Newt NOT Running for RNC Chair
Posted by: Amanda Carpenter at 2:51 PM
I believe Fox reported this earlier this afternoon and now it's up on Drudge.

I'm breathing easier now. See below:

Steele should be just fine
Smart, telegenic, articulate. Is it identity politics, or will it be seen that way? Sure, but so what? SO WHAT? He's qualified and that's all that matters. Sure he lost his Senate bid. But Howard Dean lost his last bid and did fine as DNC chairman.

Steele's easygoing and amiable manner could refute the false caricature the media has of the GOP. I kept hearing "the GOP is the party of white guys". Identity politics has it's uses--and though WE would put Steele in there for his QUALIFICATIONS, if others (the media) see it as identity politics (in a good way), fine. Use it. Politics is the art of the possible.

Steel is not a leader
He is a fine man and a conservative but I have seen no leadership. He also lost his bid for the senate. We need a leader, aman of ideas that has shown that he can win NEWT

Pelosi/RNC Chair
Does anyone remember the villain Cane from the first Poltergeist movie? The old guy in the black hat. I need to find a pic of Pelosi with her evil grin, and super-impose a black hat on her.

I'm just saying...

For the purpose of this thread, No on Newt. We really don't need a Prima Dona in a position of power right now. We really need someone who is willing to do a lot of hard work, and stay relatively out of the spotlight. Maybe when there done, and ready for a promotion, then they can brag about their work. No egos, no real big names, just someone willing to roll up their sleeves for the good of the party.

Michael Steele
Michael Steele will do a good job as RNC Chairman. He is articulate and photogenic and operates from good principles. Newt Gingrich, one of the most energetic thinkers among conservatives, can feed Michael good ideas.
Newt would be excellent in any job but, of course, the so called Social Republicans shun him.

(A pox on the Social Republicans.)
Jen writes: Wednesday, November, 12, 2008 9:58 AM
Dan is right
The Repubs are just liberals with jobs. Conservatives need our own party to stand by our principles.

Michael Steele...
Taking my Huck/Saltzman support out of the equation, the best choice is michael steele.

we need to broaden our base and having an african american would help start that process.

RE:Chip Saltman
Larry:

That's OK that you are a Huckabee supporter.

I wasn't really in the tank for anyone this time around but the Republican Party somehow managed to pick the ONLY candidate I couldn't support.

My concern is that there is a lot of legwork that needs to be done if we are to be competitive in 2010 or 2012. That type of legwork cannot be tied to any particular candidate or we will fall into the same trap that hurt us badly this cycle
Larry writes: Tuesday, November, 11, 2008 11:50 PM
Chip Saltzman,,,
Dave,

I agree with you...but I'm in the tank for the incredible huckster...if I were neutral, I wouldn't think saltzman would be a good choice.

Cal GOP
Dan in SC:

A little background on the California GOP.

Since 1995 the California GOP has given itself a series of self-inflicted headshots. As usual the damage was done by the moderates.

In 1994 the Republicans took control of the California State Assembly. Then because of a personality conflict between republicans one republican (Paul Horcher) made a deal to keep Willie Brown as Speaker. Horcher was removed in a special recall election and the Republicans once again had a majority. Then another republican (Doris Allen) made another deal which technically made her Speaker but left Willie Brown calling the shots. She had to be removed from office in another special recall election. But before she left she turned the speakership over to a third turncoat Republican (Brian Sentecich). In 1995 Willie Brown was elected mayor of San Francisco. When he left the assembly the Republicans were finally able to get a Speaker elected (Curt Pringle). But the damage was done and it was fatal. The Republican Party has not been a major factor in California politics since. They can sometimes delay but have not been able to stop anything. Brian Sentecich was defeated in the 1996 Republican Primary by a WRITE-IN candidate.

The good candidates for statewide offices have generally been one-shot wonders who run once-lose-then disappear from view. Tom McClintock is really the only decent elected Republican of note but although he has tried several times he has not been able to put together a winning team at the statewide level. The State Party is totally dominated by the John McCain type moderates whose strategy is to appeal to moderates and to accept political affiliations as written is stone and make no efforts to change minds (Just like the National Party)
Dave M writes: Tuesday, November, 11, 2008 10:35 PM
Chip Saltzman
Larry:
Anyone who is committed to Huckabee or Romney or "Fill in the name" should be the person immediately disqualified. The next head of the RNC needs to be able to rebuild the party. If he is tied to any particular candidate he will fail.

His task is to rebuild the Republican party so its candidates-whoever they are-will be in a strong position to win.

Contrast that with Martinez who got this party in a condition where they were running from positions of weakness

LeftRudyRight...I agree...
Its hard to see how the massive amount of money that we are spending on the war on drugs fits into the NCP platform. I think the NCP would kill any money being spent at the federal level on this very expensive and very ineffective initiative. I say take the money we're spending on that and give it back to the people or local governments to let them decide how to combat the drug problem.
Larry writes: Tuesday, November, 11, 2008 5:54 PM
Chip Saltsman...
That's who should get the RNC Chair.

Then he can help get Huckabee the nomination in 2012.

HUCK/JINDAL 2012!!!!
LeftRudyRight writes: Tuesday, November, 11, 2008 5:19 PM
Dan in SC- NCP Platform
NCP platform looks good. I say we start with the War on Drugs. That hits on a couple of your points. It would allow for the defense of freedom and personal liberties, not to mention personal responsibility. It would take power away from the fed government and put it back in the hands of the states, so it would, theoretically, decrease the size of the federal government. And as a bonus, it would stop the funding of countless groups of people, both domestically and abroad, who would do us harm.

My problem with Newt in this ad.
Newt sitting down with Nancy to discuss global warming is WRONG. I think this crap that the GOP needs to reach far left across the aisle is the problem. We should be reaching out to moderate democrats as needed. Screw the far left. Nancy is the far left and should be shunned.
Dan in SC writes: Tuesday, November, 11, 2008 4:54 PM
Kathy thanks...
Of course anyone that would chair a party that was formed to stand-for and fight for the rights laid out by the Constitution would be labeled a "radical" in today's political environment. :-)

Sounds great to me! Where do we sign up for the new Conservative Party? The GOP has abandoned all conservative principals and do not deserve the support of any of us that still hold true the values put forth by our Founders and our Founding Documents.

You can be the new Chair!
vonryansexpress writes: Tuesday, November, 11, 2008 4:26 PM
We need to be smart on climate change
Gingrich is smart.

The original animus to any talk of "global warming" came as the result of the messenger, Al Gore and his passion for curtailing American industry.

The idea was that if we accept the tenant that there is global warming occurring, then we address it by forcing American industries to adopt radical and costly carbon and greenhouse gas measures. Or, we ban certain practices such as coal burning outright. This being folly, the right turned its back on all discussion that stemmed from the inconvenient Mr. Gore.

There are changes in the environment that are not salutary. We, Republicans need to take the issue away from the left and make it a salient part of our national security stewardship. Our air and water and critters are worth protecting.

We can do a better job of climate protection with less knee jerk anti-business then Al Gore and Arianna Huffington. Gingrich is right to sit next to Ms. Pelosi. The contrasts are evident ... even polar bears will choose Newt over Nancy to stay in the cold. His presence trumps hers and her lot and we need to understand why this is a good issue for us.

Great if we get Steele without having to make a choice over Gingrich. I suspect Mr. Gingrich is doing the party a great service and again demonstrating why he is such a visionary American. Backing Steele will be his great gift to us all.
Dan in SC writes: Tuesday, November, 11, 2008 4:11 PM
So can we just kill the Republican party
and start the New Conservative party? Let the lefties, moderates, RINOs, liberal Republicans have it. The blue blood Republicans never had anything but contempt for the conservatives anyways.

I think if we took the best and the brightest conservative minds and formed our own party, we could put the GOP out of business. They will become the party of irrelevance b/c their message will be lame and their donors will be gone.

The New Conservative Party will have a basic platform from which all of its positions will be derived:

1) Always defend the right to life.

2) Always defend freedom and personal liberties.

3) Always fight to reduce the size of government except for national defense. This includes fighting for less spending, lower taxes, and for the free market.

4) Always put the U.S. first, and fight any policy that weakens our position in the world (e.g. Kyoto).

5) Always defend the rule of law, and work within the confines of the Constitution to change laws that need to be changed.

6) Always fight for federalism and autonomy of the states.

Am I leaving anything out?

I have no idea who the CA GOP head is, but the party in CA is almost dead. There are a couple of good Californians, Duncan Hunter, Tom McClintock.

No, its not just you that she creeps out, its everyone that is not associated with her left wing San Francisco values that she creeps out. The S.F.er's just love her to pieces because she brings home the bacon for all of their depraved behaviors.

Hang in there though, I think she has just about overdosed on Botox, and I hear the effects can be life changing!
Dan in SC writes: Tuesday, November, 11, 2008 3:19 PM
Who is the head of the CA GOP?
Its time the GOP stopped shying away from California. That state is too big of a prize to simply forfeit. I know for a fact there are some very good and very strong conservatives in that state, and no I'm not talking about the Govenator.

I think we need to see who all they have and see if any of them are ready for a national stage.

One of the reasons Reagan was successful was because he came from CA and he could carry CA in the general election.

I think I'm gonna hurl.
Is it just me, or does anyone else get creeped out by Pelosi. Could she be a robot?

New Blood Needed
Preferably some from outside the Beltway, that understand that the citizens want to keep their country. That they want the laws enforced and the border secured. That they want the Constitution and the rule of law upheld. National security starts at the border.
