Romney Aides Behind Anti-Palin Rumors?
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 11:38 AM
The Prowler reports:
"Former Mitt Romney presidential campaign staffers, some of whom are currently working for Sen. John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin's bid for the White House, have been involved in spreading anti-Palin spin to reporters, seeking to diminish her standing after the election. "Sarah Palin is a lightweight, she won't be the first, not even the third, person people will think of when it comes to 2012," says one former Romney aide, now working for McCain-Palin. "The only serious candidate ready to challenge to lead the Republican Party is Mitt Romney. He's in charge on November 5th."

... When this is all over, look for Palin, Jindal, Romney, and Huckabee to fight it out.  The good news is that the Republican bench will be way deeper than it was in 2008, when we had no successor.

Romney and Huckabee will have each been through one vigorous primary campaign -- and Palin will have been through a General Election.  Meanwhile, Jindal will have been a Congressman -- as well as having served a full-term as governor...

frontrunner for what?
dogcatcher ,mister fixit couldn't even win the primaries inspite of massively outspending everyone else ,he's got the charisma of john kerry and simaliar voting habits .he's a fake anytime he has to face a real canidate he loses .

Well-known Romney hater, and famous for being exactly wrong. Go back, look at the track record. It's almost embarrassing.

delusions of bill and eddie too
eddie too said Romney is prone to making wrong decisions. Right. Guess that's how he became so successful.

bill's even funnier - something about the next election cycle and not seeing little mitty. Sorry, bill. No matter your personal doubts, Romney is the frontrunner for 2012 if McCain/Palin lose. (There's nothing you can do about it.) But this time, he is well-known and well-loved. And after 4 years of Obama, we are going to need Mr. Fix-it more than ever.

james beam writes: Monday, October, 27, 2008 7:59 PM
why am i not surprised
with the nasty posts sone of the romneyiacs have been writing ,2cents pc and others romney will never get my vote . i personly doubt that we will hear much out of little mitty in the next election cycle

jritterbush - Are you a Huckbot?
I found the Huckbots to be insane in their hatred of Romney. You are spewing the same bile as them. Funny how Huck became conservative after beating up on the conservative Baptists. Funny how he supported illegal immigration. Funny how he beat up on the conservative GOP in Arkansas. He destroyed the GOP there to the extent they are not even running a Senate candidate. Pllleeasse. Save us the bile on Romney. But maybe this is where Palin will shine. She can unite all conservatives (well almost all).

Brainlock Bill
Who said anything about blaming McCain's loss on Romney?

On the other hand, I'm absolutely sure Mitt Romney would never re-hire the same campaign thugs who are undercutting Sarah Palin. If you believe that, I have some stock in Wachovia to sell you.
QuestionCW writes: Monday, October, 27, 2008 5:02 PM
Wrong again.
No G, I'm labeling Romney the 'Anti-Christ' for his complete and utter phoniness and exuding supposed 'perfection' to conservatives who have conveniently forgotten or ignore Romney's un-conservative past. I predict Romney will be the nominee in 2012 because he will be-dazzle duped Republicans and because he can buy the nomination out of pocket.

How Limb-annity allowed themselves to get taken in by this fakir might be surprising, except for their own greed and allegiance to Wall Street types.
eddie too writes: Monday, October, 27, 2008 3:54 PM
zak is right. Romney did not

know how to defeat McCain or Huckabee. That is why he gave up so early in the contest. He knew he could not win. Why he subsequently chose to support McCain is the real mystery? It would appear from his run in the primaries he is prone to making many wrong decisions. Those decisions cost him greatly. Most likely, we will see the same phenomenon plague Romney if he should ever run again.

It's a veritable clown parade
How laughable. But, I don't underestimate the power of stupidity to keep this group at the top of the heap. Forget the fact that the GOP is imploding around them, and their tired, mean and WRONG-headed rhetoric is dying on the vine with the great losses you will bear next week.
Zak writes: Monday, October, 27, 2008 3:40 PM
Big G - Those are good articles
I can't immagine what it must be like for her to be ordered around by McCain staff. She should be herself (and it may even benefit McCain).

Gunlock Bill is right. If McCain loses it WON'T be Romney's fault. Jitterbush seems a bit (should I say alot) whack to me.
Zak writes: Monday, October, 27, 2008 3:36 PM
Why tag Romney for this?
I am not convinced the story is true but why tag the operates as former Romney aides. It should be highlighted "they" are current McCain aides.

Look I would like see McCain concentrate on Obama. Obama ties him with Bush. Instead of repeating the Obama charge in his denial, why isn't he tieing Obama with Pelosi and Reid? For goodness sakes, I am sure Obama voted more often with Pelosi and Reid than McCain did for Bush.

I am sure he is paying for good advice but I'm not seeing it. I think the Republicans chose a Republican who like Democrats too much. I think it pains him to attack them after working with them for so long. My view is that he is only there because of his tag team with Huck to knock out Romney. It worked, but we now have a pseudo democrat running against the real thing.

You are labeling Romney the "Anti Christ"(good one) for having said nothing but good about Palin and attributing his supporter's comments to him.

I showed you that there are also stories that attribute infighting between McCain and Palin's staff.

That doesnt mean that McCain or Palin has anything to do with it or that the article that you and Matt have crapped on here has anything to do with Romney.

People talk, and you have itching ears.

You're comparing Palin's ego to Romney's? That's a good one!

Bad Timing Matt
I think it's unfair and irresponsible to post something like this. I know you are close to the campaign but come on, all this does is gin up angst among the base. Is that what we need right now, to be worried about Nov 5th already?

Focus, Matt, focus. Today is a big news day with Biden interview fallout and new Obama tapes.
SheerFaith writes: Monday, October, 27, 2008 2:25 PM
Whatever
This is one of those items I file under "so what." Romney had his shot, and he may not be able to contend with Huckabee or even Palin in 2012 or beyond. I can't imagine him sanctioning such a thing. It could even be Democratic snipers or some illuminati wing-nuts just playing head games.

You are fired
""The only serious candidate ready to challenge to lead the Republican Party is Mitt Romney. He's in charge on November 5th."

Any GOP operative who at this point has thrown in the towel should be fired. If they are thinking this way now, they are not thinking of ways to win and see this across the finish line. To quit before election day shows they have no heart and they need to get in line for their welfare check.

As for the future (if they actually want to win) I don't see Romney or Huck in it except a cabinet post. That's only if the Stupid Party wants to shed its moniker.
QuestionCW writes: Monday, October, 27, 2008 1:15 PM
But wait, there's more...
Mr. Lewis left out some other gems from the American Spectator post--

"[Romney] failed to support or espouse conservative positions on the economic bailout bill in an effective or meaningful way, and he has turned down opportunities to endorse and work for conservative candidates in House or Senate seats unless they were assured of winning.

The most glaring oversight was Romney's refusal to do a phone recording for Massachusetts Republican Jeff Beatty, who is challenging Sen. John Kerry. "Mitt supposedly cares about Massachusetts, but won't even return phone calls asking for help," says a conservative working for Beatty in Boston. "It's a tough race, but the least he could do is help. He's showing his true colors."

It's all about The Mitt...
The Plumber writes: Monday, October, 27, 2008 1:14 PM
I supported Romney
just to keep McCain from getting the nod. I think Huck (and Thompson) was a McCain plant to keep Romney or a conservative from the GOP candidacy.

If Palin hadn't been added to the ticket, I'd be voting for Barr. Since she has been added, I've donated lots of time and a little money to the McCain/Palin campaign.

I've seen McCain supporters who despise Sarah Palin. I've also seen Romney supporters who intend to vote for Obama because they dislike McCain. Bizarre. Even more bizarre than the compromises I've had to make this election season.
Big G writes: Monday, October, 27, 2008 1:07 PM

for example, leave it to Huckabee supporters to

Romney "Anti Christ".

Stay classy.
QuestionCW writes: Monday, October, 27, 2008 12:37 PM
I'm not surprised
If Obama is labeled 'The Messiah,' I nominate Romney for the label of 'Anti-Christ.'

A person is often judged by the associates he keeps (Wright & Ayers anyone?). The fact that Romneyites are behind the Palin smears is disgusting, but not at all surprising. It makes me despise Romney all the more...
wise woman writes: Monday, October, 27, 2008 12:34 PM
Romney would NOT approve of this message
He is not behind this garbage; he's working hard to support the McCain-Palin ticket.

He's no double-minded Huck, raising questions, being sly. Romney is an honest person, a rare gem in the political world. And he's a gentleman. Think how he treats his wife on and off camera.

I just hope McCain can squeeze out enough votes to win this important election. Romney will help John all he can to win. Loyalty is also a rare trait.
Trampling out the vintage writes: Monday, October, 27, 2008 12:29 PM
Matt Lewis, you are a tabloid writer!
What happened to credible sources? Have the balls to do more than throw out a rumor! Disgusting!

Why the need to drive a wedge between Romney and others? That divide is wide enough!
Trampling out the vintage writes: Monday, October, 27, 2008 12:12 PM
OH STOP IT!! Romney didn't say it!
It was an aide and aides can be complete idiot in their blindness!

Matt Lewis, you should be ashamed of yourself for even putting this crap out there. Give me a break. Nice slam on Romney! Just stop it.
luckymick writes: Monday, October, 27, 2008 12:08 PM

... name the "aide" and "campaign staffers". Until you do, this is just rumor and gossip. I put about as much weight on this as being true as those media sources that quote "anonymous".

If these "aides" and "campaign staffers" don't want to be named then they have the lack of conviction and fortitude.

If they have genuine grievances and concerns they should not be "working" for the McCain/Palin campaign.
Nick Stuart writes: Monday, October, 27, 2008 11:56 AM
Who for 2012
If, God Forbid, McCain loses. My choice for 2012 is definitely either Romney or Huckabee.

Some commentators have remarked on the virtual impossibility of a President Obama being unseated in 2012. Either Rom or Huck would be great sacrifical lambs, leaving Palin tanned, tried, rested, and ready in 2016. Really good would be a Romney/Huckabee (or Huckabee/Romney) ticket. Get both of them flushed from the system at once.

I'd much rather see Rom & Huck get beat like gongs, since, face it, neither would have a chance anyway (sez I for inscrutable reasons too lengthy to go into). Then the ways are cleared for Palin/Jindal (or Jindal/Palin, or Palin/whoever) in 2016.
