McCain Wants Amendment to Protect Private Property
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 10:03 AM

The Cedar Rapids Gazette Online reports:

Without private property, there can be no freedom, according to presidential hopeful John McCain, who Monday promised a Cedar Rapids audience he would be willing to sponsor a constitutional amendment to protect private property owners from government takings.

Here's an idea for McCain
Why doesn't he back a constitutional amendment that would guarantee the right to free political speech!
soothsayer writes: Tuesday, August, 07, 2007 8:31 PM
Yes, exactly
You're right, Bartley - thats why all mccain is doing is stirring up the yahoos. Its merely this season's twist on protecting the flag, English as official language, or defending marriage from those icky gay people.

I mean, how hard is it to confuse people who think a Supreme Court decision trumps the U.S. Constitution?
soothsayer writes: Tuesday, August, 07, 2007 1:32 PM
I'll take that as a "no"
Good little neocon... the rules don't apply to you.

There's no point. Soothjessicasayerlange is an ignorant troll. She could care less how right or wrong she is, she just wants to argue for the sake of arguing if you're a conservative. It's a psychological issue. When people hate so much, they just can't control it. She hates you, me and every other conservative here. If you haven't noticed, she does nothing else but take pop-shots at people here. There is nothing added except bigotry, hatred and ignorance. But she makes a good case study for those indoctrinated by far-leftist hate groups. Personally I feel she also does this because she becomes the center of attention. As she has done yet again.

Funny coming from someone who has not heard of the Kelo vs. City of New London decision.

Kelo vs City of New London
When you decide to put the bong down, take a walk to your campus or local library and look up Kelo vs. City of New London. While you are at it check out other eminent domain abuses. Even most liberals I know are appalled by this decision and were unaware how widespread government abuse of eminent domain is.

That is what McCain is trying to stop. How would you like it if your parents house was taken for "the greater good?" You would have to find a new basement to smoke pot.

amendment to ban John McCain ?

I have to concur with Juandos; I want Constitutional protection from the encroachment of John McCain's policies.

Of course, private property IS the bedrock of freedom, but where was McCain on the Bush tax cuts ?
And if McCain truly believes in the importance of private property, why does McCain still support the inheritance tax, which unfairly punishes the transfer of private property from one generation to the next ?

If one can't keep the government out of one's pocket, how can one AFFORD to purchase private property ?

At the very least, we'll ban John McCain from being the GOP nominee.

Even with a bong in my hand I know that a Supreme Court decision doesn't revoke the Constitution.

Trust me on this... actually believing what rush limbaugh and fox news tell you will always make you look stupid.
BG writes: Tuesday, August, 07, 2007 11:21 AM
Alone
McCain can't carry this alone. Anytime John McCain takes up an issue the legislation that comes out of it does just the opposite of what he says it is going to do.

Romney and Rudy need to weigh in on this. Thompson is a lobbyist so he is worse than McCain on this issue.
juandos writes: Tuesday, August, 07, 2007 11:11 AM
how about some protection from McCain?
McCain - Keating scandal

McCain - Gang of 14

McCain - Torture ban

McCain - pandering to terrorist towel heads

McCain
Pretty much EVERYONE was appalled by the Kelo vs City of New London. No matter who you plan to vote for in the Presidential election, you should support McCain on this issue.
BG writes: Tuesday, August, 07, 2007 10:57 AM
Playing politics
McCain is playing politics but that is not bad. He can interject some good issues into the campaign. This one may help Reps against Dems, especially Cliinton with her collectivists big government ideas. It may be wise for other candidates to pick up on this issue.
Black Prince writes: Tuesday, August, 07, 2007 10:55 AM
The same McCain???
Is this the same McCain that happily violated the First Amendment by joining Russ Finegold in banning any campaign speeches before an election? THAT McCain has no credibility regarding things Constitutionan in America since he has clearly demonstraited his readiness to completely disregard what is already there. THAT McCain has absolutely no standing to be telling any American anything about the Constitution. That McCain ought to go somewhere, sit down, shut up, and never be heard from again.

Who cares what THAT McCain thinks, says or does? We know what he thinks about the Constitution. IT SUCKS so bad that he and Finegold had to change it. Now he wants to change it again? HORSEPUCKY!!!

Put down the bong and get out of your parents basement or dorm room.

Have not you heard of the Supreme Court Eminent Domain decision in Kelo vs City of New London? In which Justice John Paul Stevens wrote the majority opinion; he was joined by Justices Anthony Kennedy, David Souter, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer.

McCain is finally sponsoring legislation I support!

Interesting...
Apparently mccain is either unfamiliar with the Fifth Amendment, or he's just trying to stir up the yahoos. Neither one reflects well on his character or leadership qualities.
