Forbes and McCain?

Earlier, MKH noted the rumors that Steve Forbes might endorse John McCain.
Since he endorsed Rudy, and Rudy endorsed McCain, this seems plausible.
Of course, Forbes is a famous flat-taxer, and helped Rudy craft his top-notch tax plan, which included capital gains and corporate tax cuts -- and making the Bush tax cuts permanent.
McCain's plan is now similar to what Rudy proposed, which also leads me to believe Forbes might consider this.
I tend to think that endorsements matter if they mean the endorser will continue advising the endorsee, after the election (should the endorsee win). In the case of John McCain -- who admits he's not an economics expert--its especially important that he listens to the right people.
As such, I would be happy if Forbes did more than just endorse; he should also be giving McCain advice. With fiscally conservative advisers like Kemp, Coburn, and Gramm, supply-siders like me find a bit of solice in the prospects of a McCain presidency. Steve Forbes' support would provide one more good influence for McCain...
You can listen to my interview with Steve Forbes from October by clicking here.

"John McCain did not make enough votes to get a rating in 2007, spending a great deal of time campaigning for the presidency. His lifetime NJ composite rating is a 71.8 conservative score, not bad but not exactly leading-edge. Chuck Hagel got a 71.5 and Sam Brownback an 81, for comparison. However, the last several years shows a much lower rating than the lifetime score:
2006 - 56.7 2005 - 59.2 2004 - 51.7
Those numbers will not give conservatives much hope if McCain wins the nomination."

Makes as much sense as McCain, they are about the same. |

When are those involved in Romneys' campaign going to bring up McCains' involvement in that 1980's brouhaha regarding his (McCains) participation in the scams perpetuated by the savings and loan company that he was involved with? |

"Forbes is a famous flat-taxer"
Beaumont, Thomas. 5 April 2007. "Romney Calls Flat Tax Unfair" _Des Moines Register_ http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0407/3423.html Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney said Wednesday that he would propose eliminating taxes on savings for middle-class Americans if he is elected president, but he would not overhaul the U.S. tax code.
"I'm probably not going to be recommending throwing out the code and starting over," the Republican said during a meeting with Des Moines Register editors and reporters. "We all can dream about a much simpler, fairer, flatter system.
"I look to say, 'Can we make the tax rates lower for all Americans?' Can we make the tax on savings, particularly on middle-income Americans, disappear?" == Rival GOP presidential candidate Sam Brownback, a Kansas senator, has called for overhauling the tax code.
Romney also said he opposes implementing a flat income tax, calling the concept unfair. Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who is also running for the 2008 GOP nomination, said last week that he was open to the idea of a flat tax. == Only one caller seemed less than genuine. "You sound like a guy who sells home security systems," said the man, identifying himself as 18 and from Pottawattamie County.

Someone asked when McCain's involvement in the Savings & Loan scandal would be brought up.
For those that would like to learn more about it, here is the Wikipedia article on it.

BTW, these McCain endorsements are insiders backing the insider because they know how things "work" in Washington. It means nothing to me. |

Instead of actually reading good insights on each blog, each one is overrun by anti-McCain spammers who say the same crap, over and over again. Get over yourselves, and if you have nothing to add to the topic, just shut up. We get it, you hate McCain.
Forbes would be a nice addition to McCain's staff, and a nice endorsement. I like the economic and conservative endorsements he has already, and I'm certain that these guys will play an important role in his presidency. |

I think it's hilarious that they think they will change anyone's mind by copying & pasting their talking points repeatedly.
Hopefully once the nomination process is over the comments will once again be used for civilized discussion and debate. |

...added to "civilized discussion and debate" here? |
|
...got here.
Huckabee - THINKS he's gonna be VP- heh Lindsay Grahm - VP nominee? Ted Olsen- SCOTUS? Rudy Guliani- Attorney General? The Governator - Homeland Security? and now Forbes - Fed. Chairman??

Giuliani, Schwarzenegger, Ted Olson and now Steve Forbes. And there will be more, much more, before the weekend is over. |
|
Texas governor Rick Perry also endorsed McCain. The floodgates are opening. |

You admit that John McCain is weak on the economy and needs to have competent advisors. And of course that's the way smart executives do business.
But once the data's in hand a competent executive decision needs to be made.
McCain is also weak on making executive decisions of any kind, let alone having the 25 years of proven successful executive decision-making that Mitt Romney brings to the table.
As President of the USA, Romney with his brilliance in the business and financial world will no doubt surround himself with foreign affairs and military experts.
Maybe old boy McCain can find his place among those military experts - he's certainly not presidential material, he has no experience.

MY FRIENDS!
Meet John McCain – He will vote for you at MOST only 43.9% of the time. Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002 (BCRA), popularly known as McCAIN-Feingold made it a "federal crime for any corporation to broadcast, shortly before an election, any communication that names a federal candidate for elected office and is targeted to the electorate." (Such as Pro-Life) (overturned in McCain v. Wisconsin Right to Life)
Not only did it restrict Free Speech, it also worked against Pro-Life. This was in effect 30 days prior to a primary and 60 days prior to a general election. McCain voted AGAINST the Marriage Amendment 7-14-04 and again on 6-7-6 McCain Voted AGAINST National Right to Life Issues 25% of the time in 2005-2006 18% of the time in 2003-2004 and 67% of the time in 2001-2002.
McCain Voted AGAINST Family Research Council and American Family Association issues 38% of the time in 2006 34% of the time in 2005 33% of the time in 2004 0% of the time in 2003 25% of the time in 2002 33% of the time in 2001
John McCain DID NOT VOTE on 56.1% or 249 SENATE votes during this past congressional session. http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/members/m000303 /votes/missed/
Maybe if someone had woken him up he wouldn’t have missed vote 318 HR2764 on 9-6-7. Also known as the Brownback Amendment #2707, it would have prohibited funding of organizations that support coercive abortion. Watch McCain sleeping:
