A New Hillary Narrative?

Obviously, Hillary Clinton is up in the polls in a major way. Still, I can't help but think the driver's license thing (which she called a "gotcha" question) may have hurt her last night. As John Edwards (and to a lesser extent, Barack Obama) pointed out, she literally was on both sides of the same issue in a two-minute span.
And while the number of people who watched last night's debate was probably minuscule, the real problem for her comes when this is shown on YouTube and in today's media cycle.
Simply put, it's in the media's best interest to keep this race interesting -- and that means knocking Hillary down a peg.
Was last night the beginning of a new narrative about Hillary?
Update - 11:21: Rudy talks to Glen Beck about the driver's license question.
Update - 11:27: The RNC is hoping to drive the narrative that Hillary has a "Strategy of Avoiding Direct Answers to Questions."
Update - 11:44: Marc Ambinder has video up of Clinton Chief Strategist Mark Penn talking about the driver's license question.

This is the same party that nominated John Kerry.
Substance? Consistency?
The Demos always want it both ways because they need to hide who they are. Hillary wants illegals to have driver's licenses. She wants them to have citizenship.
I liked how she blames the lack of immigration reform on Bush. He was on her side on the issue, so should she blame herself? Or is she just depending on the publik stupidity? |

Rudy made a similar gaffe yesterday defending sanctuary cities and employers who hire illegals and I have yet to see anyone here reporting here. Are you guys behind Mitt Romney or not? That was a damning mistake for Rudy but you guys keep sticking to the "two-man" race narrative. Here's a chance to make it a "one-man" race! The truth is that there not a micrometer of difference between these two except that Hillary was the victim of marital infidelities, Rudy was the perpetrator. |

Did Obama do what he needed to do? Or did Edwards make enough noise to start considering him as the anti-Hillary? Were Hillary's missteps enough? Read more reactions (with a Halloween theme!) and discuss this at http://www.thecoin.org |

To answer the question - Was last night the beginning of a new narrative about Hillary? The answer is yes.
Nobody watches these debates. But today everyone is reading that Hillary Clinton did not give a straight answer to the question of whether or not illegal aliens should be able to obtain a driver license as Governor Spitzer supports. Most people, including Democrats in New York are opposed to the plan. Her opponents are going to attack her for her lack of a straight answer. |
|
|
I don't think the image of a gang attack on Hillary by Dems being picked up and exploited by the Republicans is going to hurt Hillary with Democratic voters. The 1984 ad was supposed to destroy her campaign too. |

Doesn't work. It better not be Giuliani stating that he would ban licenses for illegals because he said yesterday that he will defend sanctuary cities and employers who hire illegals. I've linked to that report on my blog. |

If you are looking for an example of our country's elite and its imperviousness to public opinion (i.e. democracy), you will not find a better one than Hill's answer here. For Hill, the immigration issue should be addressed from the point of view of a governor, Spitzer in this case, and his problems managing illegal immigrants. Illegals should be given drivers license. Take that you voters. It makes management of the State of New York easier. Sovereignty of the United States be damned. Needs of American workers and unemployed be damned. Rule of law be damned. Unions be damned. Heritage of Democratic Party be damned. Public opinion be damned. Who else can be damned? |

Same as GWB, make them legal. He has no more intention of enforcing the laws as W. does. He is the designated hitter for the cheap labor express. |
|
And she wants to be the leader of the free world. I've never heard a dumbocrat answer a direct question, unless it's about leaving Iraq, George Bush or raising taxes. What a pathetic group of Presidential wannabes...
This may be the beginning of the Dims realization that Hillary can't win the general election. I think that they're "sticking their toes in the water" to see if Hillary lost momentum after last night. Her answer about illegal drivers licenses was her "Howard Dean" moment. She would have been much better off with a yes or no. Any of the Republican candidates would have answered yes or no.
Their big problem now is that the rest of the lame group has even less of a chance to defeat the Republican candidate. I just wish that it wasn't a year until the election so she wouldn't have so much time to recover. In any event, the Republican candidate will destroy her. She won't be able to duck questions and hide her socialist agenda when the one-on-one debates start. I'm looking forward to it. |

Hillary: "I don't no wise feeeel tahrd...." |
|
Simple. Someone has to have the kids to shore up social security. And since the huge tax burden requires two earner to pay the bills, Americans don't have the time or resources to have children. Get rid of the entitlements and the illegals will go home. Only "he who shall not be named" has the guts to suggest the elimination of the IRS and the option to get out of social security. And yet this man is ridiculed for having the only sane platform.
Hillary, Rudy and the rest offer nothing but double-speak and sound bites. Our "public schools" have done such a terrific job dumbing down the nation, people actually fall for that nonsense. |
|
Dodd pointed it out and Edwards elaborated. But that's neither here nor there. The fact remains that Hillary is by and far more presidential than any of the bumbling, flipflopping fools in the Republican stable of nimrods.
How sad is that?? |
|
Fred D. Thompson is the only candidate that actually wants to enforce immigration laws, build the wall, protect our borders, punish states that harbor illegals by withholding federal funding, levy huge fines to employers caught hiring illegals.
Romney, Giuliani, Huckabee, McCain are all candidates that want to pave the road to amnesty for all these people. Don't listen to what they are saying, look at their records. All of these guys roll out the red carpet to illegals.
If you are another American who is tired of politicians giving illegals taxpayers money through free health care, free educations for their children, access to welfare, social security that they never paid into, then there is only one candidate who promises to solve this problem by stopping it, not by ignoring the problem for another 4 years. Vote for Fred |

because either way she alienates a big moveon.orgDemocrat consituency.
And why is it that when we speak of "illegal immigrants" we mean Mexican nationals? There are other nationalities in this country illegally. (And we expect THEM to speak ENGLISH!)
These who would receive driver's licenses are driving anyway without ramification. I'd bet a good many of them are already voting in US elections.
Oh well...this was a great country while it lasted. |
