A Disaster: The GOP Caves On Border Security
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 6:32 PM

Word is leaking that the GOP in the Senate are on the verge of agreeing to an immigration bill that has --as a concession to the GOP-- less than half of the fencing promised by law last year.

White flag time on the border, and a national security and thus a political disaster.

The GOP are sending around talking points attempting to make this "compromise" defensible, but it won't and shouldn't fly.  Agreeing to it takes the party down the tubes on the issue of border security --because it doesn't provide what the public understands to be border security, a very long, very high fence with a very wide gate.

This is McCain's continuing gift to the GOP, and the immigration absolutists' legacy: Lots and lots of promises and no fence worth calling a fence.

Aren't there 41 GOP senators willing to fight for border security?  Apparently not.  And they will see the result in their depleted coffers and diminished numbers come November '08.  All they have to do is fight for border security, but they won't even do that.

UPDATE: Here are the draft talking points from the GOP.  Four pages of crap:

BORDER SECURITY AND IMMIGRATION REFORM

Republicans Standing Together to Fight for Tougher Enforcement and an Immigration System That Better Serves American Interests

As negotiations continue, Republicans are demanding the following from the Democrat majority:

v Beefed-up border security. Republicans are insisting on dramatic and immediate improvements to border security, including 18,000 Border Patrol agents and 370 miles of fencing, as part of a continuous effort to protect the borders.

  1. Republicans insist that border security improvements must be completed before other reforms can occur. Democrats blocked any "triggers" in last year’s bill.

v Enforcement at the workplace. Republicans are insisting on a meaningful, effective, and workable electronic employment verification system that will prevent employers from hiring illegal workers and eliminate the "magnet" that attracts so many illegal aliens.

  1. ?? This verification system must be fully operational before other reforms occur (another "trigger"), a position Democrats rejected last year and have resisted in negotiations.

v Merit-based future immigration system and end to "chain migration." Republicans are insisting on eliminating "chain migration" and transforming our immigration system so that all future efforts are focused on attracting those immigrants (and their immediate, nuclear families) who have the combination of job skills, education, and English language proficiency that will make them productive Americans.

  1. ?? The Democrat majority has resisted any effort to ensure that our immigration system be rebalanced to serve national needs and still clings to a broken "chain migration" system that does not serve the national interest.

v A truly temporary worker program. Republicans insist that a temporary worker program be for a limited period of time and not serve as a path to citizenship. Temporary workers must truly be temporary.

  1. ?? The Democrat majority continues to resist this approach, seeking to let "temporary" workers stay in the United States indefinitely and become permanent residents without going home.

v Strict limits on processing of illegal aliens. Majority-party Democrats made legalization of illegal aliens a non-negotiable priority, but Republicans refused to allow automatic amnesty or a guaranteed path to citizenship for illegal aliens. Republicans insist that all green card applicants must (1) go to the back of the line behind those who have followed the law, (2) pay higher fines than in last year’s bill, (3) pass a criminal background check, (4) show a nearly perfect work history, English proficiency, and familiarity with American civics. If they cannot do so, they will be subject to removal. Republicans also insist that access to permanent status be prioritized based on immigrants’ job skills, education, and English proficiency. Illegal aliens will not gain an automatic right to stay in this country indefinitely.

  1. ?? Democrats wanted last year’s permissive Senate bill, which allowed illegal aliens to jump to the front of the line and did not require illegal aliens to continue to work.

DRAFT 5/16/07

Border Security Guaranteed by Republican Efforts

  1. • Republicans have championed greater border enforcement in order to better protect us against terrorist, drug smuggling, human trafficking, and illegal immigration.
  2. • Republicans insisted on the following enforcement measures in this bill before any other reforms (including a temporary worker program or adjustment of status for illegal aliens) are implemented:
    1. ? 18,000 border patrol and immigration enforcement agents must be hired.
    2. ? 370 miles of border fencing must be built.
    3. ? 200 miles of vehicle barriers must be completed.
    4. ? 70 ground-based radar and camera towers on the southern border must be operational.
    5. ? 4 Unmanned Aerial Vehicles must be deployed.
    6. ? 27,500 detention beds must be available so that apprehended aliens can be detained.

  3. Triggers: Republicans have insisted that all of the above improvements to border security be implemented before any additional reforms can take place. If they do not occur, then there will be no temporary worker program or movement on a path to citizenship for illegal aliens. Democrats vigorously resisted triggers such as these in last year’s bill.

Republicans Bolstered Workplace Enforcement

  1. • Republicans know that border security is not enough: we must also eliminate the opportunities for illegal workers to be hired in the United States.
  2. • The bill will create an Electronic Employment Verification System ("EEVS") so only legal workers can get jobs.
  3. • Once the EEVS is in place (the administration predicts 18 months), illegal aliens without the right to work will find it extremely difficult to gain any legitimate employment.
  4. • Illegal workers not only will be subject to removal from the country but will be permanently barred from any U.S. immigration program.
  5. • Employers who knowingly hire illegal workers will face stiff penalties.
  6. Another Trigger: Republicans also insisted that this new EEVS be fully operational before reforms such as the temporary worker program or status adjustment for illegal aliens occur. Democrats vigorously resisted any effort to make an operational EEVS a precondition for other reforms.

DRAFT 5/16/07 3

Republicans Successfully Demanded an Immigration System Based on Merit

  1. • Republicans are insisting on eliminating "chain migration" and transforming our immigration system into one based on qualification and merit.
  2. • Due to Republican demands and over Democrat objections, the bill will require all future immigrants to qualify based on merit through a "point system."
  3. • The main components of the merit-based "point system" will be
    1. ? job skills deemed helpful to the U.S. economy;
    2. ? level of educational attainment (with added points for science/math); and
    3. ? degree of English language proficiency.

  4. • The impact of this new merit-based "point system" will be to ensure entry and permanent residence to those with higher levels of education and professional qualifications.
    1. ? Currently, only 20 percent of immigrants are admitted based on merit; the remainder gain permanent residence due to some form of familial relation.
    2. ? All new immigrants will still be able to bring their immediate families (spouses and minor children), but other relatives will need to qualify under the point system.

  5. • This end to "chain migration," which allows migration of extended family members who cannot show they will benefit to America, is a significant Republican victory.

Republicans Guaranteed a Truly Temporary Worker Program

  1. • Republicans know that American businesses have labor needs that the American workforce does not always satisfy, so they support a temporary worker program that will ensure that ample workers exist to fill those jobs.
  2. • But Republicans have insisted that a temporary worker program should be temporary, and that it should not provide a direct path to citizenship.
  3. • Workers will be able to enter the country for two years, working for an employer who has demonstrated that no American is available to fill the position.
    1. ? The worker must leave after two years and cannot renew for at least one year.
    2. ? A temporary worker can work for a total of three separate two-year terms, with one year out of the country between each term. (The rationale is to prevent temporary workers from establishing roots and refuse to leave when their term is completed.)
    3. ? All temporary workers will be able to travel freely to and from their home countries.

  4. • Temporary workers must return home after their work period expires. Failure to depart on time will result in criminal penalties and a permanent bar on participating in any U.S. immigration programs, i.e., the worker could never gain an American green card.
  5. • Republicans’ insistence on "temporary means temporary" will protect American workers and maintain the integrity of the U.S. immigration system.

DRAFT 5/16/07 4

Republicans Ensured Limits on Legalization of Existing Illegal Population

  1. • Democrats made clear that no bill would pass without a provision to allow illegal aliens to gain citizenship, and pledged to hold hostage all border security and interior enforcement improvements.
  2. • In response, Republicans united to block automatic amnesty and guarantee that strict limits be imposed on those illegal aliens who wish to become American citizens.
  3. • Due solely to Republican efforts, illegal aliens will not gain an automatic right to stay in this country indefinitely.
  4. • Republican demands guaranteed the following:
    1. o First, Republicans insisted that illegal aliens should not be permitted even to apply for permanent residence unless he or she can demonstrate:
    2. ? a nearly uninterrupted work history, i.e., the worker (head of household) must show that he or she has been employed for 90 percent of the previous four years;
    3. ? a proven proficiency in English; and
    4. ? an education in American civics.
    5. ? If an illegal alien cannot demonstrate this work history, proficiency in English, and education in American civics, then he or she will not earn the right to permanent residency and will be subject to deportation and will be permanently barred from the U.S.A.
    6. o Second, Republicans insisted that all illegal aliens seeking permanent residence must get in line behind the legal applicants for permanent residence who did not enter the country illegally. And they must return home to make the formal application.
    7. o Third, Republicans insisted on higher penalties and fees that illegal aliens must pay in order to remain in the country, and also demanded that illegal aliens pay all back taxes they may owe.

  5. • Many illegal aliens will never clear these tough hurdles and will be subject to removal. And because of the tough new workplace enforcement mechanisms, they will not be able to be employed in any legitimate business enterprise.
  6. • If Republicans had not fought for these limits, Democrats would have passed an automatic amnesty bill without any of the restrictions that Republicans have now guaranteed.

What about the water?
Did any of the Native Americans you saw ask you to leave their country? Because we kind of, sort of stole it from them a few hundred years back.

Also, should we build a fence around the Gulf Coast and the entire length of the West Coast as well? What did Patton say about man-made fortifications?

What do those fast food jobs pay? What is minimum wage in your state? Can you now see why those jobs attract newer immigrants?

If you are against the raising of the minimum wage - a GOP line in the sand for years - you are part of the problem. The jobs are not too tough for Americans, but the wages they pay do not cut it (look at food, gas, healthcare prices). So that is why they go to these newer popultions.

It is as simple as 1-2-3...

1) KEEP WAGES LOW
2) ELIMINATE WORKER BENEFITS
3) KEEP THE FLOW OF PEOPLE WILLING TO ACCEPT THIS SCENARIO IN PLENTIFUL SUPPLY (EVEN IF ILLEGALLY)

And vilifying unions never hurts. This is not an accident! As long as Wal Mart and our credit card companies can provide cheap crap & the means to purchase it we'll have an "American" who thinks that they are living a prosperous lifestyle.

And how do you know all of those Hispanics at your mall are illegal?

Immigration
Dear Rep Kline and Senator Coleman,

As the details of the "new" immigration bill continue to leak out, I would like to share little observation about Minnesota, The White House and the Great Wall of China.

I moved to Minnesota in January of 2000. As one of the things one does in the winter is to go to the Mall of America (MOA). Having moved from Corpus Christi, TX, the first thing I observed was that I saw American Indians in the crowds at the MOA. Not Hispanics, but American Indians with their jet black hair. Seven years later, when I go to the MOA, I cannot see the American Indians, but I can clear see all of the Hispanics. When I moved here in 2000, non-Hispanics worked the McDonalds, Wendy's, Taco Bells, etc. Now, seven years later, Hispanics now fill the fast food industry jobs at all of the business I frequent. Just like Corpus Christi, TX.

The White House, the residence of the US President, has a tall fence around it.

The Great Wall of China is over 5000 kilometers long. The US - Mexico border is little over 3000 kilometers. The Great Wall of China is on average 25 feed tall, with watch towers adding another 14 for a total of 39 feet of height. The Great Wall of China was built with hand tools. BUILD THE DAMN FENCE.

If you should vote to support the current "new immigration" bill, I will support your opponent in the Republican primaries with time and money - since you are voting to give my tax dollars away. BUILD THE DAMN FENCE.

If a fence is good enough for the US President, a fence for the US citizens is good too. BUILD THE DAMN FENCE. If you cannot figure this out, you have been in Washington DC too long for your own good. You need to be retired from office and see what has changed in Minnesota, the state you swore to represent.

Signed, an over taxed employed citizen of the US and Minnesota.

P.S. I have lived in the poorest county in Texas - Duval. I have earned a PhD through the hard work of my family and myself. I am half Hispanic, so do not call me a racist. I have the original wedding certificate of my great grand parents from the state of Texas, Duval County, signed 28 November 1887, printed in Spanish on display in my living room. There is a difference between a racist and someone wanting security for his family and country. I know that each and every Senator and Representative in Washington DC have a large fence around their property. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH A FENCE. BUILD THE DAMN FENCE.

Again, your party leaders are thrilled!
Look at who contributes to the campaigns. I guarantee that Brownback is supported greatly by the meat packing industry in Western Kansas. I am betting that such an industry needs lots of low-paid, no benefit workers - and since the job is so tough and turnover so high they need a large pool of them to comensate for high turnover.

The GOP will vote for big business on this one, ignoring our concerns. Why? Because they know you'll vote for whatever GOP presidential candidate is up there. Reagan could return and run against W tomorrow and W would win.

Face it, the conservative movement ended in 1988 with Reagan. The party is now all about big business and religion. They could not care less about anything else because the current paradign gets them (a) vast financing and (b) a dependable bloc of votes. Then they get elected and do whatever they want.

Message to "Take Back the Government"
As a dual American and Irish citizen I would say this - how can I help you secede? Please, go. Look at where federal tax dollars go - they leave the NE and W blue states and go to the red ones. You could not pull it off financially without becoming a second world nation. But maybe you want that. Just know that the federal gravy train would stop.

Also, you would hate Ireland - your brand of intolerance would not play well there. Maybe you should try France - as that nation has a proven ability to put up with ignorant, hateful adults who act like children.

And stop talking about taking on the Northeast USA, as history dictates that such a sceanrio goes very badly for you. It's just embarassing.

Ultimately, you sound a lot like Osama Bin Laden in your post. How does it feel to be kindred spirits with that guy? You must have been thrilled on 9/11 when NYC got attacked - cuz that's liberal territory, right?

After the GOP is Smashed...
we'll learn of the lucrative congressional lobbying positions and corporate board appointments the GOP Congressmen and Senators will take with their buddies in Corporate America who will be paying them back for sacrificing their political careers for a big money payback job with Corporate America. THIS IS CRIMINAL AND DESPICABLE, but mark my words, this is status-quo in DC - S.N.A.F.U.

The GOP will be smashed in 2008
if they persist with supporting AMNESTY and TREASON. Apparently, they have completely misinterpreted the results of November 2006 to their peril. We always expect the TREASONOUS Democrats to be out of touch with America, but to see this in the GOP is indicative that most members of the GOP are just former Democrats themselves who changed parties around the time of Reagan. So be it; our national sovereignty is now in God's hands. We really need a 3rd party in America; the era of two-party government must come to a close when the two parties can no longer distinguish themselves from each other.

This legislation is MORE BUREAUCRACY
What no one has addressed yet is that this legislation is creating a needless monstrosity of a bureaucracy to deal with immigration if it passes - another senseless abuse of our tax dollars and our sovereignty by the completely out-of-touch, bought-off lawyer class in DC that lords over us like King George III. Political Revolution just may be the only solution to so much political pollution if this TREASON is allowed to stand.

IT IS TREASON!!!
What part do we have of being involved in TREASON against America??? That is what this apostate government in DC is doing, and that is what WE are doing by continuing to support these traitors. Our elected Congressmen, Senators, and President are committing TREASON against the very government they pretend to support. The State governments of the Red States need to step up to the plate now with the threat of Articles of Secession from the Federal government instead of continuing to make excuses for TREASON. It is our ONLY last stand other than legal challenge in the US Supreme Court against this legislation that so overtly denies US sovereignty and spits in the face of our Constitution. Corporate America has bought off these politicians COMPLETELY. It is only a mater of time before this legislation passes and subsequent investigations uncover corrupt Corporate payoffs of politicians for their votes on this TREASON. BY then, Corporate America will have gotten just what it wanted; the damage will have been done. Secession may very well be our only hope. Red-State Governors should be gearing up right now to lead the charge for Secession in their respective State legislatures. They should be flooding the airways of talk radio and tv with talk of Secession if this TREASON stands. Acting like a GOP pantywaist will not cut the mustard anymore. Desperate times have always called for desperate measures.
Take Back the Government writes: Friday, May, 18, 2007 2:34 AM
The Seeds of Revolution are Growing
The hinterlands have their eyes all over DC. Secession is not far off if this legislation passes. The American People of Red-State America will make ourselves known in widespread protests, the likes of which DC hasn't seen since the Equal Rights Amendment. We will march to DC and demand the overthrow of this apostate government that no longer recognizes OUR Constitution. The GOP may be a bunch of incompetent, spineless, limp-wristed, Northeastern-Liberal, pantywaist, mama's boys, but the true patriotic American-loving, non-testosterone-challenged, Constitution-loving, law-abiding, ex-military and current military Ultra-Conservatives will put the Federal government on notice, that we intend to push for Secession from such an incompetent government in DC if this legislation stands. When DC "thumps" us, we will thump DC back with protests at our state houses to push for Secession. If nothing else works, well, I'm heading to Ireland myself because America will be finished; when Hillary gets elected, the terrorists will all know it's open-season in early 2009. They're just chomping at the bit right now waiting patiently for the day. If the GOP caves here, they will see the writing all over the wall. It will be their green light signal to go ahead with their bombing plans for early 2009 on American soil.

This just Demonstrates the Problem
Hugh has shown the line-by-line analysis of a problem that was long-since dealt with years ago with legislation ALREADY ON THE BOOKS!!! Our Congressmen and Senators are making a problem out of no problem at all if our federal government actually enforced the laws already on the books. They are wasting our tax money talking about already established law that has already solved the problem. If Conservatives in the GOP really want to grow a spine, they should push for Secession from a Federal government that no longer seeks to abide by its own Constitution and its own laws. This Union must be DISSOLVED if it cannot even abide by its own laws. What obligation do Red States have to a Liberal Federal government that no longer recognizes the document - the very Constitution by which the States all entered into this UNION in the first place? THINK ABOUT IT!!! If the GOP caves and who are we kidding here - we all know they will - they always do, True Conservatives who still love this country should push for Secession from this Union just as the Southern States, Texas, and New Mexico did prior to and during the Civil War. Conservative Red State legislatures all across the South and the West should immediately propose articles of Secession from the union in their state houses. WE MUST TAKE A VERY LOUD DEMONSTRATIVE STAND AGAINST THIS UNBRIDLED CRIMINAL ILLEGAL ANTI-CONSTITUTIONAL LIBERAL MADNESS.

Border Patrol/Enforcing the Border
What good is enforcing the border? When our border patrol officers try to stop a,repeat offender, drug runner, they end up in prison along with illegal alien thugs !?! I'm sort of rude and crude....no fence, just stategically placed land mines with warning signs only in English. Then go after the employers who hire the illegals and ENFORCE the LAWS already on the books, as some here have already stated. What I don't understand is why "We" make our law enforcement officers look the other way and not ask for proof of citizenship when catching law breakers. If they are here illegally, they are breaking the law and need to be deported. I'm new at this political stuff...I'm embarrassed of those in Washington... they make our whole country look like bumbling idiots to the rest of the world. I learned what "Bleeding Heart Liberal" meant after 9/11 and am shocked at the "Lily Livers" in charge of our country that my late father fought for in WWII. I guess it'll be "TOO LITTLE TOO LATE" once we experience a couple of mushroom clouds on OUR soil. But then again, the illegals will either take over here or run tail back where they came from....Hmmmm

FROM DA KING

Sen. Isakson and Sen. Chambliss stand with Kennedy for largest amnesty in history

DEAR GEORGIANS,

Your two Senators stood at the press conference this afternoon and lent their support to the worst immigration bill in history — and there have been some disastrous ones.

After months of promising the voters of Georgia that they would never participate in full legalization of the 12-20 million illegal aliens, these two Senators are embracing a bill that will allow more than 98% of them to remain in your communities and job markets forever.

And your Senators didn’t even get the trigger they talked so much about. Rosemary Jenks is reading the bill and says that there are loopholes that allow the full amnesty whether or not any additional enforcement measures are ever implemented. In fact, the enforcement sections are as riddled with loopholes as the 1986 amnesty, Rosemary says.

Sen. Isakson and Sen. Chambliss have been played as fools by Pres. Bush and Sen. Kennedy.

Their embarrassment would be greatly reduced if you can persuade them to vote NO next Monday.

The state of Georgia and the good citizens of Georgia are being used as the primary props to try to convince the nation that this bill will end illegal immigration and do what is best for the American people.

It is in your hands whether Sen. Chambliss and Sen. Isakson will be allowed to continue to represent you in this way.

Presidenté Bush praised the Senate for a bipartisan agreement on amnesty. That is because traitors like McCain and other RINOs sided with the Dems. I will find out who these RINOs are. They will hear it from the voters in the next election. I have my suspicions who they are. McCain, Snow, Collin, Specter, Hagel for sure.

To answer your question on how the measure can be blocked with a majority Dem House, Republicans in the House are much more in tune with the American people than the Senate. Once a Senator goes to Washington, he no longer listens to the voters. That is not the case with the House. The House has backed the people when it comes to illegal immigration, including a substantial number of Democrats. That is because congressmen represent their districts, not the entire state. All a Senator needs for re-election is to get the large urban votes, who are more liberal than the rest of the state. For instance, although Michigan is a liberal state, representative John Dingell has consistently backed the NRA. With such a small margin in the House, just a few votes from the Dems will result in a majority vote, providing the Republicans stick together.

True Republicans ARE responsible for it
I am amazed that people are still surprised by this. The GOP is the party that (openly and proudly) carries the standard of business interests, along with its other constituencies. The immigration issue is one where, for the most part, the GOP votes on the side of big industry -agriculture and others who require cheap labor with no benefits.

The problem here is that we have so many business owners willing to skirt the law to save on the bottom line. And to keep wages low. If this pool of labor dried up, Americans WOULD do these tough jobs - but would demand a living wage to do so.

That is the issue, plain and simple. But none of us knows how to process the true dimensions of the dilemma because it cannot be cast as a wedge issue between liberals and conservatives. It has become too easy to pick from Box A (lib) or Box B (conservative) on the issues of the day. We've lost the ability to think.

How many of you, writing about the end of the Republicn party, have sent actual money to either Duncan Hunter or Tom Tancredo so they can carry on the fight against the illegals? It is one thing to spend 5 minutes at the keyboard and quite another to get into the fight with some of your own money. Do you think that George Bush reads, or cares about these blogs? Wake up; nobody in government cares what you, as an individual, think about any issue. This incoming tide of cheap labor has been bought and paid for with political contributions from the groups that profit from cheap labor.

Who gets my vote?
I am like a dog following the scent of a female in heat. I am zeroed in on the immigration issue. The man or woman who is dead serious, with double talk, about stopping illegal immigration cold gets my vote. It does not matter if the candidate is a Democrat or Republican. That goes for local, state and national elections. Hint to me amnesty, you are out. Mention guest worker, you are out. Use PC phrases like undocumented workers, you are out. Suggest to me that illegals should be eligible for social security, you are out. You get tough on illegal immigration and you have my vote. I’ve had it with the GOP!

Hugh is baiting
methinks he has unleashed a firestorm here, and having used very few facts... "word is leaking"... "on the verge"...
This smacks of rumor mongering actually. These are statements he'll never have to back up because they're drawn from snapshots in time during a debate/discussion.
And the word leaking has to do with the size of the fence, not any of the other issues. Is the sky really falling?
I think many of you have over-reacted to Hugh's irresponsible border-baiting.

Border control
I love it that you Republicans are screeching over the borders. It is a losing situation for your party. You are alienating the largest ethnic party in our country. Some of you say oh hispanics want border control too, but not in the same hysterical, racist way that many in the republican party insist upon. Border Fence, what a stupid idea! Keep it up though, it is just cementing the republicans as the party of intolerance yet again.

Here is a place to start
The Senators listed below are key to stopping Reid and Amnesty legislation. They voted in 2006 to bring the illegal alien amnesty bill to a floor vote so they could play "moderate" on the record with a "yes" vote for "inclusion". Then they covered themselves with the Republican base and tried to recover their "anti-amnesty" image by voting NO on passage of the bill, well aware that the legislation would fail and that their NO vote was just political tail-covering...

What can we do
Flood the White House with emails; make at least (5) calls a day to a specific list of politicians & media outlets; dedicate (1) hour a day to this cause and don't let up for any reasons; believe in the cause and go after it with a committed effort.

Bush is an Internationalist... I don't know who or what is pulling his strings, but it is not the will of the people that voted Bush into office. Bush has remained solid on the war, for that I must give him much credit; however, Bush has the second most important issue of our times (illegal immigration and protection of our borders) completely wrong. Neither party wants to do anything about this issue except kick this can down the road while millions of illegals flood our cities.

My vote in 08 goes to the man who will get the (2) most important issues of our times correct. In the mean while, I'm dedicating (1) hour a day to letters and phone calls. I made my list a few months ago, and have added many to the list as new information has become available.

Losing What Makes America America

I don't believe many Americans think immigration is a threat to American culture, let alone terrorism. I've seen how 30 years of "cultural diversification" has altered Queens New York into a hodge-podge international-everything village without a common identity or real civic pride (along with mediocre school scores and budging crime rates) as was in the pre-1970s. Once your hometown culture's been altered its flavor and charm will never come back, and too many Americans don't understand this (or worst, even think it's a good thing). Maybe this apathy's because it's already happened where you are and you've thrown up your hands, or you think it won't touch and change your hometown. Better think twice America. We're performing a self-induced lobotomy here.

A Human Fence
How about a human fence? Across the entire border. Next week.

How many millions of people would it take? And wouldn't that send a message? AI'm serious, as many millions of people as we can get across the entire border for a week or more. We need to somehow send a powerful message to Washington that Americans are fed up and are seriously ready to take border security and interior enforcement into our own hands.

Any takers? Hewitt? Rush? Malkin? Help us out here because it's seriously time for serious action.

treason
It really is treason, folks. Forty years of treason. And perhaps time for drastic action. Sending the Bush peso to Washington is funny but ineffective. What about millions of us going to the border ourselves like the Minutemen, only this time with guns. Forget marching on Washinton. If they're not going to secure the border for forty fricking years, what about doing it ourselves? Seriously, how many could we get down there next week? And did they shred the 14th Amendment, or what? It was clear as day when ratified, and yet forty years of anchor babies later... What a mess.

It's time for something major by the millions of Americans who are fed up. Any other ideas. This is totally outrageous and the politicians in Washington are clueless at how much rage there is in the country over this issue.

I applaud those who sued the LAPD over Special Order 40, but it's too little too late and something a bit more vigilante is now required. Anyone out there ready to rally as many as possible next week? How could we get millions of folks on the border the way they got millions in the streets of our cities last May 1?

What enrages me is the way that voters have repeatedly voted for solutions (Prop 187 anyone?) and the treason lobby from the right and left have consistently shut us down and destroyed any hope we might have immigration control. It's been utterly out of control for forty years, and it's ruining our way of life in a far more destructive way than Islamic terrorism, which will look like a brief blip on the map of U.S. history compared to half a century of foreign invaders and their anchor babies making babies.

I don't know what some commentator is chirping about saying that I'm against freedom of speech.

Frog,

Yup, it's over the top.

Agreed, concur.

But the nature of this decision is apocalyptic.

It truly is.

This is a decision as far reaching as that in Europe, which allowed in the muslim.

This will REND the fabric of our society, and turn it into something we no longer recognize.

We're allowing in TENS OF MILLIONS of people who haven't any history of meeting GLOBAL responsibility.

We're allowing in people without ANY appreciation of the role of the United States in defending Western Civilization itself.

This is a decision that will probably bring in about fifty million people in the next twenty years.

If we get two million illegals per annum, and a million legal per annum, and then we allow those illegals already present to drag in their families abroad, we are talking about a population movement WITHOUT PARALLEL IN HUMAN HISTORY.

If that's not apocalyptic, then I don't know what is.

So sure, I may have gone somewhat over the top, but the vision that is before me is a dark one, with thunderclouds approaching.

We are assuring Democrat DOMINANCE for decades to come.

We won't have a prayer of competing with them.

And once the Fairness Doctrine is reimposed, we won't even have a way of reaching out to them, of making our message known.

This doesn't meet the legal definition of treason, but it sure meets the conversational definition thereof.

So for one and all, it's perfectly appropriate to brand this decision treasonous.

Absolutely treasonous.

No particular reason, but for some reason I pulled the old lion from the dusty shelf. Thumbing through, and watching some of the leaves fall out, I came across the Rambler and its final passage.

"The certainty that life cannot be long, and the probability that it will be much shorter than nature allows, ought to awaken every man to the active prosecution of whatever he is desirous to perform. It is true that no diligence can ascertain success; death may intercept the swiftest career; but he who is cut off in the execution of an honest undertaking, has at least the honor of falling in his rank, and has fought the battle, though he missed the victory."

Would that our Republican leadership took this to heart. Would that our Senators understood this mark as an inspiration for right action on the Amnesty Bill.

EXCERPT FROM: Border initiatives miss huge group
Millions overstay; security risk seen
By Rick Klein, Boston Globe, May 20, 2006
http://www.boston.com/news/nation/washington/articles/2006/05/20/border_initiatives_miss_huge_group/

WASHINGTON -- The crackdowns on illegal immigration proposed by President Bush and Congress would do virtually nothing to stop the millions of immigrants who come to the country on legal visas but do not return home, a group some specialists contend poses a greater threat to national security than border-jumpers. Government estimates suggest that foreign visitors who have overstayed their visas account for roughly 40 percent of the estimated 12 million undocumented immigrants now in the United States. Immigration analysts say visa violators represent a greater portion of undocumented immigrants in the Boston area, with its huge student population and large concentration of European immigrants. The plans outlined by President Bush and Congress focus heavily on sealing the Mexican border -- by deploying National Guard troops, building fences, and using new technologies. But no amount of border enforcement will have an impact on ''visa overstays," because they don't cross the border illegally in the first place, said Deborah Meyers, a senior analyst at the Migration Policy Institute, a Washington think tank. ''The overstay component has been overlooked," Meyers said. ''It's very important to make sure you're actually trying to solve the whole problem, not just the most visible parts of the problem. . . . From a security perspective, in some ways the overstay population is a bigger threat." A potential terrorist who can obtain a valid visa is more likely to enter the United States legally than to risk apprehension by trying to sneak across the border with Mexico, Meyers said. Two of the 19 Sept. 11 hijackers were in the United States on expired visas. At least six others had otherwise violated immigration laws but were nonetheless able to stay in the United States, according to the 9/11 Commission report.

The Case for Competence
Exerpts from a recent column by Fred Thompson, First Published by National Review On-Line; Wednesday, March 14, 2007

"Wasn't it Casey Stengel, the old baseball manager, who said one day after the third dropped fly-ball in the outfield, "can't anybody here play this game?" That's sort of the way I feel when I watch certain parts of our government in action."

"Whether it's the Katrina response, the problems at Walter Reed Medical Center, BUNGLED BORDER SECURITY, or the IRS and FBI which can't get their computer systems working, it seems like we've lost our ability to take care of some of the most basic duties of government."

"What we need now are managers' (insert VOTERS) 'who understand that even building a government with "less wrong" about it would be a major public service and a truly worthwhile legacy. Of course, it would be nice if they got a little help from Congress and the White House."

PS
The column was NOT specifically about Illegal Immigration but some of the words seem so fitting today.

what passage means
If this passes, if these future Democrat votes enter the country, if they get to the polls, then you will see the end of the following:

The economic recovery initiated by Reagan, for the Democrats will role by the tax cuts and the regulatory relief that propelled our economic recovery;

The tax cuts started by Reagan will be repealed, and you will see a stark return of CONFISCATORY PROGRESSIVE TAXATION, and this time, there won't be any fear on the part of the Democrats that the Republicans could regain power, because with the additional Democrat voters, they will have acquired a lock on Congress;

American sovereignty, for you will see additional delegations of CORE AMERICAN responsibilities, not such national security, but taxation as well;

You will see corrosive social changes rammed through that will ensure Democrat control, and what's more, ensure Democrat ability to brainwash your children, so that they will form in their image, a nightmare scenario if their ever was one;

You will see the Fairness Doctrine return, AND WITH A VENEGANCE;

You will see a sharp slash in America's defense spending;

You will see an abandonment of traditional treaties and traditional understandings such as that with Taiwan;

The Israelis will be thrown to their fate, alone, abandoned, betrayed, and RAGING torrent of evil anti-semitism will sweep our society, even worse than in Europe;

Muslims will enter us in numbers only a lunatic would countenance, and the horrors that we see in Europe, that men like Steyn describe, the genital mutilations, the honour killings, the rapes, the gang rapes, the criminality, the intimidation, in short, the utter satanic evil, that will enter our society;

And this catalogue of horrors, this cataract of cataclysmic disaster, will be ours, will be ours to taste from, to drink from, to quaff from, to have rammed down our throats, and there WILL BE NOWHERE TO FLEE to, for all of those states will have wandered off to make the best deal they could with the rising power.

"AND DON'T THINK THIS IS THE END, THIS IS BUT THE BEGINNING OF THE RECKONING, THIS IS BUT THE FIRST FORESIP, OF A BITTER CUP THAT WILL BE PROFFERED TO US YEAR BY YEAR, UNLESS, UNLESS, WE RECOVER OUR MARTIAL VIRTUE, AND TAKE OUR STAND FOR FREEDOM, as in the olden age...."

Polls have REPEATEDLY indicated that Hispanic Americans want the border secured as much as anyone.

Another thing, which of us deludes ourselves that if we pass this bill, the Hispanics will be grateful to the GOP and start voting for us in droves.

It was our party that passed civil rights legislation, ..................... but did we ever get any credit for it?

Which of us is so foolish to believe that the media, seeing the stakes involved, TENS OF MILLIONS OF FUTURE VOTES, is going to let the GOP take credit for the passage of this "comprehensive" reform?

Which of us would be so foolish?

None of us.

You have to be a real rocket scientist to think this one up, you have to be a creature like "the architect" to conjure up this nightmare.

I can't help but recall that scene from that exceptional war movie, A BRIDGE TO FAR.

It's the scene where Ryan O'Neill, playing General Gavin, orders one of his commanders, Julian something, played by Robert Redford, to take the Nijmegen bridge by a river crossing.

Redford, hearing the order, goes back to his man and introduces the idea to them by saying, and I quote: "Somebody came up with a real nightmare."

And one hell of a nightmare that was.

The British Commanders, Browning, XVII Corps Commander, Vandeleur, Irish Guards, Horrocks, XXX Corps, and Gavin himself, 82nd Airborne, watched the attack go in from an adjacent rooftop.

The British were awestruck by the heroism of our men.

And later said that it was the most valorous infantry attack they had witnessed during the whole war, {which is saying something....}.

And their opinion wasn't offered as mere flattery.

For it was a real nightmare, which the movie only remotely captures.

As for this deal, this piece of knavery, this piece of crap, there's nothing to be said for this capitulation.

This was driven by ROVE, driven by our foolish President, a lost soul, wandering Washington without a clue.

This was driven by little men, little souls, little creatures.

It's a damn, arrant disgrace.

Look everyone, Bush is getting everything he wants;which is an open border. What's ironic is that it was W's mismanagement of the War in Iraq that caused the GOP to lose its majorities in the Congress, and that allows Bush to get amnesty for the illegals.
I wouldn't for a moment suggest that Bush deliberately screwed things up in Iraq intentionally (that's for the conspiracy kooks), but I'm sure Bush would feel that 3,000+ dead American soldiers was a small price to pay for ensuring lots and lots of unskilled labor and millions of more poor people that taxpayers will have to pay to take care of.

Conservatism
Will not die on this vote. Be set back or advanced sure, but die? No.

The principles that gird conservatism are enduring. First and foremost freedom.

Freedom is enhanced by limited government. The Bill of Rights themselves is an enduring call to conservatives.

Conservatism is well expressed beyond them of course, but be not concerned that conservatism will die, because it will not die until the idea of freedom itself dies. And as that is endowed by Nature, and Nature's God then it isn't going anywhere soon.

Since 2002 more Mexicans have come to the U.S. than have died in the country of Mexico. Hello!
Dunn writes: Wednesday, May, 16, 2007 11:18 PM
Very easy solution to this "problem"
If we enforced the laws we already have on the books, we wouldn't have to worry about "alienating" these voters - because most of them will no longer be in this country.

Simply enforcing the laws we have now and adding really tough employer sanctions for hiring illegals is ALL that is necessary to solve this problem.

If they can't get a job here - the main reason they came here in the first place, then they cannot survive in this country and will self-deport. They will simply have no choice but to go back to where they came from.

In just two or three years of simple enforcement - 12 - 20 million might be just 2 - 3 million. A much smaller problem to deal with - and less "votes" to alienate.

Enforcement first. It's easy, and why NOT give our current laws a try before we pass new ones that we also will not enforce?(except for the amnesty portions, of course - just like in 1986?)

Show me how our current laws enforced really work and then let's talk about finding solutions and writing new laws, okay?

After 1986, you can't just sell us the same bill of goods again. You have to prove that you can do it this time before amnesty talk.

Dunn writes: Wednesday, May, 16, 2007 11:16 PM
"Alienate" Latinos? Wrong
To the guy up there wringing his hands that enforcing the law will "alienate" Latinos - think again.

ENFORCEMENT FIRST is a policy supported by 70% of Americans, including a majority of Latinos - a recent poll found. Sure, it was barely a majority in that group, but it was still a majority.

Also, the alternative is importing tens of millions of very liberal voters into this country, which is just the death of Conservatism from here on out. They are very liberal people from socialist backgrounds, and we would be just signing up tens of millions of new Democrats - forever changing the political landscape of this country.
Dunn writes: Wednesday, May, 16, 2007 11:10 PM
If this passes, then Conservatism dies
And not just in the sense that our leaders continue to betray us, even after a stinging rebuke in the 2006 elections, but just by sheer demographics.

It is a pipe dream to think that Hispanics are ever going to be anything other than reliable Democrat voters.

These are not conservative people by any stretch. "Family Values"? The illigetimacy rate of Hispanics is now at 47% and rising fast. A Pew Research poll recently found that even the minority of Hispancs who IDENTIFY themselves as Republicans are very liberal when it comes to the size of government and taxes. In fact, this self-identified Republican minority was found to be MORE liberal on these issues THAN WHITE LIBERALS. And that's the most Conservative of this population!

This is the bunch we're importing in here by the millions with the intention of letting them bring in their entire families to make tens of millions of more? And then to become voters?

And Republicans are going along with this? WHY? Not only is it clearly the wrong thing to do from a fairness/common sense/policy standpoint, it is literally suicide for the entire Republican cause, and will doom this country to be a socialist nation just like the dead states in Europe within one more generation.

Do these "business leaders" who want cheap labor so badly that they'll sell out our country ever just stop and think of the results of these policies? Their business climate will be far less desirable in the socialist state they're helping to create by importing tens of millions of liberal voters from socialist countries to forever change this last best hope of real freedom on earth...

When they are taxed through the roof and regulated into nothing it will be their own faults. They will have not only slit the throat of this country, they will have slit their own throats as well.

This bill CANNOT be allowed to pass.

If the GOP Representatives and Senators support anything other than border security first, I will not contribute to or vote for the party's candidates next year. Let them win their races on the ballots of their new-found amigos and amigas because they sure won't be winning on mine.

Stop sending money to the GOP until they get it.

“There is a war being waged against American sovereignty, against American history, against American EXCEPTIONALISM.”

America’s downfall has always been its arrogance!

“hostility for this country, the last, best hope of man on Earth.”

Again, arrogance….. In this case it equals ignorance! Nobody has any answers that I would deem reliable enough to give man hope. Human kind has let itself down again and again, I would suggest that arrogance and ignorance has been a large part of the problem.

“It's treason.

Treason against the country.

Treason against our illustrious past.

Treason against all that we've been and meant.

Treason against future generations.”

Free speech is treason? I would think that treason would be something like…… umm…. How about LOOSING billions of taxpayers dollars in Iraq, pallets of money..CASH go missing in Iraq and all you can do is whine about liberal politics… What a shame!

“I've had enough of the Bush men glorifying civil servants, insubordinate, mutinous, leaking leftists who got their jobs because of th Democrats complete stranglehold upon the federal bureaucracy.”

WOW…. I hate Bush too, but this is just a whacko statement. The Democrats stranglehold on bureaucracy, you have got to be kidding me, that is like saying the left controls the media in this country, laughable!

I made that suggestion a couple of years ago. There are more Mexicans living in LA County than there are in Mexico west of Mexico City. Invade Mexico. At least it would probably draw many of the Mexicans out of America to fight us in Mexico. If not, we take it by default. It will be much easier to patrol Mexico's southern border than the one we have now and I have a feeling the illegal immigrants would prefer to live in the kind of Mexico we would be creating.

I'm hoping for a Friday morning/early afternoon announcement from FRED.

If it happens, you can bet he'll 'mention' the ILLEGAL issue and the recent developements. He may even put this at or near the top of his list for making the decision to get into the race.

I know if I were advising, I would suggest he defer to "several other Republican candidates with ideas on how to conduct the war on terror" without saying his plan is better....

Save the "My plan FOR BORDER SECURITY is better because..." as the centerpiece of his platform.

If all goes well, the 60 or so reps and senators who met with him will have to DO SOMETHING to back him up or go down in flames...

Illegals are a BIG issue and neither party seems to be getting the point...this could be a blessing in disguise. A landslide in the making.

A war
There is a war being waged against American sovereignty, against American history, against American EXCEPTIONALISM.

As appalling as this capitulation is, is the decision by Bush to sign the Law of the Sea Treaty.

Many of you may have never heard what that treaty is.

It's a fricken nightmare.

Political scientists were chirping about the Law of the Sea Treaty as far back as the EARLY 1980's.

My own Professor, a foaming liberal, endlessly chirped about his work on the Law of the Sea Treaty.

The Left has been agitating for this thing for DECADES, and for decades, rational Republicans rejected the whole damn thing out of hand.

BUT NOT THIS ADMINISTRATION.

This is more of Bush and his creepy ingratiating ways.

This is more of a clueless attempt to find love amongst the elites of this earth, creatures who hate him, hate his agenda, despise his pathological attempts to ingratiate himself with them, and creatures that ooze hostility for this country, the last, best hope of man on Earth.

That's what we're talking about here.

This second term has been a nightmare.

Meirs.

The Dubai Ports deal.

Katrina.

Going nonfunctional on the war.

Scott McClellan.

Karen Hughes.

Condi at State.

His whifty efforts at social security reform, instead of focusing on America's energy needs.

And of course, the piece de resistance, this utterly bizarre, suicidal, Democratic-majority-ensuring attempt at "comprehensive immigration reform."

It's treason.

Treason against the country.

Treason against our illustrious past.

Treason against all that we've been and meant.

Treason against future generations.

Treason against the downtrodden of the Earth who rely upon the United States to defend them, to champion them, not to throw their fate over to the creatures at the United Nations.

Treason against the Party, against the Grand Old Party.

Treason against the legacy of Lincoln.

Treason against the legacy of Teddy.

Treason against the legacy of Coolidge.

Treason against the legacy of Reagan.

Treason against us all, one and all.

And I don't know about you, but I've had enough.

I've had enough of the verbal cripple from Midland.

I've had enough of his father paling around with Clinton, giving him, {and by extension, HIS WIFE} an acid bath.

I've had enough of the Personnel decisions of Bush, of the father, of the lot of them.

I've had enough with the Bush family turning foreign policy over to the establishment.

I've had enough of the Bush men glorifying civil servants, insubordinate, mutinous, leaking leftists who got their jobs because of th Democrats complete stranglehold upon the federal bureaucracy.

I've had enough of it all!

Start calling out the Republican senators. Get them to tell you exactly how they will vote and why. Also ask them if they understand the what this will mean in November 2008. Tell them that we now feel that they didn't get the message last November and plan to finist the job in 2008. Exactly how much worse could it be losing to Hillary or Obama? Electing Republicans is like killing yourself before your enemy beats you to it. We need a second party.

Hunter 2008

Republican voters still get to decide who their nominee will be. Money only buys elections when people act like sheep. If 80% of Republicans are indeed seeking a conservative, we can nominate one. We can nominate Duncan Hunter. The money players won't like it and are trying to convince us only Rudy, Romney, or McCain can win. Hogwash. 49% of people will never vote for Hillary. Only 60% voted last time and turnout was the difference. My belief is Rudy would push turnout down. There might even be a third party, splitting the vote. Give Americans a chance to vote for a candidate who WILL secure the border and watch what happens to turnout. Americans want their government to fulfill it's most basic responsibility.

The primary responsibility of the U.S. government is to protect the territorial integrity and people of this country. They have completely abdicated this responsibility. Both parties have been complicit in this. We are being told it is not possible to control our borders, enforce our laws, and thereby control our destiny as a nation. Hogwash. We are being sold out by corporations intent on importing workers for jobs that can't be exported with the taxpayers paying the true costs, financial and human. If we act like sheep and don't stop the inundation across our borders, we will lose our country without a bleat.

There are enough self-identified "Republicans" in the Senate to stop this nonsense dead in its tracks. If the so-called "Republicans" show the white flag on this issue, the Party is toast. The Republican Party was born with Lincoln and his efforts to preserve the Republic and free the slaves. Bush will murder the Republican Party as he strives to destroy the Republic and import 100 million more "guest-worker" slaves.

Consider the following facts: There are between 25-50 million illegal invaders currently occupying US soil. Once they are given amnesty, they will be able to bring in well over 100 million of their nearest and dearest. And, like the crazy Korean who shot up Virginia Tech, they will all be able to legally buy guns. Welcome to the second Civil War. Only this time an American win is not guaranteed.

Thanks alot Bushies. You should have impeached this treasonous moron when you had the chance. "But figure out some way to make some differentiation between the kind of people that we have here."

"You know, if you have the right kind of policies, and you're not encouraging people to come here and encouraging them to stay once they're here, they'll go back, many of them, of their own volition, instead of having to, you know, load up moving vans and rounding people up. So they are going to allow the seed of destruction to be planted, AND they are trying to pass an assault weapons ban [HB 1022] without a vote, and they are opposing the recent Appellate Court ruling on the 2nd Amendment. Pray that the Supreme Court won't hear the case to overturn the Appellate Court.

Anyone seen the movie "Masked and Anonymous" with Bob Dylan, Jeff Bridges, and Jihn Goodman? It's what America is going to look like - a third world gutter of crime with problems being irreversible, unsolvable, and ugly!

Speaking as someone in Charlotte who had his car pinned into a parking spot that I pulled into at night by another car 2 weeks ago and had to draw his weapon that kept two young Hispanic males in their car, I'm tired of seeing the Commander's Watch Sheet [I have friends in LE that send it to me] that keeps listing "Hispanic Male(s) with gun" robbing people. It's not limited to them alone, but given that 10% of Charlotte is said to be illegal, I'm guessing I could have not made it home due to illegals that come here to rob people that Americans won't.

I'm tired of "feeling alive" and that is exactly what you feel like with your life at risk and time slowing as your mind tells you this could be your last moment of life and you'd better react properly. I'm a big proponent of carrying a gun AND taking a day long combat shooting class to learn how to think of situations better. Mine might have saved my life.

The government is supposed to greatly prevent this from occurring, and they are not putting anyone in jail for what they should be in Charlotte. 35,000 arrests last year and 1000 court cases. If you commit armed robbery you WILL be on the streets within a month awaiting trial. More of my friends that have not carried guns have now taken training and started to do so.

Welcome to the New World Order.

He took the party over the cliff prior to '06, and instead of getting the message, he's doubling-down on stupidity, and the leadership of the party, instead of rejecting Bush root and branch, instead of denouncing his betrayal of the party platform, instead of drawing a line once and for all, they've followed him, they've followed Rove.

And now, they very well may have delivered a wound to the party that no one could heal.

I don't know about you, but do you get the sense as I do that George W. Bush DESPISES the base of the party, that he despises you, that he despises me, that he privately mocks us, laughs at us, derides us, and takes us for granted.

OVER 90% OF THE Republicans want the border secured.

WHAT'S MORE, OVER 60% OF THE DEMOCRATS want the border secured, and despite that overwhelming mandate, we get a border MORE LAWLESS, MORE CHAOTIC, MORE VULNERABLE than ever before.

How much blood will be shed before this country will be allowed to secure herself?

How many mass murdering muslims will creep into this country before she will be able to fend them off?

How many cities will we lose?

How many communities EVEN NOW are living on borrowed time?

Even as we breathe, there are those in our midst whose lives are a tale that has already been told, and all because we were too dainty to protect ourselves from muslim entry?

There will be blood, there will be tears, there will be hearts broken, souls rent, families destroyed, lives ruined.

The Biggest Loophole
The bill ignores the fact that although the "conditional non-immigrant" will be forced to pay a "fine" and pay "back taxes" (most likely $0) for the time they have been in the US, they will be eligible to collect the Earned Income Credit (up to $4536 in 2006) in their first legitimate tax year.

I've already heard stories of Illegals "working" the EIC with fake SS numbers. Some HR Block guys saying that they were handing out checks left and right to presumed illegals (couldn't speak English, and were coached thru the process by someone) with nothing more than a W-2 and SS Card during the last tax cycle.

Think about what will happen when 12+ million new "conditional non-immigrants" can apply for EIC. Most will fall in the higher range of the eligibility - say an average of $3K. Do the math:

12,000,000 X 3000 = $36,000,000,000

That's $36 BILLION in rewards annually for people that broke the law to get here...

I wonder if OUR taxes will go up to fund this giveaway?

Makes me sick :-(

So...what the ha-ell does this mean:

"Republicans insisted that all illegal aliens seeking permanent residence must get in line behind the legal applicants for permanent residence who did not enter the country illegally. And they must return home to make the formal application.

Third, Republicans insisted on higher penalties and fees that illegal aliens must pay in order to remain in the country, and also demanded that illegal aliens pay all back taxes they may owe."

So, they have to go home to fill out their forms, then, they just come back (??) in order to "pay their higher penalties and fees" to "remain in the country". So.....ILLEGAL aliens are paying fines to REMAIN ILLEGAL.

This is a bunch of crap.

Maybe we're just doing the math incorrectly on this.
If we build half a fence, we might be able to prevent half of the illegals from entering. I mean, look at it this way, we're probably only catching, say, 3 to 5 percent of the illegals now. If we catch 50% of them with half of a fence, we are going to be way ahead of the game...
