Mr. Brightside ...
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 8:58 AM
Tom DeLay sees a silver lining:

"Republicans are actually in an excellent position to embark on such a course right now. What with an unpopular president, an unorthodox presidential nominee, congressional conferences bottoming out in terms of their numbers of safe seats, and only a handful of well-known rising stars in the states, conventional wisdom says the Republican Party is a mess. I don’t see that at all. What pundits see as disunity can be very easily transformed into creative competition."
He has a point.  Republican's problems are so extensive right now that merely "tweaking" things won't help.  It's almost "freeing" to be in a position where you can essentially start from scratch, burn the barn down, and start over ...

I agree in part... in that it would be great to get rid of the RINOs completely.

However, the answer isn't to "burn down, and start over". The answer is to veer sharply back to the right. A strong stance on conservative principles is a win in all but the dark blue states. As a matter of fact, the Dims have proved this true in the two special elections where they out-conservatived the RINOs.

I agree with you and Matt. Any indications that the party leadership (aside from Newt and Tom D.) is taking note or learning from the defeats and conservative backlash? I haven't run across anything indicating that they are,...yet. Here's hoping they do, and soon.

Exactly
There is nothing left to salvage. The GOP for the past ten years has been a sellout of Biblical proportions. Time for all of the tired old losers to go home and let those who created the success story in the first place take back the reins. We already have a Democratic Party, we don't need a second. For now, how about rallying to defeat that Agriculture Bill monstrosity. It is beyond obscene. I have a feeling our GOP congressmen can here us breathing down their necks but are not going to turn around and face us until they have delivered the pork to those how are going to pay their big salaries after they are voted out of office. If GOP defeat is ugly enough in November, even the Dems will be scared because with the GOP gone, there will be no one left to blame but them. They will be hearing from us.

Good points! I especially liked your line about the Dems being scared and no GOP left to blame.

contradictory?
Matt agrees with Tom who says to vote Repubs which is tweaking OR Matt agrees with Tom and Matt wants to burn it down (Tom doesn't actually want this) which is startig over with a new Party?

I vote for the latter. Barr and Paul to pull down 25% of Repub vote and Nader to get 2% of Dem/libs.

That will be about 38-40 million voters (if that many) split between McCain and whoever. So McCain will become Prez with 20-22 million voters. hahaha. Out of a country of 300 million. Now, granted only about 90 million actually give a damn what goes on but still. Nice mandate, John. And no coattails. Smart, Repubs, real smart.
