Obama's Prevent Defense
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 7:04 PM
The best news all week is this report of Obama's decision "to play it safe."  NFL fans know what this means: A hair raising close that can go against the team that plays against the deep threat only.

If you have any doubt about the volatility of presidential elections, be sure to read E.J. Dionne's piece on the subject from 1988, and the background on the 1992 British elections in which John Major was expected to lose, but in fact stayed Prime Minister. See: The Shy Tory Factor for interesting background.

Keep whistling past the graveyard Hugh
Hugh, how come you have mentioned Ayers today? Perhaps because you read the Fox Opinion Dynamics poll which indicated that the Ayers attacks have backfired and have caused more people to support Obama? How come you did not mention that Christopher Buckley has just come out in support of Barrack Obama?

But even assuming your premise to be true, that Obama is playing it safe, nothing will change the dynamics of this race given that McCain has shown no sign of doing anything differently. The country has turned AGAINST McCain. Given that McCain has dug his own hole, of course Obama is going to continue to do nothing while McCain keeps digging. It is Politics 101.
VoiceOfReason writes: Friday, October, 10, 2008 7:29 PM
Playing it safe
Hugh, if this is what happens when you play it safe, then maybe John McCain should consider a similar strategy:

"With 25 days to go until the election, Barack Obama is presently at his all-time highs in four of the six national tracking polls (Research 2000, Battleground, Hotline and Zogby) and is just one point off his high in Gallup. He has emerged with clear leads in both Florida and Ohio, where there are several polls out today. He is blowing McCain out in most polls of Pennsylvania and Michigan, and is making states like West Virgina and Georgia competitive."

Playing it safe, indeed!

Mccain will win
The economic crisis has happened to soon for Hussein.
Even his media buds are tacitly blaming the Democrats. If this would have happened a week from now maybe it would have saved the Duhsiah.Mccain is even with independents and the overwieghting of dems to repubs in polls will make a juicy night when we all see the dems see there dreams dashed when Osama loses.

Kelley
You do not get to create your own facts. I have pasted below the most recent Fox Dynamics Opinion Poll since I know it would be one you find to be credible:

Barack Obama leads John McCain by 46 percent to 39 percent, according to a FOX News national registered voter poll released Friday. Two weeks ago Obama led by 45 percent to 39 percent (Sept. 22-23).

Obama's advantage comes mainly from doing better among women, blacks, young voters, those with a college degree, and unmarried voters. He has increased his edge over McCain among women to 16 percentage points, up from a 4-point edge last month (Sept. 8-9).

Obama has also improved his standing with his party faithful. A month ago, 79 percent of Democrats were backing Obama. Today it is 86 percent. McCain has consistently received the backing of over 80 percent of Republicans and is backed by 83 percent today.

Independents split their vote 34 percent Obama and 32 percent McCain, with 24 percent unsure. That's little changed from two weeks ago when Obama was up by 36 percent to 31 percent and 29 percent undecided.

A 61 percent majority of voters believes Obama is going to win the election — more than three times as many as believe McCain will (18 percent). A month ago it was evenly divided: 41 percent Obama and 40 percent McCain (Sept. 8-9). This summer, voters were more likely to say Obama would win: 51 percent Obama and 27 percent McCain (July 22-23).

It seems we have another poll watcher,
so, "voice", try this one on for size. NO candidate for POTUS, has ever won, without receiving a majority of the white male vote, EVER. As we speak, McCain/Palin lead in that demographic, by 19%.

Also, "reason", if this race is "in the bag", for the "wimp", how come ACORN, is under investigation in 13 states, for voter fraud? Are they, just playing it cool, "reason"? Did they not get the memo, "reason". ACORN's out there rounding up people as if there's no tomorrow, or as if it's not "in the bag"! Please give us your,"voice of reason", on, what appears to be, a huge contradiction. But then again that's nothing new, for anything to do with, the "wimp". For, he's a walking, talking, contradiction.

Hugh, if a law student at Chapman
Cited only part of a crucial case, the part that helped him, and ignored the part that hurt him rather than distinguish it, you'd flunk him (I hope). What the article says is that "Barack Obama is playing it safe. Leading in polls with 25 days to Election Day, the Democratic nominee is offering careful proposals to address the economic crisis while letting allies respond to John McCain's sharpest charges." And he's got lots of cash to buy lots of ads, and will likely bring his grandma out of hiding for a final twist to end McCain's career.

Hugh, Lileks called you out yesterday. Move on to something else. Just remember that the huge Obama turnout on 11/4 in California is the death knell for that hateful Prop 8.

Big story about to break, we are one step closer to Rezko giving Obama up to federal prosecutors
Posted by hillbuzz under Uncategorized
We firmly believe in McCain’s victory and do not believe it hinges on any developments with RICO. The polls, in our opinon, are wrong, and the internal numbers we see coming out of NC, VA, PA, OH, IN and FL show McCain wins in all of those states (there is no mathematical possibility for Obama to win without taking PA, OH, or FL). We believe after McCain’s win there will be a continued prosecution of Obama and members of the Democratic party for voter fraud under RICO statutes in the months and years ahead. ACORN and leftist Democrats have gone too far this time — for years ACORN has engineered deliberate election fraud using taxpayer dollars funneled to it by Democrats. This time, with both Democrats and Republicans joined against them, ACORN Is going down…and we believe it will ultimately take Obama, Axelrod, and most of today’s Democratic leadership down with it.
The Giannoulias family was involved with Obama as far back as his first state senate campaign in 1996. It has been long rumored here in Chicago that Obama obtained a sweetheart deal on his first town home here in Chicago — which he could not have afforded otherwise — and guess who the financing came from for that house? We’ve been told it was Broadway Bank, the Giannoulias bank. Now, this sets up a scenario where the Giannoulias family helps Obama with his campaign finances and gets him deeper in their pocket with his sweetheart mortgage deal (for the first home he owned that he could not afford) – all in exchange for quid pro quo to be determined later.
GOPsaver writes: Friday, October, 10, 2008 8:40 PM
hillbuzz Part II
One favor political Chicago claims Obama did for the Giannoulias family was in 2006 when, out of the blue, 29 year old Alexi Giannoulias, with no experience, and without ever having voted before, decides to run for State Treasurer of Illinois. Also out of the blue, Barack Obama endorses Alexi Giannoulias for State Treasurer. This was a SHOCK to everyone in Chicago — and Giannoulias would have never become State Treasurer without Obama’s help. In political circles here, it has always been believed that this endorsement was bought years ago with that sweetheart mortgage deal Broadway Bank arranged for Obama to buy his town house.
So, the Tony Rezko sweetheart deal was not the first magic home loan Obama ever received to buy a house he could not afford.
There’s more to this that looks like it will break soon. We were STUNNED when we read Sneed’s column because we never in a million years believed Fitz would actually be able to take down Obama.
Sneed’s clue can only mean Broadway Bank…we’ve now heard this from several people in Chicago. And Broadway Bank can only mean Giannoulias. And Giannoulias leads to Obama through that town house home loan and the quid pro quo political endorsement several years later. And that home loan ties back to Rezko, in that it was the first of two shady home buys Obama made with quid pro quos attached to them.

Renegade- the entire report is online right now. It is 263 pages long and is very comprehensive. I invite your attention to finding #1 on page 8, which says Palin abused her power. The investigation was authorized by a bipartisan panel. Is it impossible for republicans to accept the fact she may not the reformer she claims to be? She certainly tried to stonewall the investigation and to try to keep the findings under wrap until after the election. So much for that strategery.

It's over, people. I was listening to McCain in a televised townhall yesterday. The guy simply sounded dazed and confused. Embarrassing.

The economy is tanking, and McCain is going to trumpet "change" even though he's been in Washington for 30 years? Riiiiight.

And now Palin has been found to have "abused her power" in Troopergate.

Nice pick of Palin, McCain. And nice pick of McCain, GOP. I can't believe this was the best choice we could come up with. McCain is the GOP version of Kerry.

The closer we get, the more hopeless the situation looks.

Maybe she should have.

"Thank you for the offer, Senator McCain, I am deeply honored. But I must decline. I'm in the middle of an abuse of power investigation, and while I believe I am innocent of wrongdoing, I fear the publicity would hurt your campaign and therefore the country. I have a sweet baby who needs me and a teen daughter in crisis. My family needs to be my first priority right now, followed by my responsibilities as governor."

The decent thing to do is step down, but Palin is much too self-involved to consider it. McCain is tanking and this probably seals it.

Not convinced
Reading it now. It's interesting that a number of people have not provided testimony and some records were not provided. As I recall, the State AG ruled those persons subpoenaed were not obligated to appear.

It's tough to write a fair report when only one side has provided evidence.

And with regards to findings, just because an investigator comes to a conclusion, it doesn't mean it's true. Investigations can be steered and manipulated.

Forgive me for wanting to be fair.

If you don't want to check it out, here's the text from the Birth Announcement section of the Honolulu Advertiser from August 13, 1961:

"Mr. and Mrs. Barack H Obama, 6035 Kalanianole Hwy., son, Aug 4."

Here's how factcheck.org dismissed this: "Of course, it's distantly possible that Obama's grandparents may have planted the announcement just in case their grandson needed to prove his U.S. citizenship in order to run for president someday. We suggest that those who choose to go down that path should first equip themselves with a high-quality tinfoil hat. The evidence is clear: Barack Obama was born in the U.S.A."

Not there yet

Sorry. No smoking gun.

A lot of innuendo, assumptions and recollections, but no clear proof Moneghan's firing was the result of his refusal to deal with Wooten. The findings clearly state that the termination was "proper and lawful". The finding that the Wooten situation played a role is nothing more than supposition. If he was let go for any just cause, the Wooten issue should be secondary to that and be rendered irrelevent. The burden of proof is on the accuser, not the accused.

Todd Palin appears to have had extraordinary access to Monegan's office, but I don't see any indication Monegan made any attempt to control that. He seems to have regularly allowed T. Palin to continue contacting him. Of course, Alaska isn't New York City and that level of familiarity might be common.

Appearances are that T. Palin, and others, were probably too aggressive in their constant complaints. Of course, Wooten allegedly did threaten to kill the Gov.'s father and did taser his son. Not a real stable personality. Monegan, however, should have shown some backbone and called them on it, authoritatively. He's supposed to be the top cop in Alaska. He should have read them the riot act and told them to cease and desist and then briefed the Gov. on his actions. If he had done that and was then fired, I'd be more sympathetic.

A meeting with the Gov. to draw the line of acceptable behavior on behalf of T. Palin and her aides might have nipped this whole thing in the bud. It sounds like he was either afraid to do so or was hoping they would just tire and go away.
I didn't get a chance to read every word (as I'm sure some will) since I've got an early morning, but since this is only one side of the story, I can't find cause to draw the conclusion the Gov. abused her authority in his termination.

Even if true, if this is the best scandal they can come up with, I'm afraid it doesn't hold a candle to Comrade Obama's behavior.

Obama is a mystery
For nearly two years Barack Obama has been running for the presidency, but can we honestly say we know him at all? Joe Biden and John McCain have been in public office for a long time, and so we know their backgrounds. Sarah Palin, though she is new to the national scene, is having her public life scrutinized to no end by the national media. Can the same be said about Obama? Of course not. The media is so hellbent on electing the first Black president that they won't do their jobs of investigating him. Bill Ayers, Tony Rezco, connections to ACORN, etc... These things mean nothing to them. I picked up a copy of the LA Times today and their main political stories are dealing with the Palin ethics investigation in Alaska, her ties with lobbyists, and McCain having to tell Republican supporters to tone down their attacks on Obama. Of course there were no hit pieces on Obama. What a shock? I'm sure this kind of "fair" reporting is going on in every newspaper in this country. The MSM is putting a virtual wall of protection around Obama in these final weeks. Hope McCain and Palin enjoy their last three weeks in the national spotlight. This game is over.
