When a Kitty Cat Flies . . .
Posted by: Carol Platt Liebau at 11:48 AM
There's a lot of discussion about the apparent imbalance in press coverage of Barack Obama and John McCain, what with the networks knocking each other over to accompany Barack to Iraq and Afghanistan.

The complaints are, of course, legitimate when one looks at the facts.

But there's another consideration.  It's not news when an eagle flies -- that's what eagles do.  So where's the "news" in a candidate like McCain, who's serious about protecting the country and knowledgeable about military affairs, visiting Iraq for the eighth or ninth time?

But just as it's not news when an eagle flies, it is news when a kitty cat does.  This is Barack's first trip to Afghanistan -- and only his second to Iraq, where he spent a grand total of two days in January of 2006.  His inexperience with foreign affairs is striking, and his much-vaunted "judgment" about the Iraq surge is looking more flawed by the day.  It will be interesting to see whether he has the courage to "revise" his opinions when his pre-prepared "plans" for Afghanistan and Iraq collide with facts.

No doubt the nets are going to do everything they can to make him look good in his foreign policy positioning.  But it's also worth noting that any gaffe will be commensurately huger, if one happens.

About these Iraq dog and pony shows
I'm continually amazed that a politician can go to Iraq, hang out in the Green Zone for a couple of days, can come back and say that they understand Iraq better than anyone else. This is some really laughable stuff. Those political trips are just that, political. These "trips" to Iraq do not an informed politician make. The only reason McCain goes there is to engage in propaganda by trying to convince Americans that everything's safe, and the markets are thriving while he's surrounded by 100 troops who he wants to keep in Iraq for 100 more years.

Clueless...
...Kimberly, like most lefty neo kommies, reminds me of Alicia Silverstone's character in "Clueless". Anything of a serious nature was lumped into her her teen valley-girl world, AS IF. Perhaps the character Sandy (played by a very young Sarah Jessica Parker) in "L.A. Story" is more appropriate. Sandy had a "fifth sense" about things.

Clueless lefties are blindly, adoringly following their "God Dam* America" Idol, B. Hussein like the rats and the children who followed the pied piper. Whatever blunders the Prophet B. Hussein (Muslim analogy here) makes in Iraq will get zero coverage in the MSM here. Whatever coverage it does get, it will be ignored or impugned as somehow being part of the RW attack machine. Wish we RWers had one of those.
