Fear of 'Race Card' Accusations Handcuffed McCain Campaign
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 9:55 AM

From TIME's Swampland blog:

I recently spoke to Fred Davis III, the advertising mastermind behind John McCain's presidential run. Looking back, he described a campaign of missed opportunities. "I made a list once, which no one will ever see, of all the reasons that my hands were tied on this campaign," he told me. "And I've never had a list this long."

The biggest handcuff, he said, was the concern that McCain's attacks on Obama would be viewed as playing the race card. (The campaign still ran into trouble; McCain's operation was accused of playing the race card here and here.) Davis described an environment of overwhelming caution at McCain campaign headquarters. A series of spots that Davis made attacking Obama's record on crime never ran, because of concerns that they would be seen as playing to racial bigotry. The campaign dropped drums from ad scores because they might be viewed as an African tribal reference. Davis said he avoided using bad photos of Obama in the spots because of concerns about racism charges. Most importantly, the campaign never went close to Rev. Jeremiah Wright, on orders from McCain himself. But Davis still developed ads to attack Obama on Wright.

Society has "guilted" us...
...into accepting that there's only one reason for criticizing a black: racism.

Hence, hands are tied in the workplace, in schools, in the civil service; and now, apparently, even in the running for the most powerful job on earth.

What an effective shield to hide incompetence behind.

And as long as we remain fearful of pointing out anyone's faults and failures--because of a person's skin color--it tragically guarantees that we will remain less than what we collectively could be.

Lousy candidate
The MSM wanted a lousy candidate, and the GOP aristocracy obliged.

Great points Todd.
It also means that racism will flourish because we are not seeing and treating others as fellow human beings. This means that we will continue to be bullied into simply seeing people as black, white, Hispanic and on and on and on. This will continue to breed resentment on all sides, and keep many people from achieving that of which they are capable as they only gain praise and rewards because of their race.

Afraid of the imaginary "race card"
So, what Fred Davis is saying is that the war hero who defiantly stood up to the torture of the North Vietnamese did not run his best campaign with all his weapons, because he was afraid of some imaginary "race card"???

If that is the case, he deserved to lose. America and the Conservatives in this country deserve much better than a candidate like that.

Matt
We know it but McCain still doesn't know what rolled over him.

lost because he's a RINO.

He deserved to lose.
Try as we might he could not be PULLED OVER THE FINISH LINE FIRST.

And I will hate him for that.

But, God Bless SARAH!
