Obama to "Reboot" Relations with Muslim World
Posted by: Amanda Carpenter at 8:03 AM
Barack Obama believes his presidency presents the opportunity to renew relations with the Muslim world and intends to deliver as speech from a Islamic capital as president.

"I think we've got a unique opportunity to reboot America's image around the world and also in the Muslim world in particular,'' Obama told the Chicago Tribune.

Last week the New York Times reported Obama's staff was considering scheduling a speech in a Islamic capital during Obama's first 100 days, like Cairo or Jakarta where Obama spent time as a child. Obama confirmed this to the Tribune reporters.

Obama said he had an "unrelenting" willingness to "create a relationship of mutual respect and partnership in countries and with peoples of good will who want their citizens and ours to prosper together."

He also said he intends to use his full name (Barack Hussein Obama) when he is sworn in as president.

Radical Muslims advocate state-sponsored oppression of other religion. You are advocating state-sponsored oppression of another religion. Under your plan we're merely sacrificing one form of tyranny for another.

And, of course, never mind the Constitutionality of such a measure. Are you advocating amending the Constitution to implement your plan?

Yeah. I wouldn't address worldwide terror networks. I'd address those within the confines of the United States. I'd let other countries deal with their own problems themselves; which, more often than not, is little more than an immigration problem for them as well.

Like I said, my goal of fulfilling the primary function of government, keeping citizens from dying violently, is different from the establishment's goal of eliminating any threat.

I see no reason to cut ties with any foreign country. And I don't see how eliminating the migration or visitation of Muslims or potential Muslims to the US would require any such cut.

This is interesting,

"He poisoned the sources of human felicity at the fountain, by degrading the condition of the female sex, and the allowance of polygamy; and he declared undistinguishing and exterminating war, as part of his religion, against all the rest of mankind. THE ESSENCE OF HIS DOCTRINE WAS VIOLENCE AND LUST: TO EXALT THE BRUTAL OVER THE SPIRITUAL PART OF HUMAN NATURE...While the merciless and dissolute dogmas of the false prophet shall furnish motives to human action, there can never be peace upon earth, and good will towards men." John Q. Adams on Muhammad (emphasis in the original)

I'm not sure how the evil Bush sycophants got to John Q, but its clear they did. Time machine? Oh wait! John Q is being more honest than George "Religion of Peace" Bush.

LIBS have no clue
For those of you out there that have never been in middle east let me give you a clue. Islam is not about peace of freedom. Islam is the most oppresive and violent religion in the world. Here is the simple fact muslims today want to do exactly what they were able to do when they had military power. Hence WE need to maintain power in our favor. Have any of you muslim defenders ever done any real research on Islamic / muslim history? You would be appalled by their actions. In countries like Sudan where they have the upper hand look at what they are doing to the Christian living there. There is no excuse for their actions. My solution is ban the koran, teat down ever mosque, and get rid of every imam. Islam should not be taught and once you get rid of those three things and future generations grow up not being taught islam you will see the world will be a better place.

What you suggest does absolutely nothing to address the central issue of worldwide terror networks. Unless you suggest that we also close our embassies, stop importing foreign oil, cut global business ties, withdraw our overseas troops,etc...American interests will remain at risk.

I too have friends from the Middle East and Asia Minor. I was offered (begged!) a free ride to the American University of Beirut by a Palastinian friend some 20 years ago.

However, I know three fundamental truths:

1. Not all Muslims are terrorists, but nearly all terrorists are Muslim.

2. It is impossible to tell the difference between an apostate and a Muslim simply by looking at them.

3. It is permissible to lie for the sake of Jihad.

This is exactly what I told my friend when I rejected his offer. I also told him I had zero sympathy for foreigners who were captured or killed by Muslims while in the ME or Asia Minor.

PS: He made the offer about a week AFTER I remarked how much easier US foreign policy would be with mostly-Muslim countries if Israel didn't exist. I said this to guage his reaction: he immediately looked down at his feet and said, "No, no. That isn't right." He couldn't hide the smile on his face though. I'm not saying that this was a reason for the offer, but it was a "hmmmm" moment for me.

The primary function of government, any government, is to keep its citizens from dying violently. This function is accomplished by the US government, vis-a-vis Islam, by placing a moritorium on all forms of immigration from mostly-Muslim countries. This also means securing the borders and revoking visa's of visitors and immigrants from mostly-Muslim countries.

And given that Islam is little more than a suicide cult, mosques in the US should suffer the same treatment as the "compound" in Waco.

My solution is more tolerant than war and a heck of a lot less expensive. But then, my goal is to fulfill the primary function of government rather than the Bush-State Dept-UN goal which is to eliminate the threat.

Charles, you want to kill all Muslims because of their religion, whether or not they pose a threat to you. Radical Muslims want to kill (or oppress) you because of your religion, whether or not you pose a threat to them. Sounds pretty familiar to me, regardless of who started it.

Perhaps you don't know any Muslims. I do. They do not wish to kill or murder or oppress anyone, they just want to be left alone to practice their religion, live their life, raise their kids, enjoy the American dream. The idea that you want to kill friends of mine based solely on their religion is pretty sick.

How in God's name would nuking Mecca solve the problem for a decade or two, or even for a single moment? Putting aside the fact that the very suggestion is monstrous (and that is a fact), it's absolutely laughable that you think it would somehow put an end to terrorism (for up to 20 years no less?)!!! The whole idea of launching a nuclear attack, in any context, is to completely devastate the enemy, hopefully to the point that they can't continue fighting. In World War II, we firebombed the hell out of every city in Japan, and ultimately nuked two of them, in order to so weaken the infrastructure of the country that they had to give up. The fact that Mecca's so significant to Islam, and that so many people are there during the Hajj, absolutely does not mean that if we destroyed it, it would somehow knock the legs out from under what you people call Islamofascism. Quite the opposite, actually. Each and every muslim in the world (and that's over 1.3 billion) would hate us just as much as the most rabidly radical members of al qaeda, and we'd only further ossify the power of the most anti-american clerics in muslim nations. And if you take from this argument the idea that we should, then, simply keep nuking (and maybe even firebombing) muslim-majority cities until they do all give up, then God help us all. I'm not saying I know what the end all, beat all answer to this conflict is, but I know what it ain't, and nuking Mecca, or any other city based on its significance to the religion of Islam, or the number of muslims inhabiting it, is simply (and i am not speaking hyperbolically here) the absolute dumbest thing I've ever heard of in my entire life. And it is pretty grotesque, besides.

This notion there are peaceful muslims has yet to be proven. With reports of muslims living in dearborn, or more accurately bagdad west, partying in the streets after 9/11 I doubt any have the slightest regret over the thousands killed in was or nyc.

There is yet any credible group of muslims calling for an end to terrorism and the mosques in america are said to be information centers for increased hatred and hostility towards the west.

But if muslims truly believe in peace they might so the world they can act civilized and get rid of the corrupt oil sheiks and mullahs that call for and send brainwashed and illiterate followers to the deaths all the while shooting allah akbar

I will preface this, by saying that I DO NOT consider all Muslims as terrorists. Having said that, when will those, who subscribe to the Rodney King World View, i.e. "can't we all just get along"?, and think, if only we stop "our Imperialism", the whole world will love one another, wake up and realize that radical Islamofascists DO NOT want to "get along"... They want those that disagee with them dead and that includes their fellow Muslims.

You can negotiate with sane people, who actually want to live with you in a peaceful world. The thought, on the other hand, that you can offer carrots, "words, just words", and negotiate without preconditions with those, who wish only two things: The Death of Civilization and their interpretation of Islam to conquer every inch of the globe, is both lunacy and an invitation to disaster.

BHO has lost his mind, if he thinks that his Messiah's words will change the minds of radicals one iota. I suppose there must be something in the water in Chicago that leads a lot of pols to delusions of grandeur.

Rather, I'm saying that not all Muslims DON'T want to live in peace nor do people deserve to be killed solely on the basis of their religion.

May I remind you that for nearly 6 years the administration has taking the fight to terrorists in epicenter of the war on terrorism, Iraq?

Has the result of the 100,000s of troops and 100s of billions in funds resulted in a reduction of terrorism? Or rather, has it, as the Pentagon asserts, been a major recruitment tool for AQ and its' affiliates.

Supporters of the administration's efforts in Iraq routinely extol dissenters to listen to the Generals. Well, no less than Petreaus himself has repeatedly stated that we will not defeat the terrorist networks militarily.

Obama, leave well enough alone...
The man avoided using his middle name, Hussein, during his campaign. He has taken pains to be known as "Barry." Now, he thinks his election is the signal to use "Hussein" for world consumption? In Muslim countries, it's known that Obama was baptized into Christianity by Reverend Wright. This event came about 20 years ago or less. Therefore, was he or was he not a Muslim until his conversion? He is the son of a Muslim father, that decides much in Islam. There's never been clarity regarding that, nor has there been clarity regarding much of the rest of his life before Chicago. I believe that in the eyes of the world's Muslim population, Obama using the name "Hussein" will serve to remind Muslims that he, Obama, is an apostate. Perhaps American Muslims may grudgingly accept his apostacy, but I doubt the world's other Muslims will welcome his "rebooting" idea. He can only shed his status of "apostate" by returning in earnest to Islam. I wonder how he'd manipulate that delicate business? In the end, it's his policies that will count. The name issue is strictly juvenile tokenism. He should leave it alone and be exactly who he was when elected.

And in reality we probably wouldn't have to if we got smart. In the last part of the 19th century fundamental Islamics went on a terrorist binge that was brought to a sudden halt by the summary execution of 50 terrorists who were then washed in pig's blood and wrapped in pigskins and sent back to their villages. There wasn't another Islamic fundamentalist attack until the 1940's. Maybe we just need to be smart about this.

What's the first thing you think of when you hear the word Muslim or Islam? If you said murder, torture, submission, war, imprisonment, beheading, stoning, intimidation, slavery or domination, go to the head of the class.

Muslims, starting somewhere around 600 AD, have had plenty of time to demonstrate that they want to be a peaceful member of the family of man. They have consistently demonstrated that they do not want that. They prefer instead to continue their quest for world domination.

Comrade Obummer
How naive can you get? Or is there something more sinister involved here? Either way -- naivete or evil -- American loses under Comrade Obummer. Or should I say Imam Obummer.

I'm curious
For the last eight years the US admin has taken the no dialog route witnessed here. That has resulted in AQ morphing from a collection of small intertwined cells to a McDonald's style worldwide franchise.

My question, what SOLUTIONS do posters suggest beyond outreach? Please bear in mind that there are 1.5 billion Muslims worldwide so military force is not an option.

The Dear Leader and his "reboot"
What is he going to do, reconvert to Islam the way that imam said he had better do last week? FYI, for any Muslim to convert to Christianity (or any religion other than Islam) is a death offense to Muslims. How is the Dear Leader going to go to a Muslim country to give a speech in his first 100 days if he is under a death sentence because of his conversion?
Dirjj writes: Wednesday, December, 10, 2008 1:53 PM
Reboot
Really? The U.S. needs to reboot "Our Image". Why does no one ever ask if the rest of the world needs to reboot theirs?

Frankly, we need to Control Alt Delete the "Muslim world". When Islam can coexist with Christianity and Judaism, like Buddhism and Hinduism doesn, then I can tolerate it.

Rebooting an Abacus

Who knows? Maybe he can make the muslims quit hating Jews.

Yeah, like that's gonna happen in our lifetimes.

Give it chance........are you kidding
Please ask the Christians in southern Sudan about giving it a chance. Muslims are conducting raids against Christian villages in the south. In these raid women and children are carried off to be enslaved. The women are most times gang raped. Then let us go on to so called domestic servants. They come from very poor countries to work in Saudi homes. Their passports are taken and they are not allowed to leave. They make very little money. Then let us talk about shiria finance laws that are being push all around the world. Right here in the U.S. there are madrasas's that are preaching hate for West. One Saudi cleric actually called for jewish woment to be enslaved and that muslims had the legal right to do it. Look at the Mid East. Other relgions are not tolerated. Then there is the general treatment of women in these countries. Facts are facts islam is not a relgion peace. It never has been to allow a relgion like this to spread is inviting destruction of OUR way of life. WE have an obligation to future generations to not just defend ourselves but to end this threat for good.

Give it a chance
As long as Obama really does say loud and clear we will not change our values of freedom and tolerance. As long as he says out loud we will fight radical terror and as long as he does not apologize for the U.S. deposing the worst dictator since Hitler who killed a million muslims---I am willing to let him try his "outreach." But, I, too am not optimistic.

All these sensitive conservative media
See, Hugh Hewitt and gang! He has no problem with his name, but you certainly did when others called him the exact name he will be using at his very public swearing in ceremony. Seems the problem was yours after all, not anyone else's.

And I wonder how successful that outreach will be? Hasn't seemed to work so far in India and Israel, but perhaps the Chosen One will have more success than the two non-Islamic countries most tied to Islam. I guess the problem really was that we didn't outreach to Al-Qaeda. I knew it was our fault. This guy has NO chance of fighting radical Islam. He fails to understand his outreach will be seen as noxious to hyper-religious zealots. Do you remember, Obama, how the Pope's presence in some places was protested as being provocative? But go ahead and dream on, Obama. We wanted a vacation from the war...we'll see what we get.

Foxmustang--you're right,, but..
True, the Muslim nations are more likely to harbor or tacitly support the terrorists, but my point is that Obama gains nothing by focusing on the leadership of those countries who are already supporting, or at least putting on the front of supporting, peaceful relations with the non-Islamic world.

the messiah and his campaign
the media went gaga that the messiah spoke little and looked as though he was in deep thought when asked questions or used measured responses during the debates.

It is closer to the truth, he is both a mental lightweight and incapable of thinking outside the talking points his handlers put on his teleprompter.

He wrote in his ghost written love letters to himself that in any conflict he will side with muslims.

He maintained a long and personal relationship with the hater farrakhan so we know he is comfortable with muslim haters of america.

I am sure he frequently mouths allah akbar when greeting his muslims pals

We know he lacks substance will the media fully report it whe n he starts to demonstrate how utterly clueless he truly is about all the issues facing america

Wrong on Muslims nations
I have lived several years outside the U.S. and traveled through Europe, Middle East, and Africa. I have seen muslim culture and their relgion up close. You better believe that if they feel like they can get on top they will and then they will do exactly like they have in the past. Once again people in the west need to wake up and run this relgion and culture out of their countries. I do believe in the freedoms this country offers but this relgion and culture will destroy them. Therefore they are an enemy of the state and should be dealt with accordingly

The "Muslim nations" aren't the trouble
It's the radical groups such as AlQaeda, Hamas, Hezbollah, Taliban, etc. who are committed to our destruction with or without a state sponsor. Our relations with most Islamic nations are reasonably good, as they realize or are beginning to realize, the threat from the Islamofacists. Barack's failure to discern this distinction is very troubling. He can give his speech from the capital of an Islamic nation, and the radicals will blow up everyone there, including the friendly leadership of the nation. This is a war, and there has been progress with the leadership and sane populace of many Muslim nations in recognizing the common enemy of radical Islam.
Patrick writes: Wednesday, December, 10, 2008 10:55 AM
Muslim histroy
One only needs to research how muslims have acted in the past when they had power to force their ways. The murdered, enslaved, pillaged whole countries. I have spent time researching their past and have looked at their current actions. NOTHING has changed. The west needs to wake up and realize that muslims want 21ST century weapons and a 6TH century relgion. I will not submit I will fight and defend our way of life.
foxmustang writes: Wednesday, December, 10, 2008 10:49 AM
Why do we want
to reboot our relationship with the Muslim nations??????
We sacrificed and lost good men defending Muslims from the Serbian murderers in the early 1990s.
How do they repay us??????
They attack us incessantly under Clinton's watch eventually leading up to the attacks on Sept 11 2001.

Obambi Reboot Story
Considering, the election funds he received from them, his hidden but strong love of Islam, why is anyone suprised. The man is a pathological self centered self absorbed politican who was placed in this position to assist in the destruction the United States. And he will attempt to do just that.

And which Muslim countries would that be?
Homer writes: Wednesday, December, 10, 2008 9:22 AM
This reboot business of Obama reminds
me of Chauncey Gardner in the film, Being There. Chauncey leads a narrowly defined life, sheltered from reality. He is about to be mugged in his home. He points the TV remote at the mugger in an attempt to change reality and thus avoid what is about to happen to him. Obama desires to reboot the universe and change everything back to some previous age and that which he would prefer to see.
Patriotic Chicagolander writes: Wednesday, December, 10, 2008 9:00 AM
REBOOT?
"Soon Islam will become the dominating force in the world, occupying first place in the number of followers amongst all other religions...We don't shy away from declaring that Islam is ready to rule the world." - Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, President of Iran.

How about a boot for this dummy and his mullah ventriloquists instead of a "reboot?"
