deal of anxiety that some in the Christian community have put security and the fight against Islamo-fascism ahead of the pro-life movement."
Stay tuned ...
Update: 8:57 - A veteran social conservative strategist tells me: "This is a huge step ... of ending the Rudy myth that he is more electable in the general. He is less electable because he guarantees a Ralph Nader 2000 like election result."
Update: 9:41 - Powerline downplays the importance of this meeting.

That would guarantee the pro-choice Democratic nominee gets elected. At least with Rudy there is a chance he would nominate pro-life judges. |

Would someone explain to me why people like Dobson who claims to be a Christian would actually judge another person's personal beliefs for political reasons ?
My Question to Mr Dobson and other so called Christians...Who are you to judge anyone other than yourselves in personal matters?
God gave me..(obviously not you) free will to choose whether people want to be Christians. You cannot force personal beliefs as a political movement.Period.
I am a Christian who believes that Jesus died for all..not just those who choose him. He loves them anyway...But I guess Mr Dobson refuses to adhere to the instructions of the Saviour who he claims to follow.
In the last days...The church leaders will be judged first whether they are good or evil. |

RAS and ARG have new polls out in SC. Romney has made a big move in the RAS poll but he leads in the ARG poll. The editors of RealClearPolitics can laugh and call ARG an outlier but ARG has not been a Romney friendly poll. It has been a poll that is very sensitive to movement. It shows a big move to Romney from Fred and somewhat from Rudy.
Romney now leads in SC at least in one poll. The revolt against Rudy is not just against Rudy. Fred is losing traction. |

...the above Christian leaders to leave the Republican party and start the Pro-Life political party. Since these so-called religious leaders feel that the Republican party is too main-stream, then they should start a pro-life party, running their type of candidates. They have officially turned into the move-on, kos groups of the right. To them, it's their way or the highway. That's fine. It would give Americans even more political choices during elections.

were he running for the Democratic nomination. He is a virtual clone of Hillary and he fares well in head to head match ups because they are both trying to appeal to the same demographic. It all falls apart once you take into account that 33% of all registered voters who describe themselves as conservative (you know, the "bigots" Bush kicked out of the party). There is nothing conservative about "open borders" Rudy. With only 58% of voters registered as Dems or Reps, that leaves the conservatives plenty of material to build another viable alternative (Duncan Hunter?) with all those independents out there. Both parties are losing registrations as we near February. Nine months will seem like an eternity as both parties are left to putting lipstick on those two pigs. Look for a stampede for president where there could be 2-3 independent candidates wreaking havoc on the "major" but unpopular candidates. That's what happens when political parties abandon their roots. |

Paul Weyrich sounds like he's the type of guy who tries to save his stamp collection when his house is on fire.
Weyrich was quoted as saying; ---------------- "There is a great deal of anxiety that some in the Christian community have put security and the fight against Islamo-fascism ahead of the pro-life movement." ----------------
Actually, there is a great deal of anxiety that some in the Christian community ARE NOT putting security and the fight against Islamo-fascism ahead of the pro-life movement.
And I can use a little irony to take that a step further...the fight against Islamo-fascism IS A PRO-LIFE MOVEMENT---after all, we're trying to protect the lives of 5 billion 'infidels.'
But since some of the hardline Christian activists place abortion, divorce, and same-sex marriage ahead of the fight against Islamo-fascism, maybe they can forge a successful alliance with The Pat Buchanan anti-Israel activists, Ron Paul's Brigade of 18th Century Sleeping Rip Van Winkles, and The Deer Hunters Political Action Committee----to stop Rudy Giuliani from fighting Islamo-facism !
Not all the clueless people are on 'the left.' |

Pro-Rudy Evangelical conservatives are selling their principles for a mess of political pottage: "Well, Rudy's far from perfect, but he's BETTER than Hillary ... AND he'll fight Islamo-Fascism ... [sigh]"
Ron Paul is adamantly pro-life. He also opposes big feddle gummint!
But ohhhh NO! He opposes the GWOT! Oh, and didn't you know? He also opposes amending the Constitution to define marriage as one man-one woman! Can't touch him with a ten-foot pole!
Most of my fellow conservatives TALK about small government and local control, but they really want NATIONAL control in the areas of abortion and same-sex marriage. Well, it doesn't work that way, folks. That's not how this republic was designed.
Kudos to Dobson et al. Their instincts are right. But their own slavish devotion to an all-powerful feddle gummint blinds them from tseeing the solution that's sitting right in front of them:
Rep. Ron Paul for president in 2008! (Because regime change begins at hoome!) |

some people are actually waking up to the fact that the Rudy McRomney Fred are liberal actors pretending to be conservative. Hey GOP, give us a "real" anti-war conservative candidate and the conservative values will prevail! |

As neocons lose some of their "Fear Tactics" to paleocons that still think "Principles Trump GOP Worship"!.......Every citizen has the RIGHT to make character and social issues a determining factor in their choice for POTUS.(EVEN MINISTERS)Only a NEOCON would throw any benchmark out the window, other than the war on terror.(Yet Human Events survey showed IMMIGRATION came in as a priority issue over the war). And I have no idea why naive neocons still think Rudy will appoint good Supremes, when ALL of his lower court appointments in NY came from the liberal side of the Democratic Party!(Actually I do because the "7th Herzliya Conference" 1/07 in Israel clearly shows the speakers list and who Rudy/McCain/Romney/John Edwards/ and Gingrich intend to represent other than U.S. Citizens!)....GOOGLE AND LEARN! |
