Mark Teixeira and Jimmy Rollins for "Card Check" Legislation
Posted by: Kevin Glass at 3:10 PM
Filed under "you learn something new every day": the Major League Baseball Players' Association is a member of the AFL-CIO, which is pushing the Employee Free Choice Act. The MLBPA, in conjunction with the AFL-CIO, has put out an ad featuring quite a few big league ballplayers in support of the controversial legislation.

The ad says that these players support the card check legislation. Two questions: Are any of them on your favorite team? And do you really think these multimillionaire athletes really understand what's on the table or care about the average American worker?

For those interested, the count is two Phillies featured in the ad (Shane Victorino and Jimmy Rollins) to one Yankee (Mark Teixeira). If the big bosses here at Townhall permitted endorsements, I think that might swing it to the Yankees.

Click "read more" to view the ad.

If the unions are so great
Why do they need card check? why are'nt employees lining up to join?
foxmustang writes: Thursday, October, 29, 2009 8:18 AM
I don't give a crap...
what baseball players, who make more money in a year than I could make in 5 lifetimes, have to say about crooked union politics.

Especially you Yankee players that have whored yourself out for George Steinbrenner's money.

'nuff said......

Lots of folks do not like the military
And most Americans do not know any active duty people. I think if you came to LA, for existence, or SF or NYC, you wouldn't find many who know anyone who is in the military. Down south, sure, lots.

Kaboom talking about Veterans. I too remember her remarks. She is the pond scum.

I care a lot about vets
esp. those who the government has conned into fighting over nothing.

What do you care about vets.

Maybe you don't remember your "the military and people who join the military are pond scum" comment.

But I do.
sceptyczny writes: Wednesday, October, 28, 2009 5:39 PM
so, players lose their free speech
rights too, just like actors?

And need to warn you, Mrs. Obama and Mrs. Biden, with Yogi Berra (a vet) and a wounded Iraq vet will be throwing out the first ball tonight at the game. Guess you better not watch.

Players are political geniuses?????
I have been a Phils' fan since 1947. I love all the Philly teams. Please guys, play ball and leave political science up to those of us who understand it and yes, I teach it and have been for 49 yrs. So please, Jimmy, just win as Al Davis would say and learn something about democracy, freedom from Ronaldus Magnus not the socialist pacifist, Obama and his union thugs in ACORN-SEIU.

Think these guys really think for themselves? They do whatever their agents tell them to do and sign what their agents tell them to sign.

If you ask any of them dollars to doughnuts they wouldn't be able to tell you what card check even meant.

You know...see the ball, hit the ball. That's what they do.

I will say that I was heightened that I didn't see any of my Bosox boys on the ad.

Chalie had to bench Jimmy a few time the last couple yrs for not running out grounders.

Chalie said "I don't care who you are, people don't spend money to watch you walk up the first base line".

Jimmy don't walk the bases anymore.

Actually Paddy....
it was Halliburton. And Cheney showed up everyday to shoot any maple syrup manufacturers who protested. They they brought Enron in to cook the books on it. Anybody else want to add to this?

paddy o....
....may be on to something here people.

Bush, maple bats, Blackwater.....it's all begining to make sense now.

Rightwing conspiracy!
paddy o'furniture writes: Wednesday, October, 28, 2009 4:15 PM
Didn't Bush....
.....invent the maple bat? I think it was a Blackwater dark op.......

Toma
Not only would you have smeared me but I'm sure you would have found a way to tear into Bush also, seeing the maple bat started becoming popular during his presidency. :)

Two more celeb yahoos

Yeah I'm sure you're in favor of the unions who fight the salary cap so you can make $12 mil a year with no concern for the father of a family of 4 who has to shell out a couple hundred bucks to take the wife and kids out to one ball game.
toma29 writes: Wednesday, October, 28, 2009 3:57 PM
I stand
corrected, Peacefrog. That's how I know I'm conservative. You stated your info, I did my research, and I admitted I was wrong. If my mind was 20 years younger, I would have smeared you and walked away with pride.

Playoffs were fixed.....
We all know the networks make a boatload more money if the Series has East Coast teams in it.....

How 'bout those umpires, huh....?

Phils in 6

Hey I live in Philly so yeah I may just be a little biased.

Hey Toma....actually it's the maple bats that are the wussie bats, i've seen them shatter on a change-up.
Riders on the Storm writes: Wednesday, October, 28, 2009 3:39 PM
OK, Kevin, now you have ruined
my whole day. I was so looking forward to the first game of the World Series tonight--my beloved Yankees finally back in the fall classic. Now every time I look at Mark Teixeira, I will think of this blog. Good thing he is an excellent first baseman, or else I might not forgive his politics! :)
toma29 writes: Wednesday, October, 28, 2009 3:36 PM
Note to Rollins and Teixeira:
You show up at my house pushing me to join a union, you'd better bring your bat. And I'm not talking about one of your wussified bats made of ash.
