I'm wondering where you're leading us with this. kind of like when dick "i had other priorities" cheney got 5 deferments during vietnam? this is a road you surely don't want to go down. |
A lot of Republicans don't choose to go into military service. There's a lot about Barack Obama that does concern me, but the fact that he never served in the military isn't one of them. |
Joe Biden had 5 deferments so he could become a lawyer!!!! I think you are the one heading down a road you don't belong on. |
Matt someone has to bring you up to speed.Cheney is not running for POTUS please get some help for your OCD problem! The point of this article is to illustrate how disingenuous Obama is and it is very effective. |
At the same time, BO's answer is lousy. If you didn't serve in the military, just say that. Why does he feel the need to state an excuse? And a LAME excuse. He has a hard time with his answer because he thinks it will disqualify anyone in the military's vote for him. Another example that BO is pandering for every vote because he slips more everyday.
I think it's kind of funny. |

Obama did't sign up for selective service when he graduated from high school in 1979. Presidential Proclamation 4360 on March 25, 1975 halted the registration process, and it wasn't reinstated until Presidential Proclamation 4771 on July 2, 1980. Obama's birth year cohort then had until November 5, 1981 to register. |
That is very interesting. Bravo!
And yet the MSM gives McCain a bad time for his memory. You would think you would know when you signed up for selective service. I sure as heck remember when I did! |
....AND I wanted to be a lawyer. I knew I was going to have to work my way up on my own.
The GI Bill was very helpful.
I don't begrudge anyone the decision to remain a civilian, but I would also never vote for anyone as Cinc who has never served. |
The 1961 birth cohort (Obama's) had until August 3, 1980 to register, not January 1981. He apparently did register on September 4, 1980--still not when he graduated from high school a year before registration was reinstated. |
So there is no shame in that. I really do not hold that against Obama (although I am sure he would have benefited greatly by serving in peace or war). Some who serve did so during times of peace, or in the reserves, so serving under those conditions is not exactly what I would call extreme sacrifice (although of course there are some exceptions)--but I think even that service is useful to them personally.
I admire and respect deeply those who truly sacrificed (some giving all). We need to turn this around as a respect for those individuals. |

In an age when politics is choreographed, voters watch out for the moments when the public-relations facade breaks down and venom pours through the cracks. Their judgment is rarely favourable when it does. Barack Obama knows it. All last week, he was warning American liberals to stay away from the Palin family. He understands better than his supporters that it is not a politician's enemies who lose elections, but his friends.

Oh....didn't serve? Section 8? Don't ask, don't tell....?
It's ok....I feel better knowing that people like you aren't serving in our military.

Obama has been planning his political career for years. I would think he might have considered a stint in the Military. But hey he isn't going to be POTUS so who cares. |
What a complete phony. I can't even listen to this guy anymore. He is shameless. |
contemplated the military he is doing nothing but trying to shore up how "patriotic" he is.
Three out of four candidates have either served in the military or have children serving in the military.
Obama is doing nothing but trying to pander. |
