This just in....
The Dems have introduced legislation which would ban pencils in the United States. Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid said, "We thought we had eliminated all means of self-defense available to the American people. Obviously this one slipped throught the cracks and we're taking steps now to close that loophole."
Nancy Pelosi said, "This is a great day...!"

Seriously, it does also pay to pay attention to one's surroundings. The story noted that the 14-year-old remembered the van the perps were driving was cruising the area a few days prior looking for easy marks.

Dead on. Everyone should be familiar of their surrounding at all times. Know what looks normal and what doesn't. This one thing and some quick thinking is what saved this brave young lady. In a pinch anything can be a weapon. I may start moving about a sharpened pencil. Too bad the lead isn't really lead...
