California should be CARB FREE!

The California Air Resources Board or CARB, according to the Washington Times, is threatening to require all cars and light trucks sold in California after 2012 to feature metallic reflective window glazing (i.e. tints) to keep interiors cool and thus use less air condition.
No, I am NOT JOKING! There so many reasons why this is wrong on so many different levels, OTHER THAN just more Government intrustion into your lives, such as:
The problem is that the new windows would reflect radio waves, thus highly compromising the use of GPS units, garage-door openers, laptop computers, satellite radio systems, parolee ankle bracelets, wireless medical equipment and cell phones. The problem is that the new windows would reflect radio waves, thus highly compromising the use of GPS units, garage-door openers, laptop computers, satellite radio systems, parolee ankle bracelets, wireless medical equipment and cell phones.
The new windows would add about $250 to the cost of each vehicle. Cars with sunroofs, and perhaps convertibles, probably would not comply and thus could effectively be outlawed. Drivers trapped in their cars after accidents couldn't call 911.The new windows would add about $250 to the cost of each vehicle. Liberals fail to see the broad picture and just think Government is the solution to all - affectively killing the free market. Hmm, perhaps the Obama Administration can call these "saved jobs" since there is no way to justify that to begin with.

SHIPWRECK Obama wishes to make of the remainder of the country. Lunacy. Idiocy. Social Engineering of the Most Clueless Kind.

in one color and big screen televisions will be outlawed. You can still surf but only if you don't mind the raw sewage from Mexico containing hepatitis washing over your body as you hang ten. |

Of course government is the solution to everything as any intelligent thinking person knows. the inferior common people need their betters to guide them and set their course for them or they would be lost. people cannot be expected to make their own judgments and decisions, chaos would result from this. |

Saving a couple HP of engine use at best. Roll down you window and it'll cause more drag than using the AC. So by this wonderful logic does that mean in 2013, windows will no longer be allowed to open?
Step on the gas hard all the time (some stupid people do) and you'd waste more energy than this could save as well. Is that behaviour next?

The link to the Washington Times story appears to be broken. |

Excellent idea, oxygen tanks will be installed and it will be provided for a fee and rationed and co2 emissions will be monitered inside and outside your car and a surtax will be imposed. |

For what it's worth, CARB has responded to these concerns at http://www.arb.ca.gov/html/coolcarsfaq.pdf . I haven't yet found the Washington Times story so I don't know what the credentials are of those who say there are problems, but since CARB is obviously the King of All Science we should simply trust that what they say is the truth and everyone who disagrees is a quack. Yeah, right... If there's still any reasonable disagreement, there had better be a heck of a lot more study before they're allowed to pass a rule that could compromise our safety among other things. |

is not a real news organization. It is run by Rev. Moon.
Why do you believe garbage in such a 'publication'?
Here is the truth...http://www.arb.ca.gov/html/coolcarsfaq.pdf |

OK, here's a working link (I hope): http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/nov/05/unhealthy- carb/
This is an editorial, so it's certainly going to reflect the staff's worldview. Some of the facts cited in it are of interest, though, especially the fact that Toyota tried this and had problems, although that was some years back; and no, I'm not going to assume that the facts are made up just because the paper is associated with Rev. Loon. The "truth" in the CARB report is that they did "a test program" with three cars in Southern California, and they're planning on conducting a small test program. Since this has already failed once, to my mind they'd better do a lot more testing, including testing in rural areas where cell-phone reception is spottier. And maybe testing some of the alternative solutions alluded to in the WT article.

I went to the website (listed by ajb) to see the official line supporting this move, and the whole thing is filmed inside a massive, very well-lit garage/warehouse with only one person talking.
How much energy was wasted on that?
Gotta love government programs. |
|
|
then they can vote against it, right? Against the people who appoint these boards. Why is this your business if you don't live in CA? |
|
"Liberal Logic at it again"
Logic is not an attribute of liberals!

You cannot vote for these kinds of mandates. When The Gods have spoken , you will obey.
The So Cal AQMD is going to outlaw wood burning fireplaces soon. Apparently those few times a year you may actually bother to use it is supposedly killing about 5000 people from the polution every year (their statistic).

Its meant to be an oxymoron. |
