Obama Camp Disavows Last Year's 'Inartful' Statement on D.C. Gun Law

Just in time for the General Election -- and the Supreme Court's decision on the D.C. gun ban -- Obama is readying himself to reverse his position on Second Amendment rights.
From ABC.com:
ABC News' Teddy Davis and Alexa Ainsworth Report: With the Supreme Court poised to rule on Washington, D.C.'s, gun ban, the Obama campaign is disavowing what it calls an "inartful" statement to the Chicago Tribune last year in which an unnamed aide characterized Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., as believing that the DC ban was constitutional. More ...
Asked by ABC News' Charlie Gibson if he considers the D.C. law to be consistent with an individual's right to bear arms at ABC's April 16, 2008, debate in Philadelphia, Obama said, "Well, Charlie, I confess I obviously haven't listened to the briefs and looked at all the evidence."
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., by contrast, has been forthcoming when it comes to the D.C. gun law. He signed an amicus brief in the District of Columbia v. Heller case, signaling not only his belief in the Second Amendment but also his view that the DC gun ban is incompatible with it.
The D.C. ban prohibits residents from keeping handguns inside their homes and requires that lawfully registered guns, such as shotguns, be locked and unloaded when kept at home.

I read some of the commentary on Obama's website about his most recent position on the Heller decision. He is really taking heat from the crazy liberals for his statement, watered down as it is. That means that, if every member of the vast right wing conspiracy from top to bottom (that's me) demands a clear response from him, sooner or later some journalist will have him cornered and he will answer. However he answers will cost him a couple of million votes. It's pile-on time. |

Pasadena Phil,
Fun, witty barbs about politics are one thing.
But you're a 50-something year old fellow. Aren't you a little too old to be calling another person a "child molester" due to a disagreement over politics ?
And come on, you even told him he has a small p*nis ?
I hope that isn't a Freudian concern of yours. (Ha, ha, ha.) |
|
|
Yeah, you're going to last around here. Good luck with that drug problem. |
|
You provide the typical liberal rant - quoting and believing what the illegals say versus what the Police Sgt on scene.
It's ALL speculation until a full investigation is performed.
I'm really surprised TH allows profane posters like you to post. I sincerely feel sorry for your family (if you have one) and/or your dog that you probably kick daily.
Get some help, seriously!

IT APPEARS THAT THE RACE WILL BE DECIDED BASED ON WHETHER "MORE" EMPTY HEADED, GULLIBLE OBAMA FOLLOWERS SHOW UP AND VOTE ARE MORE OF THE DEEP THINKERS, WITH A MIND OF THEIR OWN DO, WHO SEE BENEATH THE SURFACE AND THRU THE PROPOGANDA. IT WOULD BE LESS NEGATIVE IF BEGUILED OBAMA WORSHIPERS WERE OBJECTIVE AND DID THEIR HOMEWORK INSTEAD OF LETTING THEIR EMOTIONS DECIDE OR VOTE BASED ON FALSE HOPE. THIS ISN'T A PERSONALITY, BEST GIFT OF GAB AND FANTASY CONTEST! THE DEM.,LEADERS ETC., WANT TO MOVE AS FAR AWAY AS POSSIBLE, FROM THE FAILED BUSH YEARS. SO THE NEWCOMER WITH THE NEW APPROACH HAS MET THAT NEED! LETS HOPE THE "GOOD" THAT OBAMA CAN BRING IS WORTH ALL THE BAD HE REPRESENTS. HIS PAST TIES, WITH ENEMIES OF AMERICA ARE SCARY AND HIS INEXPERIENCE ETC., EVEN MORE SCARY! |
|
Pasadena Phil,
You called John a "child molester," you told him he has a "small appendage," you called him a "sissy," and then you inferred that I like show tunes and that I'm gay.
Exchanging playful barbs about politics is one thing, but after seeing the way you stoop so low, it's really hard to believe that you're the same age as....my father !
Ha, ha, ha. |
|
You write,
"I could link several more stories that would rip your little dick off. In the future, just make your point and keep your sissy temper tantrums to yourself."
LMAO - seems the person having a sissy temper trantrum is the one spewing anger and hate. No surprise a guy with the initials PP wants to talk about d*cks.
Clean up your act. Your losing control only makes you smaller. |
|
|
I guess you and DNC Joe have found a new name-calling girlfriend. You ought to start a blog of your own to discuss your favorite show tunes. You are certainly incapable of discussing politics without personal attacks. |
|
John,
Just wanted to give you a head's up that Pasadena Phil likes to call people "child molester" when they disagree with him.

In your zeal to divert the attention from Obama's embarrassing stance on the 2nd Amendment you want to tar-and-feather McCain because a murder happened in Phoenix??
Local police officials made the following statement,
Sgt. Joel Tranter said one suspect revealed that he had “prior military training,” but there was “no credible evidence” that any of them were active in the military."
But let's blame McCain, right?? (eyes rolling)
Gee Phyllis, what does Obama have to say about this?
"The Chicago murder rate of 15.65 per 100,000 population is still above the U.S. average"
"435 Homocide in Chicago during 2007"

Instead of stepping up and saying "I disagree but will abide by the Courts ruling"... he has to "dance" around his previous statements supporting the DC Gun ban.
What is wrong with this guy?? Any time he is shown to be wrong, mistaken, or challenged Obama blames others or attempts political gymnastics to suggest he never really held the previous position.
Uh huh - right - "Change", "New kind of politics"? |
|
I'LL SAY THIS FOR MCCAINS CHANGE OF MIND ON DRILLING OFFSHORE ETC., BEING FLEXIBLE WHEN THE TIDE TURNS IS A STRENGTH. UNLIKE THE RIGID PRES.,BUSH WHO HAS HIS FEET LOCKED IN CONCRETE WITH HIS STUBBORN MIND THINK, EVEN WHEN HE'S WRONG! ITS ONE THING TO PROTECT THE ENVIROMENT WHEN GAS PRICES ARE REASONABLE BUT WHEN THINGS CHANGE, A FORMER POSITION SHOULD INSTEAD FOLLOW "TODAYS" NEED! SECOND, WHY ARE WE SURPRISED THAT OBAMA, THE "DOVE", WANTED GUN RIGHTS DENIED? THE IDEALISTIC PEACENIK THINKS JUST "WORDS" WILL CHANGE THE ENEMIES AMBITIONS. WHAT WOULD HE DO IF AN IRAN NUCLEAR ACCOMPLISHMENT BECAME AN IMMINENT THREAT? PROBABLY WAIT UNTIL THEY MAKE A FIRST STRIKE. IN THE MEANTIME, DON'T TAKE THEM SERIOUSLY, IGNORE THEIR AGGRESSIVE INTENT! HE GUESSED RIGHT ON IRAQ BUT CAN WE TRUST HIS ASSUMPTION THAT GIVES IRAN THE BENEFIT OF A DOUBT? HE TENDS TO NOT REACT. THAT SCARES ME! |

for many of you, thje differences between the Obamessiah and McCain are becoming clear. McCain's wrong on SOME issues, Obama is wrong on ALL of them. |
|
He needs to fire some of his advisers.
He should have just said: I disagree with it, but I will respect it and abide by it.
At least that way, he doesn't come across as switching positions.

In the past week:
Campaign Finance: "This is not the campaign finance program I knew."
The (childish, arrogant) seal: "This is not the seal I knew."
Position on Iraq: "This is not the automatic troop withdrawal I knew."
FISA bill: "This is not the FISA bill I knew."
Kennedy decision (yesterday): "This is not the Supreme Court I knew."
DC gun ban decision: "This is not the position I knew."
Offshore drilling: "This may not be the drilling I knew [but I'm still doing some polling on this one]."
Let's face it: Obama, his wife, and the hard left are about nothing but preening, makeovers, and change...for the worse.
I couldn't care less about "change." I want improvement and McCain's my best shot at that.
I'm sure that I missed something. |
|
Obama and McCain look like a Chinese tumbling team. They give each other cover with their flipping.
It's hard to know where Mack would land once he were president. Obama's going back to the hard left.
Phil, I know you don't believe there's any difference. I just can't quite see it that way. |

Members of the Mexican Army arrested for home invasion and murder IN PHOENIX!!! How dense is McCain anyway? These are his neighbors in his own town. These guys are hired assassins. How long before they are killing/kidnapping business people, politicians and anyone who has money? |

Carol had a post yesterday about so-called flip-flops. I don't like that expression because it tosses decidedly different issues into one pot.
In some cases, the issue is insignificant. In other cases, it's an issue that appeals to a core constituency of one's party. I don't have a problem with those.
The problems with changes come when (1) the change overturns the candidates longstanding position on an important issue without a good reason, and (2) the change is a transparent and disingenuous change intended to pander to voters in the middle.
For Obama, his positions on Campaign Finance, the FISA bill, his slow walk to the middle on the Iraq War and foreign policy, his position on yesterday's Kennedy decision, and now his position on this gun decision (and others, I'm sure) fall into one of those two objectionable categories. Keep in mind, where Obama drives right to get to the center, he's lying because he's joined at the hip with the hard left. Indeed, no matter what he says, he IS the hard left. It matters little what he SAYS, it only matters what he DOES. And what he does is the un-American hard left. |

..becoming the Inartful Dodger. He's used that word before: "inartful." Sounds like a dodge to me. Man up, Barack, and say, "I was wrong."
He's coming across more and more like a slippery eel. Or a weasel, a waffle and a wuss. |
