John Edwards: Wal-Mart Is Really, Really Bad Until I'm Jonesin' For a New PS3 (Update: Edwards Acknowledges Gaffe)
Posted by: Mary Katharine Ham at 4:47 PM

John-Boy, you make us proud down in the Tar Heel State.

I just got a hilarious Wal-Mart press release. Looks like the handsomest Senator has fallen victim to the siren song of low, low prices. Heaven forfend (emphasis mine)!

BENTONVILLE, Ark. – Nov. 16, 2006 – Just like the millions of Americans who turn to their neighborhood Wal-Mart for their holiday shopping needs, Wal-Mart announced today that former Sen. John Edwards is seeking to be one of the first to get a Sony PlayStation3, one of the most coveted holiday gift items this Christmas season.

Yesterday, a staff person for former Sen. Edwards contacted a Wal-Mart electronics manager in Raleigh, North Carolina to obtain a Sony PlayStation3 on behalf of the Senator's family. Later that night, Sen. Edwards reportedly re-told a homespun story to participants of a United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) union-sponsored call about how his son had chided a fellow student for purchasing shoes at Wal-Mart.

Surely you can't mean this John Edwards, who was "on the campaign trail again, this time against Wal-Mart?"

Nor this John Edwards, pictured at a Wakeup Wal-Mart Rally in Pittsburgh in August:

The picture's blurry, but I'm pretty sure that's him.

"Change Wal-Mart," huh? If Wal-Mart operated the way liberals want it to, it wouldn't be the place to go for millions of Americans for everything from groceries to game consoles. They love the low prices just like John Edwards does, and there's nothing wrong with that. I'm happy to see the former Senator coming around, though I hope he doesn't think he's using his status to jump his fellow Americans in this line. Wal-Mart says "no" to that:

The Company noted the PlayStation3 is an extremely popular item this Christmas season, and while the rest of America's working families are waiting patiently in line, Senator Edwards wants to cut to the front. While, we cannot guarantee that Sen. Edwards will be among one of the first to obtain a PlayStation3, we are certain Sen. Edwards will be able to find great gifts for everyone on his Christmas list – many at Wal-Mart's "roll-back prices."

Somebody better tell Wakeup Wal-Mart before they schedule another Townhall meeting with him.

And, Mr. Edwards, you come back now, ya hear?

Update: Edwards acknowledges the call came from an Edwards volunteer, claims he knew nothing about it.

EDWARDS AND WALMART
Are all the readers of this site totally lacking in common sense, or are comments that don't agree with the twisted "logic" of this stupid article filtered out?

Think about it. Would someone with the political savvy of Edwards have one of his employees use his name to try to get a silly game from Walmart? He would have to know it would get out and the conservative propaganda machine would have a field day.

No politician is that stupid, even a total moron like Bush. Anyone that says Edwards would do such a thing either lacks common sense or is selling something to others who are too ignorant and totally blinded to any logic that goes against their bigoted ideas to see how stupid the comments are.

Frankly, merely pushing the idea that ANY politician, liberal, conservative, or whatever, would do something like this places the credibility of this site in doubt. I don't care much for Edwards, but I hate those who twist the truth to match their own agendas far more. This site is useless for anyone who is looking for facts rather than a bunch of emotional garbage. It is the cyber equivalent of a checkout stand periodical.

Do you cover alien abductions, too? Anyone that would believe this stuff would believe about anything.

Hypocrisy
Typical liberal hump. "Do as I say, not as I do."

The fact that this story made the news..
seems to belie the story of the poor walmart employee. The staffer was probably talking to one of john kerry's *underachievers* who knew exactly what to do...report it up the chain and thank god walmart had the guts to fight back and pubicize this...many companies would have sent him the playstation as *protection* and never made it public. Good for Walmart!! I heard on my local newscast that he actually also requested not only to be in the head of the line but wanted it for free...that may or may not be true...but it makes sense.

and of course...When Billary was running for president oh those many years ago...Walmart was Arkansas' claim to fame. Seems Mrs. Clinton thought serving on its board of directors was really helpful to her husband's career in Arkansas politics. I will not suggest that there was any *impropriety* involved with that connection such as lubricating some campaign coffers...but...seems a bit like the Clintons are biting the cow that fed them. I'm shocked...shocked...just like all of the rest of the Arkansas *trash* they threw out along the way.

More on Wal-Gate
Additional questions about the John Edwards Wal-Gate scandal: Why did Edwards use a paid staff member for personal business? How could he not know she was making the call to Wal-Mart--does he suggest she spontaneously tried to get his kid a toy on his behalf, without his knowing about it? Was that call government-funded, during government-working time?

John Edwards
Isn't it funny that every time a politician goofs up it is always a staffer who made the mistake and the politician "didn't know anything about it?" I had to laugh when I read that John Edwards "didn't know anything about it." Thank God for Wal-Mart and other discount stores. I'm a single mom & I shop at Wal-Mart alot - gotta save those pennies!!!

This guy is despised in NC. If it were not for his wife, I am sure he would be tarred and feathered and ridden out of town on a rail.

I have only one point to make: The guy went to NC State for his undergrad, and then got his law degree at Chapel Hill! If he could do that, it is easy to believe this guy could be on the payroll of Al Qaeda :-P

As a proud North Carolina native, I can tell you we are NOT proud of this sleazebag. You can have him if you want him. Please! ;)

The horrible thing about Wal-Mart...
...is that the unions can't get enough employees to vote to join the unions! HORRORS!!!

I've been over the other beefs about Wal-Mart, and still haven't gotten an argument that makes sense.

I'm confused
Whats wrong with Wal-mart again ? This is one of those "issues" that democrats have that I absolutely cannot understand.

Stop! Or I will sue again!
It would seen The Breck Girl with The Dainty Hands got caught with his hands in the cooke jar again. I hope it does not break one of his carefully files fingernails.

Shortly after The Channeling Lawyer was elected in 1998, there was a joke in NC that Iowa had 3 Senators and North Carolina had one. Seeing that Edwards spent 99% of his time in Des Moines and the surrounding areas trying to schmooze the Hawkeyes with his grease.

The guy is such a lightweight that a belch by Michael Moore would send him into outer space, en route to Pluto.
Kraut writes: Friday, November, 17, 2006 1:04 AM
It's only natural
Give the guy a break. When he went to the Senate he quit earning the big bucks in law suits. He has to watch his pennies now.

Between this story and that silly video of him primping from the 2004 campaign, hopefully this dude's political career is toast.

walmart
Did I hear him say on a Fox interview yesterday how the Walmart employees were a strain on our economy? I'm thinking he meant to say illegals not Walmart employees
