ATR Holding Sen. Ben Nelson to His Word
Posted by: Meredith Jessup at 1:38 PM
Recently, Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) became the only Democrat in the U.S. Senate to sign the "Taxpayer Protection Pledge"--a promise to oppose any tax hikes for his constituents and the American people.

As the Senate health care bill currently being considered contains nearly $500 billion in new tax hikes, ATR is encouraging Sen. Nelson to remember his pledge.  Television ads running during local and national news and commentary shows stress how important his vote will be in stopping this new set of taxes:

In addition, ATR is encouraging everyone to sign this online petition to support Nelson in his pledge.

Can anyone remember
the last time a politician remembered a pledge?

I doubt if the senator cares as much what you think as what insurance lobbyists think. You may add the sidedish, but the insurance industry puts the meat and potatoes on his plate.

"Can anyone remember the last time a politician remembered a pledge?"

This might be the first in a while.

Senator Nelson is very highly thought of in Nebraska, a state in which people seem to value a person who sticks to what he believes.

He's one fellow I think of to re-orient my thinking when I start believing every democrat has gone totally stark-raving bananas!

(I spent a while in Nebraska three years ago doing Fed investigations. Great people in Nebraska, except for the usual cast of losers in one part of Omaha. There are probably some of the losers in Lincoln too, but didn't spent enough time there to know, for certain. I think Sarah Palin would call folks in Nebraska: "Real Americans." Regardless, the vast majority are my sort of folks.)

FYI: Nebraska is not nearly as flat as I thought it was! It is pretty country.
