Suffering for Faith
Posted by:
Carol Platt Liebau
at
5:11 PM
Tomorrow, when Barack Obama and John McCain head to Saddleback Church in an effort to woo evangelical voters, I'm willing to bet that Barack Obama may talk a better game. He's a person from whom oratory seems to flow easily (and he'll sound great if his listeners can overlook his
very pro-abortion record
, as well as his
shifting stands on the Defense of Marriage Act
).
But it would be interesting if someone actually asked the candidates: Have you ever suffered for your faith -- personally -- and if so, how? The answers would be instructive, and no doubt revealing.
A piece in today's Chicago Tribune notes that
John McCain risked punishment as a POW in order to worship with his fellow prisoners
. I've
written before
about the necessity of others discussing John McCain's background, given his reticence about doing so himself. This is a perfect example. Who knew?
Does all of this make John McCain a
better
person than Barack Obama? Not necessarily; after all, Barack's experiences have been very dissimilar from Senator McCain's, so it's impossible to know how he'd react in the same situation.
But in a sense, that's part of the point, too. Whatever he says -- or doesn't say -- when he's standing in the Saddleback pulpit, we
know
how important faith is to McCain because we've seen what he's willing to suffer for it.

Defeatocons starting to sweat
The Defeatocons absolutely want the GOP and McCain to lose, but that means Obama winning and Obama is starting to stumble.
Where is Hillary to save the Defeatocons from Victory?
McCain may be starting to become the candidate of change on ANWR:

A flip flop most of us would welcome.
As for the Defeatocons bug-a-boo (other than immigration) Cap and Trade--I doubt McCain is going to adopt any policy which drives up the prices of gasoline $2 a gallon. Sorry guys, it isn't going to happen.

McCain is hardly perfect but
he is a better man than most. And has accomplished far more than Barack Obama. Sorry if I am not going to get preached to by a parishioner of Jeremiah Wright. McCain stood for his faith when he was beaten and tortured for doing so.

I admit that the thought of a tiny helpless baby left to die in dirty utility closed does make me a tad emotional.
Sorry, Obama is evil.
Besides, even most pro-aborts wouldn't agree with Barry on that one.

The better person
One of the things that makes John McCain a better person than Barack Obama is that McCain doesn't think it's a-okay to allow babies who survives abortion left alone to die in a closet.
Yep, that pretty much covers it.
Oh, and in case that isn't clear enough, it necessarily makes Obama an evil person, no doubt about it. Who cares that he goes to Saddleback and favors everyone with his marvelous oratory?
