ABC Trying to Discredit Joe Plumber
Posted by: Amanda Carpenter at 11:22 AM
The MSM is asking Joe Plumber much harder questions about Barack Obama than they've ever bothered asking Obama himself.

Check this out from ABC's Diane Sawyer today:

Diane Sawyer: "Well I just want to ask you now about the issue that was raised because it's been a little confusing to me as I tried to sort it out here. To get straight here, you're not taking home $250,000 now, am I right?"

Joe Wurzelbacher: "No. No. Not even close."

Sawyer: "And you were you asking -- about the prospect, the hope that someday you would make $250,000, and you were saying you didn't want that to be taxed?"

Wurzelbacher: "Well, exactly. Exactly. I mean not that I don't want to be taxed. You have to be taxed. But to -- just because you work a little harder to have a little bit more money taken from you, I mean, that's scary. You know as opposed to other people. I worked hard for it. Why should I be taxed more than other people?"

Sawyer: "Well if people making $250,000 should not be taxed additionally -- by the way, it's 3% from 36% to 39% under Senator Obama's plan. If those people should not be taxed additionally, even though they're in the top 5% of America, what about people who make $1 million? Or $5 million?"

Wurzelbacher: "Well, I mean, quite honestly, why should they be penalized for being successful. I mean, that's what you're telling me. That's what it sounds like you're saying. That's wrong. Because you're successful, you have to pay more than everybody else? We all live in this country. It's a basic right. And Obama wants to take that basic right and penalize me for it, is what it comes down to. That's a very socialist view and it's incredibly wrong. I mean, $250,000 now. What if he decides, well you know $150,000, you're pretty rich too. Let's go ahead and lower it again. You know it's a slippery slope. When's it going to stop?"

Did anyone hear Sawyer
volunteer that her rediculous salary be taxed first? Joe should have told her where to i nsert the mike and walked off.

I say we cross our fingers
and hope the media keeps Joe in the news. It sounds to me like he is on the right side of the argument.

Joe knows cr_p when he sees it.

Matt Eisenstadt did the job for ABC

Seems that whether or not McCain actually KNEW Joe was a Keating, he basically brought the criminal he helped bilk American workers of their pension into the spotlight.

It doesn't get more ironic and twisted as this. The PERFECT storm.

BTW, keep touting the Joe the [fake] Plumber - it's just now getting interesting.

MSM - Why Vet Obama.....
...when we can tear into a common citizen giving his opinion?

BTW Joe W. doesn't NEED a license - the license is in the business owner's name. Joe's contemplating buying the plumbing business where he's currently employed.

Again...isn't it refreshing to see MSM STILL refusing to vet The One. Probably because they KNOW what they'll discover!
eddie too writes: Thursday, October, 16, 2008 1:57 PM
Joe is definitely not related to Keating

No evidence is available supporting this lie.

Tell that to Matt Eisenstadt - he is the one spreading the info on his rightwing blog, no less......

Lovely, keep debasing a worker
The left are drano drinkers, really. Even Ms. Sawyer with her decades in public life can't avoid rushing to be an imbecile.

Plumbing is one of the highest compensated of the trades.

Owners of plumbing companies, (even modest ones) secure yearly revenue that can exceed $ 250,000. Especially the ones that have furnace and cooling adjuncts to the enterprise or do construction repair with the business such as tile reconstruct, showers, pans etc.

Get a clue. Run and attempt to degrade a working American in a swing state.

Have Joe Biden show how out of touch he is with the proletariat. It'll inure benefit to the view that you represent the workers.

Truth is, trades and workers profit from the Republican view of small business ownership before they benefit from being made to appear liars and forced into the collective worker bee pool.

Most skilled trades enjoy owning a jet boat, going hunting, having a wide screen, taking the family to dinner when they want and keeping their money to do it before "spreading the wealth."

Now, drink the drano.

Joe the Plumber for President!
...and Nancy dear, the Obama cult has apparently warped your brain. Your silly conspiracy theory does absolutely nothing to refute the point that Joe made, namely that it is wrong to punish people for becoming successful. It is also harmful to the very people that liberals wrong-headedly attempt to help by redistributing income. Nancy, did you ever get a job from a poor person? Didn't think so.

The basic flaw in the lib's class warfare nonsense is that they make the assumption that "classes" are fixed and immutable. The reality is that people move up and down (and over the past 8 years, mostly UP) all the time.

The stinging irony in Obama's approach is that the same person (such as Joe) who would be lauded and showered with unearned handouts by Obama so long as he remained poor or "middle-class", would instantly be villified and punitively taxed by Obama if he ever actually made something of himself and became successful. It cannot be overstated that the mortal danger that the country faces if we elect someone such as an Obama (particularly with a Democratic congress at his back)is that DEMOCRATS HAVE NO INCENTIVE TO ALLOW CITIZENS TO BECOME SUCCESSFUL. IF WE ACTUALLY MOVE OURSELVES UP THE LADDER, THE DEMOCRATS LOSE BECAUSE WE NO LONGER "NEED" THEM TO PROVIDE FOR US. THEREFORE, DEMOCRATS WILL ALWAYS PROMOTE POLICIES THAT ENABLE GOVERNMENT DEPENDENCY AND THAT PUNISH INDIVIDUAL SUCCESS.

Common practice for Dem/Libs!

Not the argument...
"Because you're successful, you have to pay more than everybody else? We all live in this country."

Actually, the economic argument behind it is that you gain comparative social benefits from living in a country where fewer people are poor.

It's the same argument used to force those of us who do not have children in public schools to pay for your kid's education: that I gain a social benefit from having more educated people in this country.

Whether or not this argument has merit, or whether or not the amount of social benefit you gain is equivalent to the amount you are taxed can certainly be debated, but generally no one sets out to 'punish success', as without some people making money in the private sector, there wouldn't be any money to pay for roads, schools, or any of the infrastructure we generally take for granted.

About clarifying Obama's tax proposal?
geek45 writes: Thursday, October, 16, 2008 2:20 PM
Higher taxes
Progressive taxation is nothing more than a legalized mugging. Two poor guys mugging a rich guy to take his money.

If we ever get to the point where 51% of the electorate is paying zero taxes (or possibly a negative tax), then the country will be doomed.

I would set the personal exemption at the poverty level and tax everything above that at a flat rate.
karmic backlash writes: Thursday, October, 16, 2008 2:26 PM
You guys always like the liars
Because it seems that is precisely what Joe the [Keating]Plumber is. How unusual of you all to not see through the dirt and get a clue. Sheesh.

And isn't it sad that out of the debate the only thing you can cling to is a fake plumber who might be tied to McCain's worst nightmare? The fact that McCain had to say "I'm not President Bush!" in order to attempt to score points is precisely why your Party is in trouble. Obama's terrific comeback which included all the reasons why he mistakes McCain for Bush helps seal that point.

And now it looks like your savior the plumber's buttcrack is showing and it ain't a pretty sight. Lying is one thing, but a plant with ties to Keating of the Keating Five Scandal reminds us all of how cynical and nasty the GOP platform and ideology has been for many, long years

DUH
AS IF "Joe the Plumber" (who by the way - is shown standing today in front of a trailer, which clearly is supposed to be his home) JUSt happened to be talking with OBAMA the last minute before the debate and JUST happened that the news was there to catch the entire conversation and ACCIDENTLY gave McCain a little perk to pick at Obama with at the debate. If "Poor ole'" Joe the plumber lives in that trailer and one day envisions a $250,000 windfall to start his own business...we'd all better take a GOOD look at the return address on the envelope that holds those unmarked bills for bankrolling Joe's new business. LOL.....Wake up and smell the set up... By the way, Joe, when you get that money from the McCain group....you need to pay taxes like the rest of us (only you'll be doing a LOT better than most of us...so you'll be paying a little more!!)
Give Me A Break writes: Thursday, October, 16, 2008 3:31 PM
Exactly Nancy
They are pathetic its never country first. Self and interest first and foremost. While the real joes out here struggle behind their curtain of idealogy.

This Joe did not seem real to me, even when he was mentioned in the debate.

What guy who worked his way up to $250k would not understand the benefits of tax cuts for people who are where he was just recently? What about his employees and customers? Won’t tax cuts for them benefit him?

The increase in his portion over $250k would be 3%. He’s whining about 3%. This guy is not real. Meanwhile his employees will do better on what he pays them because they will pay less. It all comes around, and any businessman would know that. Hell, even I know it and I’m not a businessman.

Obvious McCain plant, regardless of who he’s related to.

You guys are a joke....He is making a fuss and yet isnt even registered....ANYTHING TO WIN. COUNTRY LAST UNDER YOU A$sHOLES.

DISGUSTING.....IF OBAMA did this it would be really be off with his head........

Taxes, theft, and coercion
[Progressive taxation is nothing more than a legalized mugging. Two poor guys mugging a rich guy to take his money.]

Actually, if you're going to go with the taxes = theft position, then it should be: "Taxation is nothing more than legalized mugging, with the government using coercion and force to take our money."

Because while you may object to the idea of government taking tax dollars to attempt to alleviate poverty, others may also object to the government taking their tax dollars to fight the war on drugs, or object to their dollars funding the war in Iraq.

The latter two examples, I would imagine most conservatives (or at least a majority of the ones on this site) would claim that they receive some intangible benefit that compensates them for the seizure of their money.

Really great point. And it would be nice if this debate about joe and taxes could get discusion of the Fair tax started again.
