Blindsided

In the half-hour before Romney's speech, his supporters were gearing at their booth area for their big moment as Romney was slated to speak at 12:30pm. They grabbed foam "mitts", noisemakers and signs and marched down to the ballroom where they expected Mitt Romney to give a "fight to the convention" speech. Because security was so tight due to the Vice President's speech this morning, most headed into ballroom early and listened to Laura Ingraham's strong defense of conservative values in the face of a McCain nomination and introduction of Romney. They had no idea what they were really going to hear.
Blindsided.

what a horrible way to treat folks. |

The Stupid Party
The RNC wants an amnesty candidate.
Don't vote for one.
Another amnesty will result in Democrat majorities for decades, or until they are supplanted by the La Raza Party, why doesn't the RNC know that? How stupid do you have to be to import voters for the opposition at the same time you alienate your own voters? Nominating any of the amnesty supporters is a losing proposition, we will not support them. If the GOP intends to surrender our sovereignty and abandon the rule of law, they will find in November 2008, that they still have their big money/cheap labor donors, but they do not have voters. The 11:47 (Central) entry on my semi-live thread (cable fritzed out as Romney went on his economic speech) - "'What a welcome' as he gets cheered. Guess the crowd didn’t get the memo."
I'll bet the crowd feels a bit like I did when the national press(titutes) blindsided those of us at a Wisconsin Bush 2000 rally the night the DWI horse manure came out. I had a Walkman with me, and I was right behind the media area, and nobody locally had a clue. I felt the mood really shift when the national press showed up; I knew something was up, but I didn't know what. |

No kidding? So why did he changed his position again...for purely political reasons. What a shock!! |

Face it Republican faithful, 2008 is going to be the Democrat's year. As they say, sometimes it takes a Carter to get a Reagan.
The Republican Party has been "slouching towards Gomorrah" ever since we elected a moderate populist in Bush to be our standard-bearer. We have lost out way and forgot what it is to be Conservative with a backbone.
The Democrat Base isn't just hungry, they are famished. In Primary after Primary, their turnout was double ours. 2008 is setting up to be a massacre and better to have John McCain as the sacrificial lamb.
WHAT MITT ACHIEVES BY LEAVING EARLY: 1. He appears quite statesmanlike. 2. He appears to be taking one for the good of the party. 3. He gets all kinds of party goodwill. 4. He establishes himself as THE front-runner for 2012. 5. He steps aside so McCain can take the Democrat Electoral Landskide right in the chops. 6. If he is smart, he will run for head of the RNC so he can be highly visible over the next 4 years and become the Hero of the Party.
I'm bummed and I will NEVER vote for John McCain, but in the long run this is better. |

He wants to unite the party to protect this nation from an anti-war candidate/president. He was responding to the fact that we are a nation at war and need to be united as a GOP immediately to forestall the election of either Obama (who inspires) and Hillary (who conspires).
Given his status as a suspended campaign, he can still leverage support within the GOP to keep McCain 's feet to the fire re conservative principles.
Mitt took the high road today. Thank you, Mitt and Ann. As he said, he hates to lose, but the risks of not uniting as a GOP are too great since we are a nation at war.
We need more leaders to act out of principle rather than out of pride or power hunger. GO MITT! We appreciate your honor and patriotism. See you in 4 years! |

Until you pony up 35 mil and a year of your life for the opportunity to have the MSM, the dems, other candidates and ignorant masses slander you and your family's good name, maybe you should just respect Romney for being willing to running. |
|
... OVER 1 hour in advance, thanks to Drudge and FOX, how can these people claim it was a surprise? None of them had cell phones or access to the web? There was no buzz? If you believe that, I've got a bridge with your name on it.
Not surprised to see the Romney bashing on Townhall continues LONG after the McCain and Huck supporters have won the battle.
Take a lesson from Mitt Romney and show a little CLASS.
The ONLY thing WORSE than a sore loser is a sore winner. |

Sean,
I respect what Mitt has done. He has every right to run for the president. However, it shouldn't take 35 mil to run. Ask Mike Huckabee how much money he spent. Throwing money at a problem will never yeild positive results. You must connect with voters and not be perceived as a flip-flopper.
Don't blame the media, you had all of talk radio behind Mitt and they were all just about against McCain and Huckabee. So please...lets be honest with that. |

Huckabee is mathematically eliminated, yet stays in the race. What a class act. I guess we could expect nothing less from a religious bigot that eats squirrel. |
