Why is a ranking member of the Webb campaign so eager to label Allen a Jew? The following comes from a Daily Kos diary by one Lowell Feld, “the Netroots Coordinator for the Jim Webb for US Senate Campaign”:
Peggy Fox isn't running for U.S. Senate. George Allen is. So, whether you liked that question or not (personally, I didn't see it anything to get angry about; it's like asking Jim Webb about his Scots-Irish ancestry or any of us about our ancestors), this is all about George Allen - why he gets so angry so often, why he is so prone to attacking those he sees as weak and/or threatening, etc.
As another famous Jew, Sigmund Freud, might have said in this situation, George Allen appears to have some deep-seated "issues" regarding his Jewish heritage - and regarding many other things as well. (Emphasis added)
The bottom of Feld’s entry declaims, “The ideas expressed here belong to Lowell Feld alone, and do not necessarily represent those of Jim Webb, his advisors, staff, or supporters.” It is, however, worth noting the netroots’ unseemly comfort with anti-Semitism has been a matter of much conversation in the past.
I do believe the time has come for the Webb campaign to officially weigh in on this matter. And, in case anyone from Webb HQ is reading this, you might want to read my post from Sunday to find out what I was thinking about this race after the Meet the Press debate.
In other words, nice work, guys. You may have turned a great American into a political hatchet man in the record time of 48 hours.

Read the comments from Daily Kos or Democratic Underground and you will find vile anti-semitic rants worthy of Der Sturmer.
The lunatic left is attracting these worms in droves, due to the left’s anti-American alliance with the Islamofascists.
It’s vital to know just how beholden to the lunatic left the Democrat Party really is. No one who is concerned about the future of our country should even think of voting for a member of the Democrat Party.

There shouldn't be any relevance in a campaign for heritage you are correct. However, as many have pointed out, Allen has draped himself in heritage. He sports the Confederate flag and associates with known hate/christian identity groups. He also singled out a non-white kid at a campaign stop and called him a monkey. Felix Allen has been campaigning on heritage, pure and simple. |

Cali -- It doesn't matter that having Jewish ancestors is irrelevant to a political campaign. The offensiveness of the reporter's remark lies in the very fact of its irrelevance. Ask yourself why the reporter didn't, in fact, ask Allen whether his ancestors were Scots-Irish or Pennsylvania Dutch. A reasonable inference is that she thought it was something significant. It isn't -- a person's religion/ancestry shouldn't count for or against him in politics -- ergo, the reporter was an idiot, and got properly called on it. |

The Webb campaign didn't ask the question. Sounds like Feld is scratching his head like most on the Left and wondering what the big fuss is about being labeled a Jew in the Republican party? Being jewish is also an ethnicity not just a religion. There's nothing wrong with asking someone if they are Scots-Irish or Pennsylvania "dutch".
Maybe Felix Allen could answer the question as to why he has that confederate noose, poses for pictures with Right wing hate groups(Council of Conservative Citizens) and almost vomits when someone asks about his ethnicity.
Allen may still win the Senate seat in Va, but any Presidential aspirations have long been removed from the table.

"You may have turned a great American into a political hatchet man in the record time of 48 hours."
Maybe they meant it as a way of showing voters how quickly they'll respond to a disaster. Though it seems they've done the reverse here. :P |

Otherwise you too would be outraged. Here is the question
"It has been reported that your grandfather Felix, whom you were given your middle name for, was Jewish. Could you please tell us whether your forebears include Jews and, if so, at which point Jewish identity might have ended?"
Dean, did you notice that last sentence? She's asking at what point did the Allen family denounce their Jewish ancestry.
Talk about a disgusting anti-Semitic question! |

In a close race, the Dems need this identification so the anti-Semites that are now swarming their party can know which candidate is the "bad guy." It's no longer about ordinary politics and belief systems, it's been reduced to a world of "Jews = bad," "everyone else (especially Muslims) = good." Under that rubric, you need a religious scorecard to know the appropriate players.
It's disgusting, it's un-American, and it's highly anti-Semitic -- which is what Allen understood when he instantly labeled the question as reprehensible. That is, is Jewish-ness isn't reprehensible; it's the attempt to label an American by religion in an election that is appalling. |

This is very similar to John Kerry's reference to Mary Cheney being a lesbian in the last presidential debate two years ago. It's designed to plant negative feelings in the mind of a certain segment of voters about the opposing candidate and then when that candidate cries foul over the tactics, then the candidate who used the tactic implies that their opponent is embarrassed about their background. In other words, the candidate who is really the victim of the disgusting tactics is portrayed as the intolerant one.
What makes this situation more strange, and possibly even worse is the fact that the issue was introduced not by the candidate himself, but by a panelist at a debate. And the fact that the candidate's campaign has picked up on it and is trying to make an issue out of it raises serious questions about how independent this panelist was.
This is further evidence of how James Webb has sold out his principles all for the adulation of the Kos kids. I'm glad to see Dean Barnett finally seeing through his previous admiration of Webb as a person. All of his previous accomplishments aside, Webb has clearly cast his lot with the anti-American, anti-Semitic ultra left-wing in this country. Nothing he has accomplished in his past can excuse him for turning his back on principle like he has done. Whatever failings Allen might have as a candidate and a person, he is the only clear choice for those who care about the future of this country. |

Zero morality, ethics and willingness to do the right thing consequences be damned.
This (fill-in-the-blank) yahoo should have fully apologized and the Democrats should have condemned this, especially considering - and this is NOT intended to be a slur, but a statement of fact - the Jews among their ranks (as there are in the Republican Party). Instead, Democrats are allying behind their MSM pal. One more reason why the mainstream media has lost my trust.
Here's another: The "let's move on" was almost equally inappropiate as the anti-Semitic question. An apology should have been demanded instead. Making Judiasm an election issue is disgusting and unbecoming just as much as Christainity and Islam and Hinduism and other faiths.
Obviously, I am disgusted. It doesn't help when I know Jews. |
