The WaPo's Howard Kurtz on the insanity going on with Senate appointments:
As for the serial Senate standoffs, I've got to say, the situation is just getting weird. You have, you know, the daughter of a slain president who hasn't, you know, been in the public spotlight, or bothered to vote all the time, but, you know, she's a Kennedy. You have a less-than-inspiring African American picked by a governor caught on tape trying to sell the seat, but who now can paint the all-white Senate as faintly racist for not seating his man. You have the author of "Rush Limbaugh Is a Big Fat Idiot," who has toned down his act and wound up on top in a byzantine recount that would be funny if anyone understood it.

"Are you sure you're clear on just who Burris is?"
It was a bit of humor.
Lighten up, Francis. |

I totally agree with the first part of your post but your second part is either a product of you completely surrendering yourself to whims of the MSM only or you are being intellectually dishonest or (God forbid)you are not intelligent enough to sort out the truth.Yes I comment from time to time, but I come to this blog mainly to learn and sometimes(as in this case)to teach. Now I can't for the life of me believe anyone that goes on a political blog and doesn't know the difference between conservatives and republicans. The conservatives and their surrogates in the media have been constantly critical of the GOP and it's errant path.We vilify Republican wrong doers. The left embraces theirs.Look at the Senate, what a mess Who is in denial now? |
|
The fact that Franken got elected over a Republican, or even came close for that matter, is a far more d**ning idictment of the Republican party than the Democratic party.
But humility and introspection are not within the sphere of possibility for Republicans these days.
Denial of any and all failures coupled with being victims is the new Republican party and conservative media.

Please, no more Kennedy's, Clinton's or Bush's. The Senate already is a mess with the people they have onboard starting with Reid, Dodd and Kennedy to add Franken is to spit in our faces. So are the Representatives starting with Pelosi, Dodd and Frank. Even worse they both are now unfettered! God save us all, please! |
|
Franken is a creep. Yes, it's frightening he could get any number of votes, but keep in mind the Libertarian slashed 20% of the vote. That's how we got McCain as our candidate too, if you recall (Romney and Huckabee).
The other appointments are just scandalous. These people will be *REPRESENTATIVES* (we know the definition of that term, right?) without any kind of election or scrutiny. The Chicago guy seems okay, but Kennedy is comically ridiculous.
To the lawyer, if the Senate refuses to seat these people, I hope you'll still uphold your respect for 'the law' and support their position. Its creepy, but the Senate kind of chooses themselves and the elections are more like formalities by the states. |

Please underand this post is written by a lawyer who has never appeared on TV or had any Major News cases during my long tenure as an attorney who has been in the un noticed trenches for many years However, one does not have to have a legal education to understand regardless of my or your persoanl views the GOV. had an absolute right to appoint his choice to the Senate.........THIS IS ABSOLUTE.........for if the " presumption of innocence" has any actual standing in the public arena ( which it doesn't) this appointment can not legally be undone absent proff of " kick back" etc and provided the man is qualified, by age and birth.
Perhaps the Dems feel one prominent Black is more than adequate at this time but nevertheless he must by law be seated. Also, should he meet the age and citizen requirements he MUST be seated............So Please stop the fake shrill this is our system. |
|
...already. Let the circus of government by this bunch of hate-filled, self-serving, corrupt, elitist, egotistical socialists begin! Let the people behold the spectacle.
And pray that the country survives until the next elections. |

"Why not let Burris appoint Caroline Kennedy or Al Franken to the Senate."
Are you sure you're clear on just who Burris is? |
|
Caroline Kennedy or Al Franken to the Senate. Or perhaps Chicago sons like Jeremiah Wright or Bill Ayers.
Then New York's gov can appoint Oprah as Senator. Why not?
Every circus needs a clown car. |
