Yea, that's right, we all had a big meeting SLC and decided that we would all get on the blogs this week to defend Romney and go after McCain...

In fact, I think that we were having that meeting at the same time you, your buddies and McCain were gathered in Mexico City figuring out how y'all could screw up the Republican Party and it's ideals more.... Actually, I think that your meeting must have gone better cuz you guys are being alot more effective.

You and most (not all, but most) of your McCainiac Bloggers are just a bunch of losers.... You need to get over yourselves....

Comprehensive Immigration Enforcement

We need Comprehensive Immigration Enforcement, not reform. We need to restore respect for the law and the faith of the American people that their government is not selling them out. Amnesty for the illegal aliens is also amnesty for the corrupt companies who have been employing them. Money trumps everything, including love of country. Multi-nationals have no loyalty to country by definition, they see us as a market, not a nation. They see people as workers, documented or undocumented, no difference. If they can't send the work to where the labor is cheaper, then they want to bring the cheap labor here. If citizenship becomes meaningless, this is no longer The United States of America.

If we love our Constitution and our representative Republic and we intend to keep it we must not surrender our sovereignty or abandon the rule of law. Profits must not supercede security. We should not create a new path to citizenship. We have a path to citizenship, more generous than any other country, illegal aliens have ignored it and bad choices do have consequences.

Hey Fabius!
My impression is that all of us Mormons should have been more willing to challenge the lies and distortions being put out about Mitt and about the church and it's doctrines.

It is great that Hugh has the patience to continue explaining to you the great strength of character and williness to serve our nation that makes up Mitt Romney.

Don't even try to connect the church with any rise in Mitt's success OR you will be hearing from a lot of latter Day Saints. We know better and we will let you know how we know what we know we know!

Meeting in Salt Lake City? Not trying to paint the church as being involved, huh?

RNC and the Cheap Labor Express

We should not undertake any immigration reform until after another Presidential election. This President has shown his loyalties are not to American citizens on this issue. Personally, I believe we need Comprehensive Immigration Enforcement, not reform. We have the laws, what we don't have is any enforcement. Without enforcement, laws are meaningless.

The borders could have and should have been secured September 12, 2001. But that would have disrupted the cheap labor express and the RNC could not disappoint its contributors. So the problem has doubled as enforcement went from inadequate under Clinton to nonexistent under Bush. Now they will try to jam another amnesty down our throats. The question remains, will we let them?

We should not undertake any immigration reform until Ted Kennedy is gone. He is largely responsible for the 1965 legislation that led to the 1986 amnesty that led to this years amnesty. Before 1965 we allowed approx. 250,000 people in legally each year. He told us we would not have a million each year, we do. Legally. We also have a million a year coming in illegally which was supposed to have been fixed by the one time only amnesty of 1986. Author: Ted Kennedy. Ted Kennedy had inserted provisions into the bill which would have made it impossible to deport anyone, even those who already have deportation orders. He had fixed it so we would get to pay for the lawyers for the illegals to contest their cases. As far as any enforcement goes we were just supposed to believe them that this time they really, really mean it.

Joe and other McCain supporters
Can't you see that McCain fractures the GOP in a way that the GOP might never recover from? Just read the posts all over the blogosphere.

The best thing the Democrats could ever hope for is for the GOP to break apart. We would basically give the country to the socialist left. Is that what WE want to happen? McCain is the ticket for the libs for this exact reason. It is one of the reasons they push him and why the freaking NY Times endorses McCain. They know McCain tears the party apart.

If McCain fools enough people to vote for him, the damage to the party would be fatal. For the sake of the party, for the conservative movement, for the world..... please consider Mitt or Rudy at this point. You might not like them all that much, but with Mitt or Rudy the GOP will not fracture and we would have a great chance to win the White House come November.

Think big picture people.

The border
On the immigration debate there are two discreet pieces:

(1) actually controlling the physical borders; and (2) what to do with the people that are already here.

McCain's preferences on (2) are where his critics have the most traction.

On (1), compared to the status quo--which it seems the GOP universally just woke up and discovered wasn't working--McCain has been pushing to increase enforcement for a while.

Overall, the immigration reform bill was a political compromise -- and one pushed by Bush at that -- but it included significant enforcement provisions. Here's a negative review of the 2007 version by an immigrant right's group:

http://www.nilc.org/immlawpolicy/CIR/cir027.htm

and here's the negative review of the 2006 version:

http://www.nilc.org/immlawpolicy/CIR/cir017.htm

And as for the original proposal, which gets off lighter (and doesn't include amendments):

http://www.nilc.org/immlawpolicy/CIR/SAOIA_analysis_070805. pdf

Border enforcement was always part of the plan, there's just lots of questions re: effectiveness at the outset.

All right Fabius,
I can think of MANY ways to tout Rudy
1. Fantastic leader in a pinch
2. Mr. Law & Order
3. Sharp as a tack.
4. Understands allah's gangsters
5. Understands economics better than anyone other than Romney
6. True tax cutter

Since I don't want to harm his chances I DIDN'T bring up the other issue, the truth is the most important thing that gets lost in these discussions.

McCain party's frontrunner? Maybe NOT
Here's what happened last night in little Connecticut, for a taste of how some *real people, real voters* not yet heard from (as opposed to pundits and poll-takers) are feeling about this election.

My husband and I attended the Connecticut Republican Straw Poll in Middletown last night, and WOW were we in for an unexpected thrill! As far as we could judge by the buttons and signs people were wearing and holding, we expected that Ron Paul would take first place and McCain second.

So, imagine our joy when the results were announced, starting from the bottom, and both Paul's and McCain's numbers had been called before we heard "our man Mitt's!"

Here is the vote breakdown, from the total of 382 votes cast:

Mitt Romney 136 votes---------------- 35.6%

John McCain 104 votes---------------- 27.2%

Ron Paul 96 votes---------------- 25.1%

Rudy Giuliani 34 votes-----------------8.9%

Mike Huckabee 9 votes-----------------2.4%

(3 votes were split between Hunter & Thompson)

This Is NOT Immigration

Questions for illegal apologists like John McCain and his supporters.
Why does The National Council of the Race (la raza in spanish) and the Chamber of Commerce get to negotiate a "Comprehensive Shafting of The American Citizens" behind closed doors? Since when does an organization representing foreign nationals breaking our laws get to rewrite our immigration laws to suit the lawbreakers? Isn't this akin to allowing NAMBLA to rewrite our laws regarding child predators? Or allowing organized crime syndicates to rewrite racketeering, gambling, prostitution, and extortion laws?
We The People are being told by our representatives that we should sit down and shut up while they invite in the entire world. We The People should get some say in this matter. Another amnesty will set off a stampede like we have never seen before. There is not much time to save our country. All the money and power are on the side of shoving this amnesty down our throats. John McCain has been leading the charge. He will never get my vote.

Tancredo ENDORSED Romney, clear back
on Dec. 20th!

For anyone whose "first priority" is "national security," Mitt Romney is THE GUY! He has been the very strongest in the debates etc. for ETL! ENFORCE THE LAW!

From his campaign "Agenda" under the "Solutions to New Global Challenges" section:

1. "Build a Stronger Military"

2. "Preserve & Protect our Borders"

Anybody else see the debates in New Hampshire in which Romney *got in McCain's face* about the "in effect" amnesty of granting illegals permanent residency through the "Z VISAS" of the McCain-Kennedy Immigration Bill?
Virginia Patriot writes: Saturday, January, 26, 2008 1:00 PM
No Border Security/No National Security
John McCain has not changed his mind at all. His "solution" is still amnesty, after he has gotten Gov's Napolitano, Richarson, Schartenegger, and Perry (all amnesty supporters) to say the border is secure. His comment was "I'll build the goddamn fence if that's what they want." Yeah, right. I've had enough of his contempt of American citizens.

From Pat Buchanan's 1/25/08 column:

In 2004, the voters of Arizona, by 56 percent to 44 percent, enacted Proposition 200, requiring proof of citizenship before an individual may vote or receive state benefits. Forty-six percent of Hispanics voted for Prop. 200, giving the lie to those who say Hispanics support the illegal invasion of their country. Over 190,000 Arizonans petitioned to put Prop. 200 on the ballot. As it simply required proof of citizenship before receiving the benefits and privileges of citizenship, who could oppose it? Answer: the entire GOP congressional delegation, led by Sen. John McCain. This is the same John McCain who battled the border fence and colluded with Teddy Kennedy on the amnesty bill rejected by Congress last year after a national uproar. Bottom line: If the presidential race is between Hillary and Amnesty John, the border security battle is over and lost.

Well since Joe and Co. just repost
the same cut and paste, here we go.

McCain filed a brief in the Supreme Court with several DEMOCRATS against the Wisconsin Right to Life organization challenging its right to run informative ads prior to an election. Wisconsin Right to Life won.

McCain claims a solid pro-life record, but when push came to shove he opted to use his anti-free speech law to muzzle a pro-life group. McCain also claims he’ll appoint conservative judges, but–

The blunt fact is that such judges would be innately hostile to schemes like campaign finance reform, a signature McCain issue. It is not for nothing that Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Alito were in the majority ruling against McCain’s side in the Wisconsin Right to Life case last term.

McCain went 0-3 in that one case, against freedom of speech, against right to life and against the two conservatives President Bush has appointed to the SCOTUS. McCain didn’t have to file an amicus brief in this case. He chose to, making himself a partisan with the DEMOCRATS in it.

The problem with McCain is the battles he chooses to fight and the enemies he chooses to make. McCain consistently chooses the wrong battles and makes enemies out of the very people he now expects to carry him to the White House.

McCain will NEVER be President!!!!!!

National Security
But since you asked why some of us might think McCain is better than Rudy or Mitt, here goes:

On national security, McCain spent years advocating not just for patience, but for growing the military and for a larger presence in Iraq. When no one else in the GOP was articulating the WHY we're there, he did. (Bush tried, but he's never been good with the bully pulpit). He's a good mix of hawk and realist, with plenty of experience and connections in the area. And he's got skin in the game -- his kids are at risk. He comes across as someone who understands the global stakes, not just with the Islamic world, but with China and other developing countries. Moreover, his instincts have generally been right over the years (see '83)--giving confidence in his ability to respond to crises.

Rudy's gut is probably in the right place and he's got some exposure to this world -- but I worry some about his articulation and ability to string together our allies.

With Mitt, he's untested, fine -- and he says some of the right things, but I don't sense he fully gets it. You can see his comfort level talking economics that just isn't there on the foreign policy front...and if you don't know that reliance on the State Dept. is dangerous, that worries me.

For me, the one principal job of the feds. is national security, so it's pretty important.

On immigration (which has a nat'l security component), I believe McCain will enforce and close the border (and not just the Southern), if anyone will. Even if it's not his first priority, he's made a promise on this that the guy will keep. Mitt's is better than Rudy on this, but I doubt his ability to force through actual construction and question his true commitment on this. He's no Tancredo. And Rudy trails all three.

Like so many McCain critics, Limbaugh turned to former Senator Rick Santorum--"whose conservative credentials are beyond question"--as an expert witness. "I don't hardly agree with him on hardly any issues," Santorum said.

Really? Santorum's lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union is 88. John McCain's is 82.3. One would suppose there might be some overlap. The difference between a real conservative and a phony one apparently lies in those six points.

Although many others have been as critical of McCain, perhaps no one has been as hypocritical. In 2006, when Santorum was running for reelection, he asked McCain to come to Pennsylvania to campaign on his behalf. When McCain obliged, Santorum put the video on his campaign website, listing it first among "key events" of the year. That's gratitude, Santorum-style.

(3) supported "gay rights"?
(4) imposed mandatory health care requirements?
(5) actually RAISED taxes by hundreds of millions of dollars?
(6) stated he wanted to tax all political contributions?
(7) supported civil unions?
(8) had his state fall 10 notches in terms of "business friendliness"
(9) offered a $20 billion/yr. bailout of a failed welfare state (Michigan)?
(10) wants to nationalize insurance for "catastrophes"?
(11) thought the 2005 immigration bill was "reasonable"?
(12) indicated that he did't support the Bush 2001 tax cuts?
(13) presided over a state where residents fled and job growth lagged well behind national averages, despite the presence of top-flight universities with huge endowments?
(14) left the GOP in worst shape than when he first was elected to office?

Now people could support this guy, fine. But if you do, can you really say you're in the position to tell others that they AREN'T conservative? LOL

I'm at best very mildly green, but only to the extent that it helps rather than hurts (more or less a cost benefit approach with a default to doing nothing) -- e,.g., I'll recycle, cut down on smog sources, etc.

My take on global warming is that it's overblown, but there are prudent reasons to make improvements where it makes sense, even as a hedge. More importantly now, national security is STRONGLY calling to minimize our oil use any way we can.

There are non-regulatory steps that can be taken, but there are also industries that are their own worst enemies. Why is it foreign automakers don't seem to have any problems with CAFE? Even when they build cars in the U.S.? But domestic manufacturers go apoplectic.

On some level, it's a good thing when Cleveland's rivers aren't on fire, or we can see the mountains in Southern California. Screw carbon-offsets and Kyoto, but there's room for rational improvement. If that cuts off funds from our Wahhabi 'friends,' or puts a wind farm in Ted Kennedy's backyard view, so much the better.

BTW, when is some American politician going to start pushing for freedom of religion in the Middle East? Last I checked it was Article 18 of the UN Declaration of Rights. If the bastards blowing themselves up want to seek protection from the UN, let's go after their sponsoring countries' own weak spots...

The base actually prefers a war hero who doesn’t pander to a flip-flopper who will say whatever he thinks you want to hear just to win an election.

“And let’s not forget how that shamnesty debacle was attempted last summer.”

More lies from the liberalcons. McCain is the one who actually built a coalition of conservative Reps and moderate Dems to close our border! Do you acknowledge that? Of course not because both you & Malkin are sophists.

McCain is the one who actually dealt with illegals now living here in a pragmatic and commonsensical way. Whereas you support deporting 5% of the population which would destroy our economy. You somehow never mention the fact that the Courts have given deportees the right to petition the Courts so the backlog would be decades long and the expense would be in the trillions if not more.

Furthermore, McCain’s plan was authored by Senator Kyl- you’re favorite senator so an attack on McCain on this issue is an attack against Jon Kyl, not that you care.

McCain’s pursuit of border security didn’t alienate Latinos as you and your ilk continue to do. If you keep up your nativism, which is what really motivates your sophistry, then the Republicans will lose the latino vote for generations and that means we will not be able to win the majority of congress, state houses or the White House.

Shame on you nativist sophists. To betray your Party just to promote Mitt Romney, a man who truly put amnesty into action as he is the only Republican candidate who actually hired illegal aliens to work for him, and who has changed his position on this issue too many times to count (even did it 3 weeks ago) is beyond disgusting.

If we have terrorists cross our now open borders and kill American citizens their blood will be on your hands Hugh Hewitt and Michele Malkin because your crown demonized its proponents and demagogued this issue thereby killing any chance of Senator Kyl’s bill from passing.

If you find yourself lining up with McCain, you are a left leaning person on at least a few issues. That alone should make you McCain supporters hang your heads in shame. The last thing I would want as a conservative would be to have liberal leaning beliefs..because liberalism is for losers, for suckers, for emotional simpletons.

It's these left leaning folks in our party that have weakened it to the point that we lost in 2006. Now these same left leaning " Republicans " are pushing the ultimate RINO on us... John " I might become a Democrat " McCain.

Last time I checked, the GOP was supposed to CRUSH liberalism, not join them. McCain is one of them on the left. This is why the liberal media loves the guy and why John Kerry considered McCain as his VP in 2004.

McCain is a disgrace to the GOP regardless of his military service 4 decades ago. He has to be stopped if capitalism and American power are to continue. Global warming cap and trade schemes?? Trailing the frontrunners are Mike Huckabee at 17%, Rudy Giuliani at 12%, and Ron Paul at 6% (see recent daily numbers)."

COSELL, maybe you should be more nervous than you are. Romney wins Fl and he will explode into the lead nationally.

John McCain is a real conservative
Mark Levin, a longtime confidant of both Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity who now hosts his own increasingly popular talk show, took the anti-McCain argument a step further on his show last Wednesday. "At this point, anybody who supports John McCain and claims to be a conservative, let me be blunt: You're not a conservative."

Which came as a surprise to Jack Kemp, the ardent supply-sider who was the conservative alternative to George H.W. Bush in 1988. "That's just so preposterous," said Kemp. "I don't agree with McCain on several things. He's gotten right on the economy. He's right on foreign policy. And he's right on the war on terror."

And no doubt a surprise also to Phil Gramm (lifetime ACU rating of 95), whose presidential campaign was endorsed by
National Review in 1996. And to Sam Brownback, a stalwart conservative and one of the most outspoken pro-life politicians in America today. And to Tom Coburn from Oklahoma, arguably the most conservative member of the Senate.

"John McCain and I have stood side by side on many issues," Coburn said in endorsing McCain last week. The most important, he added, are "fiscal responsibility" and the "sanctity of human life."

Environmentalism
Joe - no one here is arguing to pollute and destroy the environment just for the hell of it. Conservatives were the original environmentalists. They supported good stewardship of the environment, but not at the expense of the economy or quality of life. Conservatives also do not believe in expanding the size and control of government to preserve the environment.

I really fail to understand how McCain is for the "free market solution" as you say, when he just signed and touted his support for the massive energy bill that does nothing put create new regulations! New CAFE standards? Please, that is anything but "free market" That is the government telling private industry what products to make - pure and simple. A free market solution would be to allow the auto-companies to succeed and fail on their own based on the products that they decide to produce.

While on the environment, lets not forget that McCain opposes domestic oil drilling, despite the fact that we have great new technologies that allow us to do it in a clean a responsible way. He opposes it again in the name of environmentalism. This position does not help us become energy independent as he say he wants us to become. Renewable energy is not the solution - not yet anyways! Meanwhile, we sit idlely by and watch China drill for oil off our own coasts!

Stephen Hayes going off the reservation
Like so many McCain critics, Limbaugh turned to former Senator Rick Santorum--"whose conservative credentials are beyond question"--as an expert witness. "I don't hardly agree with him on hardly any issues," Santorum said.

Really? Santorum's lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union is 88. John McCain's is 82.3. One would suppose there might be some overlap. The difference between a real conservative and a phony one apparently lies in those six points.

I am for sane cost effective environmentalism. So is McCain. John McCain pointed out that a good way to deal with global warming is to build more nuclear power stations.

I also support free market environmentalism (which John McCain's advisor Jack Kemp also supports). If you have a problem with over fishing (for example and which is a more severe problem than global warming) sell fishing rights as a tradable commodity and the owners of those rights have a vested interest in not depleting the stocks and acting in a susstainable manner.

As for those florescent bulbs, I agree. They definitely should not go into landfills and if they are a benefit (in engergy savings) that has to be balanced against the cost of properly throwing them away.
Dan in SC writes: Saturday, January, 26, 2008 10:30 AM

I have not heard McCain speak about global warming as rational as you do. I have heard him put out the same rhetoric that Clinton, Obama, and Edwards recite. McCain has proven his willingness to impose government regulations in the name of global warming starting with the energy bill he just signed that will outlaw the incandescent light bulb is a few years. That is neither responsible or rational.

BTW, who decided that the florescent bulbs were better for the environment anyways? They do have mercury in them ya know. They go to the landfills, break, and the mercury goes straight into the ground and many times into our water supply. How does this help the environment???

Joe, McCain is NOT a WAR HERO!
Anne Coulter agrees with me. The entire "John McCain, War Hero" bit is a myth only accepted because it is repeated so often.

Unless of course, every POW from every war ever fought is a WAR HERO. As far as I can tell, THAT is the only thing that qualifies him.

The problem is that when EVERYONE IS A HERO, then NO ONE IS A WAR HERO.

Let me list some REAL WAR HEROES FOR YOU:

1. Sgt. Alvin C. York
2. Gen. Omar N. Bradley
3. Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower
4. George Washington
5. Lt. Audie L. Murphy
6. Eddie Richenbacher - Sgt, A.E.F.
7. John McCain??? (see, it doesn't fit, does it?)

THESE are war heroes. THESE men risked their lives to save thousands. THESE men made a difference in the wars they fought.

What DIFFERENCE did John McCain make in the Vietnam War? When did he risk his life to save his platoon above and beyond the call of duty? When did he single-handedly capture an entire regiment of the enemies soldiers? What grenade did he throw his body on? What pillbox did he run through withering machine-gun fire to take out just to save his buddies?

Outside of being unfortunate enough to be captured by the enemy in Vietnam, what did John McCain do in the Vietnam Conflict to distinguish himself?

Nothing. John McCain was a POW. He was NO HERO.

Think I'm full of it?

List for me 5 HEROIC THINGS John McCain did during the Vietnam War where he actually had a choice in the matter? Go ahead. I won't hold my breath.

Global warming
Stop the hysteria on both sides. The guy who has this dialed in is Michael Crichton. http://www.heartland.org/Article.cfm?artId=16260 He admits that there is some manmade component to it, he also admits it is not catastrophic and we can deal with it rationally if we do not panic. Similarly, Bjørn Lomborg says the same thing. http://www.opinionjournal.com/editorial/feature.html?id=11 0008626

It does not behoove the GOP to say global warming is a complete sham, because voters believe it. Voters will reject you if you say it is a lie, voters will embrace you if you admit that there is some global warming but we need not panic or spend trillions on it. And in fact, there is some real scientific data to support that man is contributing to it (although it is mostly a natural phenomenon). If you want Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama to make this policy, keep up the denial.

Fellow Conservatives
The time has come for us to unite together and reject liberal idealism. We need to send a message to the RINOs in our party and tell them the following:

WE REJECT - The premise of man made global warming!

WE REJECT - The suppression of freedom of speech!

WE REJECT - Open borders and amnesty for the millions of illegal aliens that violated our laws ignored our sovereignty!

WE REJECT - Re-importation of drugs and price controls that regulate the fee market!

WE REJECT - Voting against lower taxes and using class warfare as the reason for doing so!

WE REJECT - Fighting pro-life groups in court because they are trying to get out the message of how precious life is!

WE REJECT - Stabbing our party in the back and leading a gang of traitors to prevent the appointment of conservative judges!

WE REJECT - A Republican that entertains the idea of running with John F. Kerry as the Democrat VP candidate!

Its time we rallied behind someone that stands for traditional conservative ideals: lower taxes, smaller government, pro-life, strong military and defense, secure borders, and family values!

Its time to unite behind Mitt Romney and send these RINOs packing straight out of the Republican party and into Liebermann's Independent-Democrat party.

Zogby Poll

As a McCain supporter I do have to say two things about the Zogby poll. I don't trust it. Zogby has been way off. I also believe we might see a little tick up for McCain on Friday and weekend polls because of pure demographics. It's easier to reach the McCain voters -age, less proffessional ect. then it is to reach Romney supporters. Every weekend poll during this primary season seems to have McCain rising. I do believe however that the Martinez support helps McCain more then the Rombats here realize. If the Cuban support leaves Guliani and circles around McCain then Romney is toast

Go John McCain!!!
Boomshak writes: Saturday, January, 26, 2008 9:28 AM
Zogby MISSED Michigan by 10 points!
Zogby's final poll in Michigan had McCain winning by 1 point.

As you may recall, Romney won by 9 (a HUGE 10 point miss!). The fact that Zogby is doing this poll along with Reuters gives me even less confidence.

Add to that the fact that Zogby says "Romney wins handily amongst Conservatives", and yet McCain wins the state by 3???? Say huh?

So the majority of the Republican Party in FL is NOT CONSERVATIVE? Say huh again?

I think if you could look into Zogby's sample, he has overweighted the moderate/liberal vote. InsiderAdvantage, for instance, uses 20% DEMOCRATS in their sample even though Democrats can't vote!

I expect Zogby has done the same.

This is the made-up stuff that should drive everyone crazy. McCain was supporting tax breaks with the Reagan administration, back when Romney was left of a lot of Democrats, so this crap about raising taxes has no place in this discussion. And McCain wants socialized medicine? Give me a break. Last time I checked, he had a healthcare plan on the table that was as far from socialized medicine and a large bureacracy as any other candidate. He believes in working to make insurance afforable without the government getting more involved. Last time I checked, smaller government was a trademark of being conservative--maybe someone should ask Rudy and Mitt about the Cat Insurance they're pushing in Florida, and how that would just add more government spending and interference in our lives. Or is it possible they're just pandering for votes?

Not their cup of tea
The author should dial up http://www.realclearpolitics.com and click on Florida. Assuming he wants to be accurate about the polls - that is. 7 polls have been taken between 1/20 and 1/25. 4 show McCain leading, one shows him tied with Romney, and two show Romney leading. More importantly, they appear to show both Guliani and Huckabee slipping. Of the two, Guliani should be the most worried. Huckabee will pick up Georgia, and perhaps a few other states. If he stays in the race and keeps polling 15% or so in enough states, then, given that the GOP assigns delegates on a proportional basis in many states, he could keep enough delegates to deny 51% to any other candidate. Guliani, however, doesn't have the Huckabee evangelical base, and would likely drop out after super Tuesday - given lack of money and no wins at all. The momentum does not appear to be in his direction at all. In the end, it increasingly appears that many Republicans don't want a Clinton GOP clone in the white house. A serial divorcee who openly cheated on his wives does not appear to be their cup of tea.

McCain is a leftist
The Democrats are set to push for three things: socialized medicine, higher taxes (repeal of all the Bush tax cuts plus numerous additional tax increases) and global warming regulations. All three will be disastrous for the American economy -- and McCain is in bed with the Democrats on all three.

McCain as President will drastically weaken any Republican opposition to these three moves. If McCain is nominated, it will be far better to vote for Hillary because then the congressional Republicans will be free to fight these moves just as they fought and defeated HillaryCare when Bill Clinton was in office.

John McCain's sole value in this election will be to Hillarity, who will be the next president if McCain wins the nomination. McCains biggest supporters are the disenguous drive-by media, who will turn on him the instant the other republicans are vanquished. They have managed to convince enough scared republicans that McCain is the only candidate who can win (hello Michael Medved). The opposite is true, and I don't care what any damn poll says. Apparently dissatisfied with their presidential choices, Republicans are asking, "Why don't we have another Ronald Reagan?" But if we think seriously about what made Ronald Reagan a great leader and a great president, we may find that there's a reasonable facsimile hiding in plain sight.

[...]

The Reagan coalition is still out there, a majority of Americans -- Republicans, Democrats, and Independents -- who believe that the size of government and its role in the economy should be reduced. Through the aggressive use of the veto pen, McCain has promised restore this essential element of Reagan's vision. Why should disaffected conservatives believe this? Because John McCain is like Ronald Reagan in the most significant respect of all: he is an authentic person, not a confection designed by consultants.

Anderson Cooper on CNN just presented an interesting little clip he called, "The Whisper". It focused on Mitt Romney at the debate the other night.

Right after Romney was asked if he would make any Reagan-type pledge...and just BEFORE Mitt answers...you hear a voice whisper..."TAXES" or "No TAXES".

The speculation is that Romney may have been fed answers during the debate. Now this is only speculation and Cooper said some think it may have been an open mic...but the thought was indeed planted by CNN. Right now, just a conspiracy theory.
