http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2007/06/29/brownback-i-was-sending-message-with-vote-switch/
"The Kansas Republican initially voted in favor of cloture, or keeping the bill alive, during the pivotal Thursday roll call. But 15 minutes after he cast that vote, a flurry of opposition crystallized into 45 fatal votes against the bill and it became clear the bill was going to die. At that point, Brownback changed position.
The cloture vote ultimately would fail 46-53, 14 votes short of the 60 it needed to survive. Brownback is among 18 Senators who voted for cloture on one aspect of the bill Tuesday, but then voted against it Thursday.
He is the only senator known to change votes during the roll call."
-It appears that Brownback's vote Mitt-amorphasized in only fifteen minutes. Unlike John Kerry, Brownback actually for it before he voted against. I wonder if Brownback realizes what a feel he looks like. |
...it is easy to understand why Brownback doesn't have a ghost of a chance.
After his crass hypocrite approach to the immigration bill, Brownback needs to find a new playpen. His only purpose for being in the Presidential election is to harass Romney. Huckabee and Hunter have merit but this clown needs to join John McCain. |
It's should to read, "Regular readers will note that I've long been fascinated by the attempts of some guy named Brownback to gain political notice by attacking Governor Romney." |
Brownback's strategy is to do well in the straw poll in Ames since KS is close to IA.
However, attacking Romney is not likely to lift Brownback's fortunes. He would probably get more votes faster by going after Rudy, McCain and Thompson since they pulled out or decided not to get in.
Why he attacks Romney I am not sure but it gives him less credibility than Ron Paul. |
Is that like the New York Yankees/Sheboygan T-Ball Champions rivalry? |
Should just drop out since his campaign basically started on empty and is going downhill from there.
It's pretty bad when you raise less $ than McCain |
Great analogy. Also see: Don Garlits in Swamp Rat 14 vs. my mother in her minivan. |

Matt Lewis,
I enjoy humorous, light-hearted, and off-topic blog posts as much as the next Townhall reader, but Eichendorff is right, this Brownback press release is pretty tacky.
Matt, it's no secret that you resent Mitt Romney. I suppose when you wrote the other day that you identify more with the kids who sit in the back of the class and shoot spitwads, this Brownback press release must be right up your alley.
The Presidential election is not a casting call to be the obnoxious kid in a remake of "Saved By the Bell,"---if it were, Johnny $400 Haircut would defeat Brownback for that role---rather, this is a casting call for the starring role which demands one step into the shoes of Churchill, FDR, Truman, Kennedy, Golda Meir, Reagan, Thatcher, and John Bolton in a remake of what was at stake during WW2 (and the Cold War)---the future of democracy.
After all, there are some really evil people who wish to kill us in the name of Islamic Jihad.
I just can't remember the last time Brownback ever shot spitwads at Islamic Jihad. And I can't even remember the last time Matt Lewis blogged about Islamic Jihad.
Maybe news of Jihad hasn't reached Matt or Brownback there in...Sheboygan ! |

And Brownback is who again? |
Apparently, in Brownback's puny, pathetic little mind, changing one's position on abortion is a real problem, but flip-flopping on the Global War on Terror, as the roundheel from Kansas is doing, is considered principled?
As far as I'm concerned, Brownback is as unprincipled as they come. I hope Kansas dumps this idiot. |

AP writer Glen Johnson apparently thinks whatever the Democrats send him in a press release on Mitt is "news" as do you with "Brownback." I know it's in jest somewhat and it's fun to see candidates go at it...it's just more interesting to see others in the media be manipulated by PR hacks. Their job is justified when people like you mention it. Like most people on here...who is Brownback and who is he to talk?
The AP is supposed to have some credibility in reporting stories but hey..let's just print whatever the DNC sends us. We're not a biased media organization so long as we only report on whatever a biased political organization puts out. To me...it's just lazy journalism. I know it happens everyday...but it's one thing if Glen Johnson went out and did the grunt work and then went back to Romney for his POV. But he didn't. Instead he takes a "hit" piece from a purely biased DNC and puts it in print...which is of course syndicated nationally. And they can claim it's balanced by putting in a sentence from Romney's campaign manager at the end. It's crappy journalism and not because I support Romney..I don't care who the candidate is. |
Please answer this:
Who here is a Romney supporter??? Why don't you name all the ones here who are going to vote for Romney in the primary. Since you seem to know so much about everyone here. |
adj. - cowardly changing your vote when your position has been defeated. |
What is FlipBack complaining about? |
With a name like Brownback, he's not really in any position to be making fun of people's names. He should do the Republican party the service of dropping out of the race.
I actually liked Brownback until I saw this. Why would one Republican pick up blown-out-of- proportion leftist attack points to use against another Republican? Brownback definitely does not deserve consideration unless he fires his campaign BOZO and apologizes to Romney.
...I can't believe Brownback would do that. Is he scared of Romney or something? If he thinks this cheap 'attack' stunt will help his numbers and move him up to the first tier, he's wrong. Personally, I think he's going to be eating those words; not just because of his wobbly stance on immigration, but also because of I believe that Romney will get the nomination. Say what you want to about Romney, but he has what it takes to win the Republican primary. |
We used to do this kind of humor back in junior high . . . Brownback has great potential to be a Mad magazine writer when his political career comes crashing down. |
That Brownback converted from being a Methodist to being a Catholic -- while he was a Senator, no less. To me, that is a mittamorphisis of the highest order.
As a conservative Republican, I'm sorry to see Brownback stoop to this level of attack. He does neither himself, Romney, nor the Republican cause any good by this. Changing religions is a pretty major step. I would think he could accommodate someone else changing their views, after thoughtful consideration.
One thing I like about Romney: He has only attacked others errant policies, not them personally. |

Definition:
brownback (transitive verb) -- to hurl petty insults at one who possesses superior skill in some field such as managing a business, lowering taxes while balancing a state budget, organizing a political campaign, behaving like a grown up, or appearing Presidential.
Etymology:
In the mid-nineteenth century, a Kansas farmer lost a footrace to nine opponents due to having gotten stuck in ankle-deep mud at the starting line of the race. Angered and embarrassed by his own incompetence, he threw mud at the back of the man he had felt certain to beat, giving the man a "brown back."
Usage:
Consumed by envy, Salieri brownbacked Mozart who wrote superior concertos and operas.
Rather than showing good sportsmanship, the pouting tennis player brownbacked his victorious competitor with crass insults about everything from his hairstyle to his religion.
Related words:
pettiness, childishness, foolishness

brownback should worry more about his own morphes and flip flops like how he voted for the amnesty bill before he voted against it and then lied straight up about.
or even better, how he voted against teh stem cell bill but added a part in the appropriations bill that would provide more stem cell funding for a university in kansas.
talk about flip flopper. can't stand this guy. who would ever elect a whiner for president. i guess desperate times call for desperate attacks. |
This is a shame. I use to have alot of respect for Brownback but he is showing he has no class what so ever. His camp has already released some very bigoted remarks about Mormons which Sam denounced after it went public, and after stuff like this comes it makes me think that he was behind the bigoted comments too. |

You must have a pretty bizarre and warped sense of humor.
