Chris Matthews to Mitt Romney: "How Many Houses do You Have?"
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 5:55 PM

On Hardball tonight, Chris Matthews went there ...

Chris Matthews:  "How many houses do you have?"

Mitt Romney:  "One less than John Kerry -- and that'd be four."

Chris Wanted To Stun Romney But Didn't
Time and time again, Mitt came back with a well-thought articulate simple answer. There were no uhh, umm, well the uhh, uhhh. Romney is obviously a smart, sensical person with business savvy. In my opinion, Romney would make a really great VP.

As for Chris, he should comb his hair and focus on what he's doing.

Houses
The mange stream media can make an issue out of anything, or not.
Malik Obama of Kenya, bHussein Obama's brother says, "An African doesn't need much to go on." Hummmm and after all the trillions of dollars the US congress, organizations, private and public charities, private citizens, celebrities, the UN, and and other nations have poured into Africa, you sure couldn't tell, nor by what bHussein Obama is saying he's going to do.
Matthews should ask George Hussein Ouyango Obama the Obama brother living in a shack on a dollar day in Nairobi how many houses he will own when his brother gets to be US president.
I find it ironic that a bHussein Obama's brother has the first name of George. LOL George Obama.

Romney sharp as ever
I love how he dominated Mathews. The debate went from topic to new topic because Romney stifled Chris. Can you imagine how many plugs Biden will pull when Romney rattles him in VP debates should McCain choose him.
JD's Handsome Son writes: Wednesday, August, 27, 2008 7:31 PM
Good One Cicero
Mitt should have said that he has one fewer houses than Kerry, all four of them have less square footage than Edwards' house, that he's not murdered any women like a Kennedy, hasn't molested any women like Bill Clinton, and hasn't fathered any illegitimate kids like Jesse Jackson (and John Edwards).

That Charlie Brown headed Mathews might have gone into an insulin shock.

Chris and His Democratic Talking Points

I suppose the number of houses you have is somehow now relevant to running the country? Give me a break, what a goof-ball.

God is working miracles this year. First Kennedy, then Stephanie Tubbs Jones. Perhaps Matthews will be next. He's not a well man. He's got diabetes, at least. Please, Lord, strike him down.

Maybe I was a little harsh. OK, Lord, dont' kill him, just paralyze him so he can't speak and we can laugh at him.

houses
I wonder if you add up the square feet that Kerry/Edwards might not have more than McCain/Romney. Edwards does have the 28,000 sq ft mansion.

Rosemary writes: Wednesday, August, 27, 2008 5:54 PM
Elitism
as applied to Barack Obama - is a description of his attitude - his arrogance. Although - the Obamas didn't waste much time moving into a 1.7m house even thought they apparently needed the advice/help of a shady character. I doubt if the Obamas would hesitate to purchase a couple of additional homes if they could do it.
Who cares how many homes any of these people own - it is practically a given - no poor man can be elected President. And who wants a President with personal financial problems anyway.
John McCain has the experience, character and knowledge of every issue important to our country. Obama has lots of question marks hanging over his head.

Matthews is a disgrace to journalism. I can't say I'm not glad though that American's have seen this unadulerated love fest between the press and Obama. They're getting a good look at the people who have demonized Pres. Bush for so long and coming to some very different conclusions.

It's a lot like when you're a teenager and your friends have convinenced you that your parents aren't cool they're out of touch. You believe it until something happens that gives you a real look at your so called friends and your parents. You grow up in that moment. You realize your parents have wanted nothing but the best for you and to keep you safe. Parents have to make unpopular decisions but they do it because it's their job.

The American people are getting a good look at who cares about them, their family their country. Seeing the bias in the media has opened the eyes of a lot of the American's and they know now what they've been reported hasn't been what's reality. To not relate Bush's approval rating to the bias coverage of Obama is to be very very biased.
Globug writes: Wednesday, August, 27, 2008 8:44 AM
Wealthy Republicans,We Can't Have That!
Why in the world would wealthy Democrat politicians tell the American people that wealth is evil if you don't belong to their party?
Democrats seem to suggest that only Democrat Politicians and their wealthy friends should be rich.
Shame on any American that believes that attacking wealthy Republicans because it is politically expedient is good for our country.

Bush and Cheney's money combined was a small percentage of Kerry's and less than Edward's.

Oh yeah - Edwards was a trial attorney and Kerry hooked up with 2 rich widows. Very inspirational stories.

Why all the obsession with wealth and houses anyhow? I didn't see anyone complaining about how many houses Ted Kennedy owns during his yacht sailing video last night.

Not to mention that the Obama's made over 4.2 million last year, yet still need help from felons to buy a home as well as using political influence to get a special deal on the mortgage.

I would mention the Clinton's, but you already know all about Whitewater.

Oh wait- I get it. It's okay to be rich and own multiple homes if you get them from shady land deals, help from felons and/ or political empires without every doing a days work in your life.

Maybe if Obama wins, we can all live in huts, like his brother. You know, the polar opposite of how Cindy McCain's kids and elderly aunt live in homes that she pays for.

Thanks, Giselle. I will stick with McCain style care for family over Obama's idea of wealth redistribution, seeing as how his brother made out on the deal. BTW- have you seen the price of arugula at Whole Foods? I know that midwest farmer's haven't. They couldn't afford to shop there, even if there was a Whole Foods in their state.

"Instead, the GOP is looking mighty toothless in their attempt to throw off the stench of Elitist backdraft."

For your information, being elitist has nothing to do with how much money you have or how many homes you have. Check your Thesaurus. Better still, I will provide you with the information.
Here are just a few: snobbish, arrogant, condescending, pretentious, and self-important. I believe that fits Obama perfectly.

And finally, Mitt Romney was great! The best thing that could happen to the GOP ticket.

Romney's a gritty fighter. McCain needs this on the ticket. Romney will go toe-to-toe with Biden any day. Gotta be impressed with Romney. He was a strong candidate in the primaries. Since he dropped out you couldn't ask a person to do more for McCain than Romney has. He's simply busted his butt to get McCain elected. That's loyalty folks. McCain's Houses in detail
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0808/12700.html

"Politico's analysis of the McCain records found that five of the eight properties were purchased between the summer of 2004 and this February, for a total of $11 million. And the analysis found that the McCains hired additional household help in 2007.

The five new properties are all condominiums, and they include three in Phoenix — one of which became the couple's primary Phoenix residence after a Cindy McCain family trust in 2006 sold for $3.2 million the house in which they raised their children — and a pair outside San Diego.

The new properties joined three previously owned by Cindy McCain, her dependent children and their trusts: a scenic ranch outside Sedona, Ariz., where John McCain has entertained staff, prospective running mates and political reporters; a three-bedroom Arlington, Va., condo that's been John McCain's Washington-area residence since 1993; a La Jolla, Calif. condo that is home to Cindy McCain's elderly aunt and on which the trust recently paid nearly $7,000 in back taxes.

The condo that serves as the McCain's primary Phoenix residence was purchased in 2006 for $4.7 million by Cindy McCain's trust. It is a 6,600-square foot unit."

Housing/class envy is a very shallow argument.

Also, if money is such a problem for Democrats as a leadership issue, why did they show a film of Teddy Kennedy on a very expensive looking yachet on opening night?

I guess it's O.K. to be filthy rich if your a Democrat. There is nothing worse than the Democrats thinking they've hit pay dirt on an issue.

And it seems the Democrats smugness on this is going to perhaps keep the most talented man off the GOP ticket. Politics suck!

Perfect response. Perfect. It wasn't a dig at anyone, it was just the truth. Wealth is not elitism and wealth is bipartisan. Note to Mr. Mathews, that is hardball.

I have to agree with Cav. How many homes you own is not always an indication of wealth. It is an indication that you are investing. Investing in homes is no different than any other investment and it does not mean the homes are mansions. The homes may be 900sqft condominium worth $50,000 used as rentals.

cavalier973 writes: Tuesday, August, 26, 2008 6:33 PM
The house question is so bogus
We live on less than $40,000 a year, and we're buying two houses, currently.

First of all, real estate is an investment most people can understand, since it's THERE. You can go look on it and stand around on it and such. Also, improving land is a relatively straightforward process; you build a house on it, or a farm, or whatever. You add a guestroom onto the back, and your property value increases. It's generally a safe investment, so when you get some extra money, you tend to put it in real estate.
Secondly, government creates outrageous incentives to get the populace to buy houses, so people may buy land and houses when it probably would make more sense to buy stocks instead, or expand your business (or start a business).
Thirdly, the tax system that we now labor under favors putting your money somewhere and letting it sit. Stocks are less attractive for doing this than real estate, due to volatility, which induces one to trade rather than buy-and-hold.

So what's the big deal if someone who earns a relatively higher income would put extra money into another house?

Angel writes: Tuesday, August, 26, 2008 6:26 PM
Go Mitt!
McCain didn't have an immediate answer to the houses question because he didn't know if the person who asked him meant condominiums, etc. That is clear to any fair-minded person who reads the transcript.

Barack and Michelle have a mansion with a 1,000-bottle wine cellar purchased with the help of felon Tony Rezko. Brother George Obama lives in a 6 x 9-foot shack. I think that we should move on.
Rush Conservative for Huck/2012 writes: Tuesday, August, 26, 2008 6:17 PM
