Watch the Disputed 'Path to 9/11' Clips Before Clinton's Lawyers Get to Them
Posted by: Mary Katharine Ham at 1:10 PM

They're at Red State, and content disputes aside, I think they're very entertaining. I hope we get to see the whole thing. It airs tonight at 8 p.m.

They may be a little slow to load.

My conspiracy theory? This is all part of Marky Mark's plan to stifle Donnie Wahlberg's comeback because he's still bitter that Donnie got the sustained success of New Kids on the Block while he got stuck with the Funky Bunch. Which, let's be serious, who wouldn't be bitter? I feel a job offer from the "Loose Change" kids coming on...

But Donnie will not be silenced. (You really shouldn't click on that YouTube unless you're ready for it. It's an NKOTB live medley. Fair warning.)

Justin Levine, at Patterico's, who saw a preview copy of the movie, called Wahlberg's showing the "performance of his career." Clearly Justin hasn't clicked on the YouTube yet.

Over at Ace's, they're parsing the Clinton lawyer letter.

9/11 Commissioners Kean and Lehman spoke up in favor of the miniseries on Stephanopoulos today. Lehman:

Well, I agree that people should go back to the report. It's very readable and that is factual. All of us Democrats and Republicans have endorsed that. I haven't seen the film, but I can reassure and comfort my Democratic colleagues that as a Republican having lived with the hostility of Hollywood through the last 30 years, that it's not going to have an earth-shaking impact, and I think that it certainly should go forward. It’s, I'm told equally harsh against the Bush administration, in fact, both Bush administrations and even back to Reagan for not retaliating against early strikes, so absolutely it should go forward, and if you don't like the hits to the Clinton administration, well, welcome to the club. The Republicans have lived with Michael Moore and Oliver Stone and most of Hollywood as a fact of life.

Well said. Which is why I say liberals should make their complaints, make their arguments, then suck it up and let the thing run. Even conservative bloggers have said repeatedly that, if the miniseries fictionalizes scenes, those scenes should be fixed. It seems obvious that ABC has been responsive to those complaints, yet the Funky Bunch bloggers continue to attack those who say ABC should let the show run.

Fyi, guys. The NYT:

Dramatic license was certainly taken, but blame is spread pretty evenly across the board.

Marky Mark, call off the dogs, will you?

ABC has a more extensive story on the Stephanopoulos appearances by four Commissioners, who were split on the accuracy of the miniseries.

Update: Betsy Newmark says the "Path to 9/11" flap is a great time to remember Sandy Berger and the real Clinton Legacy.

Think for a moment about the concerted action by Democrats, their lawyers, former White House operatives, Bill Clinton, sympathetic historians, and lefty bloggers to stop this show. Remember that this was the same crowd that was full of praise of for Fahrenheit 9/11 for crystallizing their opposition to George Bush. Accuracy and versimilitude didn't bother them then. And they weren't saying a word about 60 Minutes "fake but accurate" story on Bush's National Guard service. Now, ask yourself. If this crowd were to control the White House, how many more of these attempts to stifle any criticism of them would we be seeing? Think of how much has been aired during Bush's tenure, even a movie depicting him being assassinated and more denials of civil liberties gets made without Bush's White House unleashing its lawyers. But, for this thing, the Democrats go to the mattresses. Are they perhaps modeling for us what their response would be to further criticism if they should gain control of the White House - or even of Congress? Don't forget those not-so-veiled threats to ABC's license. Ponder that chill wind.
