We have to hope that Iran is not crazy enough to actually start such a war. I think the Iranian people are sane and rational, but I cannot say the same for its government. |

This is not the MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) strategery of the USSR/USA nuke days. The Russians (Breznev, et.al) were at least sane, if not always sober. Any world leader that would allow himself to be caught on camera checking out Jill St. John's caboose couldn't have been all that bad! Islamofascists on the other hand are technically always sober yet insane - perhaps there's a relation. They have shown all the signs they consider their lives and those of their citizens expendable for the higher glory of the Iman. That's what's particularly scary about Islamofascists with nukes and why that should never be allowed. |

We can hope all we want but the Bible lays out a scene in Ezekiel that a confederation that includes Iran(Persia)and Russia will ultimately attack Israel.They have never been allies in the past so this has to be a future event. I know you are not a Bible endorser but we who are believe prophecy to be a inevitable fact. And our predictions lay plumb with current world events.
I agree with you that the Iranians are wonderful people! Our current TownHall contributor MaryStella is a perfect example of a most sane, intelligent and gracious Persian. I know both she and I pray that Iran will be free of their dictators and mullahs in the New Year! |

This for me is really what it comes down to.
It makes no rational, practical, political, or military sense for Iran to attack Israel with nuclear weapons because of the following:
* Can't attack Jerusalem because holy to Muslims
* High casualties among large numbers of Muslims in Israel and the Occupied Territories (even if Arabs)
* Many fallout casualties in Jordan and Iran because of prevailing Westerly winds
* Uncertainty of success due to Israeli defenses
* Catastrophic damage done to Iran in response
So, the only reason for Iran to attack Israel is a belief that it would bring about the return of the Imam Mahdi to lead the forces of righteousness and defeat the forces of evil in one, final, apocalyptic battle.
The actual possibility of this is very hard to assess. |

Rationality and "hope" aren't any good in dealing with Iranian Mullah realities. They must be stopped before they have a deliverable nuke. At least Neville Chamberlain hadn't seen an irrational zealot like Hitler before. We have no excuse this time, within living memory of WWII. |
