Horrifying
Posted by: Mary Katharine Ham at 5:15 PM

This candidate for Senate is praying to the Lord with his staffers. Is that even legal? I'm sure it's not. Only a backwoods, Jesus-freak Republican would sink so low, with his anti-science, voo-doo, Duby-lovin' beliefs...Oh, wait. What? That's Democrat Harold Ford? Oh, how refreshing and genuine. He's not your daddy's Democrat. I've heard that. Very charismatic, they say. Where's my checkbook?

Bethany had thoughts on this kind of thing yesterday at Hot Air.

A Mason-Dixon poll this week had Corker creeping to a two-point lead over Ford, and Corker's claiming momentum. An LAT poll has Corker up 5.

Apparently Corker has disavowed this ad, which Ford called racist, on the grounds that it's "tacky." Bad move by Corker. The Ford camp's reaction to the ad was as ridiculous and desperate-looking as his crashing Corker's press conference this weekend. Just let them keep talking when they act like that. Only race-obsessed Democrat operatives and grievance-mongers could create racism out of that ad. It's them with the hang-ups, not Tennessee voters or Republicans.

The ad is great, and I'm glad it's gotten blanket coverage because of Ford's inane accusations.

Give to Corker, here.

More liberal posturing....
No, this ad CAN'T be "read as racial in nature" by anyone with a brain - and it IS just "Democratic operatives and grievance-mongers" who think so.

For all the finger pointing and whining the left does about con's being "racist," who are the first ones to categorize everyone and everything by race, using it as a basis for reward and for punishment? Who are the ones who consistently view everything and everyone through the lens of race?

Liberals, of course. The real racists. Once again, liberals shatter the hypocrisy meter.

The ad..
The ad was a huge RNC gaff, because it CAN be read as racial in nature--and it's not just "Democratic operatives and grievance-mongers" who think so. I imagine the ad will be used as a sucessful GOTV motivator in Memphis.

Also wimpy is Mehlman and another RNCer who say they were not repsonsible for the ad's content. They are not trying to pass it off onto a third party because it DOESN'T have racial overtones. (I guess the disclaimer that the "RNC is repsonsible for the content of this advertisement" means something else to Mehlman, et. al.)

I disagree Corker made a bad move
I think his disavowal of the ad was a good move. The ad still gets traction (seriously, do most people who see it care if Corker has disavowed the ad?), more coverage than normal (that's Ford's fault), and Corker can be ignorant about it and point to that as a plus. ("That ad that got me in the news and made Ford look like a buffon with his condemnations of it? I don't like it." Seriously, three people heard that, two were satisfied with Corker's explaination, and the other one wasn't voting for Corker anyway.)

I make no judgements about whether he's sincere in praying. I would assume he is, though the point Bethany makes is that he'll have to back the appearance of piety up with actions if elected. The point I was making is that the mainstream press absolutely lauds Ford and Obama for believing in Jesus, while tearing down any conservative, white male who does the same. There's certainly a double standard.

oh well
I’ve seen the Corker ads and they were tacky. Ford crashing Corker’s press conference was tacky also. I’m at a loss though for the point about Ford praying. Is there a concern that he is not sincere in his prayers? It’s always possible that a person would use religion for personal and political gain. I don’t thing conservatives should start turning over that rock. You never know who’s underneath it.

His Other Prayer Meeting
(Wonder Twin powers, activate. Form of sarcasm.)

I believe this photo is the second in a series. I think the other group prayer he held was at the Playboy party he attended.

I definitely recall hearing something like: "He was having group -- (inaudible)-- praying with the playmates --" (couldn't hear the rest)

For some reason his publicist didn't use that one. Go figure. What a nice, decent guy he is to have prayer with those ladies. Most men would only be there for the hors d'oeuvres.
